The best part of archeage wasn't even the ocean combat or housing. By far the best part was the actual class system, the fact that you could mix and match various stuff to make a very unique build was my favorite part of the game. So far I haven't seen any game actually do this as well as archeage did it.

I was in Steven's guild (his nickname was Sorcerer) White Order up until they made ArcheAge beyond irredeemable and quit. He ran a pretty amazing guild, he ran it like a corporation. He'd even fly out all of his officers out for a party every year in I think vegas. I was one at the highest gs possible on my server on unchained for about a year (f2p mind you couldn’t really P2w on unchained unless you rmt’d) I could go on for hours how it was my favorite game of all time and nothing else will ever satisfy the itch of raid v raid pvp. But I could go on for many more hours on how bad the game was and how it basically just eats itself alive only to create a new fresh start server that eventually catches up and has to emerge with the other severs to continue.

I remember playing Archeage like 6 years ago, maybe? Really cool design. I specifically remember I encountered an illegal tree farm, some guy was trying to get the lightning struck tree lumber shit for the motorized skateboard mount. So, naturally, i started cutting down his trees. He found me and got pissed, screaming "BRO THESE ARE MY FUCKING TREES! FUCK OFF!" and I just ignored him and kept cutting his shit down. He decided he would race me and cut down his other trees before me so i would eventually run out of stuff to steal. Unfortunately for him, one of his trees DID get struck by lightning, the one he was standing at, and it killed him. So i stole his lightning struck tree lumber, made my own skateboard and sat there, waiting for him to return. When he saw me, I assumed he started typing out some explative-laden epilogue and I just rode off.

It didn't die because there were p2w aspects it died because:

  • @Xxp0r

1:05 the irony of Steven (Sorcerer) saying this, which I assume is about sieges because that was always his biggest complaint. First, the castles his guild had was from the initial resource event where he purchased resources from other guild members at a premium who were meant to be using them for their own guild. Second, he would bid on Siege scrolls so that no other guilds could attack him. Finally, when people were able to afford the Siege scrolls he kept bidding up, he lost all his castles in 100v100 and didn't even attempt to siege people back. But perhaps it is this very game design that he is against, despite partaking in it. I do wish him and his team all the best in their endeavor and hope that their game is a huge success just the same.

I played Archeage for nuuumerous years, starting again really with all the new fresh start servers and actually was in an opposing guild against Steven. People made and always used anywhere between 2-10 alts to bypass that labor. Archeage literally has SOOOOOO MUCH potential with the naval battles, World bosses, open world PvP, player housing, and farming. Archeage Unchained DID bring no gain by real life money, but those that could create and take the time to utilized alt accounts did 100%. The guild drama that happened, especially with everything that went down with Steven, was and will be a very good memory of mine, though it happened years ago.

I'm never gonna be tired of saying it: Archeage was one of the best MMOs out there. Because of how making money worked, there was always some world pvp involved. It didn't matter if you were just fishing, doing some packages, dailies, treasures or w.e, at any moment, anyone, friend or foe could grief you and that made it so fun. The community was so alive due to this interactions and it was hilarious everytime some drama went down.

I played Archeage during the beta, nearly a decade ago at this point, and I was in my teen years having pretty much stopped playing WoW during Mists of Pandaria. I was on a terrible laptop and I struggled to play Archeage at even 20 fps. And yet, it still sits heavy in my mind with nostalgia and what could have been. It was so incredibly good and yet it was just run into the ground. I was a teen with a laptop that could barely run the damned game and yet I still loved it to bits. I remember building my own tiny little house. I remember building a boat and going on my first voyage. I remember stealing someone else's crops. And I remember just stopping play, because it was just saturated with P2W bullshit. I'm one of those people who look back at Archeage and what could have been one of the greatest MMOs ever to grace us with its presence. And yet it was ruined. They struck gold, smelted it into a platter and served shit to us.

  • @dameonk
    @dameonk 2 роки тому +1

For me personally, the biggest issue was not being able to get a house because of the house placing bots. They were able to place a house before the UI even updated to say the land was available. This basically iced out everyone that had progressed to the point in the game where a large house was necessary to progress. The last straw was opening the cash shop to rare farm items, like the thunderstruck tree branch. This killed public farming overnight, making the game completely pointless to play.

I hated the labor system in ArcheAge. My favorite activity in the game was exploring and gathering whatever I found, chopping trees, mining stuff, gathering herbs, and so on. The problem was that once I ran out of labor I couldn't do that anymore. I'd switch over to killing mobs since at least that doesn't cost labor, but the chest things they dropped required labor to open as well. It felt like almost everything cost labor in the game, it was just a horrible design.

