Hahah thanks - and it's exactly these reviews of the fact that people have used them for so long and swear by them that convinced me, but let's see:) They're definitely more comfortable now, though I don't know how they'll hold up on a long walk.
@@eva.evangelou Exactly, they are only a few miles ahead of you in Birkenstocks :) Well, for me it is like that if someone said you have to cover a huge distance, choose a pair of shoes, it would be an old pair of Birkis, there presses and does not rub anything. Recently seen a video of two girls who dragged Birkenstock with them on a long hike to switch to when their hiking boots hurt.
@tochnitm the only problem is that Birkenstock only offers the Gizeh (the style shown in this video) in one color: Faded Aqua. Which isn't my go-to color at all, since pale colors don't look good on my pale-white feet. I did try the soft footbeds in another style a couple years ago but was never really able to break them in, even after repeated wearings. :( Yet for some reason here I am again, considering getting a pair of the Gizehs (which I haven't tried) because my flat feet really need the support to alleviate the severe pronation -- and subsequent ankle and knee pain -- that results when I don't have supportive shoes.

@tochnitm How do you care for your Birkenstock’s that can last you 10 years? Do you have to regularly moisturize with sealant all around the cork? I found that my soft bed ones from only last year that I’ve worn almost every day ( exchanging them with my 3 yrs. old Mayari style ( both of them are that style), the cork has opened by the big toe and heel ( older ones) and now the 1 yr. old ones, I discovered the left heel is cracked😱 I surely hope it wasn’t my fault when I’m trying to stretch my calves with them on and they flexed too much?😬😔
I have bought these sandals a year ago and they are very comfortable. But the post between toes is a killer. Very hard plastic and I simply can't get used to it. So my husband is trying to find a way to cover them to make them soft and comfortable.
Yeap, I've heard lots of people find anything between the toes very uncomfortable. Did you come up with any good ways around this or eventually get used to them?
For me, it took a couple of weeks to notice that mine were breaking in. But I think it takes a solid month for them to get use to your foot. The longer you were them, months, the more comfortable they become. That's just what I've noticed with me and my collection of Birks. I forget that I have them on some days.
@@eva.evangelou if I counted correctly, I have 7 pairs. Two Arizonas(the two strap ones), a rubber clog pair(still comes with the cork insert & are in the professional line), a boot which has the fuzzy lining, a wedge dress shoe, and two "regular" looking shoes. One laces up & the other is kinda like deck shoe. But to answer your other question on which is my favorite. I don't think I can answer that since I genuinely like them all. I bought them all in the hopes of getting rid of mainstream shoes even though I still have some. If you've never worn a pair, I would suggest going with the sandals first and NOT get them from Amazon or Ebay or somewhere like that.
I just bought my first pair og Gizeh blk on blk. I'am 64. The reason is this. I was in Las Vegas and at airport while people (shoe) watching. I noticed at least 60% of women had on these Gizeh Brik's so I broke down and ordered a pair. I'am a big fan of Teva but they were killing my feet. So doing homework on break in time today is day one.
Hi, im in the same boat now, debating whether or not to return them , was searching for an updated video on your channel to see what your thoughts are about it now -- could you provide us with an update? :)
I just bought a pair of Birkenstocks and I thought the same thing. They were torture chambers. I am currently trying to Break them in and I hope they get better soon. I was looking for your final video on breaking them in but couldn’t find it. Did you give up? Did they ever get comfortable? I’d love to know. Thanks for your great video!
Thanks! I’ll be making a follow-up this week to answer all of the questions 😊 please do subscribe and share as it really supports keeping the channel going, and you’ll get notified when the new video is out!
Mine never got comfortable. Bought it in 2005 with my first paycheck. Still, to this day it looks new because you are right they are torture devices. I've had the worst blisters from it.
Glad I found this! Yes, I was similarly snowed into believing that these sandals were going to be comfortable right out the gate, alas they prove to be torturous! My problem is the sturdy thong between the toes that might as well have been composed of razor blades and not plastic. I have been wearing them in the am to walk my dog for the past two weeks and don't foresee me wearing them on adventures anytime soon. I curse Birkenstock and wish I returned them!!
Hi! Long-time Gizeh wearer here… and I might have a solution to your pain. The thing with Gizeh is that your feet need to fit snug on the footbed and your heel needs to stay in the heel cup AT ALL TIMES. If you’re feeling pain after the break in period (a few months of constant wear) the sandals are TOO LOOSE. To correct, unbuckle them, center your foot on them, then tighten the strap on the hole where they feel snug, but not too tight. Your foot should not be moving when you walk… if your foot is sliding forward, the toe part with cause pain! Once the strap is firmly holding your heel in the cup, you should be good… after the break in period!
