      If you are going to paint over it, you can use this product from Bondo:
      www.homedepot.com/p/3M-Bondo-12-fl-oz-Wood-Filler-30081/206680651
      It is a two part chemical that you mix, but it dries completely, ready to sand in about 15 minutes. It only has about five to ten minutes of working time after you mix it, so make small batches. They say it is able to take stain but I have not tried that. It works fantastic for painted surfaces.

    Great project. Great video. I'll be using these plans to build an outdoor cabinet for my bar and smoker supplies. To weight down the center of large glue-up panels and boards I bought 25-lb bags of lead shot (available on Amazon). The don't take up much room in the shop and will conform to odd shapes when necessary.

    If you prime with a Shellac based primer it is helpful in both ply and edge banding absorbing moisture and bubbling from a water based latex top coat, and it sands nice to give a really smooth top coat. Good looking project!!

    excellent video. I like the way you show your mistakes, we all make them. where did you score that slab? • @tungsten_carbide

    That looks great. One point, I looked through the comments and didn't see that you've already addressed this, but were you aware that pocket screws used to attach a solid-wood top don't allow for seasonal movement? This is a big problem long term and can lead to a split after a couple of seasons. And with the slab coming in directly from outside like this it could have a lot of drying out to do this first winter, so the top will want to shrink across its width which will put a lot of strain on the screws.
    Other than that great build. And nice job on doubling up the sides, beefed up like this they balance nicely with the thick top.

    • @diyhuntress
      @diyhuntress  5 років тому +2

      I’ll definitely keep an eye on it and see how it moves - it was kiln dried and has been sitting and acclimating for a while, so there should hopefully not be too much movement. The screws are in (I used specific screws rated for hardwoods), and the slab is sturdy, but I didn’t over tighten. If anything changes, I’ll make note on the video and the post over time.
      Everything is a learning experience. This build was one of them. 😊
