Project 827, the 1989 Rover 827Si fastback that we dug out of a hedge earlier in the year is done. It's been saved, brought back, restored to its former glory and that means it's time. Time to set it free. In this final episode, we look at the car as it is now, we give it a bit of a road test and we look back on what has been a really rather smashing restoration. It's been fun, and we will miss the car immensely, but sometimes if you love something, you need to set it free. Or sell it, if you want to be less poetic.

You and Ruben should be incredibly proud ! This has been a fabulous series! No endless tripe and sponsors just excellent entertainment
Both Ruben and yourself have done a tremendous job. More of these would be incredible
Such a great series. Please, please don't get caught up with sponsorship and ad drenched videos in the future. Whilst we viewers appreciate it may make financial sense etc on your part, these are quickly becoming rare gems, just unadulterated viewing pleasure. Thank you and merry Christmas 🙏
Just watched all episodes of this restoration. Absolutely fantastic. Had an 820e back in 1992. Beautiful cars the mk1's.
Well that's that one over, turned out well didn't it.
Thankyou every one for watching along ,even you know who ,sitting in his underwear gave us a good laugh...
It's been on the whole very enjoyable getting the old girl going again, and we very much hope to be back in the New Year with a little something completely different !..
A couple of points before I sign off .
Have yourselves a Verry Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
And last but in no way least
A huge Thankyou to the man who made this look so brilliant with his camera work and editing skill Mark you even managed to make me look almost reasonable, skill indeed.
Cheers All .Re U Ben
Thank you Reuben, that's very kind. This series has been one of my all time favourite things I've produced, and I've made quite a lot! From the undergrowth, to the NEC to it's new owner, documenting this transformation has been a pleasure. I'm keeping my fingers crossed we'll be turning over more motors together in the future.
Well done Reuben - only thing to add is that I think a beard might suit you :)
Cup of tea, a few biscuits and 33 minutes of Rover greatness. Two car nuts messing about whilst being beautifully filmed. I'm sad the series has ended it's been fantastic. Really looking forward to the next one!! Top work all. Thank you and Merry Christmas.
Everyone needs a friend like Ruben 😊
They're lovely, and lively, to drive. The V6 revs beautifully, with a lot of power for its day. I used to have a 91 Vitesse as my daily drive. I've shown up a few of the go faster brigade in their little hot hatches.
Old age took its toll, and I had neither the skill to solve the issue, or the money to pay someone who did have the skills, so it had to go. There are times I still miss it, on the road.
Had a quarter million miles on the clock, and still ran smoothly. It didn't matter what sort of road I was on, when the pedal went down, the engine revs climbed, and off we went.
If I'd had the seven thousand, I'd have taken your fingers if you didn't let go of the keys fast enough.
Once again, memories of past experience provoked by a car video. Sped at illegal speeds as a passenger in an early, just bought new 820si from St Pourçain to Clermont Ferrand, A left hooker, it went very well and hence I've always had a soft spot. A brilliant series of vids and all my respect for taking this on, thank you.
This car has come such a long way and still looks as good now as when it was new and much better then some of today's cars , would have been good if it could have ended up in a museum with that mileage on her
Love it !! Worked on these as an 16 year old apprentice at Rover !! I’m 51 now ! Nice save boys well done
This has been a fantastic series, the car looks amazing, glad it's going to a good home! Quite the double act appearing with you two as well 😊 More of this please 😅 Have a lovely Christmas!
Superb Resto!.........I'm extremely envious of the lucky owner! It would be a real honour and pleasure to sweep along the A+B roads of Devon in this lovely example of an underrated gem!
Please don’t stop. These videos are brilliant.
Wow the car looks truly beautiful, what a turnaround. The colour is gorgeous, BRG used to be a popular choice on Rovers and ubiquitous, but seeing it again is lovely and doesn't it pop in the sunlight especially after that detail!
