The reason why we play Imperial Guard is that some of us loved the idea of unaugmented humans basically the same as humanity today taking on the terrors and horrors of the 41st millennium with nothing but a laser rifle some thin armor and faith in the Emperor.
As a life long guard player, I’ve definitely come up against “why would you pick the regular humans?,” a lot. I think it makes my army more relatable to myself as a player. I love how the guard plays on the tabletop, orders, units that need to support each other. Definitely fulfills a napoleonanic generating fantasy, but I definitely understand the criticisms. Great video! Respectfully, suck it from the front 😂
Completely agree. I personally find space marines boring. But the thought that in the 41st millennium, there could be an imperial guard named something like Geoff or Kevin, who's about 5'10, 180lbs, and has a wife and kids, in amongst all the craziness, just makes them more relatable
As an AdMech player, the steakpunk and binary is exactly what I like about it. And to go in and watch that y'all rated Necrons high.... My heart!!! Oh the agony! Dark Mechanicum supposedly being the classified Codex is super hype though. I'll be entirely disappointed if it's just AdMech with more bits. There should be some overlap between the armies though. Introduce a bunch of cool Legio Cybernetica models that are part of both armies that do just have extra bits for chaosifying it. Trying not to get my hopes too high, but man are they already.
Dark Mech is such a wicked concept, from all of the art we've seen in the CSM codexes over the years and more recently Arks Of Omen the bar is incredibly high!
I'm an imperial guard player so I'll throw my two cents. I don't think I'd play them if they were "just humans", I think a big part of the appeal for me is that they have relatively unique horde gunline-infantry playstyle whilst also bringing a bunch of tanks and artillery. I always play horde armies, and in 40K the options are pretty much Imperial Guard, Tyranids and Orks, and I already tried my hand at orks when I was little. I always preferred using ranged weapons in 40k and Orks/Tyranids lean a bit more into melee. Swapping to Guard was the right call for me, I love the heavy armour of the Kasrkin, the look of Scout Sentinels with their chain saws and chicken legs, and the command squads. Thats actually part of the appeal aswell, our main leader unit is a squad of 5 rather than a single model, as someone thats not hugely into single-entities and hero units, that is what really grabbed me from the start. Plenty of people have said this already, but relatability does help. I also believe strongly that without the imperial guard, the astartes wouldn't feel as cool for so many people since you need regular humans in the game for the super humans to feel super.
Honestly Ultramarines are the poster boys for a reason - it’s cause they’re SICK, the ultimate epitome of what it is to be an Astartes! I understand people being frustrated that they’re plastered onto every space marine thing and the share doesn’t go around to Salamanders, Imperial Fists, the other codex complaint chapters: but ultimately I still think they’re rad and I’ll always love the boys in blue. They just ain’t edge lord enough for ya’ll 🤣 Great video, cheers!
Thing with Ad Mech is they have a cool aesthetic in the artwork department, and they are one of the main pillars of the imperiums identity, but the actual models are pretty bland aside from Cawl and the tech priests
Yeah can certainly get behind that. I think the thing is especially with the eavy metal style it's very very clean, alot of the models produced for 40k setting really come alive with a grimdark scheme. Hence why we're so behind Dark Mech!
@@the_kieran_show I'm pretty sure Kieran would back me up in my opinions 🦾 Also I think you may need ways of delineating which Kieran we side with e.g. "Kieran A" and "Kieran 1" Or "the Mongoose" that's a cool name, the "Fighting Mongoose"
7:24 "I just don't understand when you have so many cool armies you'd still pick bolt action." I think that's _why_ people love the guard. In a setting where everyone else is some flavor of superhuman, alien, cosmic horror, or combination thereof, the army of normal humans becomes unique.
You young'ns are missing the point of orks, there is nuffing MORE 40k than them there greenskinz. They ate a product of the 1970's and 80's grimdark of the British Isles, a time when skinheads and football hooligans were constantly on the prowl. The lineage of history from the satire of 2000ad to the Orks of 40k are absolutely essential to the game and rthe lore. Long liv da greenskinz
Funnily enough for me it's vice versa. Favorite army is Tyranids, but when it comes to the Imperial side both Adeptus Custodes and Adeptus Sororitas are my favorites, while the least favorite army is pretty much the majority of Space Marines, because they're just super soldiers, formed into knightly orders after half of them went crazy and started a way-too-overhyped civil war within their empire. I don't know, I really do not like Space Marines that much. I do not despise them, don't get me wrong and thanks to me owning a Leviathan box, I'll come around and think about something, that will make these guys hopefully more interesting for me. Maybe a Renegade Non-Chaos chapter that goes by Deathwatch rules, because I might like them more as independent bounty hunters in single strike task forces, that doesn't strictly follow the Imperium's code. Still can do the Imperium's work with both Sisters of Silence and the Sororitas, while having few better looking elite super soldiers accompany them in battle, if at all. These alongside some Imperial Guard regiments embody for me humanity's struggle with the outer threats more than 'here comes a Legion of Supermen, ready for battle'. Again, just my personal opinion! I'm more interested in Xenos factions than I am into a main bulk of the Imperium. Portions of the Imperium however do interest me thanks to Warhammer 40k Pen & Paper sessions, where we played characters for the Inquisition or the Imperial Guard. In that regard Space Marines/Chaos Space Marines just got for me the shorter end of the stick, because they were never that appealing to me compared to the rest of the franchise.
