BR2 looks like it’s been the best overall results from all the test you’ve done so far. Really can’t wait to see how it performs when you get to actual group testing
IMO, there are still more data to collect in order to make a decision on primers. I'd zero on a charge for each primer and compare groups, velocity, SD and ES. Only then I would make a decision on primers. Still very interesting. You might convince me to buy different primers. Keep them coming.
I am new to the channel but have been enjoying what you produce. Thanks. I have been casually reloading since 1984-85. More off than on the past decade. But I expect to get a refresher and learn a good bit from you and your guntuber buddies. I have a few questions I hope to find answers for in your vids.
I’d like to see you duplicate one of your next 10 shot velocity string tests with all the exact same components at the same time back to back. Curious to see how the 2 graphs would compare.
I really curious to see what turns up with the fire formed brass. Staying tuned for the group testing. I want to see how the bullet works with the Tikka.
Great video! Is there a resource to explain some of the benchmarks you are looking at? I’m talking barrel time and velocity node. I’m new to this kind of stuff and suddenly have a couple weeks of time in my hands😀! Thanks Jeff
If your calling both primers a tossup , why not go with the BR-2 cci. It stayed closer to your projection. THE GMM was high in vol but not as accurate. Depends what your doing again, hunting the GMM primer would do ok. If shooting match, the BR -2 has the edge.
Really enjoy your reloading videos. I'm very new to reloading. I'm also going to be handloading for 30-06. In a previous video you talked about using magnum primers instead large rifle primers in extreme cold weather conditions, (which I'll be hunting in this November in northern Alberta. ) for more consistent powder burn rates. According to the reloading manuals this is an unsafe practice. I guess I'm looking for advice on weather to develop loads using magnum primers for my 30-06 for hunting in extreme weather conditions.
Hi Rod, While you are always responsible for your own loading practices. Generally you need to not use magnum primers with max loads. They will Likely have higher pressures. Just like anything else, start low and work up looking for pressure. You will see difference in velocities. I recommend you checking out this video: ua-cam.com/video/CWo-D40M9Y0/v-deo.html to see the differences the primers play in ignition and velocity. Best of Luck, BAR
Hey Marvin, I started reloading in '94 and a 30/06 was the first caliber I ever loaded for. I began with H414, which is the spherical powder, just like H380 is, but I (just preference) like the extruded powder better and switched over to the H4350 instead. Both powders shot extremely well in my gun. You can give it a try and see how well it shoots in yours and whichever shoots better is what I'd go with and never look back, but if neither satisfy your expectations, then you could start experimenting with other powders as well. I've never used H380 before, but my previous and my current 30/06, both like H4350,so that's what I've stuck with. I even use Hodgdon's website also, as they have alot of information to offer.
Thanks you for your video, very informative chanel! Just a question/ a bottle in the sea of data... May be a bit of topic but not too far :), I try to develop a load for my 270 Bergara ridge (24'medium barrel) I would like to use the RL26 powder (pushing mostly 140/150grain projectiles) I bought the CCI200 Large rifle primer as standard ,since it's a relatively slow powder, would it be worth using some Magnum rifle primer like the CCI250? Or do I have my logic twisted wrong... Thanks
I have used magnum primers in applications that don't call for them, but I have always made sure you reduce your charge since the primers will probably be a little hotter.
Hello, I would post it in my videos but there is a copyright to the info. Here is a link to the paper on line. It shows all the nodes based on barrel length. www.the-long-family.com/OBT%20Table.pdf
It is not a rimfire scope. It is just older like the rifle. It has handled the recoil of the rifle for its whole life. I will probably upgrade it for the next phase of testing but it still works.
Can’t wait to see your comparison between 4350 n Varget on paper !
Love my 30/06.
Notice how the hotter 215M not only yields higher velocities but also a flatter graph showing more consistent ignition with lower charge weights.

If the end goal is a hunting load for a hunting cartridge, the magnum primer is the only way to go.
Hell i run small Rifle primers in my 357 mag loads and in my 7.62x25mm tokarev hand loads its basically a +p. Load .
Did you ever test imr 4064 powder with the 150 grain bullets I’ve got good accuracy with it in 30-06
I have those Federal mag match primers. Will be making some 06 ,with them. Like using one 4895 And h4895 will try more imr4064.

Just bought a black bear in 3006, keep the 3006 info coming
I wasn't aware of that CCI primer.
I have always used IMR 4350. I get 1/2” groups with swift sirroco bullets. Any comparison between the two powders??? Anyone ??

Awesome! Data!
Will the BR-2 work in a 30-30 lever action ? Large rifle Primer is HARD to find but this is available . But I want to be sure if it works . Thanks
Good canal

Mine tikka likes 55.5gr h4350 180gr Sierra gk 67.82mm cbto anialed at 500 mtrs staking them
Looks like 300win mag velocities.
It seems like you don't have enough data points to know a node from a shot that is on the edge of a standard deviation.
In this primer famine any primer is a great primer next year ain’t looking good either
Been using H380 for 30.06 and fairly new to reloading. Windering if I should be using H4350 ?

@@BoltActionReloading Thank you, I'll keep that in mind!
What method are you using to come to the barrel time of 1.037 ms as being where you want to be?

Bullet weight in grains please?
Hi Mike at 1:47 it the load data has the speer 150gr
Do you load for 270 Winchester???
I have not yet.
I hand load for in .270 Win up here in Alaska...a stainless Tika T3x lite and a Remington 700. I use 4350 and Reloader 22 for 130 gr bullets.
Isn't that a rimfire scope? I doubt that can handle the recoil of a 30 caliber rifle???
It is not a rimfire scope. It is just older like the rifle. It has handled the recoil of the rifle for its whole life. I will probably upgrade it for the next phase of testing but it still works.
@@BoltActionReloading I stand corrected
You do know what you are doing but can you slow down
150 grain
53 grains of 4350 over a 165 Nosler Partition is my pet load in my Model 70... xxxxxtremely accurate.
I'm sorry but when you shoot a cheap ass gun and scope and brass expect
you will be good for for a short time but that won't last
