Glad to see you guys getting around to Ningen Isu.
They have a lot of literary references in their songs, especially from Supernatural and Horror genres.
The band name means "The Human Chair".
It's from a short story by the Japanese writer Edogawa Rampo (Tarō Hirai).
That pen name is based on the American writer Edgar Allan Poe.
Their first tour outside of Japan will hit Berlin, Bochum and London in February 2020.
They often cite Black Sabbath as their main influence. In fact, the singer/lead guitar player has an autographed Tony Iommi Gibson SG.
There was Ningen Isu way before One OK Rock, Baby Metal and Band Maid.
They have been playing for almost 30 years and haven’t changed a bit. They have always been true to their music, and they will sure be the same.
Black Sabbath is still alive in Japan.

Yeah, Japanese doom metal. These guys are celebrating their 30 year career. They will be touring for the first time outside Japan early next year. Their catalog consists of 20 plus album and have a new one set to be released this year. The guitarist have been friends since high school. The drummer is their third I believe.
Not quite Spinal Tap level with the drummer turnover, but getting there. : )

NINGEN ISU was formed in 1987. The band goes from prog rock to Heavy Metal to the best Doom Metal. Shinji Wajima aka Wazzy, guitarist (the Meiji Master) was born in 1965, bassist Ken-ichi Suzuki aka Suzuken (the haunting monk) was born in 1966 and Nobu Nakajima aka Nobu, drummer (the Yakuza member) in 1966. The band was formed in 1987, when Wazzy and Susuken met as costumers in the same rock bar. Nobu replaced the 1st drummer. THEY'RE AWESOME! FINALLY COLLECTING INTERNACIONAL FAME. Lyrics are often based in Mitical subjects, internal emotional conflicts, Gothic Horror Literature as they all love Edgar Allan Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, Bram Stocker, Ranpo, etc. Musically they're a mix of Black Sabbath, Dio, Mastodon, Led Zeppelin and Rush.
This song remembers me at Black Sabath War Pigs. They are one of my fav Bands. It's always amazing how they sound with just one Guitar, Bass and Drums. Hope i can see them live some time.
The Colour Out Of Space is my favourite tune of theirs.

I agree with your first point (like a lot of people, LostInMPK is saying 'gen' like you would 'generation', instead of like the name 'Ken'), but surely saying "i-su" is perfectly acceptable? I wouldn't bat an eye at someone saying it like that, at least, and I've been Japaneezing for ages.
@@radicalstanza3614, except the band themselves drop the trailing 'u'. There's a video out there, maybe on their channel.
@@johnschultz7765 I mean, they're Japanese, so they're used to swallowing their u's, but 'isu' is an extremely common word that, in my experience, sounds fine with a hint of 'u' left in it. I'll defer to you if you're a linguist, high-level JLPT-taker, etc.; my opinion is an entirely unprofessional one.
@@radicalstanza3614, I referred to my source (rather than claiming expertise) if lacking some specificity. And I have had it explained to me there is a trace of that trailing 'u' to the ear of a native speaker by someone who is Japanese. But my Yankee ears mostly don't hear it. My comments are worth what you paid for them. Was just saying.
@@johnschultz7765 If you UA-cam search "how to say isu in Japanese" (there are two videos near the top of the results saying it) and try to listen for the word in whatever videos show up here when you search for "いす", I'm sure you'd agree that saying the word (chair) basically how it's spelled is fairly common, even for the Japanese speakers in those videos. You certainly can (basically) make the 'u' in 'su' into 'ss~' (something a la "ss~mow" instead of "sumo", for example), but "neen-gen e-sue" works, too. (This is super duper not a big deal or important in any way, but yeah. Wasn't trying to big league you with my unimpressive Japanese 'credentials' or anything -- just was curious if there was something unique about the 'su' in 'isu')
