I've been in stone's throw (literally) of grouse so many times during elk hunts, I wished I had the permit to kill them when I saw them.

There was no way he got an ember with that set up, the spindle had no colour at all, therefore no friction and no heat, you're being called out on this... FAKE
What do you mean the spindle had no color? I do this all the time and my spindles don't turn any colors.
The base of the spindle will darken from the friction. Even if your getting your dust from the hearth, the spindle will be dark after achieving ember. And there is alot of smoke when making the ember... There was almost no smoke when he did it. I'm no expert but I love doing this kind of stuff for fun

I’m pretty sure it’s edited i remember watching this full episode at one point before and I don’t remember him getting it on the first try like that on the actual show I thought it took like 3 or 4 I even vaguely remember him complaining about it being wet.

- That spindle had no char on it, there was no smoke from spinning or blowing on it... yet he produced an ember at a “suspect” scene change into the tinder bundle.
- The two men seemed unemotional as if they tapped out on some “scripted” cue.
- That woman seriously walked up to within 12 feet of a grouse in the wild?? And then weakly lobbed that big bone, and I’m supposed to believe it could not react in time and fly away? Has anyone besides me ever seen how fast a grouse can take off into flight?

I agree as well. Though I have walked up on grouse and bin within a couple of feet before they took flight, but normally you can't get much closer than 20 ft.

Entering the wild forest to challenge yourself to survive alone, you have the courage to overcome it, human strength is unlimited.

I don't know why anyone underestimated the woman. Women are a lot tougher and smarter than men not bc they want to be but bc they have to be. I miss my Mommy, give me a break! Aren't these people suppose to tough survivalist? What did this guy expect? I would have hated to have him in my unit in 'Nam" I wouldn't have made it home, or more likely he won't.
Well, most people in cities and towns have never experienced a whole day out in a forest. During my boot camp days, there were guys who were afraid of trees in the dark and getting too far behind the platoon. Mind you, 'far behind' means anything less than close enough that you feel their breath down your neck. They got used to it eventually, but it tells you something about people who live their entire lives in concrete environments and think that adventure is like this show. Just being out in a forest and sharpening a stick. Coming back to the city would probably yield stories more extravagant than what you actually went through during your tour(s). So when i hear rural people say "city folk.." i know what they mean.
He meant he was having a hard time around dear Lindsey under the tree boughs and went home to get some from his wife when Lindsey wouldn't put out.

Most urban people can not survive in the wilderness but most who live off grid and lived off the land can survive!
yeah, even practicing living without electricity for a few days and then incrementally increasing the days to a week can help. I wish I'd done that before storms knocked power out for 3 days at a time. I lived in the woods, yet didn't learn as much as I should have. This series and the comment section fills me with ideas.

hello i'm vietnamese, how can i register for the 100 day survival challenge?
i wish you could. vietnamese seem crafty - can figure out a way to make something from nothing. nothing is wasted. Maybe write other Asians to make a show just for Asia - Mongolians, Thai, Japanese, Chinese. If Asians can all listen to that stupid K-pop, J-pop, and now C-pop (Chinese), then they should all be able to agree on teaching survival skills - something useful!
The Japanese are especially good at learning about and using wild mountain foods.
I'd watch that if the translations were good. Asians do the worst job on translating to English, though

Believe it or not it’s true. Moose meat has virtually 0 fat. It is a very lean meat.

Working in a garden or playing in the woods leaves your hands with many small scratches and cuts and your fingertips sometimes also get stained by saps from trees and even certain mushrooms and berries. Maybe she wore gloves, though.

I owned and operated a 400 sq. mile trapline for 33 years in remote British Columbia mountains,
I bought 20 achers of private land surrounded by crown land about 7 miles up the valley past the last ranch
Lived there with the wife,,, She had 4 kids by the time we found out what was causing it ....he-he ....
I probably would have left some hide on the quarters, Once you get a good overnight chill into it the hide will help keep it cooler during the day, and keep the blowflies from shootin their eggs all over it ..as soon as its above freezing they will find it...just keeps the meat nice and clean.
One time I had just shot a moose and a cold snap hit. I wrapped a frozen skinned quarter in polly and buried it in snow beside the trap camp (with wife and first kid (3-month-old baby girl) way up the valley.about 4 weeks later a chinook had settled in when I dug it out the outer meat had turned very dark and had a thin mould on it which I carefully skinned off not wasting any meat.... That was the best-cured moose meat I'd ever had ...
when my Bro and I shot the moose and ski-doo it back to the old cabin we were using all we had was a wood heater stove, not a cookstove and a frying pan so we cut out the inside loins ( Filet Mignon ) and cut off some fat to render and fry in and yanked out our dozen brewski's ...Oh- Man talk about flavour...

Oh and if you carefully cut out the diaphragm it makes the best jerky going by just anging it on a stick by the fire,

Kinnikinnick (Common Bearberry) is great stuff and grows almost everywhere.
It can also be made into a tea to treat inflammation of the urinary tract, kidney stones, back sprains and other infections. Native American tribes powdered the leaves and applied them to sores. The berries were made into a tea that was used to ward off obesity and eaten as emergency food.....it makes a good smoke in a pinch too but lots of little ambers fall and you'll get little burn spots if not carefull.....
The Spruce Tree also is abundant ...The Cambium layer (inner bark) can be cut thin and make a mountain spaghetti

So, they "ethically" killed a moose for the TV show (with permission & supervision of the First Nations, so that is good) Then the whole animal was wasted because two bailed out & the last one was unable to keep a bear away & needed fat? That is outrageous!
Well it was not exactly wasted, the bear made quick work of it I'm sure and it was very beneficial to the bear, if it was a female it will help her produce enough milk for her cubs.
wasting animal meat/products is unethical, but if the bear ate it, it isn't wasted.
