Great idea. I have a Halfords Ebike and though it's great I'm a big guy it's only 250w has no throttle and only 8.8ah battery for a 15km daily work commute. A suitable stealthy upgrade for my Carrera Vengeance is just what I'm looking for in 2023
There is a mob in america called Calibike they sell 1500w and 2500w small geared motors ,just the cost of frieght to Aus is ridiculas but maybe 4u it might be cheaper ,Happy New Year ...sketch

pro bikers average around 200- 250 watts , 300+ peaks ,so yup ! in my youth i could easily reach 30 mph downhill :)
to be 100% discreet, is to have controller and battery on a rear pannier rack in a pannier bag ,but all that weight in the back youre gonna pop wheelies very easily :)

Anyone else wish you had him as a father????? Coming from someone who grew up without a father it's so lovely seeing a dad sharing his passion with his son! That's a lucky boy! I used to dream of having an ebike when I was a boy!!! Kids today have no idea how luckily they are!!!

Love the karenator theme! Embracing the same idea on my Trek marlin soon. Similar spec at 350w. A good entry into ebike builds 👍
I run a 250w rear hub with 48v 15ah battery and 35A controller. I just limit it to 500w when pedalling or lower if I want to exercise more. I can feather 1200w through it when occasionally needed. Usually in up to 20 second bursts. Motor only gets a bit warm….then again it’s winter. To be honest after 25mph the air resistance reduces battery, more wear on the bike and less safe to ride with marginal gain in time. On single track even less top speed needed really….
I like that build and I like the bike a lot tell your son not to let his mates on the bike the reason his friends haven't got an e-bike is that they're expensive so he should take care of it my son is the same I gave him an e-scooter the throttle broke the same day bless him that's wot kids do,
