It took me almost 15 years to realize why I could never sustain Arnold’s workout routines…a natty lifter should NEVER do that amount of volume as it’s counterproductive and plain dangerous.
That's right. You still need a body that can actually tolerate it. Even if there would be no steroids, Arnold could probably still train harder than 90% of people out there, simply because his body can take more damage than others. Think about joints, ligaments and so on.

Overtraining worked quite well for me when I was young. It had a negative side effect though, that everyone though I was a big liar, because I said I did not take steroids, and I didn't. But everyone would say it was impossible to get that physique and strength naturally. It was quite annoying. It actually took some of my motivation out, because the bigger I got, the bigger liar I was.
It ok, dude! I trained with 5 guys that took steroids like it was candy. None of them are alive today! They try getting me to take ! But refused it! They could not believe how strong I was compared to them. The difference between them and me was I'M A FARM BOY! I'm training every day at sunrise and then hitting the gym late afternoon. Try carrying 50 lbs of fertilizer for 100 of yard's 3 to 5 times a day! There is no need for the gym, but I like lifting weights for healthy reasons. Bench pressing 225 for 15 times and deadlift 300 for 5 times . Leg press I stick with 300. Wasn't into bodybuilding. Just exercise! These 5 have already passed away from steroids, Liver, heart, blood clots! I'm 63 years old today and still working out in the gym. Farm life over, thank you IRS!
@@ericcarter2020 In my younger years I was rather skinny (1m90 80kg) but I worked in sound & light rental and I was used to lift heavy stuff (like stacking 75kg touring speaker by myself). On events the security guys, who are mostly well "trained", couldn't believe how a skinny guy like me could do this kind of job for so many years and still be skinny. It was funny to see them try the things I was doing (especially trying to solo stack those heavy speakers) but in the end they were very cool and had huge respect for me because I might not have the volume of muscle they had but had the strength to do things they struggled with.
Just be careful of your back. If you injure yourself, there’s no going back. It won’t be the same again. Be careful with the barbell and how you carry your weights. People are ungrateful or unaware with how they carry themselves with no injured back and how good it is

Your back is where a ton of your activity stems Your parasympathetic nervous system addresses your vital organs from there. So your kidneys, liver, and endocrine functions live there. Meaning that your ability to metabolize and synthesize proteins stem from how your vertical profile is put together I think we all grew up thinking that biceps are what counts. So long as those are swole, everything will sail. But it's that axis of your spine which induces hormone development. Where the head goes the body will follow. You emphasize all the minutia between your lats and lower back, you can be sure that everything else will be in proper working order. Not to mention a good headspace What I'm getting at is strong arms will attract others, but a strong back will enable you through the extra dimensions of the human experience. Not just how you can be used by the state

Arnold was training for Olympia so his extreme overtraining regimen was necessary to compete and win at the pinnacle of bodybuilding championships. Overtraining is burning the candle at both ends, there will always be consequences but it is a matter of pros and cons. He was not just doing this for personal ego or to look good at the beach. It became part of his identity and career, a huge part. He also amassed hundreds of millions of dollars for all his efforts, a rare success achieved by very few if not any championship bodybuilders.
I once tried Arnold’s pre comp Workout off muscle and strength. It was intense. Honestly it was hard to finish every time. Growing up Arnold was always my number one role model. Commando was such a wicked movie growing up

It's possible. But not optimal. 24-30 sets is OK. 4 exercises x6 sets. 1 warmup, 4 working sets, 1 to unload. 2 heavy movements, 2 shaping/ lighter movements. For years I would superset chest and back. Then do shoulders and legs, then arms and abs. 3 day split, 2 days on, 1 day off. 4.5 days a week, 18 days a month. It all depends on what your goal is. Hypertrophy, density, functional muscular endurance. The weight used and the volume of heavy sets can be manipulated accordingly. Some people train trap on back day also, I think this is fine.

This was how I trained when I was younger. I'm 40 now. I lift 3 or 4 days a week. My entire workout is supersets. 3 or 4 pairs, 5-6 sets. Plus some abs and core stuff Workout usually takes about 55-65 mins. And I do more full body workouts. Not as heavy at all. I also walk about 30 km a week, and cycle about 100km a week. I strive for balance. Everyone is different, with different blood types, base levels of fitness, energy levels, sleep requirements etc. Truthfully, simply doing weight training is dead ass boring. I try and train in a way which keep my heart rate up so I can train not only anaerobically but aerobically at the same time. Being huge and eating drastic amounts of food.. I've been there, it's totally pointless. No female cares.no money gets earned, it's basically a latent narcissistic pursuit with no practical real world benefits.