@@nsq_0000 I want to thank you! I did exactly what you suggested this morning. My right foot, the one giving me the excruciating pain, needed the strap adjusted a little tighter. Voila! No agony with each step! Thanks so much for your advice!!💐
@Amy SAME EXACT PROBLEM. After about 30 minutes of walking, the thong is so excruciating, I can't walk on that foot! Footbed has never been the problem.
I have a pair of Birkenstock, but it hurts my feet and I only wore it 3-4 times. I still need to break it in, but I noticed it’s getting softer and softer over time. I still think Crocs are the most comfortable shoes ever, they are so soft and comfortable to walk anywhere! I travel a lot and crocs never disappoint.
Did you get your normal size in them? I heard you are supposed to go one size up. I managed to thrift a pair of arizonas in eu size 38 (i am a typical eu size 37 in everything else) and they are comfortable, but also feels like it would have been alright in my normal size
Hey, I did get my normal size - eu38, though they definitely didn't feel small at all, I think a size up would have felt too big. Perhaps it depends also on the style but definitely my normal size worked for Gizeh.
Some Birkenstock wearers go one size down rather than up, or buy their normal size. I am a UK 38 and wear the Gizehs and the Arizonas in a 37 and they are perfect for me. As long as your foot is not resting on the outer rim they should conform to your foot and be fine. Once they break in they are comfortable though.
ive been thinking of getting a pair for a while as well and im also a bit worried by the breakin period! would be super helpful if you could do another video after you've worn them a few more times or a vlog video about them while you wear them for a long walk!
I bought my first pair , well two actually, one pair of Gizeh and Arizona At first hey are freaking uncomfortable and resulted in blisters, but It's taken a couple of weeks to break them in and it was worth the pain (agony).
@@eva.evangelou I couldn't decide which ones to get so I bought two pairs. I bought my wife the same pairs and she didn't have any issues with them from new !

Just bought my first Birkenstock today after I swore I would never buy these ugly expensive sandals. Torture to wear them and i was also told you will feel better in one week. lets see how it goes :)
I hear if you wear them wet they will mold to your feet faster and if the arch is to high you can tap them with a hammer but not to hard to mold the arch faster.
funny most people in my family own about 4 pairs of different style and colored Birks, and alll love them, no complaints about blisters. i have 2 pairs, and several other sandals that i rotate since i live in a warm weather area all year round, and enjoy them all, but i have normal arcs and regular feet so maybe it helps that i dont have flat, or wide feet.
You did a great review including your sizing recommendations. You’ll love them soon enough. It takes about a week to two weeks to break them in. They really do grow on you. Don’t go too far even after you’ve initially broken them in. Give it about a month before you spend a full day traveling in them. Your foot needs to adjust to the different fit and movement.
definitely! I'm in colder weather so don't wear them all the time. So far, they're good for a few hours but an entire day walking in hot weather still means blisters...
You are so right! Just bought my first pair and I’m trying to break them in before my vacay in three weeks! I’m gonna be 50 and I can’t wait to see what people are talking about.
@@taramama6658 Three weeks might be cutting it short! Birkenstocks are meant to be broken in slowly and then, once comfortable, last for YEARS… sometimes it takes me a few months of solid wearing to break in a pair… just wanted you to be aware and not be disappointed! But once they are broken in (for me, about three months of daily wear) they become super comfortable since they mold to your feet. I feel like Birkenstock’s recommendation of a few weeks is a little conservative.
Hey I should of watched this vid before the torture. haha. I got a tiny blister on the arch. My feet have a bit of an arch. I got similar Birks. I bought new ones off facebook marketplace for 40 bucks. What a steal.
Hi! I bought a pair of these recently in 38 - it didn’t specify width - but then I saw it said narrow on the box. Are yours narrow fit or regular/unisex? Thanks!
I’ve had mine for a few years and they’re STILL uncomfortable if I wear them for too long. They’re definitely the right size. The soft bed style is way more comfortable but a lot of Birkenstock purists thumb their nose at the softbeds.
I’m on my 3ed pair of Gizeh. I love them. Never had to ‘break them in’, but I have high arches. I’m also German and wearing Birkenstocks since I’m 5! 😂
So, yeah. Big difference between soft foot bed and standard soles day 1. yes, the shoes have to use the sweat and oils of your skin to mold them. I am a boater. You aren't supposed to do this, but I walk in lake water a lot launching or landing a boat a lot. I mow grass and do chores in these Arazona's I have to wear steel toe boots at work. Ive got multiple pairs of difrent styles. But to get out of a work boot and slip on an old broken in pair of Stocks. Its like heaven on your feet. I live in in them. Jeans or shorts. The most worn out pair I have is the most comfortable. And it takes years of abuse to wear a pair out. Give em a chance.