We were some pretty strong guilds and rarely had issues. I learned the other faction's language and was able to communicate with them in game and it opened up diplomacy. It was such a unique experience and for the duration of me playing we kept the peace and rarely had any problems outside of randoms that would come in and start trouble. Again we were strong guilds and squashed any problems quickly. To this day I have NEVER experienced something like that in any other mmo. (shout out to my Celestial homies)

I played archage from launch. I logged over 10k hours in the game. You wanna know what really killed it?
    The auroria patch.
Claiming a castle on the auroria patch would basically guarantee the guild that claimed it hundereds of thousands of gold/month in taxes from the people who would be placing land because there was literally no where else in the entire game to secure new protected land for yourself.
The only way to claim a castle was with a special trade pack that required extremely high skills and special equipment to craft. Gathering the resources for these packs took hundereds of players 8+ hours, you then had to portal back across the ocean, craft the pack, then travel by ship across the entire ocean with a convoy to protect you. Once landed you had to travel far inland walking slowly with 10s of other guild trying to kill you, you then had to channel a spell for 10 full minutes on s magical stone using the pack you crafted. While doing this, you had to rely on your guild to protect you from everyone else.
Devs were literally caught taking bribes in the 10s of thousands of dollars to secure castles for guilds by disconnecting enemy guild pack carries on their way to claim castles in auroria. Because of how full the servers were, if you got disconnected, you would basically be done with no hope of getting back in until the castles were all claimed. There were only 3 castles to claim.
After this all came out, there was a massive uproar, people were fired, and the community was pissed. However, there was no server rollbacks. Trion outright refused to rollback servers to give everyone a fair chance. Forest Crow, one of the most notorious whale guilds in the game was on my server. They managed to secure TWO castles that day by paying off devs, their sister org at the time, Sugoi, claimed the other.
To make up for not roling back servers, Trion decided the best course of action was to feed the wales even more. They added some of the rarest crafting materials in the game to the cash shop and patted themselves on the back.
10s of thousands of people quit the game after that. Within a few months, there was hardly anyone anywhere on any server. Today if you log in, you'll be lucky to find anyone around doing anything. It's basically just OSRS Ironman mode now which is really unfortunate because a massive portion of the game relies heavily on having large numbers of people to take down the insane world bosses and complete the epic quests in end game.

Seriously, I didn't even play a lot of Archeages content. But the fking FISHING was SOOO GOOOD
I literally was ONLY fishing for hours and hours every day. I loved the idea of fishing on a giant ocean with the risk of some other player stealing your boat. We even did fishing raids and if the other nation came there was a big pvp battle on the open sea and it was just awesome! The Idea that your boat or something else can be stolen (for a limited amount of time) by the enemy faction was just awesome. Never had so much fun doing stupid stuff (like fishing) in an mmo EVER.

Archeage during alpha and beta was so phenomenal. The biggest red flag was land claiming. All the beta and early access players got all the good pieces of land then it just became unfair for new players. Then the monetisation came afterwards and it got worse. This was so good. But it's such a shame

This was a game that I wanted to play ever since I watched Criken do a video on it over a decade ago. However, as I got into it, it had traded hands or something and became the most pay to play game ruined by monetization. I’m so sad that no game could match its systems to this day. I wish the company wasn’t so greedy, and that this game could exist how it originally did.

  • @MexicanTeTe

Best mmo ever, even with the terrible pay to win monetization. I was a fully free to play player and through a ridiculous amount of grinding I was able to keep up with the whales by buying my subscription through the in game auction house. So it wasn't impossible to keep up with pay to win players, just insanely more difficult. I don't think the subscription itself was unethical or overpriced, but rather the upgrade system for end game weapons was highly unethical because it functioned like you're gambling your materials to very rarely get the upgrade you want. Most people who had the tier of weapons needed to be relevant in end game pvp had to pay real money in order to get the materials they needed to gamble for a chance at upgrades to the next tier multiple times. That system ruined the game for me and I ended up quitting shortly after fully upgrading my weapon.