We didn't appreciate these cars enough at the time really when they were common, this was the high tide period of Rover's successful association with Honda which truly peaked with the class leading R8.
Really enjoyed watching this and you all should be so very proud of saving this rare old girl. 👍🙂
I'm a "Ford" man but this series has been very good. The question of doing another project can be answered easily, Yes!! Over furlough I watched alot of stuff and in particular 70s 80s and 90s Rallying. Your renovation of the 827 reminded me of Tony Pond's record breaking lap of the Isle of Man TT course in an 827 Vitesse. All of the Rovers of that period have an undeserved image, they were just as good as Ford's and Vauxhalls but just never got the breaks. I recently saw a MG ZT on an auction site, for me the best of both worlds, a nice design with a big old V8 Mustang heart what a car. Anyway, in conclusion, well done, the Rover looks like new, please do another project, your only "failure" is not to inspire me myself to get my own Sorned car back on the road. Need a mechanic for that! Thanks, best wishes for the New Year, Ben.
Well done on producing a brilliant series of videos. It must have taken a lot of effort to do the filming, let alone the actual retrieval and restoration work. Far better than anything I’ve seen on terrestrial TV for many years! I hope the Rover is now looked after as it deserves to be. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Bucket load of nostalgia there ..... I had a light metallic blue Mk1 820i fastback with the same boot spoiler back in the early 90s ... the 827 was just a dream . So wish I had been in a position to buy this beauty . Thanks for the trip down memory lane ...even got some old pictures out to show my son !
Best UA-cam of the year, thanks both. More Ruben next year please. Have great holidays 👍
Great series! Stumbled upon the first episode and binge watched all six. You and Ree-U-Ben make a great team. Can’t wait for the next project.
Have loved this series! I have a huge love of Rovers of this era. Used to get hire cars through work who for a time exclusively user Rover (I think it was Enterprise) so had so many 200 / 400 / 600 /800s. Used to get 600/800s when there were a few travelling, and had a few 827 Sterlings and Vitesses. Also used to own a white 92 220gti, absolutely loved that car.
Had a Honda Legend with the same engine. Lovely and smooth is my abiding memory 🙂
It’s been fantastic following the entire journey! Turned out beautifully. Awesome job all round. Thanks guys!
Brilliant to see it go to a good home, very well saved. Looked amazing when I saw it at the NEC, literally the only fault I could find was that you replaced the original number plates for modern ones!
Looking forward to the next project car.
Thank you!
It was sold with the original plates, and the new owner will have some period correct ones made. I didn't have the time, or the money, so had to just get something legal for the MOT as the rear one had delaminated quite badly.
A throughly enjoyable restoration and series. Thanks.
Brings back memories. Worked at a Rover dealership from 1990 to 1996 and my favourite two cars to drive of that period were the 827 Vitesse manual hatchback and the 220 Turbo coupe manual. Great cars. The 820 Turbo Vitesse was ok but not as special as the 827 Vitesse to drive. That V6 was a great engine, shame Rover never got the bigger capacity Honda V6s.
What a well presented, edited and interesting series. Definitely come back with something else ..
👏 bravo gents. A fantastic series. More like this please!
Thank you for the journey.
Fantastic series and a beautiful result, I can tell you are both smitten with this car and you have every right to be. A follow up series on another project car would be fantastic 👍 Keep up the great work guys 😁
What a fantastic feat and story, a lovely end to end entertaining watch today!
Ruben & Chris brilliant project.
Looking forward to more Projects from The New Double Act!
C&R's Big Automotive Adventure.
That's amazing it really is reminds me of my dad's two that he had back in the day.
i really enjoyed the Series on this Rover. Hopefully you do more like this on Rovers as you hardly see them anymore.
What a great series, you two are thoroughly brilliant to watch and I have enjoyed every second of it, well done and please bring us more!!!
That car is most splendid correct!