I had a girlfriend who had 6 pairs when I was younger. I tried hers on and wasn’t sold, always though they were hideous. Now that I’m older and having foot pain, they don’t seem like such a bad idea
😂 well, you’ll never know until you give them a try… might be worth it but they’re not initially comfortable. I’m making a follow-up this week, make sure you’re subscribed to get notified!
@@eva.evangelou I bought a pair of Arizonas not long after my comment here. Softbed, tobacco oiled leather. Took about a week to break in, and then I was in love. So cute. I now have another pair of Arizonas, 3 Bostons (one fleece lined) and one Buckley, all original footbed….And I ain’t done!
Whether Birkenstocks are "fashionable" or attractive is truly in the eye of the beholder. I personally think 99% of women's sandals (especially high-heel ones) are god-awful ugly (FUGLY, tbh), but I think Birkenstock Gizehs are BEAUTIFUL. I love them for casual wear and if I needed to ever dress up (rare for me), I'd wear them to a wedding or any other "formal" occasion. I'm recovering from plantar fasciitis caused by incorrect shoes 8 months ago, and I had the crazy idea to go back to Birkenstocks for the zero drop and support. This meant buying a NEW pair, since I stupidly gave away my previous ones. Now, for eight months I could not wear anything other than Crocs -- my foot was too sensitive. So buying a pair of these "torture instruments" made no sense. BUT...immediately my feet felt better. They still require some breaking in, but my feet have not been this happy in almost a year. I bought a pair of my beloved Gizehs as well as a pair of Bostons (wearing the Bostons as I write this), and I am just in seventh heaven. I should mention that I have flexible low arches (almost flat feet) that pronate inward, and the Birks help stabilize that while also supporting my arch/instep, etc. like custom orthotics but in a less rigid way. (Fun fact: Rigid and semi-rigid orthotics do *not* work for those of us who have equinus.) I also have a bunion that doesn't take kindly to the strap across the ball of the foot styles, and to make things even more complicated, I have wide (2E) feet. Birkenstock Gizehs check all the right boxes for my weird female feet. Birkenstocks may not be for everyone, but for me, they're currently my new best friends. p.s. The break-in period is 1-2 weeks, though some people may need a month or more. If your Birks don't seem to be getting more comfortable, you may have the wrong size, which causes the raised areas of the footbed to hit in the wrong spots. (I had a "pedorthist" fit me in size 38EU, which was WAY too small -- he claimed, "I don't fit people according to Birkenstock's recommendations, I size down." Which is flat-out *wrong*! My toes were bumping painfully against the front of the shoe; when I exchanged them for my correct size 39, they fit perfectly.)
Ha ha ha, yes I feel your pain, particularly getting used to the toe area! But hang on in there, it is worth breaking them in by wearing them for an hour or so each day as before you know it you will find yourself wanting to wear them all summer.
On dates, just like girls have the rule that a guy cant be shorter than them, my rule is that the girl must weigh less than me. I only break this rule if she wears birkenstocks. But they must be the gizeh.
I don’t think mine will take that long to break in. I’ve put my foot in and it already fits like a glove. The arch support feels so good on my feet already.
I got mine today it’s also Gizen and I’m disappointed.Thank you for review I’m absolutely agree with your opinion:they are not soft but so tough 😢.And yes -they are ugly.😡.
Admitedly, I've never had an eye for fashion... BUT, I've never understood people who say birkenstock's are ugly. Crocs I can understand. Yeezys I can DEFINITELY understand. But birkenstocks? They just look like regular sandals!
You must have very sensitive feet. Perhaps you should have taken the soft footbed? I have both and find both comfortable. And can walk hours and hours 🤷♀️.
@@eva.evangelou Chanel dad shoes have been the most popular thing for like 3 years now. He should try them… Birkenstocks are very supportive for the foot.
I’ve got about 10 pairs of Birkenstocks and love them to bits. Yes certain models of Birkenstocks can take a bit of breaking in and the Gizeh ones your wearing is one of them. I introduced my partner last year to Birkenstocks and the Arizona ones she loves but then she brought the Madrid ones and there never off her feet now.