  • @Stronghart
    @Stronghart 21 день тому +1

1: A lot, almost all of the MMORPG out there are Pay 2 Win, Archeage didnt fail because of that.
2: Bot? Common man, if it was a huge problem we wouldn't have ANY online game since 1996. Trion did a decent job banning bot, myself could sent you a list of 40+ bots ive denounced on tickets and most of them were gone in 3~5 days (yes, 1 of these took a month to be banned and 2 videos to prove it was botting).
3: Labor aint a bottleneck for Gold grab, EVEN in Korea, Labor is just a system to force people that dont want to spend money to be wise, understand that the entry system to make money in the game was Pack, for and example, if you spent 50 labor to craft a pack, it could be traded for 4g or 20g depending on the route you're doing, and this same pack could value WAY more if you had guts to make dangerous routes, so you could like make this same pack that values 4g in a zone, worth almost 50g in another zone.
So what Korean did when they didnt wanted all this work? Buy labor potions and deliver 5x more packs to get the same outcome someone get doing the dangerous routes.
In western you didnt even had to buy labor for that, you could just make alt accounts and keep it Patron, so you could use the labor from theses accounts to increase the money income for a single account, and again, all of theses is just one of the ways to make money in the game, being wise, knowing what is the best places to invest you labor is always more lucrative than just doing "carebear" professions.
I will tell you another thing, the best money outcome in Archeage doesn't even have to spend labor, World Bosses drops would give 1 to 60 days worth of gold grind with their drops, a Red Dragon glider when I was playing in 2016 worth 45K golds, I could grind like 3k brute gold in my best days (around 10% of it was used just for taxes or material cost).
4: Fresh Start servers for how Archeage works is one of the problems that made the game fail. Finally on right point.
5: Banning someone that public shows how to to do a exploit isn't in my POV a bad thing, in the release of the game some people learnt a way do dupe APEX (like WoW Token, note: WoW Token became because of success APEX made, fyi). And some people thought that post videos on how to make that would be better than using ticket system to inform Trion about that, guess what, I'm one of the guys that informed Trion about it using Tickets and how to do that, what they did to me? They just removed the Duped APEX, didnt get any prize, but didn't get punishment either.
6: Anyone, ANYONE that played endgame in Archeage know that cities in Archeage just get crowded when its about to start any timed event you gonna just see a few people that are either seeking for Duel or Just Afk after getting a Hero Call, the rest of the time people gonna be in their House zone, doing whatever they need to do, or hauling packs around the world, or grinding mobs at Auroria, or Fishing.
    --
Now, let me know the thing the REALLY made Archeage fails, and this is pure and simple: FRUSTRATION, or a stupid bad implement RNG system.
Above i've said i had the means to get 3k gold day, for me to have this capacity took me almost a whole year of farming money to buy lands on one of the best zones in the game.
So lets says a good and wise player take a quarter of my time to get the same outcome.
When I was playing, the best Weapon a player could have was a Ayanad, this Weapon worth in the Grand or Rare grade, around 30k, that means 10 days of farming. But a grand Ayanad was almost the same power as the New Player set you received, so your damage would be as the same as someone who didnt spend any gold in the game, so what players wanted was Divine+ grade Ayanad, but that made the price up to 50k, so you needed around 18 days of farming.
Yes, know you have a decent damage for a initial endgame PvP, but the rest of your gear, , think about 15 days of farming plus 7 pieces of set, plus 4 Accessories, plus instrument, plus gliders, plus Lunagems, and Tempers. Now, think that for a player that want to be decent in the endgame (not a cannon, just someone that could have a few chances to make out alive of a single combo). It would take around 4 to 6 months of grinding, that means almost a year of playtime just to get at the entrance of endgame.
Pretty long, right? But you have a shorter way to do that, and that is: RNG, why buys a already made Divine Ayanad when I can simply make myself one? I mean, if I have luck i will just use around 800g in regrades tries to get myself a Divine, and around 12k to upgrade it from Basic weapon to Ayanad tier, so i can make in a quarter of the time, even on the worst situation i will can try to make 2 or 3 with a single day of gold farming...
Yes, but actually no, when i'm talking about Divine, i'm just saying the Grade its the Entry o grade for Endgame and for a regrade to proc from Celestial to divine is around 4% chance w/o regrade charms, 96% of chance to break or Downgrade. That means that for every Divine Ayanad you see being used on a server, around 25 broke or downgraded, that means that a for the majority of the players out there, they spend more money trying their luck getting of cheap, than if they just farmed the whole amount and brought it already done.
(Reminder: You cant actually get one already made in the game, you need a player to use the RNG system, get it by luck and selling it).
Oh, and this is ONE of the RNG's systems in the game:
Creating a Ayanad when i was playing weren't just upgrading a weapon to a stronger weapon or making it directly, you had to elevate the Weapon step by step, and you needed the right weapon suffix, but you could get 4~6 different suffix in your weapon, so to get a Ayanad weapon, on Grand or Rare gear, would mostly take a few dozens of crafted weapons too.
Then you had to place lunagems in the weapon/gear, but PvP oriented lunagems would cost Honor (that you would get doing things related to PvP in any extent) or would cost pretty high for the player crafted one (2K to 4k) and guess what, it was RNG too, so if one of them fails, you lose all the another ones you already had success attaching (a weapon could attach 7 gems and only the 1st one had 100% success chance, the 2nd one was already 50% chance).
Do you know a game that the best player know never got near close to have the best gear possible in the game? Archeage does, Ayanad exist since 2015, and even in 2024 no one ever achieved a Full mythic Ayanad gear (the best grade we could achieve in 2016)
Yep, they made a few "corrections" in the time being, made new set that could be upgraded mostly without any RNG, but again, placed new RNG system to make this sets belong to different world depending on the luck (or real money invested).
Most of the games out there, even being a F2P player, you can get a glimpse of the Endgame content most of the P2W players experience, Archeage you can also too, but depends on TOOOOOOO MUCH luck or too much work that most of the players simples get frustrated way before reaching the foot of that hill they could glimpse that Endgame. And thats why Archeage is sooo good for most of the player for the first month of the game than goes downhill when dominant players start getting their endgame gears.

