Having something done on a scar hurts no more than on clear skin, unless the scar is somewhat new. Besides that, the only pain is hypothetical. It's all in your head, I suppose. It may make you a bit queasy, and quite uncomfortable depending on why the scar is there, and if you get physical flashbacks or not. But apart from that, it's no better, nor worse. :) ♡

I would not want to get my self-harm scars covered. I need them as a reminder to myself that I had been through the hardest parts of life and made it out of that when I thought suicide was the only option. And having these scars will remind me I can get through whatever lies ahead. And if someone can't accept my scars then I can't accept them, because my scars are beautiful to me.

Shakira Ryan there is meaning behind that zipper tattoo as well. The scar is from having brain surgery for Chiari Malformation. We use the term zipperhead often for ourselves since many will need the surgery a few times. So the zipper at the base of the scar has become a sign of awareness and pride in our battle againest chiari, without covering our winning battle scar. Ill be getting my zipper head tattoo in november for my scar 😄

My friends have scars one of them has a scar running down her leg from her thigh to her shin. She no longer has a bone, but instead has a titanium rod. 3-4 years ago she had cancer. She won the battle and lives with this scar. She hates it, but I love it. She limps along with it. I think that the scar makes her who she is. It makes her a survivor. My other friend got into a jet ski accident, she now has a scar on her face. She got hit and was bleeding terribly, she broke her jaw, but is better now. Both of my friends hate their scars, but I love them.

what you said about attention. sometimes its coz they want someone to care and aknowledge there's a problem. sometimes its to show people what people gave don't to them. I used to self harm. I usually only told 2 people but sometimes I'd roll my sleeves down in class hoping someone would notice and say something. I felt alone and I was desperate for someone to Care. however not all people who show people are like this. some people are really horrible about it and only do it because it makes then look 'edgy' or 'cool'

as a doctor of many years standing i would never recoment tattooing a scar. scar tissue is made of collagen and behaves in a different manner to skin and can reopen and become infected it is also the site of an injury

As a tattoo artist, I can tell you that you can safely cover a scar with a tattoo. But that requires some stricts elements. The scar must be a least 5 years old (the skin must have usually fully recover at the time) and you must have seen a doctor. Only he can tell if the skin is healthy enough to apply a tattoo on it. So I would highly suggest everyone who wants to get tattooed on a scar to go to a dermatologist first. :) Plus don't forget a needle for tattoo only go about 1 to 4 milimeters deep in the skin. So... Yeah. Tattoing scars is quite difficult though so always be careful with your skin n' body 👌

Not all scars can safely be tattooed. Especially if the skin texture is rather rough the scar might not be safely coverable. Scarred skin might also react radically differently to getting tattooed than normal skin. The tattoo is basically a new injury and some scarred skin might be unable to heal from it like normal skin would. Please make sure you ask a serious, high quality tattoo artist about your tattoo wishes. Consult a dermatologist when in doubt. Being cheap and careless about this might just get you an even uglier scar in the end, or worst case some never healing wound.

My childhood best friend got into an accident when she was 5 and her left thigh got injured she had to get stitches...her scar is so big that it cover like more than half of her thigh..when i first saw it i literally cried because my friend had to go through that pain...she was actually really sad about the scar but now she is 16 she says it's fine to have a scar atleast i survived that day..my best friend is stronger than anyone i know❤

I self harmed when I was 13-14 and later on recovered and never self harmed again. I’m 17 now and don’t pity or feel sorry for people who self harm and just try to understand us with time and patience and not with anger and not frustration because family and friends just get driven away and just check in on us now and then but not constantly because we want to feel normal and relaxed to those who have and will recover because. If I have recovered and battled through it and still are battling through it so can you and you have all your life ahead of you and never give up. Love, resilience and patience💕❤️👍

Some people may feel insecure about showing the whole world what theyve done to themselves and therefore cover up . But others may want a tattoo to remind them of what made them want to recover and to oull through . Maybe a symbol or character representing someone or something . That , and it may be to start a conversation . People may feel uncomfortable asking why they harmed themselves . It's more casual to ask why they got a tatto and start a conversation off of that .

Same thing goes with when people think their hair looks bad or they gained weight, people usually don't see this, but some people think that's all what people around them can see. They might think people stare at their arm when they show it, might not be true, might be true, but having them stare at a scar is a lot harder to handle then thinking they're staring at your tattoo.
Actually, almost the whole arm in the photo is covered, and he/she probably just wanted to make sure that the art covered all of their self harm scars, they didn’t want to be reminded of them.

