@@susanconnolly4931 I like Lindt Cooking Dark Chocolate. But when I can't find it, I use Santander 70% Dark, or Ghirardelli baking chocolate. In terms of milk, depending on the country I am. I use almond unsweetened when I'm the the US. It's easier to find almond milk that doesn't separate when heated. If in other countries, I go for lactose free skim milk.

In Spain there's a similar (if not the same) tradition of thick and saucy hot chocolate, which are served with churros that are NOT sugar-coated (unlike what they do in Mexico). It's soooo good. Places that serve this "chocolate con churros" are called "chocolaterías". I'm glad to see that style of chocolate not only in one country!
There's a chain restaurant type of place in my country that does Spanish hot chocolate, I used to absolutely love going there because I haven't seen anything else like it where I live. They've dropped massively in quality in the past 5 years, though, their hot chocolate is nowhere near as thick or rich as it used to be :( I've been looking for a recipe like this for that reason
Mexicans have a wide variety of churros, some savory, some sugar coated, some with fillings. They have regular not-sugar-coated churros, and almost exactly the same type of hot chocolate as well
In México when you add corn starch to a hot beverage, It Is called "atole". Atoles aré really flavourful. Among the different flavours, you can have :chocolate, strawberry, guava, coconut, vanilla , pecan, etc. And as for hot chocolate, we have a special kind of chocolate that we call "chocolate de mesa". Which Is really tasty and flavourful. We usually have It at night Time or at any Time if the Day/ evening Is kind of cold! Really delicious. There's several brands AND different flavours like: cinnamon, vanilla, plain, etc. Yours seems to be very tasty as well. Going to try It! Ty for sharing the récipe.👍😸☕

American food is like a Gremlin car...and European food is like a Porsche......love food made in Europe.....richness and full flavor, with such care in the making of what ever it is. Like a beautiful painting.
This is so true! I'm Colombian-American. One of the things I learned when I moved to Italy, is to prepare only foods that are in season; because that is when their flavor is at its best. Having lived my childhood in Colombia, this was such a foreign concept to me. Along the Equatorial line, everything is always in season. i.e: Mangos are produced all year round. We have 2 summers: Jul and Jan, that becomes "mango season" simply because there are more mangos than usual. I moved to Miami as an adolescent. Again, in the land of plenty, there are plenty of imports all year round. It was only when I moved to Italy, that I started noticing you can only get certain fruit and vegetables, certain times a year. One may get almost everything at a supermarket, but they are colorless, small imports from Africa. I started taking notes: "- Zucchini blossoms are from May to Sept. - Oranges are from Oct to Dec., etc..." I learned this, and the art of medium and slow (both Italians and French call it slow instead of low) temperatures in Italy and from my French partner. Both aspects make all the difference. The lesson boils down to respect. If you respect the "material" you're cooking, you learn its properties, texture, water content, etc, you'll know what temperature it requires.
Italians are masters at this. They can take 3 ingredients and elevate a dish to restaurant quality just by using ingredients in season, and at the right temperature: - Oct: pumpkin ravioli with butter and fresh sage. - Nov: fettuccine with gorgonzola, pear and walnuts...
I was about 19 the first time I experienced this hot chocolate (drinkable hot chocolate pudding!) I was a revelation! Thanks for sharing and bringing back a decades old memory of Italy!

What a beautiful little ritual. Cherish it. I hope you learn to make HIS chocolate ❤ My father knew I love lilies. Every time I'd fly to visit him in Colombia, he would have them waiting for me. No orange juice has ever tasted the same, but I do get lilies whenever they are in season. I also found an excellent perfume by Cartier that smells of lilies. That scent smells like a hug to me.