Gear aside, people forget Arnold was genetically gifted and did this as his job for years. He could recover from it because he ate, slept, lifted and not much else before a contest. You add the PEDs and you get what we saw.
I’d increase that to 100 sets for the traps and an additional 10 sets for the rhomboids and teres major. You should be covered and have no problems doing driver shoulder checks.

Overtraining is common for those who take ‘special’ substances. While you can train like them, your body will require more than your usual supplements. That level of 'overtraining' is specific to those who are using such substances 💉
Overtraining isn't common but happens in endurance sports. It's exceedingly rare to have it caused by hypertrophy training. It's a serious enough condition that causes a serious dip in performance for months, maybe years, maybe permanently. The word gets misused pretty often
And, it cost him 3 open heart surgeries, because of taking 90 mg Dianabol per day for 4 months straight with Sustanon and Masteron, and this and that... and the other 6 months he was totally out of shape... suddenly, I caught up with him at 72, but trained his arm program 1974... still, in my opinion the most beautiful bodybuilder of all times (after Frank Zane) :D

35 sets but pyramid up in wieght so not all the sets were max wieght and intensity, i may do 20 plus sets per workout but only half or 10 are the real work sets
Yes I agree arnold could have done it in less sets but he didn't train like that every week. The closer to compition the more volume he would do, off season he did less volume and was smaller. Arnold was unique and he built himself up into compition like kevin levrone I have seen on videos and interviews and books. If I trained like arnold I would overtrain and get weaker
Using steroids had absolutely nothing to do with mental strength. Maybe even the opposite? Using something so you can train like an animal and not be sore. That's not mental strength. Yes, he was goal oriented. Stamina. Long term mindset. Don't forget the drugs help with your mindset as well. Higher testosterone had shown to even change behaviour and interest of men.
Lat work is so satisfying p with the nice side benefit of making your biceps grow better than curls. Anybody who says medium grip pull up your chin UPS doesn't work your biceps directly never did enough

@@platitudepete8It is stretched most during pullups which is great for growth. Any overhead movement works the serratus to some degree. The best way to grow them is lat pullovers or lat prayers. And any kind of overhead pressing/pulling. Protraction shortens it but this isn't what we want.

Apart from his 3 warm-up sets before the 1 set to failure.
A few sets of rows and lat pulldowns a couple of times a week, close to failure, slowly adding weight over time while not compromising on form is all most people will need to build a decent natural back.
And before Arnolds time they also CLEANS--probably the best back exercise!
That and rows and pull-ups was enough for 99.9%. Arnold and Joe Weider just made it into a Rx circus show,

Gear aside, people forget Arnold was genetically gifted and did this as his job for years. He could recover from it because he ate, slept, lifted and not much else before a contest. You add the PEDs and you get what we saw.
He did also do masonry, which I always appreciated as I did masonry growing up

I do 90 sets for upper traps. Now I cannot shoulder check while driving
I’d increase that to 100 sets for the traps and an additional 10 sets for the rhomboids and teres major. You should be covered and have no problems doing driver shoulder checks.

Overtraining is common for those who take ‘special’ substances. While you can train like them, your body will require more than your usual supplements. That level of 'overtraining' is specific to those who are using such substances 💉

Overtraining isn't common but happens in endurance sports. It's exceedingly rare to have it caused by hypertrophy training. It's a serious enough condition that causes a serious dip in performance for months, maybe years, maybe permanently. The word gets misused pretty often

Ppl train like this, there are even calisthenics channels where they do very high volume daily. We aren’t the same…period.

Yes I agree arnold could have done it in less sets but he didn't train like that every week. The closer to compition the more volume he would do, off season he did less volume and was smaller. Arnold was unique and he built himself up into compition like kevin levrone I have seen on videos and interviews and books. If I trained like arnold I would overtrain and get weaker

Yes, he was goal oriented. Stamina. Long term mindset. Don't forget the drugs help with your mindset as well. Higher testosterone had shown to even change behaviour and interest of men.
Lat work is so satisfying p with the nice side benefit of making your biceps grow better than curls. Anybody who says medium grip pull up your chin UPS doesn't work your biceps directly never did enough
That may work for some people, but most people will benefit more from direct biceps work.

In other words, the direct inverse of the movements trained during pullups

Any overhead movement works the serratus to some degree.
The best way to grow them is lat pullovers or lat prayers. And any kind of overhead pressing/pulling.
Protraction shortens it but this isn't what we want.