I think these are all pretty solid takes tbh! The Sisters and Nids ranges have been fantastic over the past few years. I'd probably start a Sisters army if they weren't so damn detailed! It'd take a life time to conjure a decent force 😂 Whole heartedly agree on the Xenos take, I think there's far more variety that's accessible, they (GW) do a fantastic job at keeping them fresh too. #TauForever
@@the_kieran_show Agreeing with the army range, both are awesome. Still need to build my Sisters Combat Patrol and branch out from there, but Nids have priority first. Tau are also fun. Visually both the hover vehicles and the auxilliary forces + their kitbash potential peak my main interest. But if I have to start another Xenos army, I'd probably go for a mix out of Aeldari and Drukhari (Voidscarred Corsairs battle line units + Drukhari Reavers with Ynnari rules; Piratelord with Yvrainne rules as leader until Ynnari hopefully don't need Yvraine as their warlord or until Corsairs can take more than 250 points of Aeldari units into a Drukhari army.) Though going into a full Wraith Construct army seems also tempting. ^.^
The Tau are beautiful. The fsct they are gorgeous in their own right whilst also having the stunningly brutal bird boys in the Kroot is just awesome. They are two of my favourite looking and designed armies in 40K. The only issue Tau have is that etherals dont use psyker magic! Also, they aren't fish, they have hooves 🧐🤓 PS EVAs are fucking gorgeous. I wish the battle suits were alive 😢
Moving 200 guardsmen across the board with squads dying left and right, with multiple squads firing back. being the underdog taking an objective with legends being made of officers and random units killing enemy characters with las gun fire theres nothing like it.
5 - Knights/Chaos Knights. They just dont make sense in a game of this scale. Giant robots in space 4 - Tau. They just annoy me with the greater good bollocks plus every one i know that plays them just keeps complaining that space marines are over powers even though they shoot them off the table every time they face them. Blue fishy cows in space. Go back to star wars and produce the blue milk they drink. 3- ultra marines - romans in space. Come across all goody two shoes but they will shit on you if it gets them victory. Bloody Hair Dressers 2- sisters of battle. They have a blood tank that is a church organ. WTF!! Nuns in Space 1- Custards - We are the emperors guard. Really where is the emperor, oh several hundred light years away. Well done, got his back then?
For me it's like: 5. Death Guard, the army has no identity right now on the tabletop, which is sad. 4. Imperial Knights, they are cool, but they do not really fit the game format 3. Chaos Demons. The fact that their lineup is designed to work for 40K and Age of Sigmar is bad for the army. They are like 90 % character models. Yes, I like my cool demon characters, but they lack troop variety ... a lot. 2. Space Marines, I know they are the posterchild and the most played army, but they always get their equal attention cake while a lot o other factions really need a lot of attention cocncerning their rules, miniatures and troop lineup. Also goes for books. We need more books featuring other factions and characters to flesh them out. 1. Leagues of Votann, they have no troop variety and are as barebones as it gets as an army which reflects in the drastic points and rules changes GW has done in the last months to desperately try to make them work, resulting in a super expensive army to collect with no miniature variety at all. They also could have done a lot more with the concept than "Space miners". They are Space Dwarves, do something cool with the concept. Honorable mention: Tau - as a Guard player I kinda see them as just a more shooty and mobile Imperial Guard. And their plot armor for not being whiped out yet in the lore is extreme XD But that's just personal bias, I can understand why people like them and their look. Mechas are cool :P
As an AOS fan i'm patiently waiting for a Catachan update to dip into 40k. My FLGS does 40k in 50 mins once a month so may get some Krieg but they can't can't lace the boots of the Catachan Jungle Fighters.
@@the_kieran_show I do think the Guard is hurt by how little variety there is in the modern range. I got into 40k in second where you had so many distinct mini ranges for it unified by vehicles, but go back to 1st and you had Guard on horseback and Guard on jetbikes and other things encouraging the idea of building armies at all tech levels depending on your planet.
My least favorites: 5. Chaos Knights (just not a fan of sinking all my points into 1 or 2 overpriced models) 4. Imperial Knights (Same as #5) 3. World Eaters (Had this army before and it was sooo boring to play) 2. Ultramarines (Smurf marines are over represented and dull) 1. Adeptus Custodes (They look like they belong in a 80's He-man knock-off cartoon) For the record, I actually rather like Dark Angels... they're one of my favorite traitor marine chapters. LOL!
I started out with Tyranids (sci-fi nerd) and T'au and highly rate the Hammerhead, Ghostkeel and Shadowsun... but I feel their range lacks variety without diving into Kroot and Aux.
