Huzzah, the 1989 Rover 827Si that we found in a hedge is running again. New cambelt, fully serviced and running on all six. In this episode, we cover some of the work done, we talk new tyres, Pollitt takes on some bodywork with better results than anticipated and we have a look at some of the other interesting cars that are hiding in our secret unit. Enjoy!

Unfortunately in life you will always get people moan.I personally love the channel and the fact your bringing a Rover 827 back to life gets a massive thumbs up from me.After working for 12 yrs at Longbridge ive still got a soft spot for all things to do with Rovers.Keep up the great work.
Sadly there are always those out there who know better and take great satisfaction in criticising. For the vast majority, we appreciate the entertainment and sharing the journey with us, thank you.
Well said
I agree, no need to call it the Haynes book of lies, but as you say some people always know better.
This series really has no right to be as good as it is. Outstanding production and editing, fascinating subject and great execution. Punching so far above your weight.
I think Reuben could easily have a career doing e-book voiceovers. Such a soothing tone of voice 😂 Great series though guys. Really enjoyed this videos. Credit to you both 😊
I'd be more interested in him hosting a podcast. He's full of wit and wisdom. Salt of the earth, a genuine rare treasure.
@@richardharrold9736 Roobin is the kinda guy who gets the hoof from a rolls Royce dealer service centre when it shuts in a recession and ends up in a BL dealer cam belting rover 825’s for kenning and sucking air through gritted teeth when a 6 day old metro comes back full of water and granny’s wet .
He drives the apprentices mad with words a past generation loved to hear but in this day and age it’s a blast from the past .
Get that man a monacle and smoking jacket 🧥
@@chiefrocka8604 that's as may be, but he's a joy to listen to. He must be a good twenty years or so older than Chris, and they get along just fine...
Ru-ay-ben is the bloke you'd wished was always over your shoulder when you were 17 stuck under your first banger on a Sunday afternoon on your dad's drive knowing you had to get the cv boots done before the mot on Monday morning. Love him to bits
He is the best thing to happen to all of UA-cam in 2022.
About time! I've been waiting for the next installment of raffles the gentleman mechanic and his mongy mate with a spray can 👍
Another quality instalment. "Pipe down Gary, no-one cares" is now my go-to response to everything.
"Considerable speed ripples..." Haha!! Fair play, that made me laugh! Love these videos - thanks for sharing this project!
My first 6 cylinder car was a Rover 827 auto saloon (not fastback) I think it was the si model in this colour. I called it “the armchair” as it was so comfortable. Them were the days.
To preempt the man in his pants. This man in his pyjamas is very impressed with the quality of your paint job on that spoiler Chris.
Really enjoying the series. Thank you!
From the beginning of the saga of this rover, this is one of my favourite series of tinkering on a car on UA-cam :))
Unexpectedly intertwining. I almost want a Rover 827 now. Remember driving one on several occasions in the mid to late nineties - what a sweet sounding engine.
I’ve always loved the super-spacious interior and leather upholstery versions of these. 🙏
Always enjoy tuning in to see the hedge find managers at work, investing in the future of classic motoring.
Outstanding video, better than tv quality and such tasteful music bits. Ruben's knowledge and hands this Rover is getting the care it needed.
It is so nice to see such detail to your work. Slow patient and methodical
My name's Gavin and I'm going to write a strongly worded email to The Droitwich Advertiser.
Cracking stuff Chris, keep up the good work.
Love these guys ! You can't beat the English humour !!
I think for a rattle can job you did a exceptional job on that spoiler
Definitely not a dig or a complaint, just a little tip in case you weren't aware. When mixing body filler of any sort, cardboard isn't the best base to use as it can absorb up to like 20% of the filler you've poured out. Not a huge deal, but I noticed you had some laminated cardboard, which would work a lot better as a mixing base. Love the videos, keep it up!
My dad had the 825 sterling with a manual box. Lovely drive. It had hydraulic lifters and adjustable arm like a mini. Done that twice leant over the engine. Bit of a pig to do the rears. Let rover do the cam belt. Took em 2 days, as not happy it was timed right. Such a smooth drive, great motorway car.
This is such a great series thank you
Fantastic documented journey of a car I never really liked, but with you and your team putting so much care and attention into it, I’ve found a little bit of love for the old rover!