You can get still get tattoos. I know alot of people that have keloid prone skin that have tattoos. You just have to get one that is lightly done

what you said about attention. sometimes its coz they want someone to care and aknowledge there's a problem. sometimes its to show people what people gave don't to them. I used to self harm. I usually only told 2 people but sometimes I'd roll my sleeves down in class hoping someone would notice and say something. I felt alone and I was desperate for someone to Care.
however not all people who show people are like this. some people are really horrible about it and only do it because it makes then look 'edgy' or 'cool'

I have 24 surgery scars all over my legs plus 1 on my hand and lower back I've always liked the idea of getting a tattoo done to cover them up as a sort of empowerment. as a doctor of many years standing i would never recoment tattooing a scar. scar tissue is made of collagen and behaves in a different manner to skin and can reopen and become infected it is also the site of an injury

As a tattoo artist, I can tell you that you can safely cover a scar with a tattoo. But that requires some stricts elements.
The scar must be a least 5 years old (the skin must have usually fully recover at the time) and you must have seen a doctor. Only he can tell if the skin is healthy enough to apply a tattoo on it. So I would highly suggest everyone who wants to get tattooed on a scar to go to a dermatologist first. :)
Plus don't forget a needle for tattoo only go about 1 to 4 milimeters deep in the skin. So... Yeah. Tattoing scars is quite difficult though so always be careful with your skin n' body 👌

Not all scars can safely be tattooed. Especially if the skin texture is rather rough the scar might not be safely coverable. Scarred skin might also react radically differently to getting tattooed than normal skin. The tattoo is basically a new injury and some scarred skin might be unable to heal from it like normal skin would. Please make sure you ask a serious, high quality tattoo artist about your tattoo wishes. Consult a dermatologist when in doubt. Being cheap and careless about this might just get you an even uglier scar in the end, or worst case some never healing wound.

My childhood best friend got into an accident when she was 5 and her left thigh got injured she had to get stitches...her scar is so big that it cover like more than half of her thigh..when i first saw it i literally cried because my friend had to go through that pain...she was actually really sad about the scar but now she is 16 she says it's fine to have a scar atleast i survived that day..my best friend is stronger than anyone i know❤

I self harmed when I was 13-14 and later on recovered and never self harmed again. I’m 17 now and don’t pity or feel sorry for people who self harm and just try to understand us with time and patience and not with anger and not frustration because family and friends just get driven away and just check in on us now and then but not constantly because we want to feel normal and relaxed to those who have and will recover because. If I have recovered and battled through it and still are battling through it so can you and you have all your life ahead of you and never give up. Love, resilience and patience💕❤️👍

I’ve got a lot of self harm scars that I’m ashamed and embarrassed about. I love that they show how far I’ve come but they also remind me of how much pain I was in and I’ve been looking for ideas because I’m getting a sleeve to cover up the ones on my arm and I’m copying that hedgehog for the ones on my thigh for my 18th (a few months away) and seeing this video gave me lots of inspiration and it was nice that it wasn’t taboo because it was self harm, so thank you!

Some people may feel insecure about showing the whole world what theyve done to themselves and therefore cover up . But others may want a tattoo to remind them of what made them want to recover and to oull through . Maybe a symbol or character representing someone or something . That , and it may be to start a conversation . People may feel uncomfortable asking why they harmed themselves . It's more casual to ask why they got a tatto and start a conversation off of that .
And lastly , self harm inst something to be proud of . Getting better , recovering is .

If you're too young for a tattoo,you're too young for self harm. Trust me,my sister used to cut her wrists all the time, and one time she told me that if she could take anything back, it'd be that. Please don't self harm, because eventually things will get better. There is always a positive outcome for any situation, you just need to be strong and find the right path. If you find that path, I can promise you will lead a happy and joyous life. ♡

Cause when she was 16 her and her brother my uncle went Camping mi uncle got drunk and locked da tent my mother was a sleep in and den set it on fire she only survived because my uncles girlfriend was dare alwell and threw lots of water over the tent and unlocked it so she could get out

Same thing goes with when people think their hair looks bad or they gained weight, people usually don't see this, but some people think that's all what people around them can see. They might think people stare at their arm when they show it, might not be true, might be true, but having them stare at a scar is a lot harder to handle then thinking they're staring at your tattoo.
Actually, almost the whole arm in the photo is covered, and he/she probably just wanted to make sure that the art covered all of their self harm scars, they didn’t want to be reminded of them.