5- Tyranids, just never intrigued me or spoke to me. I do think they are a decent threat in the lore, but it feels like they're really gonna need to pull some chicanery to actually beat them. They are a decent looming threat, but as an army I would never even consider them. 4- Aeldari, this is a defensive measure cause you put Votann at 4, and Aeldari at 4 on your best! For real though I've just never been into Elves in any media, especially not 40k. 3- The guard, I don't like hoard armies. I like vehicles, but I'd rather play an army that has actually sci-fi fantasy elements with it. I keep them out of last cause of the Fall of Cadia. 2- Death Guard, Morty is a bitch. Nurgle is pretty based, but I' usually just not a fan of their asthetic. 1- Admech, I will never understand Admech. I don't understand their rules, I don't get why people like them, I don't really care about their lore. Just never got my attention.
Imperial Guard is the coolest! If a super soldier or a space elf do something cool its just like... yeah, they're a fictional species written to do cool things. Its just expected. If a mostly normal human does something cool and believable against the backdrop of all of 40k's craziness, its so much cooler! They're the underdog of underdogs. Now, tabletop gameplay-wise... yeah I can't actually think of anything I'd like to play less.
One of the armies which always least interested me was Nurgle and Plague Marines. Icky zombies just never really interested me. Orks, on the other hand, are excellent! The opportunities for conversions! The madness (particularly of the old Rogue Trader random charts!🤣🤪)!
Yeah totally get it with the plague marines, they do lack some character (but I guess that’s become their point). Also the thought of painting pox walkers is horrifying 😂
5. Imperial Agents, love the inquisition in the lore but this army didn’t really need to exist as its own codex 4. Tau, love the mech suit models but not a fan of them lore wise, farsight is cool though 3. Votann, decently cool model range but there’s just no lore for them Previous 3 are still decent enough, next 2 I genuinely couldn’t care less about 2. AdMech, not a fan at all of the flesh is weak remove it and replace it with metal robotics trope 1. Genestealers, the mad max vibe is weird, and I just struggle to care at all about gsc, regular Tyranids are just way cooler Both of my bottom 2 are also notoriously among the most, if not the most, expensive armies as well as painting difficulty
1. Ultramarines all day long 2. Guard 3. Eldar 4. Imp knights 5. Custodes Only just found your channel, Slowly working my way through all the videos! 👍🏻
For me, Tau and Leagues of Votann. I worked for GW retail as Tau were first released and I didn't see the appeal. The Votann rules seem overpowered and the lore and aesthetic no longer fits with the Squat characters in Necromunda, which is upsetting. But actually, also Orks. Why they made them T5, I will never know, and they don't really work in 40K lorewise anymore... murderous humanoid fungus that is now tougher than a space marine in power armour? Great video! Thanks chaps!
I'll be honest I really don't understand the beef with T'au (glasses Kieran absolutely does clearly 😂). I know they received alot of hate when they first dropped. Orks are a marmite army I think, they're always split down the middle with people I've spoken to!
@@the_kieran_show when they first arrived they had really long range s5 guns and we all assumed it would be okay because they sucked at combat, and then they got given s4 kroot (who I actually like)... and the boxy original Crisis Suits could do with a redesign... but mostly they just annoy me and I don't think they fit the setting... I'd also like to see human auxilliaries (clearly this is well rehearsed, sorry)...
I fell into a rabbit hole with Adeptus Ridiculous, took a small break from you guys. I'm waiting on a new printer, so I'm not painting and assembling as much right now, so it felt good to listen to a bunch of lore. That being said, I'm happy to be diving back into the backlogs. I love the Custodes take, Sisters are way more intriguing. Also, Orks don't belong? They have such a cool set of lore, but the Tau I absolutely understand. Battletech/Gundam just feels too clean for 40k, let alone their kinda odd lore. And cheers for the Ultramarine hate! I feel like the blueberries are what everyone kinda gets into in the beginning, but ultimately something catches their interest, and then one knows what army they want.
Good to have you back! Sisters are very intriguing and they do have some awesome miniatures. Ultramarines is a strange one because they could be SO much cooler, but like you said it’s the default army to start with so I guess that’s why it remains accessible
Thing is i do generally like all of the 40k factions but if i had to pick a least favourite it’s probably custodes…only because i find them a bit boring.
1. Leagues of Votann (I can't even) 2. Custodes (weirdly boring? Sisters are alright tho) 3. Grey Knights (I feel bad saying it because Garro is cool but the model range is tiny and forgettable except for the terrible baby carrier) 4. Space Wolves (specifically the wolf stuff... what were they thinking?) 5. That's all really... Honourable mention: Any model that is still in finecast thank you very much 😅
@@malmasterson3890 I can think of some things I like about most of them, except for the LoV who I just really dislike. I'm not really a fan of Custodes models but they have some interesting moments lorewise, like the last stand against the Gal Vorbak is particularly memorable to me. Grey Knights have very cool helmets but man some of that early lore they got soured me on them from the start haha. What were your top 8 anyway?