Looks delicioso! We always make Mexican hot chocolate for the holidays 🇲🇽. I sometimes like to top it with whipped cream and a dusting of chilli powder, which gives it a nice little kick, and harkens back to Aztec times. Ancient Mexicans were the first to roast cacao and boil it as a drink using chilli!
Winter is fast approaching in the Northeast USA. I’m going to make this yummy recipe and drink it while wrapped up in my favorite blanket. I always enjoy trying something new. Blessings and Thank You for sharing your recipe.❤
This really warms my heart 🥰 First of all you mention Torino - the place where I experienced my first hot Italian chocolate. My friends explained to me that the further north in Italy you go, the thicker the chocolate is going to be. Very fluid in the south - and your recipe is just what I had 30 years ago for the first time - in the north, in Torino. But I also noticed a third cup - for the camera woman/man. How thoughtful 🤗
This video was so comforting. I am part Sicilian and grew up with my Italian family and did not have a good childhood. My grandma was well intentioned but not healthy to be around, so this video felt like being taught by the grandma I never had. Thank you so much for making this video!!
You are very good at explaining. I throughly enjoyed watching and listening to you and I’m all fired up to have my heart warmed by this chocolate drink.
Thank you for sharing such a special recipe. I had hot chocolate in Mexico made from melted chocolate disks that had cinnamon in it and thought it was amazing. This Italian version looks even more decadent. I'm excited to try it.
Thank you so very much for the recipe. As a student I lived in Firenze for some time. And will not forget this kind of chocolate all my life. Now I can try the chocolate again with some memories of Firenze. Best regards from Germany
Wow! What a great video! I love the duo input! When he described the comparison to American hot chocolate it gave me greater insight. I just knew I would love this but then I realized it might need more sugar for me since I am not as accostumed to bitter versus sweet. I prefer sweet so I might ad just an eighth more of sugar to see if that suits me. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe!
@@doracotterell2863I don’t know about anyone else, but a quick dash to the store for some Ibarra or Abuelita’s hot chocolate (Ibarra is still made in Mexico) does wonders. Boil the disc of hardened chocolate in milk (keep stirring) and top with a little whipped cream and a dusting of chilli powder before and after (to taste). That part really adds to the palate of flavors and is an ode to the Aztecs and other civilizations that were the first to roast cacao and boil it into a beverage with chilli. 🇲🇽 It’s perfect for a quick/lazy and delicious pick me up (or relax me down) on a cold day!
This looks wonderful! I only knew about the Spanish hot chocolate, it's also thick, the type of hot chocolate that accompanies "churros". Now I really want to try this recipe too, I love that it's made with chocolate bars ❤️ It looks so indulgently rich!

This is a common traditional light breakfast found in cafes, etc in Spain 🇪🇸 served with Spanish churros (crispy fried dough, but not covered in cinnamon like the Mexican version) and is DIVINE as the chocolate flavor is intense with a thick, creamy, velvety consistency without be overly sweet. Once you have true hot chocolate like this, you call other watery chocolates “dirty water” because they taste like the water used to rinse the empty cups lol😂
Mexicans have a variety of churros, some with cinnamon, some without, some with just sugar, some that are savory with no sugar, some with fruit fillings, and some with a creamy cheese filling. Regular churros without cinnamon and without sugar is also common, especially served with “abuelitas” blocks of chocolate that get melted and can be turned into a hot chocolate recipe almost exactly like the one in this video, just changing the type of cream and brand of chocolate used.
I dont usually drink hot chocolate because I have never found one that I like. Too sweet. I will try this one. . Thank you for the recipe and the video. God Bless.
I first had a taste of European hot chocolate at a cafe in in San Marco, Venezia, Italia in 2015 and boy what a revelation. It was like being transported to heaven. I could still feel the rich, velvety smooth taste of the hot chocolate drink. I couldn't stop drinking it. We've traveled to other European countries since then and I always try to get me their hot chocolate drink. Although, they are good but still nothing can compare to the one I had in Italy. Who needs the chocolate, these two are adorable! Love this channel!
Wonderfully cozy & comforting video, Ms. Giovanna's warmth is radiant! We all laughed when the 3rd cup disappeared at 4:37. That's a sign of truly irresistible Italian Hot Chocolate! ☺
THIS is the hot chocolate I’ve been searching for my entire life! And I’m Italian! How did I miss this??!?
🤣👍🏻🍫
You didn't, you found it. Hope you enjoy during the wintery days.
@@scladoffle2472 What are implying here, sounds snarky.
@@scladoffle2472 I'm NOYFB Italian. How's that?
As a Mexican, it’s never missed! 🇲🇽😂
Chocolate is one thing but these two cute grandparents are everything 😍😍
Being Grandparents is the absolute Best!
Just made this and OMG its amazing, I used honey instead of sugar and the salt makes all the difference.
I don't know whose grandparents these are but they warmed my heart. ❤ I'll try this here where I am as it is getting chilly
This is very similar to the chocolate gravy I grew up with in Tennessee/Alabama except we just use the coco powder. It's poured over buttermilk biscuits to turn them into a sweet treat. Always looked forward to it when at Memwas home❤
My NC mom would make us chocolate and biscuits when we were little.
This is the hot chocolate that my dear mother would make during my childhood. I can close my eyes and almost taste the comforting smoothness and warmth of a cup even now. During christmas time, she would add a touch of mint extract. Thank you for sharing!
This was charming, refreshing and we will absolutely make this recipe!
I’ve made this many times now, but sometimes I do skip around the steps and of course it doesn’t come out as well. You said the devil is in the details, and that is absolutely spot on for this recipe! Absolutely love making this, and I often turn it into more of a chocolate pudding by using extra cornstarch. Thank you, Giovanna!
Yesss 🙌 a little chili powder, omg that’s so delicious with chocolate 😋
Winter is fast approaching in the Northeast USA. I’m going to make this yummy recipe and drink it while wrapped up in my favorite blanket. I always enjoy trying something new. Blessings and Thank You for sharing your recipe.❤
This really warms my heart 🥰
First of all you mention Torino - the place where I experienced my first hot Italian chocolate. My friends explained to me that the further north in Italy you go, the thicker the chocolate is going to be. Very fluid in the south - and your recipe is just what I had 30 years ago for the first time - in the north, in Torino.
But I also noticed a third cup - for the camera woman/man. How thoughtful 🤗
just tried it, its perfect.
usually youtuber-recipes only look good. this is one of the few exceptions.
It will warm heart and spirit !!
Your explanations and descriptions are so clear! Can’t wait to try this!
Боже! Какая приятная дама! Прекрасный рецепт, обязательно буду готовить! Спасибо!