I have several pairs too. I have a pair of lace up boats that I gotta break in this fall. I can't wait but I've never broken in a pair of the boots so I'm kinda worried.
@@eva.evangelou my partner Stacey had the Birkenstock boots that I got her last Christmas. She had the Birkenstock Ebba boots and loves them. She said they broke in very very quickly. Hope this helps
I've had the Mayaris in regular width for a couple of years and they took aaages to break in, like over 3 weeks, but they're comfortable now. Then last year I bought the Arizona in narrow and they took next to no time to break in. I think different widths can affect the break in period - perhaps the narrower ones are faster to soften because there's less room around the foot? Who knows lol.
I just bought the Maharishi and so glad I read your comment. They are torturous to walk in for any length of time. I’ll keep trying though because of your comment. And they’re cute.
I used to hate seeing females with flip flops or anything open toe when I was a young boy 😂😂. Now I actually like it seeing a lady wearing them anytime. Try Arizona, Madrid style. Even the Mayari look elegant. BTW nice dress and I'll definitely go on a date when a lady wear sandals
If you have ANY sort of back or joint pain these are NOT for you. They are hard as a rock which just adds to joint pain. They do mold to your feet and that is nice but, they are way, way too hard in the footbed.
@@eva.evangelou These support your posture very well but, they are hard on the joints. If you have arthritis or other joint/spine injury these are not good, they have no cushioning. It's akin to standing on a hard floor all day. Bad joints need something that absorbs impact. So these aren't it. However, if you do not have issues with your joints then these are great for your posture.
They’re not really comfort sandals. If you want comfort sandals get the uglier Crocs or the ugliest of all Yeezy. Oofos are also comfortable. overtime, Birkenstocks get comfortable, but definitely not fit for 10,000 steps walking. You have to be realistic, they aren’t rubber shoes or trainers. Likewise, they aren’t dancing shoes either. They are meant for normal walking activities and not for special purposes. If they still hurt after sometime then the size is the problem. Any footwear will hurt in the long run if the size isn’t right for you.

I love them they are pretty and comfortable I have 2 like these
Excellent! Are you getting a lot of wear out of them? Subscribe if you haven't yet as I have an update coming soon!
For me, it took a couple of weeks to notice that mine were breaking in. But I think it takes a solid month for them to get use to your foot. The longer you were them, months, the more comfortable they become. That's just what I've noticed with me and my collection of Birks. I forget that I have them on some days.
Definitely! How many have you bought so far and any favourite models?
@@katiebradley7780 I have the Gizeh ones but maybe this has opened up a whole new world 😏
@@eva.evangelou To maybe help convert you, you are able to get them resoled.

Mine never got comfortable. Bought it in 2005 with my first paycheck. Still, to this day it looks new because you are right they are torture devices. I've had the worst blisters from it.
Noo :O So sorry to hear that! No one size fits all I guess!
😅
@@PinkyTuscadero666 Great to hear!
@Amy SAME EXACT PROBLEM. After about 30 minutes of walking, the thong is so excruciating, I can't walk on that foot! Footbed has never been the problem.
I just got my first set, bout 4 days in and they are stiff as a board and the arches feel way too high. Hopefully they break in...
Fingers crossed for you! Coz they did end up very practical in the end - how are you getting on?
@@eva.evangelou the arch of the left foot still feels a bit too high, although the other sandal doesn’t give me trouble, I *think* it’s improving?
@@eva.evangelou It took a while, but they're doing quite well now. The arch pain is pretty much gone. Just wish I sized down a bit.
Birkenstock is better than crocs
Crocs are the ugliest shoe in the world...but so comfy!! I'm currently breaking in my new Birkenstocks, 2nd ugliest shoe in the world lol
Haha well definitely, I'm choosing comfort over style most days. But that's why it feels super good to pop out the nice sandles/heels!
Yes they are comfortable if you find the right style also sketchers are amazing too
I love wearing them!, yes break in is harsh, but they make it up with you!
@@jenmb. Ok do you have skinny feet im a 7.5 with slimm feet will 37 work for me?
ive been thinking of getting a pair for a while as well and im also a bit worried by the breakin period! would be super helpful if you could do another video after you've worn them a few more times or a vlog video about them while you wear them for a long walk!
Hey good idea - definitely can:) I can say they're certainly more comfortable now.
@@eva.evangelou thanks!! would love to see a follow up vide when you have a chance!
I bought my first pair , well two actually, one pair of Gizeh and Arizona
At first hey are freaking uncomfortable and resulted in blisters, but It's taken a couple of weeks to break them in and it was worth the pain (agony).