@Archon... 1- Leagues of Votann (They've got a ways to go, but I was so hyped for Space Dwarves and I personally like the asthetic they chose, just not the default League's color scheme. I like the Vehicle & Bike focus rn, and I hope they lean more into that. I'd love to see the train make a return.) 2- Grey Knights (I 100% understand why people, especially some old vets, don't like Grey Knights, but the concept & origins of this faction drew me in immediatel. Combine that with the insanely good CP Box and I was hooked.) 3- CSM (Abaddon and the story of the Fall of Cadia was what sold me on 40k. Also, I just love the asthetic) 4- Necrons (Excellent books, gorgeous models, easy to paint, lmao) 5/6- Both Knights (Just really fun projects to do & watch. Pretty much the only faction that I genuinely enjoy just for the hobbying of builds & painting.) 7- Dark Angels (mostly just The Lion for 40k tbh, 30k DA is where my true loyalty to them is) 8- Custodes (TTS and Henry Cavill pilled, tbh. I love their sub divisions, but I want to see them and SoS used more in the lore. The aquilan & Sisters in particular.) I tend to really like Elite armies, which is probably why if I was being more realistic I'd actually move Votann down to like 4th. I don't like how they've treated them in 10th, Yaegirs were cool, but we need the rest of our range.
Horus Heresy Ultramarines are definitely cooler than their 40k counterpart, but their coolest moment for me is in the First Heretic when they coldly and calculatedly burn Monarchia to ruins
My least favorite 40K army has to be Chaos Daemons. For one simple reason. They're not a cohesive army, most people skew into only a single Chaos God or Monster Mash it up only with Greater Daemons and Be'lakor. They're 4 smaller, seperate forces that should just be part of the dedicated armies associated with their specific Chaos God. AoS does the same thing and the Daemons there are integrated into those armies quite well, so I dont see why 40K can't do the same.(in a world where Emperor's Children have their own Codex at least)
Totally understand the Chaos Daemons thing to be honest, they could be soooooo much better! but the greater demons are seriously awesome mini's! We would love to do a challenge where we each pick a chaos god and paint their greater demon in a day or something!
@@the_kieran_show Greater Daemons are indeed awesome. I own two Lords of Change(one of which will be built as Kairos) and a Great Unclean One. I just think they fit better mechanically and asthetically in the other God-specific Chaos armies.
Imperial Guard had the most potential for variety and have been killed by time.. So much scope for different units and massively under realised.. Catachans desperately need an upgrade
@@the_kieran_show We should have krieg but also Standard Imperial Guard (Cadians effectively) Catachans Mordians Tallarns (or equivalent) Kislevs Valhallans Preatorians Kriegs Attilians And much much more… 🤪
Top worst. 1. Tzeench demons - Demons in general except Belakor and his best buddy Vashtor 2. Imperial Guard - I don't like collecting tanks. I prefer Krieg but I like the idea of guard in kill team. 3. Tau - Gundam is over rated.
1) Admech are cyberpunk/dieselpunk hybrids...NOT "steampunk". 2) T'au are NOT "fishmen". Their vehicles have a lot of aquatic names, but the T'au themselves aren't aquatic. It's like saying Imperial Guard are monsters because most of their vehicles are named after them...
poster boys doodoo, but I extend that thought to almost much every faction and when it dominates the entire range, I don't care about cadia, I don't care about ultramar, don't particularly like abaddon I think it's daemons though for worst for me, I don't think they fulfill the "fantasy" of what the army is supposed to be properly, there's a couple of standout cool models that do fulfill it, but it's all named characters with 100+ quid models, bloodletters just kinda suck, newer daemonettes are just ugly, nurgle's core unit is so lame I always confuse the name with the death guard chaff, horrors are fun, but that's really it
Have to agree with Orks. I've always felt that they are a hangover from Rogue Trader era 40k where things where obviously pitched as standard fantasy tropes in space. They don't really fit with the grimdark themes of the modern game. Same can be said for Votann and Tau.
5.Aeldari 4.Drukhari (Just don't get the elves personally) 3.Ultramarines 2.Dark angels (Not even doing that as a joke aha I'm not a huge space marine fan and they are the main ones that seem so boring to me sorry small Kieran) 1.Leagues of votann(personally not a huge fan of the models and the vibe I like some of the lore I've heard but feels like gw dropped the ball when it came to models)
Im not a guard player (i play nids and GSC) but I would take any guard regiment over any space marines in a heartbeat. That said, cadians are the ultramarines of guard (derogatory).
@the_kieran_show mostly I find the space marine aesthetic boring, bunch of flat plates and even the more flavorful chapters like space wolves don't have as much flavor as I would like (if we're gonna do space Vikings, I'd like to go way more all in on it). I like the diversity and flavor of guard regiments (even if the models for everyone except krieg and cadians are woefully out of date), I like the little scenes that you get on like the heavy weapon team units of these little guardsmen helping each other. When you get multiple space marines together on a model, they're just stoically standing/sitting next to each other. Plus if I can bring in the fluff, I personally find space marines to be the least interesting part of the setting. There are some space marine characters I like (garro from the HH books is compelling to me) but it's a hard sell to get me to care about a space marine, whereas guard characters are more relatable and have more compelling drama to me
My 5 worst would be. Necrons. - Some paint jobs and models can elevate them but bog standard Necrons are so bland. Genestealer cults - Some infantry look nice, everything else is unfocused garbage Tau. - Its the faction for gundam fanatics.. They're nicely design but just out of place in 40K, Leagues of Vohtan - Boring vehicle designs and bland designs all round Drukhari - Outdated models, Cringe Emo aesthetic, will stab you from using them.