Well done that man.
enjoying watching this. my dad had one back in the 90s. he had a 1983 polo what failed its mot badly £450 for welding he said not worth it. so needing to get a car for work and not a lot of money there was a 1988 rover 827 for sale on the roundabout where he used to live, it had 8 months mot and 6 months tax for £200 with "slight engine fault", so needing a car my dad baught it. 1st day he drove it to work he found out what the "slight engine fault" was..when he first started it up from cold the engine would rev to 1500rpm once it got warm it would kangeroo down the road (jolting like what happends when you keep pressing and letting go of the throttle). turned out to be a vaccum leak, £2 for a bit of rubber pipe fixed it, he had the car for the next 5 year. passed each mot not costing him nothing. regular oil changes, new spark plugs and air filter every 5000 miles.other than a set of brake pads it just ran n ran n ran never let him down.then the petrol prices started rising and with my dad only on £3 an hour(security guard, no minimum wage back then) just started to get too expensive to run. so he sold it for £700. he looked for a 820 (smaller engine) but a lot suffered bad rust and were getting scrapped finding a good one was impossible. so he ended up with a 1988 ford granada 2.0i ghia. the last time i saw the rover the old man who baught it off my dad was still driving it about in 2004. in 2006 it was parked in a garage and the old man who baught it off my dad had passed away. i moved out of the area in 2009 as my dad passed away, so dont know what happend to it after that. your doing a good job and your attention to detail is nice to see. subscribed for the next episode👍
Good stuff, looking forward to seeing her all buffed up.
Just wanna say I love car and classic
I definitely owe you guys a beer for selling my cars 👍
Top video guys. Great to see the car progressing nicely.
Love this series of videos. 👏🏻
Awesome progress! It's not over until it's a Rover again...!
Really really enjoying this series, the two of you make a great double act too!
Brilliant project guys really looking forward to seeing this finished and the value of it.
See you at the show looking forward to seeing the results of your labours.
I'm loving this recommission 😁 keep it up
i've really enjoyed these so far! keep it up!
Super project, brilliant work, have been following since the first installment. Bravo!
Two friends great rapor . Fun and above all entertainment. Love the show and rover 827 classic motoring . Enjoy every minute
Thoroughly enjoying this recommissioning series, Chris, your presenting style and the side quips are a hoot! Keep up the good work.
Splendid job 🥰
Fantastic stuff, quite the double act 😅 really enjoying seeing this come together. Really enjoy your work Chris and everyone involved 😊
Wicked job Chris 👏👏👏
Love the classic pugs! I had a lazer green 205 gti and 2wd mi16v in my youth. Great chanel👍🏻
Would love to see videos on those Peugeots if they ever do see the road again - two very rare cars and I'd never even heard of the bodykitted saloon version before.
As for the 827 - great to see it coming along, they were lovely cars and now they're finally old enough to be appreciating in value, now is a great time to be saving them.
probably one of the best videos I have watched this month, and I watch a lot, well done lads keep them coming
Good work fellas!
Good work chaps, looking forward to seeing it at the NEC👍
Great video again. I would happily watch another series of you doing this sort of work rescuing cars. This Rover series has been an absolute joy to watch. Oh, and I also hate doing bodywork too.
Another great video. Lovely to see the Rover coming back to life but by bit. Chris and Rueben make me laugh so you guys are 👍👍 in my book. More videos very soon please.
Perfect Sunday evening content c:
I just love Chris’s style, no UA-cam bullshit. Definitely one of my favourite restorations, looking forward to seeing it at the nec next month.
Had an 820i SE from what I recall, stunning car and very quick for the time. Always wanted an 827 but never happened. Great work keep it up
Great videos... the two of you could be on TV no problem. love 90s Rovers, and love the827! I think my Dad's 1990 Rover 216 came with Dunlops too... I remember liking that they looked sporty.... I'd have been tempted to stick to some sort of Dunlop tyre to keep the link. Can't wait to see it at the NEC!
Superb Work! It's great to see this Rover 827 Fastback being brought back to life. I worked at Cowley on these and it brings back so many memories of these when they were new! This one is a true rare survivor in amazing condition! WELL DONE 👍👍👍👍👍
Fantastic project be brave!!!
Brilliant real as you can get keep up the great work god bless bring back the classic car's
I remember seeing pictures of that Renault 4 back in the day, glad to see it still exists!
Good work on the Rover too!
The 827 is a lovely car. As someone who worked at Cowley when they were launched it is excellent to see. Great video and well done with your paintwork efforts.
Ding dong... superbly spiffing..... carry on.
I passed my test on an SD1 then my Dad decided to get one of these. I loved driving them, very responsive for its time. Great work getting this machine back and on the road, bravo to your both!
Thanks for sharing. I am inspired to leave the comfort of kitchen table and go outside to fettle something.
Really, really enjoying the content on the rover, guys! Not seen one of these old beasts for years! Once a common sight, now rare as hen's teeth 😞 Well done for keeping this one alive 👌🏻👌🏻
Having watched parts 1-3 I then saw this at the NEC on Sunday. You have both done a great job and car looked great. A little nostalgic for me as my dad had an 820 mk1 and then a Vitesse when I was a kid. Great work guys. It was great to show my dad the car on Sunday as id been going on about this series to him.
The inner wing and bulkhead areas still look almost as good as new! Good work boys!