You did a superb job on the Rover! Well done!!! 😊🚗❤️
Well done guys excellent spannering & camera work and another one saved.
You have to do more without a shadow of a doubt. This series has been so good it's crazy. You do have to be very very particular in what car you do next. Don't just fall down the YT rabbit hole and fully rebuild a car because it's what we all want. It's not & this little series proves that. Subtle repairs & improvements where required to bring the mighty 827 back into life.
Next car - set a budget of 10k
Say 3rd week in Jan '23 & pick a car from C&C Listings, leave a comment why you picked it and go from there.
The problem here is that, other than Mark on the camera, I financed this. My car, my workshop rental, my money buying parts. £10k would be lovely, but I don't have £10k.
I really enjoyed watching this. I also have a Rover 827 MK1 Vitesse - It has only done 35K from new and has a very interesting history. Likewise I have issues with front suspension, fuel filler replacement and ABS issues. Fortunately I have all the parts but having trouble finding anyone to do the work where I live (Enfield). If anybody has any connections with regards getting this work completed please let me know. Happy to pay of course. Would consider paying an enthusiast if the circumstances were right (security etc).
An enthusiastic job well done gents..
Onward to the next project soon please.
Beautiful car is the 827
Fantastic job
An excellent series. More please. So much a very English presentation. No sh*te just honest work with warts and all. Does show what is possible with some effort and commitment. I am sure the new owner will appreciate the purchase. Again, more please.
Epic journey! Role on the next bush....
it may be old, and it may be smelly, it won't get stuck with KY jelly 🤣🤣🤣, great series chaps.
A fine lady back on the road. A happy tale ... Thank you!
Fantastic series, many thanks for making the time to share the progress.
Super! Well done guys 👍👏
I have enjoyed this series, thank you!
I've really enjoyed this series. You and Reuben are both excellent company and spark off each other wonderfully. Reuben also has a great turn of phrase. Great to see an old car brought back to life. I'm looking forward to the next project. A very happy, safe and peaceful Christmas to you both.
Reuben has to be German comedian Ernst Hilbich's long-lost twin brother who somehow grew up in the UK! The ressemblance is absolutely remarkable!
It makes you wonder what went wrong with BL when you hear how good this car really is.
Marvelous job guys !
Very well done !
Tell you what mate. Between yourself, the paint gremlin and raffles the gentleman mechanic, you did a belting job. You should do it again.... Thinking about that ...... Rover Paul aka project Nigel has.a rather sad rover 600 that would be interesting...... Not many people restoring 620.....
Absolutely fantastic series, thank you both, and C&C for making this happen 🎄
I'd use it as a daily ram raider. Lovely job 🥰😍
Thoroughly enjoyable series from start to finish. Looking forward to more projects like this.
Very much enjoyed following this series. Would love to see some more like this in the future. Cheers guys
As said previously on the other videos. Just great work from great guys! Lovely motor!
Superb series, fantastic result!
very nice!!!
Thank you cant say no more 😁😁
Nice job chaps, well done! 👍
Loved the story on this car Chris. Brilliant videos, thank you so much!
Incredible mate - well done!!
I'd have been happy to give £10K, but it would needed to have been shipped to Thailand. Lucky new owner!
Ding Dong..... simply spiffing
Very well done gents 👏
Well done! This channel rocks!
Wow guys very nice 💯💯👍
Brilliant, well done lads, Merry Christmas 🎄🎄
Portishead! My old town.
You and Reuben have done an incredible job with this. I'm trying to get my late father's 820 back on the road, and these videos have been an inspiration. It's good to know you're not alone:)
Absolutely mega. Love the chemistry between you both, all the little jokes you're cracking all the time. I'm sad to see this project done already, but I'm happy to see new ones coming!
What an absolute brilliant video . Was made up to see this at the show and meet you. Can wait to see more!
Great video. These Rovers are brilliant. Very rare today. Wonderful cars.