Just made it with Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips. Wow! Soooooo delicious, and decadent! Thank you for this recipe. Love, from Cleveland, Ohio!
Charming people, charming home, charming chocolate & pottery! Pura bellezza ❤
The sweetest couple ever!
Mexican chocolate is fabulous too… love the Italiano version. That is my favorite.
Will you kindly share with us your favourite Mexican Hot Chocolate recipe?
I’d love to try it!
Grazie, Giovanna!! Buon Natale!! 🎄🎁 🍫
Prego e Buon Natale!
This looks wonderful! I only knew about the Spanish hot chocolate, it's also thick, the type of hot chocolate that accompanies "churros".
Now I really want to try this recipe too, I love that it's made with chocolate bars ❤️ It looks so indulgently rich!
my god, hot chocolate + churros sounds incredible
@@shadycactus6146It’s what one Spanish king used to eat for breakfast, I forget which. His English queen was horrified, or so the story goes 😂
Chocolate y churros = paraiso
Since we found your video we are doing the hot chocolate every time it gets cold or rainy. It is just sooo comforting and warms the heart. Thank you
Thank you for the recipe. I've just prepared it, and it's smooth and creamy. Delicious.
I am going to try it, very well explained and great indoors!
Cannot wait to try it later. ☕ It looks so rich and creamy, I can see why you'd not need anything with it. Dark chocolate 🍫 is very healthy, too, especially with less sugar. Yum!
You can control the amount of sugar: more or less to taste, for equally delicious Italian Hot Chocolate.
Thank you for sharing!
Growing up, my nana and I used to have all sorts of adventures in the kitchen. She would have enjoyed your channel.
I JUST FOUND YOUR CHANNEL! THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS WONDERFUL RECIPE!!! YOU TWO ARE ADORABLE!!
I made your recipe twice and it was wonderful. I plan to make it again soon. Thank you, Giovanna! I love your videos.
I am so glad you like them, thank you! More videos are coming soon!
O Dio quanto mi manca! Ho vissuto a Bologna per 20 anni e lo bevevo ogni inverno. Sono passati quasi 30 anni da quando sono tornato nel mio Paese e tante volte ho provato a ricreare questa gioia.
This brings back fond memories of sipping on warm, luscious, Italian hot chocolate whilst wondering the streets of Rome in early winter. Thank you sharing this ♥️
Yes indeed. Let's bring back the memories, and prepare it at home!
Lovely recipe and lovely style of video! ❤ You're so comforting!
Thank you so much for this recipe, and all of the other recipes you've shared on your channel too. Made this last night in lieu of a weekend dessert, and it was as beautifully velvety, rich, and creamy as you described. Thank you again, and Happy Holidays!
Hi Simon, I'm delighted that you tried this wonderful recipe so quickly. Your pleasure gives me pleasure!
Mm must do this. A lovely kitchen with all the green and light. Lovely music. Cheers!
I love your way to make hot choc, Mrs Giovanna. ❤️
In a world is full of war, this channel gives me life. Thank you so much :)
I love Christmas so much, I cant wait to make this!!
This looks very similar if not, exactly like the Spain’s version of hot chocolate! Very delicious and so rich. Thanks for this video, I can’t wait to make this for my family ♥️
Thank you for the great content and for the beautiful production quality!
The thanks go to my beloved Granddaughter Francesca La Marca Sacco who is also an accomplished violinist about to graduate from The Mannes School of Music and The New School University in New York City.
Its funny how the gentleman didnt show as much of excitement but he enjoyed it for sure! Looks incredibly delicious and I am a sucker for any kind of chocolate.❤
You are so right! "intense with a thick, creamy, velvety consistency" a well deserved praise. Yes, accompanied by churros it's a Heavenly treat!
@@GiovannaBelliaLaMarca churros .. no.. but I think wafer biscuits d light d soft crunchy strawberry/banana flavrd wafer
God Bless.
I loved the way you explained in detailed, why it should be added whats the impact.... Shows your joy of cooking it perfect 👏👏👏👏
Thank you for the recipe! Grazie!
I had this thick hot cocoa in Postojna Cave in Croatia two weeks ago, it was delicious. I can't wait to try making it. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
Giovanna, this video warmed my heart, this italian hot chocolate is going to be the perfect drink in this season.😊 Thank you and Merry Christmas!🎄
Merry Christmas to you!
I made this and I couldn’t believe how wonderful it tasted. I will never go back to drinking regular hot chocolate again, this hot chocolate is the best!
What an excellent video!! This hot chocolate looks absolutely fantastic; I can't wait to try it for myself! You two are just lovely. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you: the chocolate is really fantastic if I must say so myself! It's a wonderful treat! Enjoy it.

