This was an ENORMOUS accomplishment. I watched the LiveStream. Only 22 completed the course. 18 retired or were eliminated. And these were some of the the best horse/rider combinations in the world. P.S. The commentators during the dressage thought Lee was scored a point or two low.

I was jump judging fence 4AB. So proud of how you and Lee handled the truly adverse conditions. You made absolutely the right decision to stop Riot at fence 4A after he hooked his front leg over one of the logs and refused two attempts. I don’t know if he misread it, slipped, or what happened initially, but we had several bad falls at 4B, and if you did not get a good jump in at 4A, you would’ve definitely had trouble at 4B and possibly would have gotten hurt. Several riders fell hard at 4B. So, from my perspective, it was an excellent decision to withdraw Riot at that point and try again another day before his confidence was shattered and possibly your leg!
In all my years of jump judging at various three-day events and horse trials, I think these weather conditions were either the worst or tied with Rolex 2015 for the worst I have ever seen.
By the end of the day, the volunteers were soaked to the skin and shivering with cold, which is nothing compared to what you must have felt. I have the upmost respect for you for performing under these conditions and doing it well.

One piece of advice I have been given for xc is that if your horse is unsure or not 100% about a certain jump instead of pushing them too it and "bullying" them to it, it's better to hold them back and be a "passenger" for a second whilst they figure it out and then take them over. I find it really works as sometimes they just need a second to sit back and look at it and they realise that 'oh it's not that bad' and go over it willingly instead of us using a lot of leg and pushing them over it. It may not work for all, but I've seen a lot of improvement xxxx
Both of them did so well as well, it was a shame that he had the little slip but you're both incredible 💖

Amazing ride - thanks for bringing me along ;)
Some of those jumps/obstacles are downright evil though .... I can get scared just by watching you jump them ...
What I'm trying to say ... I have very deep respect for you to have the courage to jump that kind of fences/jumps/obstacles.

Brings back memories of how in shape you must be to do eventing & I was lower levels. My doctor as a kid laughed at me when I said I rode horses for exercise. Shows how much he didn't know! Great job on not being crazy out of breath! I always struggled breathing cross country & learned at 48 that I have a vocal cord disorder-not opening every time to allow me to breathe properly! Explains why I got so winded. Lol. But amazing job on you! I quit going to Rolex in the mid 90s after too many spills & too many helicopters coming in to help hurt people. Too much stress on my nerves. Amazing bravery you all. I'm not sure you all get the credit you deserve! Just amazing athletes! Take care, thanks.

He's awesome, and you guys make a great team!!! He slid into that one fence, but he turned right around and did it. He did so good given how treacherous the footing was, and how difficult the course was. I'm really looking forward to seeing everything you guys do in future!!

Fantastic to see the course from a riders view, shame about the stop but in the grand scheme of things a pretty good result. PS I can't believe you went round without gloves, recommend Sealz for grip in wet weather. Hope the trot up is good and hugs and kisses to Riot, hope his confidence isn't too badly shaken. Good luck today

An incredible display of talent, grit and horsemanship today following your fabulous dressage performances. I don't think you could have had worse circumstances to jump around that brutal track, and the confidence you placed in Lee shined through. I was cheering you on as loudly as I could from home when he tackled that first left corner like an absolute professional. It was equally awesome to see your honesty with one another through the blip at the A element. For Rye, what a shame after such a competitive test. The bluegrass topsoil get so loose and slick with so much moisture -- let alone when it's already been chewed up by so many other horses. I thought it was very honorable to retire when you did. Rye would have most definitely made that course his b*tch under any other circumstances ; ) Great riding, and good luck heading into the show jump tomorrow. Know you have all of us girls down the road on the Uni of KY equestrian team cheering you on every step of the way.
