I honestly don't know how you make a movie about how the strangers became the strangers without it sucking. Its like making the origin story to Michael Myers. Most of what make the home invasion work in horror is that there is absolutely no reason for the invasion beyond what the girl said "cause your here" Putting a face to the mask takes away all that and saying this why they do it also kills the scary aspect of it

Part of what makes the OG work is the slow burn & the little subtleties. Bag head in the shadows while Liv Tyler is standing in the kitchen & the ending where Scott Speedman looks down & sees that Liv is wearing the engagement ring. See that's EXACTLY why I watch reviews from a few select people on UA-cam (including Lee). I watch reviews from these people precisely because I have come to trust their opinions over time and I know that there is a high probability that if they tell me the movie is not worth my time, then the movie probably isn't worth my time. I'm being pragmatic. I hate picking a movie and then watch that movie and then being disappointed by that movie. That's what so great about reviewers, they're like people who choose to put themselves through the ringer before most of us do and then come back to tell us what's ahead.
I'm not a scientist, but according to my calculations, I probably ended up saving around 72.789 hours of my life this way.

I definitely enjoyed it a lot more with the audience participation. However, yeah, what a total letdown. I made a comment on one of your earlier videos that I didn't see how this film could top the original's iconic moment where the stranger walks in and out of the room with Liv Tyler not noticing, and sadly I was right (although the cigarette-lighter moment in the barn/garage tried REALLY hard and did provide a good scare)! It took me forever to think of 1 thing I enjoyed about this movie. 1 reasons why I’d ever revisit the film and came up with one shots. 1) is a shot through the peep hole where we see a female stranger cover it up as the girl is looking through it. This film didn’t originate that shot, but I felt it was well used in the story. I only wished we got a reverse shot of the girls eye ball.
The worst part was the pacing and stretching out of moments to get that 90 minute runtime. I doubt the script was even 90 pages unless there were a bunch of deleted scenes. When the couple took time to cry and mourn the guy they killed rather than getting the keys and driving away happened I almost threw my whole popcorn in the air. No one, NO ONE would’ve just sat there and cried knowing they only have a few seconds before their three killers destroy that car. They wouldn’t just sit and cry.

Its a horror movie though part of the enjoyment of horror is screaming at the scream at every dumb thing our protagonist do. The funny thing is that no one would sat there and freak out about murdering a person in cold blood and that is honestly not true. There is a shock that comes on anyone that murders a person. If there is no reaction or shock to it then that means they are not actually normal and are used to killing people or seeing death that they are no longer fazed by it. The real dumb thing happened after they snapped out of that shock and that was them not driving off when the truck hit them. They just stayed there while the truck reversed to ram them again. They could have easily just sped off meaning that now the killer had to race them before they got to civilization
Edit another dumb thing was not shooting the woman when he had the change. He just stalled giving time for one of the other 2 to get to him and stop him

The Strangers isn’t a top favorite of mine but I enjoyed the mysterious nature around the characters and it felt like a real situation in the original film. We don’t need to understand how the strangers became the strangers hopefully Chapter 2 is better than this one but it’s not giving me much hope

I strongly disliked this movie but I’m hopeful since they seem to feel like they did something special with the trilogy. Not getting my hopes up though. Also the main actress said she helped write some of her scenes. That’s interesting but nothing seemed to work.

You’re very generous to the actors, but really, it’s the actors job to go through the script, track the character’s emotional journey, and deliver it on the day. The director can help, yes, but they’re also focusing on many other things. Very sadly, there’s so many talented actors out there but casting directors go for ones who have a look good on-camera but have no sense of craft.

I did at first think Neil was MITM but as the evidence points out, that’s highly impossible because he & Eden were already at that outdoor-food rental whilst Dollface & MITM was already at the AIRBNB traumatising Maya. It wouldn’t make any lick of damn sense for Eden & Neil to jump locations & somehow predict which direction Ryan would take on his way back to the AIRBNB either, so they’re marked off the Suspects list.
& it’s funny too because Neil pointed it was their anniversary & you later on see MITM & Pin-Up girl jamming out & getting all cozy for a moment like they’re celebrating for a special occasion, which is probably nothing less of a misunderstood Coincidence. But if it turns out they’re 2 of the masked individuals & that scene was supposed to be a dead giveaway, I want a deep logical explanation on how the hell they could possibly have been in 2 places at once lmao

If you can accuse me of being afraid of something, it’s a home invasion situation; and that 2018 movie had me scared the whole time. Life would be boring if we all had the same opinion on everything. I'm just glad you are not the type to go and flat out say not to see something. If you were the type, I would unsubscribe to you super fast, because that's when they start bringing in other political stuff I have no interest in. Really, I wish Hollywood stopped doing this plan on a trilogy before the first movie comes out. More often than not, that seems to be when the first one falls flat on it's face. Best to put the first movie as a stand alone, if you want to sequel bait at the end, that's fine, but let the first movie breathe before planning on doing more. After all, that was how we got some of the best trilogies out there. The Original Star Wars Trilogy and Back to the Future are two that comes to mind that did it that way, and look at how great they turned out. Anyways, enjoyed this. Thank you, Lee.