Please note that I think all of these have at least SOMETHING going for them - and all have some pretty awesome models. These are just the worst of an overall pretty solid bunch of factions. So without further ado, my objectively correct opinions: 5. (Chaos) Knights. Should not be a faction of their own, end of story. Spectacular models, but just plain stupid as a faction of their own. Make them easy allies for their side of things, done. 4. Deathwatch. Should not be a faction of their own! Awesome background, and a few neat characters... but hardly any actual range of their own? Their background is excellent for the likes of Kill Teaam, but they just feel WRONG as a "full" army in 40K. They started as unique units you could ally in, and should have stayed that way. 3. Custodes. Should not be a faction... I sense a pattern here. Some truly spectacular models, but... there are only 10000 of them, dedicated to protect the Emperor on Terra... yet they are playable as "a proper army" all over the galaxy? Just plain retarded... 2. Grey Knights. See above. At least they have some genuine models of their own, but they share the same problems as Custodes (too few in numbers, way too specialised in their role), just way worse. Like Deathwatch, they should have stayed a special unit as an ally option for Imperium armies. 1. Space Marine variant chapters with their own codex. Same, same. This started way back in Rogue Trader and with dedicated codizes in 2nd edition, but I still believe there are way too many chapters "deserving their own codex". No, they are not!
Let it be known that all of our least favourites are still solid in their own right. They wouldn't be eligible teams if they weren't! You're absolutely on to something with 'shouldn't be a faction' that's a really interesting take. That being said Chaos Knights for example, would you just have Knight Houses in one book? Both loyal and traitor?
5. Tau: Would not have been on this list because they are actualy cool but... KROOT. The Tau gunline makes sence, if you are not a Xenomorp. Shoot em, do not go close and stab ... SHOOT EM! => Very WH40kish. Just because half of their force is failed Tyranid rejects they are here. If you realy wanna play with xeno's, do like me, man up and go Tyranid (or Genestealer Cults, the only good Chaos Cult). 4. Daemons: I love them in AoS and in Warhammer Fantasy, not in WH40k. In this part of the universe they all sound like Slaneshi pleasure ships... Also, in many editions, stupid summoning rules. 3. Astra Militarum, aka Imperial Guard: I only like the Vostroyan and can get behind other folk hyping up Da Krieg, but man, Cadia? Catachan? Why GW? They are the 2 most boring armies of the game and I do not care about their named characters or their units lorewise. All penal sh!t units for all I care. Also, you gonna spend 1000€ in a fantasy game to play a bland HUMAN??? 2. Chaos Space Marines (in general, not the Death Guard => awasome / Thousand Sons => cool): In WH40k, they are still Legio astartes in the 100k marine warbands, deamon infused and they still can't win. How to spell looser? ==> Chaos Space Marine. 1. Leagues of Votan: Weak, pathetic force on the table. I'm a gamer first and foremost and lets face reality here. On a tournament, I do not even want to play against them for the free 25/0 win. Why? Well, everybody and ther dead cat wins against them by showing up. So you get ZERO resistance points for defeating a strong oponent. So if you are tied with another player, but he did not play against Leages of Vomit, he goes to the final 2 and you can go join a Chaos cult out of despair not to be seen next to the LoV.
Some great insights there! Totally agree with the playing of Votann… they just never made much sense. Maybe as the editions go on they will find their identity!
1. Aeldari (minus quins which RIP) - boring elves in space 2. Guard (minus krieg) - why be a human, super boring models as well 3. Tau - not a fan of gundam, and thats basically the whole army 4. Space Marines (ultra marines) - very vanilla and pretty meh 5. Death Guard - respect their models but dont like thr nurgle vibes
I don't get the appeal of Space Marines really...they are so...boring. When I see people talking about them I can't help but think they are the kind of people that would think Vanilla Icecream is too spicy.
I can't stand every Black Templar stan I have met and that had effectively ruined the faction for me. Too into the lore that it affects their vocab, totally unselfaware, and often a poor sport. Now, this probably *shouldn't* detract from the inherent marits of the army, but personally it does and that puts them in the bottom 5 for me. This game lives on positive community interaction and I am continually disappointed but the BT sub community.
worst for me are by far the space commies/Tau as they belong in anime not W40K, cringy lore, their annoying tabletop rules, the fact the only way to make them look passable is if you have an airbrush, I've seen the difference between Tau painted normally vs airbrush is night and day

Plenty of people have said this already, but relatability does help. I also believe strongly that without the imperial guard, the astartes wouldn't feel as cool for so many people since you need regular humans in the game for the super humans to feel super.
That’s a good point about the Space marines feeling cooler because you’ve got normal humans in there too!
LEMAN RUSS BATTLE TANK
You could also play GSC tho
Honestly Ultramarines are the poster boys for a reason - it’s cause they’re SICK, the ultimate epitome of what it is to be an Astartes! I understand people being frustrated that they’re plastered onto every space marine thing and the share doesn’t go around to Salamanders, Imperial Fists, the other codex complaint chapters: but ultimately I still think they’re rad and I’ll always love the boys in blue.