Wow, just stumbled on your channel and as luck would have it, I used to have the 1987 Series 1 825 S model sold in the states. Loved the interior trim and the overall fit and finish. Great ride on the Interstate highways here. The US dealer network however was another story. Glad you all are saving this one. Love your banter back and forth with Reuben and the musical interludes while pulling bits off the car. I'll be looking forward to episode 5. Cheers from Mexico.
I’ve been watching this from the start and it’s good to see a Rover getting some love, I have always loved the 800 series Rover, to be honest I love most Rover’s, and having driven many 827 sterling’s and a 820 turbo Vitesse I have a love for them. I think a nice set of either Vitesse or sterling alloys would set the green off nicely
Loved my 827 Vitesse Fastback in Nightfire red the only car I wish I could still have
Well obviously that's not going to happen....
Brilliant! Thanks chaps. Takes me back this one. My old man had this very model but in a gunmetal grey. That pesky red stripe on the bumpers just flaked off after a couple of years, and that was when it was new! That said, it was chrome underneath. So we helped it along.
Good humour and a healthy 'that'll do' attitude. 👍🇬🇧
Amazing content, am loving the old Rover stuff and to add to your point on tyres, as a mechanic, if you have cracks in your tyres it can fail it's mot if the tester can see the structure of the tyre through the cracks
"Cause you're a misery" 😆😆 Enjoying it still, it is a very soothing series. Thank you, and you have another subscriber 👍
Perfection 👍
🥳 great work guys
Nice work guys 👍
Outstanding series / enjoyed it greatly - will come and say hello at the NEC
Good tip for checking the condition of tyres is also have a look at the four digit date code.
Great video mate keep up the good work👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers Pat🇦🇺
Well, I’m enjoying these videos top work tremendous as long as I’m happy that’s all you need to worry about keep it up❤
that 405 wow love it
Hi, enjoying this series as used to love 800s. Check the variable intake system is working OK. You can see the metal levers under the throttle body. At idle and up to 2500 rpm ish, the levers should be at rest position which is towards the radiator. Then at 2500 to 3500 they should be seen to move to a middle position so move towards bulkhead. Then over 3500 they should move again to near bulkhead, so three positions and two which are actuated. If it does not work, you will not be getting full performance. The system is vacuum controlled and actuated by two solenoids in the control box on the bulkhead. Often the solenoids get stuck and need a little love to work again so the vacuum goes to the actuator as the ECU wants.
Thanks for posting that ,it was in fact the very first thing I checked after the car had been started and run up to operating temperature.
Great job love these vids
Lovely 827 by the way
Well done indeed.
Really enjoyed that
I think you did a very good job on that back spoiler ❤
Looks great
I owned 2 x mi16 back in the day when they were current , loved them and would Love another , seen them in the background , another 405 mi16 is absolutely top of the list in my car wish list but they’re so rare and usually too far gone
That car sounds sweet 👌
Chris and Ruben make a great team. Cheers Ruben!
Yes and their constant Old English “dancehall” humour ha ha!😊
Great job on the spoiler and bumper. I have a phase 1 405 sri
Peugeot 405’s are cracking cars. You have 4 beauties there. Plus a Citroen DS
Bloody Brilliant
Watching from Thailand, but I'm from Littlehampton!
Good work
That spoiler will polish up like glass no problem. You’ve done a nice job of that (I used to be painter in a body shop too,so the haters can shut up)! Excellent pug selection🤟🏻
Nice work chaps. Ignore haters, don't even give them air time. Ta
Looking forward to the NEC
Smut I tell thee 😉 very entertaining thanks
Chris, your channel is fantastic, from presentation through to final edit, the content is really interesting and enjoyable to watch, always. Thanks for taking the time and effort to shoot and edit and upload all this nonsense.
Tell your man I had BX 16s, 19s, GTis and even a 4x4. Not sure I've ever even seen a Pug variety though, let alone 2. They must be the last two in the UK by now. As for the 205. Sacrilege!!!11
That Mi16 estate is awesome. I’d 100% put an offer in on that once restored.
Fabulous video. I doff my cap to that master mechanic Ruben. Working on that Honda engine doesn't look easy. OMG 3 MI16 pugs!!!!!!! I remember to this day test driving one decade ago. Effing quick and handled like a go kart.
Your bodywork skills are very good m8. Whoever slags you off for that is a wanker.
A good friend of mine had one of these back in the day, what a stupidly quick car!
It's coming along nicely, the Peugout 405's look interesting. I was hoping that you'd tell us a little about the red 405 as I'd had a 1989 GRD 1.9. I eventually changed the rear axle for a GTX axle (drums to disc's), cracking car👍
Lovely car. Working hard gents but the result will be excellent.
Love the calmness of the chaps- very engaging. When is the NEC show mentioned? Thank you
2:21 - that's you PWND Gary or whatever you're called 🤣
Couldn't agree with you more on the terribleness of bodywork: I reckon it's because with other fixes you can usually 'Haynes it': just wind back what you've done, then move forward. But trying to reverse body repairs is a harder job that it was before you started. Really enjoying this series - thanks
