Congratulations, it looks great! Although the art work looks lovely, I love the idea of using a decorative platter behind the stove. You could even change it out seasonally or just for Christmas. I do the same behind my kitchen sink. It does not have a window behind it, so I just rest a cute rectangle melamine tray against the wall behind it. It is cute and protects against water damage.

Nice updates! I used appliance paint to paint my white refrigerator black until I replaced it. I slowly did the stainless and black for the dishwasher and the stove too until my 25 year old refrigerator gives it up it will stay black.
Your kitchen looks so beautiful. The island looks so bright. But I have to say I miss the green island. I agree with someone that said it looked like furniture. And now it just another cabinet. But it is lovely with that pretty hardware. Your new stove is great. I love my ceramic top. But it was hard to get use to, with my pans spinning and sliding. Lol But oh wow is it easy to clean. I love the leathered granite in your kitchen! Great job! I miss your dark green island as well but understand wanting to tie in the cabinet color. (you can always paint it green again at some point if the stains and marks get to be too much with 4 kiddos and daily life). You deserve a beautiful kitchen - daily cooking from scratch in a space you love - yes, it is perfect for you. Every inch of your home is intentional and I love that about you and watching your vlogs/videos. Take care Hilary!

My opinions: I didn't even notice the range hood at all... I think it matches the other appliances, and I'd leave it as is. A "box" around it could be awkward. Good choice to keep the sink! I really like hearing you walk thru the process of how and why you decide things. I love that about your channel. I LOVE your island painted white! If you want some green, maybe paint the wall behind the island chairs - as an accent wall? Love the practicality of the platter idea for over the stove-top, for sure! You have such good taste, I'm sure whatever you decide will be lovely.
Hillary, your updated kitchen is beautiful!! I too liked your green island but now think the white looks perfect…your kitchen is just lovely…I know you will enjoy it for years to come. Up until this school year began, I watched my little granddaughter…I would give her a cloth to wipe down my cabinets and she had a ball making any spot disappear…you could do something similar with one of you little ones…just a thought. May many treasured moments and wonderful blessings abound in your lovely kitchen!!

@@elainewhitlock6338 I had back surgery and I had my grandson clean my bottom cabinets. He did pretty good. He likes to clean when he wants to buy sometimes he doesn't. I to love the island painted cream. It really ties everything together. It's lovely. Have a great day.

Love the counters! Regarding the vent hood, I would look at replacing it first. Even if you plan to cover it anyway. The older ones have a much larger profile. By the time you clad it with wood it will seriously stick out from the cabinets. You will also be covering the fan and light switches if you clad the current one as is.
I would get silicon strips to go between the stove and counter. I got them off Amazon and it is so nice to not have crumbs and what not fall in that little space! Love the new countertop!
I really loved the green island but you have done an amazing job with your kitchen. Love your sink, love the new stove and love that little tray that holds your french press. You have great taste. Love your content. God bless you and your family❤️
The kitchen looks great you guys did an awesome job. I like your idea for a cover over the hood - I'm sure you guys can do it you're very handy. I also like your idea of maybe someday stripping the wood on the island and keeping it natural. That would give it a French farmhouse look. Whatever you decide it will look nice you have good taste.
how is the leathered granite to wipe clean? It looks textured and I’m sure it must be easy to clean or you would not have chosen it. I’ve just never seen that before. Your home is always so lovely❤

It’s beautiful! Love the idea of a platter. I have a plate wall and it’s one of my favorite areas with all of the different antique plates hung. Also much easier to keep clean, being behind the stove. The hardware is so beautiful as well!

I liked the old countertops(they're much better than my builder grade fake), but the new look is nice!
Its beautiful!!! We have those identical black pearl granite countertops, I love them but a tip...be careful with pots and pans, we've chipped ours around the sink (our sink is not overlapped like yours). Watch the edges. And the seams from the installer are not the best, not sure if the leathered texture made that difficult, they had to come back to tweak thrm. Other than that I love them, and the look beautiful in my kitchen.
I'll bet Hilary is really glad she kept the overlap sink after hearing your tip!