Have always wanted to serve my children this little taste of Italy. Thank you
Just what I needed. I have been spending euros looking for the right hot chocolate but now I am gonna make my own :D Thank you🥰
Velvety and delicious, has the perfect texture and flavour. I loved to make it for me and my father in this rainy afternoon. Thank you!
Watching older people do cool things warms my heart. ♥ Will make this for sure. Thanks for the recipe. ♥
You think old people are uncool and suddenly you had a revelation. Puh-leeze!!
@@northstarsmith6798 I think they meant that sometimes old people can't do cool things anymore because of their physical limitations due to old age, not that they're inherently boring
Looks absolutely delicious ❤ Loved watching you make it!
Thank you!
Nona, will you would you consider adopting a middle aged black man 🥹? I eat a lot, but I’ll do ALL the house chores! 😂
Best recipe for winter
It warms body and Soul!
I appreciate that you used oat milk. Definitely going to try this!
Its soo velvety and intense flavour, like a winter dream. Thank You, Your instructions were very precise. I have never been to Italy, but I have tasted such kind of chocolate elsewhere and since then I wondered how it was done. Thank You very much❤
I made this on Christmas Eve and it was absolutely sensational!
Giovanna, you’re the cutest! The ending is just so adorable!! Thanks for sharing the recipe!
I don't currently have a stove so I tried this recipe in my microwave... It worked perfectly! I'm impressed! Soooo comforting!
Thank you for sharing the microwave method!
I made this for my family over Christmas and they loved it so much!! I told them all about your wonderful Chanel! I now am making it again today as a pick me up for myself ❤️
It’s a wonderfully delicious pick me up! Thank you.
What childhood memories from so so long ago your recipe brought! Hot chocolate from Spain is very much the same and so delicious. My grandma use to make it only in winter because summers in Cuba are so very hot. Of course here in America I’ve tried make it but not like grandma’s. Traditionally it is eaten with churros and it is heaven. Thank you!
Churros and hot chocolate are a memorable treat!
Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to try and make some. I hope we get snow in NC this year so I may enjoy on a snowy day..
Hola !
Mi abuelita aqui en en Costa Rica me enseño a hacer el chocolate con maicena pero con esa modalidad extra de chocolate se ve delicioso .gracias por comparti su receta.

I don't usually cook or make food but there is something like magic in your video..cozy and warm vibes that I can feel despite the distance.
You remind me of my grandma who I used to spend many days at her home and prepare food together especially in winter days like december.
She is died now and I miss her so thank you for your video it brings me the same vibes ❤️
Merry Christmas 🎄
Спасибо. Вы так красиво и обаятельно все показали, рассказали,что я в восхищении. Я не люблю шоколад,но с вами все хочется приготовить. !!!
Giovanna, you are beautiful ❤ thank you for sharing this recipe. I drank it once on my way to Sardinia 25 years ago and I love it since then. Love from Turkey ❤

I love how you speak. I am Latina but I understood everything you said with no subtitles ❤️ you are adorable. I love Italian food and culture because it reminds my grand grandparents.
I remember you from Pasta Grannies. You were the only granny who moved from Italy to America! I remember your making some kind pasta, and you said you could make them all while the water boils (or something like that). You were a good teacher in that video. The same is true for this one! I'd love to try this. Thank you for sharing.