You can actually get a gear in ArcheAge without using labor. Lazypeon doesn't play a lot in ArcheAge and his review is base in old version it is obsolete. He login just to watch the map and the player then log out. He doesn't know there is another zone in underworld and new dungeon that added. Even MMOByte said ArcheAge doesn't have a good mount. I guess youtuber that review this game is also a problem. Also Narc said in his review red dragon is instant only but he doesn't know there is new dragon in that zone. That dragon mount in ArcheAge you can get from black dragon and you have to put in the town to grow up. Every player can donate just to grow the dragon.

As someone who is really into the game I can tell a different story. The game has porblems for sure, especially the Labor and multi. acc system, but I cant fully agree with the shown video. The first video he made about the game was pretty weird, he talked about endgame content while he was ancestral lvl 18. I played on multiple fresh start servers and I can tell that u are atleast ancestral lvl 30 after a week or two. Also it seems to me that he didnt really experienced these issues by himself and rather just reads out different mainstream reviews. Some might say I'm biased cause I'm an ArcheAge Kakao Partner, but I experienced it way differently. The previous publishers made horrblie dicisions thats 100% true, but on the other hand Kakao did what the players asked for, ban gold buyers/sellers, bots and cheaters. After that people got mad about getting banned. Thats what I never understood. The game developed into a more enjoyable game, but it might be too late. I suggest you guys to try out the game and to experience the game by yourself. Also, start your journey on the normal "EVO" servers, because its a common trend that fresh start servers suffering with low popultaion after 3-6 months.
I hope you get my point, I'm open for feedback and pls let me know!

I was a guy who exposed a huge controversy with Trion and their coddling of whale cheaters. I wrote a major post on the official forum that got a ton of traction highlighting a whale player who inadvertently posted a screen shot which contained 3rd party programs GUI elements. I was banned from the forums and the stated reason was performing targeted harassment, so I took to reddit and made a large post there about the whale and his cheating. It got a bunch of negative press to the point where the Archeage community manager at the time asked to speak with me on the phone. She stated on the call that she understands why myself and many in the community were upset, but that their security team couldn't detect anything he was using so they couldn't do anything about it.
Obviously the fact that the player in question was known to have spent thousands of dollars in the cash shop was the reason they didn't want to ban him, even though he literally self-owned by accidently posting screen shots showing he had the hacks installed.
It's sad, but honestly, as stated in the video, it's clear that the publisher was greedy and didn't care about the game. So it shouldn't have been a surprise that you could get a free pass to hack the game openly and not get banned just as long as you were spending massive amounts of cash in the cash shop. Really sad.

Lazy Peon played Archeage when it was already alot less interesting than it was in it's early days. It was already kind of a dailyfest and trade runs (the heart of the game imo) were already restricted to a few trading hubs compared to how they were at launch. Also, the easiest way to get gear was not gold or crafting, but, you guessed it, more dailies. With each change they made the game less an adventure and more a boring routine.

loved the game but they 100% censored people who talked about bugs or exploits. People knew about the Apex Dup(Apex is like the WoW token) in alpha but whenever they said anything about it on the forums the thread would get deleted. And guess what, they never fixed it. From what I was told they did not want to put more money into the game so they never purchased any fixes from the developers. Archage was intended to be a cash grab from the very beginning which sucks because that game did have a lot of potential.

What makes me quit is because kakao let the player running the game with 3 client opens at the same time. So player with alts will have a HUGE advantage over casual players.
