I fell in love with this movie when it came out on HBO in 1983. I was 14 then, and forty-one years later I still love it. I could watch it once a week and never tire of it. Seriously, Dolly, Burt, Charles Durning, Dom Deluise, and Jim Nabors all in one movie, singing and dancing?! It's like hitting the jackpot.

One of the best movies of the 80s with legends Dolly and Burt. Loved it then love it now.

Two national treasures in one movie. Burt never played it safe at his most box officey. He's had such an ecliptic career of a wide range and variety of genres and tone mixing films. I forget how many different things he mixed in with the Hal movies. Burt is great. Burt is god. God created Burt and it was good. Thank you God.

I love this movie. It’s like a nude “Oklahoma!” Bits of trivia: Burt’s musical number was included in the release for television (I remember seeing it and thinking, where the hell did this scene come from? His singing was good enough, but it just slowed down the movie); Charles Durning was a professional dancer before he became a renowned actor - his show-stopping number didn’t come out of left field.

'I will always love you' was NOT written for this movie. That song was penned by Dolly decades earlier, specifically to say goodbye to her co-star Porter Waggoner, whom gave her a huge break on his very popular show of the same name. She struggled with this choice and Porter did not make it easier.
Dolly went on to stratospheric heights of fame, Porter died a drunk.

My cousin played in the movie its loosely based on the real chicken ranch and charles durings character is based on Dolph Briscoe governor at the time minus all the singing and dancing

Why did Burt have so many gay friends? Charles Nelson Reilly, Jim Nabors, Dom Deluise...

Dom DeLuise wasn’t gay. He was married for decades and had three children. Reilly and Nabors were gay, that’s correct.

Only Charles Durning was the only one who was good in this movie and had the best number. The rest of the movie kinda sucked.
