Here's a quick tip on how I prepare my race bodies after painting to seal the paint and protect it from scratches and how I reinforce the body to prevent cracking.
holy shit. you ever weigh a body before and after all this? my 1/10th scale buggy body weighs 30 grams (painted). this seems like you would be adding at least 100 grams to the body. not only are you adding weight but its extra weight in the worst possible area.
Theres 100 grams of mud on the car 20 seconds into the race. So thats not a concern. What is a concern, is that my expensive body lasts for more than 2-3 months.
You have to do a thin light coat first after the body paint dries and cures. Let the light coat of Flex Seal dry. Then add a heavier coat. A heavy coat right off the bat will eat the paint every time
What would you charge me to reinforce a Brand New Fox Racing Traxxas Slash Body? I bought it for my 13yr son for his birthday but he is new and I have not left him use it yet.
It wouldn't be worth the money to ship a $30 body back and forth twice and pay me labor to do it. You'd have $100 of money dumped into a $30 stock body. Just follow my videos instructions and do it yourself .
In this video I'm talking about bodies on racers cars who they hire painters to paint professional schemes and want to keep their expensive bodies in decent shape to last thru a race season. For a teenager who is learning to drive outside in the neighborhood, his first body won't last a month unfortunately. It takes many years to master non crashing unfortunately (especially for racers)
I wish I would have found this video like, 2 weeks ago, it just popped up in my recommendations, I just finished my rocket Bunny and I ended up doing nobody post. And I used shoegoo. The shoegoo kind of pulled the paint off the lexan body slightly, not much, but it's noticeable.😥😩
Thats why after letting the paint cure overnight, I recommend doing a VERY light coat of clear Flex Seal. Then after letting that dry for a while, hit it with a 2nd coat of heavier Flex Seal. This barrier will protect the paint from the Shoe Goo or E6000. After the Flex Seal dries completey you can further reinforce stress points with Dry Wall tape and Shoe Goo.
How do you think flex seal would work using it as the main color for the inside of the body? Looking to paint a basic black body in the future and was just gonna use black flex seal. Or maybe some kind of bedliner.
I use thin strips of electrical tape to help draw the design on the exterior. And use 4 coats of liquid mask on the inside. But you can use electrical tape to mask, it works better than masking tape
My current Un protected body last like 4 years… untill today my stampede was run over by a car so I’m painting a new body lol… ig if I protect it it’ll last a life time😂
@@wheels.and.wrenches lol…. You don’t understand…. I’ve beeten the shit out of my truck and I still use the body… even after being run over by a van 😂…. I do massive jumps too lol To be fair it is very mangeled looking by now
I've been reinforcing my basher bodies for years with flex seal or bed liner in a can. Racers seem to think it adds too much weight. That pink and teal pops btw!
@@wheels.and.wrenches I'm an amateur and I do feel the difference...but I've been racing since 1989...hehe...not pro but very well seasoned racer. Great channel btw!
Although great for protecting your body these are highly developed race machines. All that added weight up top isn't cool. Or you can have that professionally painted body as a shelf display and have a beater body for actually racing. You can even order thin lexan shells on some cars for weight. It's a race car not a show car... Great video and channel though!
You have to obviously have a professional appearance when racing because you're representing your sponsors at the race track. So having a perfect body and sponsor stickers is part of that. So you definitely cannot have a beater body for racing.
@@wheels.and.wrenches right agreed...but at club level beater would be fine but I do know top drivers have nice bodies but many go with thin lean and one color even. Great channel!
I use plasti dip. No need to use shoe goo and drywall tape at all.
not a bad video but I could not see much because camera position sucks
Any tutorials on how to paint RC bodies

I tried the gorilla glue version of flex seal and the solvents ate the paint I dont want to spray on my new paint job now.

Thanks for the tips, that scheme is fiyah
WOW....Who's the painter of those bodies? Beautiful work for sure !!!!
I painted them

@@wheels.and.wrenches thank you for the quick reply, very helpful, I have a second body that I'm about to do may try your method.👍🏻🔥😷🔥👌🏻

I would black lexan paint.
Can you easily pull off the window masks after applying the flex seal?
Yeah
Is that the body that use electrical tape for masking? Beautiful lines

@@wheels.and.wrenches yes i've tried this, it's definitly better than masking tape, never knew this before, thanks for sharing
Will the flex seal protect against fuel eating up the paint if it drips?
I have no idea. Try it and see
Would a thin coat and then a heavier coat of flex seal clear by itself be enough to keep dirt from getting underneath and ruining my paintjob?
Paint jobs are gonna get beat up regardless eventually. But it'll help

When you race offroad on an outdoor track with 40-50 foot doubles. Bodies last about 4-6 months depending on how little you crash.

Weight may be a concern for a 1/10 scale stock buggy. For a 4wd SCT or 1/8 scale... you'll never notice it at an amateur level.