They just ain’t edge lord enough for ya’ll 🤣
Great video, cheers!
Big up the blue smurfs!
nice try matt ward
You have left me hollowed out and ruined.
😂😂😂 Oh mate. I did think of you this week, I knew you'd be upset at this.
Wow most of the armies I play. I feel personally attacked 😂
We've upset some people today that's for sure 😂
I agree with Kieran about Ultramarines, but other Kieran obviously doesn't know what he's talking about! Utterly rediculous 😂
Yes he does. You’re all wrong 🐸☕️
@@the_kieran_show I'm pretty sure Kieran would back me up in my opinions 🦾
Also I think you may need ways of delineating which Kieran we side with e.g. "Kieran A" and "Kieran 1"
Or "the Mongoose" that's a cool name, the "Fighting Mongoose"
"They didn't stick the landing" is the perfect way to describe Votann to me too.
Lost their knee's in the fall
7:24 "I just don't understand when you have so many cool armies you'd still pick bolt action."
I think that's _why_ people love the guard. In a setting where everyone else is some flavor of superhuman, alien, cosmic horror, or combination thereof, the army of normal humans becomes unique.
That's an interesting take!
Orruks are scary in AOS.
Orcs are silly in 40K.
Totally!!
It'd take a life time to conjure a decent force 😂
Whole heartedly agree on the Xenos take, I think there's far more variety that's accessible, they (GW) do a fantastic job at keeping them fresh too.
But if I have to start another Xenos army, I'd probably go for a mix out of Aeldari and Drukhari (Voidscarred Corsairs battle line units + Drukhari Reavers with Ynnari rules; Piratelord with Yvrainne rules as leader until Ynnari hopefully don't need Yvraine as their warlord or until Corsairs can take more than 250 points of Aeldari units into a Drukhari army.)
Though going into a full Wraith Construct army seems also tempting. ^.^
The Tau are beautiful. The fsct they are gorgeous in their own right whilst also having the stunningly brutal bird boys in the Kroot is just awesome. They are two of my favourite looking and designed armies in 40K. The only issue Tau have is that etherals dont use psyker magic!
Also, they aren't fish, they have hooves 🧐🤓
PS EVAs are fucking gorgeous. I wish the battle suits were alive 😢
Moving 200 guardsmen across the board with squads dying left and right, with multiple squads firing back. being the underdog taking an objective with legends being made of officers and random units killing enemy characters with las gun fire theres nothing like it.
Having to paint 200 guardsmen sounds like hell 😅
5 - Knights/Chaos Knights. They just dont make sense in a game of this scale. Giant robots in space
4 - Tau.
Bloody Hair Dressers
2- sisters of battle. They have a blood tank that is a church organ. WTF!! Nuns in Space
1- Custards - We are the emperors guard. Really where is the emperor, oh several hundred light years away. Well done, got his back then?
Blue fishy cows 😂😂😂😂
Y’all have the craziest opinions.
That’s how we roll
@@the_kieran_show I dig it
I like pretty much every faction, cept for elfs, dont like them knife ears one bit.
Spoken like a true Gimli “NO ONE TRUST AN ELF”
@@the_kieran_show Thats why dwarves always have axes no matter the setting, its cause them pointy eared gits live in trees.
1) Ta’u
2) Space Wolves
3) Daemons of Slaanesh
4) Custodes
5) Orks
T'au at bottom! 😭 Those poor blue bois
For me it's like:
5. Death Guard, the army has no identity right now on the tabletop, which is sad.
4. Imperial Knights, they are cool, but they do not really fit the game format
Honorable mention:
Tau - as a Guard player I kinda see them as just a more shooty and mobile Imperial Guard. And their plot armor for not being whiped out yet in the lore is extreme XD
But that's just personal bias, I can understand why people like them and their look. Mechas are cool :P
Yeah death guard are in a tricky spot at the moment!
As an AOS fan i'm patiently waiting for a Catachan update to dip into 40k. My FLGS does 40k in 50 mins once a month so may get some Krieg but they can't can't lace the boots of the Catachan Jungle Fighters.
A sweet sweet Catachan upgrade would be wonderful. I imagine they're getting a Kill Team before too long!
Why play Guard? Same reason people play human fighters in D&D. Sometimes it's fun to be our default and to measure that against the setting's horrors.
Yeah that's a fair assessment. Tbh after reading Gaunts Ghosts it's really interesting hearing about the scale that humanity is up against.
My least favorites:
5. Chaos Knights (just not a fan of sinking all my points into 1 or 2 overpriced models)
4. Imperial Knights (Same as #5)
3. World Eaters (Had this army before and it was sooo boring to play)
2. Ultramarines (Smurf marines are over represented and dull)
1. Adeptus Custodes (They look like they belong in a 80's He-man knock-off cartoon)
For the record, I actually rather like Dark Angels... they're one of my favorite traitor marine chapters. LOL!
