www.hopsmetalshow.com/ decided to review this live performance of this song and band hope you enjoy the show as we discuss what we thought of this Band and song .
Ningen Isu is wonderful. A band influenced by literature, poetry and popular culture, very critical and enlightened. I'm part of the chorus of those who say, "Man, why haven't I met this band since the '80s?" Long live #NingenIsu !
The band name rings the bell. I think they were more like cult popular kind of band in Japan. Metal wasn't really big when they came out. Their kind of music was never mainstream. But they are great. I was shocked in a good way.
Fellows, I’ve lived in Japan for 20 years and been into Japanese rock for 25 years and I only heard of this band in September 2019! Now I have all their albums including the live albums and comps. Their sound has changed but they’ve always kept heavy roots. You want to see an older video? Just a moment. Coming up!
A lot of people have the following reaction to NI: "Why am I just hearing about this now? This is the greatest band I've never heard of :)" They really are great, either live or studio, although for me the studio is a bit better because they get to put their best foot forward and be the best artists they can be. Quite a few requests have already been put in here, more undoubtedly coming. After all these years playing small clubs in one area of Japan and holding day jobs, they are about to start a tour in EU, probably coming to North America too. They deserve this, I hope they knock it out of the park! Some of their influences are indeed Black Sabbath, and a lot of the earlier heavy bands like Budgie, Captain Beyond and others that are now rather obscure. Thanks for pulling these guys up.
Sadly metal is just gaining momentum in Japan. They've been grinding with little hope for 28 years, until the YT algorithm brought them to our attention. That's part of the reason I like them.
Cool you did Ningen Isu finally!! Yes, this is new song. They make music for long time (and very consistant!) but they still had different jobs too as far I now. Just now they stopped working and concentrate all on music and with this single they made international success! Now they come to Europe I am so happy to see them live. The bassist and guitarist/vocalist started the band. They are friends since school. The bassist studied buddism (this is why he is dressed like a monk often) and the singer studied russian literature. He is dressed like literary master here. The drummer is dressed like a gangster. This live was from a life stream they did for their (foreign)fans on UA-cam last year. Most their songs have reference from literature. Please listen to Lover's Suicide in Shinagawa. Or for more early Tony gamble suggested Ghost Train, that is a good song too. All their albums are very good. They do not have single bad album really. Another band I would love for you to look into is a Rock Band called Luna Sea. They are huge in Japan. One of the fan favourite songs is Rosier. Live always best of course ^-^
Ningen Isu is unique: the band goes from Prog and Hard Rock to Heavy Metal/Doom Metal. They use a lot of Edgar Allan Poe, H.P. Lovercraft, Buddhism, Humor, Eroticism, History in the lyrics. The bassist Suzuki is a haunting monk probably from the underworld (white colour in Japanese culture, specially a very white face or person symbolizes death, ghosts, the supernatural). The guitar player/vocalist Wajima is a Meijei Master (a professor that taught many subjects includying Martial Arts) and the drummer Nakajima is a Yakuza member as they use to wear in a 70's style.
They are playing in Europe this weekend for the first time outside Japan in their entire career. They played at an Ozzfest in Japan some time ago. They announced a US date coming up in the next couple of months. ua-cam.com/video/4FJeCKkzCKI/v-deo.html They are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year. I don't how popular they are in Japan, but have experienced a lot of new found exposure like many Japanese bands have because of this platform. They seem to be well grounded and funny guys. Each of them have uploaded a reaction video to this very song.
I guess they are like "Japanese version of Anvil." They are famous first couple of years, then forgotten for almost 30 years. Heartless Scat reminds me they are still rock'n and I'm so grad of that.
Saw them live last night in London - superb. I don't know if they have played here before but there were people in the gig who had taken a plane to be there so I guess it's a rare event. Hope they do it again soon.
This European Tour ( 19. Berlin, 20. Bochum, 21. London ) was the first one abroad after 30 years !! They are pretty unknown here in Germany so the venue "Zeche" was not sold out, but that didn´t matter. It was an awesome concert, the audience and the band pushed each other, so it became a great experience for all. ua-cam.com/video/8adZp4v07xo/v-deo.html this is "Heartless Scat" as a fancam version from Bochum. Some fans flew to London the next day.
I've watched a few of their videos already they popped up on my might like... Their sounds are unique...Hu is another band that pops up a good bit also...They (Hu) is a Mongolian folk Metal bad the use throat singing we might have done them also if I remember correctly...
If you want to hear some of their early stuff check out Ghost Train video. I really love these guys, they know how to rock. I have a suggestion for a request, I was going to post it on the Facebook page but would like for you to react to it. Rammstein ( Live from Madison Square Garden) Engel- which translates to Angel. Hell of a song and the show for this one is unreal. I know they are touring America this year and bet your ass i'll be going. Just look for a an old dude with a long beard that's headbanged almost all of his hair off LOL
Hell's Mountain Of Needles - live 1996 (cover of Bungie "Breadfan" with rewritten lyrics) - Totally over the top version with second drumer - ua-cam.com/video/lZD9QVYK9Cg/v-deo.html
The earliest video of theirs that I've found is a live cover of Budgie's Breadfan. Same song Metallica covered on Garage Inc. Lyrics are changed to Japanese of course, and it was renamed "Spiny Mountain in Hell". I think that this was done in 1989. ua-cam.com/video/KNxfQGvtmBE/v-deo.html You'll notice that bassist Ken-ichi Suzuki had a different persona back then lol. Some cartoon character I believe. They worked regular jobs and had a full on metal career on the side, until the last few years. Their popularity in Japan has grown, but it's pretty limited. Making a fortune playing metal in Japan isn't the best career choice lol. The music vid for this song rode a You Tube algorithm into world wide fame last year, and after 30 some years, they are going to tour outside Japan. Germany and Britain pretty soon, and they will play in the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Tx in March. They have some great songs to check out. One of my personal favorites is Namahage. This live version is good quality. ua-cam.com/video/rUvKusi05MA/v-deo.html By the way, a Namahage is a demon ogre (Oni) that comes visiting towns on New Years to take away naughty children and crybabies. Some towns still have locals dress up to scare the children into behaving. They are almost exactly like Krampus in the German tradition. Fun stuff.
easy way Neen ghen esu The guy with the white face paint is dressed like a monk representing life and death the main singer is dressed up like a lord in the edo period ( if i remember correctly ) and the drummer is dressed up as a Yakuza
I do get the Sabbath reference, these guys are somewhere on the stoner rock/doom metal spectrum but a lot of their riffs sound more like Soundgarden riffs to me.
Hey dudes, been watching the channel for a while now, been watching each and every video you've been putting out and finding out about some dope new bands that weren't on my radar. I'm in a small unsigned metal band, we are putting out an album in a couple of months. Any chance I could send you a link to check it out? Cheers dudes, keep up the good work!
AlexCBain absolutely keep in touch and let us know when your album is ready to check out. We are always down to check out new jams! Also thanks for being a loyal fan of our channel. That means a lot to us! 🤘🏻🤨🤘🏻

Yeah, Ningen Isu (人間椅子)!!
For more than 30 years, they haven’t changed a bit!!
Always been true to their music, and they will always be.

Hard time for years, but they are huge now for sure. They're on tv often.
Massive sound from three masters.
