Six years after retirement, the Statler Brothers sang one final time at their induction to the Country Music Hall of Fame (Summer 2008). Excuse the poor video quality.
The Statler Brothers were sooo generous to their hometown Staunton Virginia. I still love to listen to their music. It brings back fond memories of the Happy Birthday USA 4th of July events. Oh how crowded Staunton would be. Back then I was too “young and dumb” to realize and appreciate how special it (and The Statlers) was/were. And now…we have the next generation with Wilson Fairchild performing many of the songs that their Dad’s entertained us with over the years. Thank you Harold, Lou, Phil and Don and Jimmy.
Who did not know that the Statler Brother's TV show was THE NO.#1 program all 6 or 7 years they were on???? Ending on a high note! How many shows do you know that had THAT same ethics and integrity to stay on top the whole time??? They knew when to quit when they were at their BEST!!!
Now that Harold is gone, it's over for sure for the Statler brothers. I never had the pleasure of seeing them live in concert, but they will live on for many, many, years as the best gospel and country band that ever graced a stage anywhere. RIP Mr. Reid. You were one of the best my friend, and you'll be sorely missed by all!
Joe Murray I saw them many times live in concert. It was a rare treat. Those God-loving men and their witness to their audience was wonderful. They had a comedy skit, thanks to Harold.
@@juliew1966 I'm sure seeing them live was a treat for you, and some nice memories as well. I never got the opportunity to see the Statler brothers preform live, because I lived in a small town in Kansas, back in the mid 70'S, and they were always hundreds of miles away from me!
All I can say is it's a good thing I wasn't in the audience or I'd have bawled like a big baby and embarrassed the kids. Heck, I teared up watching the video. The memories this "event" invokes from me are overwhelming. As the great George Younce once said, "and there ain't nobody come along like these boys".
Oh, God bless you dear men. You have brought so many years of joy to us. Now that my dear mama is getting ready to pass, I will be getting her your music to listen to, while she lies in her bed. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
Theee Best... Voices... music... entertainers... dressers... Theee classiest, all the way around. As they say: "They broke the mold when they made these guys" - and there'll never be another group like them.
I agree. They were the best. I've loved their music since the early 1970's when I was very young. I saw them live 3 times in the 1980's at the Indiana State Fair. Best live concerts that I ever saw!
Ya know....I've been a hard rockin' metal head all my life and, as a general rule, cannot stand country music. But, I could listen to these boys sing this song for eternity. I absolutely love this song.
The Statler Brothers are THE ALL-TIME GREAT group in country music!!!! I miss them so much! Jimmy Fortune's gone solo since they retired as a group, and he's wonderful as a solo artist!
One of the finest groups to ever grace the stage! The Statlers and The Oak Ridge Boys wrote the book when it comes to gospel/country music harmony groups. Thanks for this final look look at these country legends.
My wife and I were privileged to be at the Statler Brothers final concert, and even more privileged they chose to hold it in my hometown of Salem, Virginia. One of their guests was Jimmy Dean, clearly not in good health at that time. I suppose that may have been his last concert, too. But as big as he was, at one time anyway, the Statlers ruled that night. What a triumph they had for their last appearance.
God Bless them all! Jimmy's grin is so cute. He looks like a kid locked in a candy store all night.Im betting he is cherishing those moments when he gets to sing with his heroes one more time as much as he will cherish that award.
Such a shame that they retired, but can't blame them for being tired of living on that bus out of a suitcase. Anybody can get tired of that. But so great to hear them again.
Oh How I Love The Statler Brothers!! This video brings back all the great memories. I could listen to them sing all day long. Also love seeing Jimmy Fortune still performing, Hoping to attend another concert soon.
I will turn 74 exactly one week before this Christmas, and it seems everyday another part of my past dies, actors, singers, sports stars, etc. etc. The Everly Brothers are both gone, as are Seals and Croft, the Temptations, the Supremes and the Four Tops are now down to one original member each, I could go on, and on. It has been 3 years since Harold Reid of the Statler brothers passed on and an unbelievable 33 years since Lew Dewitt passed on, leaving only Phil and Don of the original four, Jimmy replaced Lew in 1982. Of the touring group Johnny Cash put together, consisting of the Stater brothers, Maybelle Carter and her 3 daughters ( including Johnny's wife June), Carl Perkins and Tennessee Three, all are gone except Phil and Don. Many of us old timers, will tell you pain and illness are the hardest part of growing old, but for me it is all the loss, and when someone as funny and talented as Harold Reid passes damn that is damn near impossible to handle. Thankfully there are his records, and his videos to help us get through the tough days. God bless you Mr. Reid and your family, both the real one, and your stage one. Thanks for laughs and music.
I love them too and have missed them so much. It was good to come here and hear them singing again. God bless them. the music we hear on the radio now is junk. I can only listen to it a very little while and have to turn it off. The 'Statlers had their own tv show for awhile and I don't think I ever missed a show.
I love the Statler brothers and Harold and Donald Reid's sons who also sing as the group Wilson Fairchild. If you want to hear some good music just take a listen to Wilson Fairchild.
This gave me goosebumps and I could listen to these guys all day long. I can't think of any other country act that comes even close to them. They are the greatest!!! And the Country Music Hall of Fame waited waaaay too long to induct them.
They still sound great. Abravefan, you are right when you say there will never be another group like the Statlers. They gave us many years of enjoyment. It's great that we can see and hear them on You Tube.
And now Harold and Don's sons Wil and Langdon takes on there legacy they both look and sound like there dads too..love there singing... The groups name is Wilson Fairchild..
I love how Jimmy gave it to the "older" Statlers. I attended their last tour because my sister gave me an awesome birthday gift of tickets to their concert!!! Life is great!
I love many types of music from country, to rock and roll, some heavy metal to blue grass. Even a little old soul. But these guys are with out a doubt My favorite group of all time. It’s a shame that time catches up to us all and we will never again hear them all together live. Rip in Harold and of course Lou.
The GREATEST GROUP to ever grace the stage of country music. No others even come close. Thank You Harold, Lew, Phil, Don and Jimmy. You were "The Statler Brothers" and will remain so throughout history. God Bless.
I have to agree with you guys on here. The Statlers were the best singing group ever and that is why they are the most awarded group in history. Miss seeing their concerts. Love to the guys.
One of the best singers of music. Regular or Gospel. I have the CD and DVD of their Gospel special and I enjoy them. No on can match the fun they had. I also have several records. Great old music.

Thank you sooo much for posting this. I grew up listening to them, therefore my daughter grew up listening to them. Now she is about to have a baby girl...and you better believe I will still be playing my Statler Brother records...yep, records!

I don't care if it had been six years since they sang together, they sounded great. I wish that they were still performing together. I miss true country music.
I consider myself to be one extremely fortunate person, as I got to see the Statlers in concert four times. The last was part of their 'farewell' tour. NOBODY will ever come close to the talent these five (including Lew DeWitt) had.
I seen them 13 times over the years, once in there home town of Staunton virgins 1977 gypsy rose park! Little Jimmy Dickinson opened and Charlie McCoy was there also!!!

I saw them in concert twice in the 70’s and 80’s they were wonderful. I miss them so much and still listen to them everyday.
The Statler Brothers will always have better music than Gayle (singer of the dumbest hit I have heard in 25 years, ABCDEFU) will ever have.
We have lost one of the greatest bass singers in my childhood. :(
I would say of all time.
RIP Harold Reid.