Interesting! World Eaters is a funny one, they're just crazy one dimensional. DA being traitor is a given now isn't it? 👀
I started out with Tyranids (sci-fi nerd) and T'au and highly rate the Hammerhead, Ghostkeel and Shadowsun... but I feel their range lacks variety without diving into Kroot and Aux.
Yeah totally agree!
Oh wow these are some left field takes!
But I can be a peoples at home! Don’t wanna play pretend and be… “normal” 😂
5. Imperial Agents, love the inquisition in the lore but this army didn’t really need to exist as its own codex
4. Tau, love the mech suit models but not a fan of them lore wise, farsight is cool though
3. Votann, decently cool model range but there’s just no lore for them
Previous 3 are still decent enough, next 2 I genuinely couldn’t care less about
2. AdMech, not a fan at all of the flesh is weak remove it and replace it with metal robotics trope
1. Genestealers, the mad max vibe is weird, and I just struggle to care at all about gsc, regular Tyranids are just way cooler
Both of my bottom 2 are also notoriously among the most, if not the most, expensive armies as well as painting difficulty
1. Ultramarines all day long
2. Guard
3. Eldar
4. Imp knights
5. Custodes
Only just found your channel, Slowly working my way through all the videos! 👍🏻
So glad we're aligned at 1 😂 welcome aboard mate!
@@the_kieran_show my best mate plays em, so i have to see them alot. The hate tops up each time 😆 cheers mate 👍🏻
I HATE playing against Tau. It's an annoying one trick pony.
And the majority of players I've faced get pissy if they can't table you by turn 2
I think Custodes should have a lower model count and higher attributes. Make them FEEL like Custodes.
1. Leagues of Votann (I can't even)
2. Custodes (weirdly boring? Sisters are alright tho)
3. Grey Knights (I feel bad saying it because Garro is cool but the model range is tiny and forgettable except for the terrible baby carrier)
4. Space Wolves (specifically the wolf stuff... what were they thinking?)
5. That's all really...
Honourable mention: Any model that is still in finecast thank you very much 😅
Omg yes Finecast at Number 1 for sure 🙃🙃🙃
Oof, 3 of my top 8 on your list lol. I agree with Space Wolves though, usually I'm into the viking esthetic, but not in this setting.
@Archon...
1- Leagues of Votann (They've got a ways to go, but I was so hyped for Space Dwarves and I personally like the asthetic they chose, just not the default League's color scheme. I like the Vehicle & Bike focus rn, and I hope they lean more into that. I'd love to see the train make a return.)
2- Grey Knights (I 100% understand why people, especially some old vets, don't like Grey Knights, but the concept & origins of this faction drew me in immediatel. Combine that with the insanely good CP Box and I was hooked.)
3- CSM (Abaddon and the story of the Fall of Cadia was what sold me on 40k. Also, I just love the asthetic)
4- Necrons (Excellent books, gorgeous models, easy to paint, lmao)
5/6- Both Knights (Just really fun projects to do & watch. Pretty much the only faction that I genuinely enjoy just for the hobbying of builds & painting.)
7- Dark Angels (mostly just The Lion for 40k tbh, 30k DA is where my true loyalty to them is)
8- Custodes (TTS and Henry Cavill pilled, tbh. I love their sub divisions, but I want to see them and SoS used more in the lore. The aquilan & Sisters in particular.)
I tend to really like Elite armies, which is probably why if I was being more realistic I'd actually move Votann down to like 4th.
Yeah they totally are cooler in 30k!
Least favourite factions for me:
5) Leagues of Votann
4) T'au
3) Emperor's Children
2) Slaanesh Daemons
1) Space Wolves
Emperors children that low! That’s a hot take!
Yeah but Krieg 👀
@@the_kieran_show
We should have krieg but also
Standard Imperial Guard (Cadians effectively)
Catachans
Mordians
Tallarns (or equivalent)
Kislevs
Valhallans
Preatorians
Kriegs
Attilians
And much much more… 🤪
Top worst.
1. Tzeench demons - Demons in general except Belakor and his best buddy Vashtor
2. Imperial Guard - I don't like collecting tanks. I prefer Krieg but I like the idea of guard in kill team.
3. Tau - Gundam is over rated.
Wow 😂😂
BRO MY TOP THREE 😭T'au, Orks, and Guard all getting GUTTED right now
Sorry 😅
There's no accounting for taste. My 3 armies are orks, Admech and Tau...
A great man once said two out of three ain't bad.
@@the_kieran_show Meatloaf? 😄
Tau worse than custodies…. You are an ultramarine.
*robute Guilliman approves*
If I was going to play Space Dwarves I'd much rather convert Kharadron Overloards than play Leagues of Votan
They do have a pretty cool range! Even the Fyreslayers have some better dwarf sculpts
I don’t like Orks either but I have never met an Orks player I didn’t like. 🤙🏻
Same here!
That’s some Ultra Heresy
Mwahaha
1) Admech are cyberpunk/dieselpunk hybrids...NOT "steampunk".
2) T'au are NOT "fishmen". Their vehicles have a lot of aquatic names, but the T'au themselves aren't aquatic. It's like saying Imperial Guard are monsters because most of their vehicles are named after them...
