No silver in the silver, no gold in the gold, but there is black in the black. Made me LOL :)
I like how companies continue to engineer and release alternatives to the Vanishing Point. But, I don't think they have beaten the time-tested design yet.
That Atlantic Blue looks like a great color ink
Narwhal has made some really attractive pens. I really don't know what they were thinking of, with this design. It's not a pen I'd be interested in, although the black pen is the best looking pen of the group. It looks a little bit like the Kaweco piston filler. At $99, it's too expensive to buy for the curiosity factor.
The pilot nibs work great in the eclipse. I have a pilot stub in mine.
Hi David. Thanks for this video. In terms of one-handed extension/retraction of the nib just place the bottom of the barrel on a table top and press down. Best wishes!
"... However the models with black in the name do contain black."
I love the dry humor!
I like the unique look and functioning. I have, after some practice, gotten comfortable with one handed operation. The line of the medium nib is too fine for me. Hope they do offer a broad. My Vanishing Point and Majohn A1 nibs also work in the Eclipse. Don’t need a collection but would rebuy if necessary.
You can push the back section of the pen down on the desk (Pro Rathbun). I’ve ordered an Iridium Eclipse.
All gold model is the best looking to me. I like that these are thicker than a pilot VP or decimo. it's also nice that a Pilot nib can work in these as well!
Im glad to see more and more retractable nib alternatives coming out to compete with the vanishing point especially when there weren't really that many alternatives maybe 5 years ago.
Now if only we could get an adjustable nib competitor similar to the (Pilot) Justus or the (Eversharp) Doric....
An excellent review of a unique pen.
Even though they say not to use cartridges, that is only because they don't ship a cover for the cartridge like the Vanishing Point and A1 come with. Doug at Inkquiring Minds did show, if you have a cartridge guard from Pilot or Majohn, you can use cartridges fone. The Pilot cartridges and the Con-40 do fit a little looser than the included converter, but don't leak.
Thank you David for this thorough review. I am one of those people who do not enjoy the clip position on the Vanishing Point. That you can remove the clip is a bonus. But, as you mentioned the facets could also be annoying and I would be fumbling with my grip and may end up with not being able to use the pen properly with the nib not being at the proper angle. I think I will stick with my MaJohn A1 that has a roll stop.
Thank you so much! I have to say I really like the measurments music. I have two Luvina's (in case something happened to one of them-I love that pen!) I have a Schuylkill Cichlid, and my clear demonstrator Original will be here Friday. All within about three weeks! lol
Great video! I got mine (Pure Silver) in a medium. I think it is a pretty good pen. I've perfected deploying the nib with one hand. You are right about it being a little different grip to do so. I was amazed at how well it did reverse writing. Though, the clip gets in the way if you don't take it off.
I'm glad to see a proper review of this model to give me a better sense of it. I'm still on the fence, but also in no rush. If only a brick-and-mortar store in my country stocked it so I could get a better feel for how it would work in my use case. I saw someone comment on a method of using the desk or surface to pop the nib out one-handed, that's at least one doubt (slightly)reduced. Much appreciated!
I may have to try out the black and gold. It looks sharp and I'm intrigued by the novel "click" action. I don't have a conventional grip and am left-handed so I always hesitate when purchasing something like this as I never know if it will actually work for me.
Without the clip it reminds of Doctor Who's screwdriver.
Seems to be a creative and interesting design. I like it!
Hi David. What if you hold the pen at the clip, and then push the back against a flat surface (say a desk) to retract and extend the nib? Thanks for another interesting video.
I found my medium nib was dry and tended to the fine (like yours). With a little bit of work, I improved the flow a bit. Thanks for the review.
I'm having a lot of trouble with very hard starts on mine - what kind of work did you do to help fix it?
@@rustonthompson9317 Flossing and VERY Careful slight spreading of the tines. Note that hard starts may be a separate problem. The 1st thing to try is completely cleaning out the nib unit. Maybe with pen flush.
I appreciate the innovation and novelty, but the pen doesn’t comfortable to hold and I’m not sure I care fore the retro-futturistic rocket look. I’ll bed interested to see if Nahvalur evolves this pen going forward.
looks pretty good tho
The clip is not aligned on the silver but others are. I'm not sure it is as smooth as the vanishing point.
@@phillipmillman3290 it was only because I had been taking off and on. You can align it anyway you choose.
How hard is the nib? More like the steel nibs in the mahjongs? Or does it have some flex like the pilot vp nibs?
@guhster The stainless steel nib is more firm. Not as flexible as the gold VP nib.
I do like Nahvalur and have used a Nautilus for quite a while. Sadly this one doesn't float my boat. Firstly I'd immediately remove the clip and throw it away. The tiny nib just peeks out embarrassingly and having the whole barrel 'converted' into a nib extender/retractor seems like a lot of effort for a questionable operation.
Tried one of these this past weekend at the Orlando pen show. The nib was great, but the pen itself was stupid. Way too many sharp edges and pinch points for a writing instrument. Also, you can't actuate the mechanism one handed...stupid (you can actually actuate it one handed, but its very painful)
This pen is an abomination. It looks like a joke--poorly engineered and an absolutely ridiculous design.
a ripoff of the vanishing point, except they also made it hard to click. disgusting.
And HUGE and hideous.
