    Somehow, simple things like this seem to be the most satisfying. Reminds me of the days when both my grandmother and mother used to bake bread.

    Beautiful! While I'm not new to bread baking, the gentle reminders of the value of carefully weighing the ingredients was terrific! Kneading dough by hand is kinda magical! Everyone should try this.

      Thanks Lisa, I over the years we have dipped in and out of Machine Mixing and Hand Mixing, I still get more satisfaction hands on but the hook can sometimes take over. I think if you are new to Bread making though it's essential to get the feel, don't you :o) X

    I like to form my dough into balls by flattening the dough slightly and pull the sides into the centre then fold in half, and half again. Lastly, cup your hands and roll the dough on the surface like you did. PERFECTLY round balls! Anyways, it's really best not to cut open bread when it's still hot because it's flavour and texture still developes like it cools. Nice video though!

    • @Steve-Owens
      @Steve-Owens  7 років тому

      It's a good tip, either way, you are developing Gluten Tension in the Surface, cutting hot bread is never a great Idea, unless of course they are rolls out of the oven and you have zero discipline, like someone I know LOL

    Hey Steve, wondering if you can use this for regular bread? I've been trying other recipes but I can't seem to get it right, but this seems simple enough.

    • @Steve-Owens

      What sort of bread are you wanting to make Furgie? Try the Roll bread recipe I made a week or two back.

      Ideally I want to get to the point where I'm largely making sandwich loaves. The main thing I'm struggling with is the yeast, which usually isn't rising properly. I've either let the water cool too much, or set in too warm of an oven. Thanks for taking the time to help!

    Hi Steve, made these yesterday, they were lovely. but I forgot to stick them in the freezer. how can I revive them, to use today?

    • @Steve-Owens
      @Steve-Owens  7 років тому

      Wrap them in a Damp (not wet) Lint free cloth and just zap them in the Microwave (wrapped) for max 10 seconds.. It may work, let me know.. Or just mist them with water and reheat in the oven for max 5 minutes.. :o)

    • @Steve-Owens
      @Steve-Owens  7 років тому +1

      Pure whole wheat can be a little heavy to many of our pallets, it's not my favorite, rather you can experiment with say 10 to 20% Whole grain flours and see if you like it :o)

    When I have made bread, I used a fork to mix the flour, salt, sugar, yeast water and oil. That's the ingredients I used. Then I kneaded the dough by hand. Those rolls look good.

      Cheers Dwayne, I never can see the point in making a lot of hand cleaning work with starting too early but I am happy for others to do as they please, we'll stick to the less messy method eh!

    Send me a few please. Would you buy the most expensive strong flour , yeast, I yet have never bought either .
    Do you always buy active yeast , does it matter, They looked yummy really do . 🌈

      I tend to think good flour produces nicer tasting rolls and often the best flour is not so expensive Rita :o)

      Same as any bread, they last a day or so at peak and go down hill fast, but they also freeze well for storing.

      Window Bread.. 🙄😳 No, Seriously though, not bread requires that, it's just a way of Demonstrating that Gluten has developed but if you make bread regularly, you'll know the feel..