Imperial guard would definitely be cooler if they actually were hellhounds or basilisks
poster boys doodoo, but I extend that thought to almost much every faction and when it dominates the entire range, I don't care about cadia, I don't care about ultramar, don't particularly like abaddon
I think it's daemons though for worst for me, I don't think they fulfill the "fantasy" of what the army is supposed to be properly, there's a couple of standout cool models that do fulfill it, but it's all named characters with 100+ quid models, bloodletters just kinda suck, newer daemonettes are just ugly, nurgle's core unit is so lame I always confuse the name with the death guard chaff, horrors are fun, but that's really it
Yeah, agree with demons, they would be so much cooler if they got new/less generic models! But Be’lakor is an incredible mini!
Have to agree with Orks. I've always felt that they are a hangover from Rogue Trader era 40k where things where obviously pitched as standard fantasy tropes in space. They don't really fit with the grimdark themes of the modern game. Same can be said for Votann and Tau.
5.Aeldari
4.Drukhari
(Just don't get the elves personally)
3.Ultramarines
2.Dark angels
(Not even doing that as a joke aha I'm not a huge space marine fan and they are the main ones that seem so boring to me sorry small Kieran)
1.Leagues of votann(personally not a huge fan of the models and the vibe I like some of the lore I've heard but feels like gw dropped the ball when it came to models)
Good lawd above, this is the hottest take yet!
As a LoV fan, there's definitely a lot of copium I admit. They've done a terrible job this edition with them, and I really hope it gets better.
Im not a guard player (i play nids and GSC) but I would take any guard regiment over any space marines in a heartbeat. That said, cadians are the ultramarines of guard (derogatory).
That's interesting! We've been blown away actually by the Guard votes, what does it for you over Space Marines do you think?
Genestealer cults - Some infantry look nice, everything else is unfocused garbage
Tau. - Its the faction for gundam fanatics.. They're nicely design but just out of place in 40K,
Leagues of Vohtan - Boring vehicle designs and bland designs all round
Drukhari - Outdated models, Cringe Emo aesthetic, will stab you from using them.
Necrons bottom 5 is a hot take!
Please note that I think all of these have at least SOMETHING going for them - and all have some pretty awesome models. These are just the worst of an overall pretty solid bunch of factions.
So without further ado, my objectively correct opinions:
Tau is not Eva. They are GUNDAM!
Kieran is 100% correct about Kroot
Both of us have very different opinions on Kroot!
@@the_kieran_show Yes.
So you don’t like space marines as ultra marines are just flavour with in space marines and not their own unique army there is no codex ultramarines
They did have their own codex supplement for 8th/9th edition which is what we based this on 😀
1. Aeldari (minus quins which RIP) - boring elves in space
2. Guard (minus krieg) - why be a human, super boring models as well
3. Tau - not a fan of gundam, and thats basically the whole army
4. Space Marines (ultra marines) - very vanilla and pretty meh
5. Death Guard - respect their models but dont like thr nurgle vibes
Death guard in the bottom! not heard that one before!
I don't get the appeal of Space Marines really...they are so...boring. When I see people talking about them I can't help but think they are the kind of people that would think Vanilla Icecream is too spicy.
Hahaha this is so great. Some Space Marines we can get behind for sure, but it's all lore aided. If the stories are good we're fine with it.
Depends on the Marines. Black Templars are far from boring.
Ultra marines are pretty bad to be fair. He really should watch evangelion tho
Maybe one day he will actually watch it….
Thats so strange! Maybe we're not in those circles. We both absolutely love BT's but the last thing we'd want is to adhere to their mannerisms 🤣
Maybe the real tosh are the lists you made along the way
Ooft
You play Imperial Knights because you want to play Battletech while others play 40K, duh 😂
Haha I suppose you could argue that for most armies.
Knights - Battletech
Tau - Gundam
Tyranids - A Bugs Life 🐛
worst for me are by far the space commies/Tau as they belong in anime not W40K, cringy lore, their annoying tabletop rules, the fact the only way to make them look passable is if you have an airbrush, I've seen the difference between Tau painted normally vs airbrush is night and day
Yeah that’s very true with tau and painting! It certainly helps to have the airbrush!
Ultra marines are indeed lame af.
Not as lame as Space Wolves...the most try-hard bro chapter of them all.
@@batteredwarrior Lol space wolves are my favorite.
🥲🥲🥲
Some wack opinions not gonna lie, but you are allowed to have your incorrect opinions. Jk love you guys
Controversial = Views 🤣
Tau are the best my worst 5 is 5.Orks 4.ultramarines 3.nids 2. Imperial guard 1. Necrons
Necrons that low! Blimey
@@the_kieran_show I hate them they are my favorite match up because I refuse to lose to them it brings out the best and most competitive spirit in me. over the years I'm 82 and 4 against them between friendly and competitive games.
Ultramarines trash tier confirmed
Ooooooft
Who can DISLIKE orcs? like i understand not caring for them....but disliek
Hey, half of us dislike Orks. Don't tarnish us with the same brush 😂