Just take the artwork off the wall every time you cook, I have a peice of art above my stove, this is what I do to stop it from getting g greasy, your kitchen looks lovely as always❤

Your kitchen makeover looks lovely! Everything about your kitchen has always been beautiful and functional! I have to say I miss the rich look of the butcher block counters and the hunter green island... but the fresh new look along with the durable countertop really go well with the new stove and everything else ❤ Very interested to see what you have planned for the range as we're looking to conceal ours too 😊
The counters are beautiful! Love the black stove! I like the island much better painted cream. The look of the kitchen flows better, given that the size and shape of the kitchen make the island seem more like a bank of cabinets (almost like a U-shaped floor plan rather than an island). I like that the sink, dishwasher and fridge remain white, setting the stove off; the white blends with the cabinetry. And the look of that porcelain sink is perfect and appropriate for your kitchen’s style, especially with the faucet. Charming cottage look. The picture looks great over the stove but if it gets too grease splattered, a platter is a good option too. I have a platter and two mismatched saucers behind my cooktop, they lean up against the backsplash. You could try hanging the picture behind your canisters for a casual layered look. You’d hang it a few inches higher than the height it’s at now. I like the gold in that frame being repeated and carried to that side of the kitchen, picking up the brass faucet and the other two framed pieces on the sink wall. A small gold gilt frame would look nice by the French press as well.
It looks great! You all did a great job 👏. The backsplash is actually just wooden paneling? WOW did you paint and do a treatment to protect it?

I just wanted to express how amazing the kitchen looks. It’s truly commendable that you took the time to choose the perfect granite countertops that both you and Dan love. It took me 20 years to select mine, so it’s important to take your time; turning a house into a home is a journey.
The white paint on the kitchen island really enhances the space, making it feel larger, even though I understand the appeal of the green for its practicality in hiding scuff marks. I'm also glad you decided to keep the sink; I prefer a single large sink over a divided one. Some things just work better with an older, timeless style.

Love it, like you I loved the green island but the white does tie in with the cabinets and looks equally as nice. Stove is awesome. I would so surround the exhaust fan; it will look custom then. You have such good taste. Peace!

I love what you’ve done & I agree, painting the island was a good choice. I didn’t even notice your range hood till you mentioned it but the idea/ vision picture you had would look so great! I live in a home built in 1976 w/ the original kitchen & cabinets. Because of budget concerns we had the cabinets painted & not replaced. The guy who did this was very talented so I asked him to build me, free form, a range hood. I showed him several pictures & he built & installed my new hood. I LOVE IT! Since I didn’t have the money for a full on renovation, I’m so glad he did that, it makes a huge difference! Brings my kitchen out of the 70’s…not really to 2024 but at least in the general time frame! 😊

Love the new countertops! You did a nice job! Every little addition you do to this room just keeps making it look more homey and beautiful. Enjoy yourself in the “new” kitchen! BTW -I like the island matching the cabinets, it just seems to give your eye, more “flow” when you glance around the room!
The white island is a big boost up to lighten up a dark space. When you redo your butcher block top, go at least as light as your chairs- or lighter. The dark brown top fights with black counters. The above stove picture is adorable and needs to stay in your kitchen- just hang it in different spot away from grease and food spatters. Like the platter over stove idea!
I love the counter tops! I have had granite counter tops for 28 years, and they have held up remarkably. I think you will be so happy with them. The leather look is so beautiful! So happy for you!!

The new counters look so beautiful, and what a blessing to have a new stove for free! I think your idea of a platter above the stove is a good one, but for now the art piece looks very charming. It's a beautiful, cozy kitchen, and if you really miss the green on the island you can always paint it back!
Gorgeous! I loved the green island too, but with the black countertops, it was probably too dark. I think painting it the same color as the rest of the cabinets looks beautiful!
Congradulations! It looks wonderful! I think you will be very happy with the leathered countertop. I had a 50s tiled drainboard that I replaced with a light grey polished granite. If I had only known.... that when the morning sun flooded into my kitchen and hit that polished granit that the glare would be so blinding, I would never have chosen granite. It was just like the sun reflecting off a mirror into the eye. So crass first thing in the morning! I learned to lay kitchen towls out at nite before I went to bed just to safely enter my kitchen in the morning. I quickly disliked the countertop, and I began to abuse it in hopes it would need to be replaced sooner rather than later. But it held up! Lol. So keep my experience in mind if you're thinking about the polished granite for your island. Especially if the sun comes through the kitchen window.
For the next phase, maybe you could go back with a lighter, less high contrast color on the island.Glad you’re happy with your new stone countertops!