Well done Chris & Ruben, the car is a credit to you both & can't wait to see the next one👍
What a fantastic series this has been. Thank you all. 🍻🥃
This was a fantastic series and it was great to watch to the very last second. It’s one of those videos on UA-cam that you never want to skip. You and Mr Coggins make a great duo.
Merry Christmas for you and your family Mr Pollit.
Came out beautifully! Great job fellas! Cheers to you from across the pond! 🍻
What a result. I hope that the car has many happy years ahead of it :)
What a great little series. Having owned two of these exact cars, one silver and one the same as yours. It brought back some very happy memories and as you guys have found they drive very well. Thanks you both very much. 😀👍
So much respect for what you both achieved with this Chris. I know you have spoken at length on Twitter about your battles with mental health and the stress of being in that awful flat. I have to say I’ve never been happier for a person I’ve never met to we were you are now, you are a credit to your family and a great example for others. Well done Chris. I wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2023 in your new home.
This has been a truly wonderful and enjoyable series. I really admire your presentation style…calm, focused and no B.S. Well done on saving a piece of automotive history and I hope you continue making quality entertainment for us to enjoy. Thanks.
Really enjoyed this series and I hope the new owner looks after it
Hope you both do another ❤
Great Videos! Always wanted one, 'one day!.' :)
Thank you Chris and Rubin for this set of videos, absolutely loved every minute and it was awesome to see it at the NEC, showing once again you can bring something back from the dead and not just throw it away, shame it was so "rotten" Merry Christmas 🙂
Some nice views of Portishead and the surrounding countryside, I have enjoyed this series, excellent work and commentary
Really loved this series. I am also a local (Worle), so also enjoyed seeing the car on local Portishead/Portbury roads!
If you're ever looking to review a more modern car, i'm not far away and would be more than happy for you to drive/review my 987 Boxster S
I sincerely hope you do another car in the future - this series was excellent through and through.
Well done gents.
You have to be very happy you saved it and now someone else will keep it in its present
Very beautiful state
The new owner is a very lucky person 👍👍
Well done Chris I have absolutely loved this series. Being a ford guy alway as you well know this has re ignited a passion for me in all things with 4 wheels .to have seen this wonderful old rover resumed from the bushes and finally on display for the world to see have been a true credit to you and the team at car and classic .I look forward to seeing the next car you revive from its slumber . Wishing you and the family a fabulous Christmas. Hope to see you at some point in the new year .all the best mate 👍
Amazing work Chris and Ruben it's been a fantastic awesome series best on UA-cam 👏🙏 more of the same pls.
More Projects, more Re U Ben and change nothing else! Merry Christmas! 🎉
Absolutely one brilliant video. I am amazed how quiet inside the car is while driving and you talking. Hardly a rattle inside and no squeaks. Sterlings are beautiful cars and wish they had been around longer here in the US.
Wow what a journey, the new owner is getting a motoring gem, I was on a YTS in late 80s at a local Rover dealer. Absolutely loved these. I can still smell the new car smell, seat covers on the seats. Beautiful cars to drive auto or manual. It's of a time when Rover got it right! What a stunning example.... well done gents!
So nice to see another cowley car back on the road. Nicely done. (grew up in Cowley and family worked at Rover) .
Absolutely superb series, loved every minute of it. Possible the best thing I've seen on UA-cam, but that's partly because I have a bit of a thing for Rover 800 series cars. Please do more of these videos on the next project. I'm off to go browse car and classic now.
Lovely job and series. I’d happily daily that just to be different and pile the miles on to annoy the low mileage bores. Cars are for driving! When I was a teen one of our neighbours had a near identical one on a H plate, never forget my dad reversing straight in to it in his Senator. A classic 90s mid management crash.
Hope to see you guys do a similar buy a car and restore it series, thoroughly enjoyed it and congratulations on the outcome
Great car. You have probably saved it for good. 👍
