    I love that when he first rejected, you rewarded him and told him it's okay, and to just try again and figure it out. That's true horsemanship right there. You are such an inspiration, Ten loves you!

    I already commented this on tiktok but im still so impressed by your composure through such a difficult exercise, that's how you build confidence in a horse!! also glad you mentioned how hard you had to work on xc, i watched that helmet cam and my first thought was WHEW you had to ride the *heck* out of that!! thanks for sharing!

      @KandtheBays  Рік тому +6

      Aww thank you!! :) Yes! He definitely uses me to conserve his energy by balancing on me. That was the main reason I wanted to work on a grid like this because he doesn't have the chance to! I was dying on XC because of how much he was using the hackamore to balance himself. He's in such great shape he doesn't need to do that, but Ten is way too smart for his own good LOL

    I really really don’t mean to be rude because we’re all learning and growing equestrians but I feel like it would help you if you gave yourself more time to approach the fence and had a better Cantor with more impulsion but I also don’t know this horse at all 💖

    • @KandtheBays
      @KandtheBays  Рік тому +64

      It's ok! Just keep in mind watching a gopro video can be difficult to perceive whats actually going on because of the angle its shot at. Coming into a bounce you don't want to have too much canter coming in otherwise they can't rock back on their hind end. Thats why the beginning bounces are more round and rhythmic and the last bounces after the oxers seem rushed. I really wanted him to start getting some elasticity in his gait and over fences. This was a VERY hard exercise for him, but he did fantastic!

    Man you sound like me when I ride! Do people comment on how much you talk to your horses??
    I think they like to know when they do well. My mare will let out a nicker of triumph when I laugh after a tough exercise. It's so cute but it proves they really do have emotions like us.
    Plus I am a dog trainer and I believe there's no such thing as too much communication!

    does he wear a hackamore because he is sensitive in the mouth? I ride a OTTB for my trainer but if you touch the bit to much he loses it. so I was wondering if maybe a hackamore would work better. thanks

    • @Z4LA_787
      @Z4LA_787 Рік тому +1

      Yes jumping is very tiring because you have your Focus on the jump but you also have to focus on the approach to the jump and your position

    • @EmmaEq2
      @EmmaEq2 2 години тому

      It is very tiring! You have to use so much leg, and you have to have so much connection with the horse. You have to two-point at the correct time, because if you two-point too early, the horse loses its balance, if you two-point too late, you get launched. It requires a lot of thinking! I jumped today, and I was panting at the end of it, lol

    In my opinion, making your horse walk up to a jump and making them stop is just teaching them to refuse the jump.

    • @qwurp3430
      @qwurp3430 Рік тому +3

      No, its letting them see the jump from up close so they know what’s coming up and won’t be scared of it. I think it even prevents refusals most of the time. It’s a really friendly way to let a horse get used to (new) jumps.

    • @reira5347
      @reira5347 7 місяців тому

      I’m with you, in my opinion, (not offend anyone) she’s just teaching that horse how not to jump by rewarding him every time that he refuses, he refuses as a little kid, she doesn’t even try to make him jump, whenever the horse wants, he can just refuse and let the rider fall in the obstacle

    • @BlackJack.Hope_EQ
      @BlackJack.Hope_EQ 5 місяців тому +1

      Not at all, do you walk to jumps then jump it? No right? Horses are smarter than that they know you are showing them the jump, not rewarding them for “refusing”

    • @2.Vinnie
      @2.Vinnie 4 місяці тому

      nope

      @@BlackJack.Hope_EQher doing the 3 bounces in the beginning then turning left before the next jump is awful, when she’s expecting him to jump it the next time around. Walking up to fences letting a horse see them is fine. But turning away right before a fence in a grid, then jumping it next is just wrong. No good trainer would have someone do that.