So sorry for the agony - and you really went all in getting two of them!

Best 10 second dance break so far ! You should get into acting
Hahahah thanks Mariya! I enjoyed making this one a lot:P
funny most people in my family own about 4 pairs of different style and colored Birks, and alll love them, no complaints about blisters. i have 2 pairs, and several other sandals that i rotate since i live in a warm weather area all year round, and enjoy them all, but i have normal arcs and regular feet so maybe it helps that i dont have flat, or wide feet.
Are you saying my feet are flat and wide? hahaha :P
@@eva.evangelou haha not yours but i have heard others complain about their flat feet.
What happens when you wear different sandals throughout the summer though? I guess it’s hard to go to anything else once you’ve broken in!
After months of trying to break mine in, and the soles continued to feel like rocks under my feet, I use them as door stops.
Hey I should of watched this vid before the torture. haha. I got a tiny blister on the arch. My feet have a bit of an arch. I got similar Birks. I bought new ones off facebook marketplace for 40 bucks. What a steal.
They are very comfortable once they’re broken into 😂😂 you’re funny
Hi! I bought a pair of these recently in 38 - it didn’t specify width - but then I saw it said narrow on the box. Are yours narrow fit or regular/unisex? Thanks!
hey, just the regular one!
@@eva.evangelou thank you! :)
I’ve had mine for a few years and they’re STILL uncomfortable if I wear them for too long. They’re definitely the right size. The soft bed style is way more comfortable but a lot of Birkenstock purists thumb their nose at the softbeds.
We welcome a bit of mixing 😂 sounds like they’re not the right fit for you, I have got used to them after a long while
I’m on my 3ed pair of Gizeh. I love them. Never had to ‘break them in’, but I have high arches. I’m also German and wearing Birkenstocks since I’m 5! 😂
You like Birkenstock too?
I have a high arch too. My feet actually felt supported.
They start you early in Germany! 😂
The one you are demonstrating is one of the hardest to adapt to. Cause the thong between your toes is plastic and so hard to break in
You should try the soft footbed Birkenstocks. Those are a lot easier to break in.
Good to know I'll definitely keep it in mind - though I don't know if I'll be buying more right now!
Girl we need an update!
Coming this week! Please subscribe to be notified :) How did you get on with these?
It’s like you’re psychic 😛
On dates, just like girls have the rule that a guy cant be shorter than them, my rule is that the girl must weigh less than me. I only break this rule if she wears birkenstocks. But they must be the gizeh.
Lol, something for everyone :)
I don’t think mine will take that long to break in. I’ve put my foot in and it already fits like a glove. The arch support feels so good on my feet already.
So glad you find them comfy!
I got mine today it’s also Gizen and I’m disappointed.Thank you for review I’m absolutely agree with your opinion:they are not soft but so tough 😢.And yes -they are ugly.😡.
The one between your toes, ouch 🤕😳
I know - you do get used to it! Have you broken them in?
Admitedly, I've never had an eye for fashion... BUT, I've never understood people who say birkenstock's are ugly.
Crocs I can understand. Yeezys I can DEFINITELY understand. But birkenstocks? They just look like regular sandals!
😂 I am glad you like them - good for your feet too, so you’ll get the best of both worlds!
You must have very sensitive feet.
Perhaps you should have taken the soft footbed? I have both and find both comfortable. And can walk hours and hours 🤷♀️.

And it's different for different people too as I've seen from all of these comments!
Have you broken them in by now?
I used to hate seeing females with flip flops or anything open toe when I was a young boy 😂😂. Now I actually like it seeing a lady wearing them anytime. Try Arizona, Madrid style. Even the Mayari look elegant. BTW nice dress and I'll definitely go on a date when a lady wear sandals
Very informa
I broke mine in wearing socks at first and now I wear without socks.
Makes sense
If you have ANY sort of back or joint pain these are NOT for you. They are hard as a rock which just adds to joint pain. They do mold to your feet and that is nice but, they are way, way too hard in the footbed.
Really? I thought that would be good in the same way a harder mattress is better..
I recommend Mephisto if you have spine or joint issues. SAME cork footbed, same designs but, added padding for cushioning.
I love mine but I brought mine from eBay some what used I have both pairs
Awesome! I guess they're an acquired taste :) They do sort of go with everything and are an easy choice!

My first observation is "WHERE ARE YOUR PERSONAL BROKEN IN SANDALS"? Why demonstrate a brand new pair and the box taking time to talk about "The other types of sandals for sale that are advertised on the box (Sounds a bit SALESY and MARKETING) rather than a consumer.
