    Great work. I used to hold the thread wires with putty or plastasine when checking thread size.

      I think I got pretty good at it. The tricky part is the large mic. Sometimes I'll just use some grease .

    Measuring thread flank diameter with the 3-wire-method (thread gauges, thread cutting tools, precision threaded spindles, ...):
    During my years on universal thread grinding machines in the Pre-CNC-Era (GUS Lindner, Kellenberger and some sowjet models) I made good experience with thread measuring wires in holders and thread flanks mikrometers.
    To make things easier (great OD) you can fix thread measuring rolls with plasticine.

      I usually just use little bit of grease and the wires stick really nicely. It's the diameter and large micrometer that makes it difficult and just having two hands.

      I know, I know ... the problems with such diameters (and dimensions), large micrometers and calipers and the lack of a third hand 🤔.)
      4 weeks ago I mentioned that I have 3 month of experience on a facing lathe Ravensburg and one year on a vertical lathe Froriep KE 14 Super (and a lot of other machines).
      With a Universal Comparator Gauge (dial gauge and gauge blocks) life becomes easyer and measurements more accurate (IMHO).

      @@ChrisMaj what kind of tolerance range does a thread like this get held to? I know a class 3 on most smaller threads is about a .003" range

    Nice job. I was wondering how you were going to check the internal threads. The same way I use to. Make your own gage by measuring it over wires.

    I really like those Iscar threading inserts. I think you can also put a round or square grooving tool in that holder.

    Do you have some way of realigning your tools every time, or do you have to find their position each time you take one out and put another in?

      It's a nut for tail stock/ head stock, whatever that means. Yeah it's all done and out the door. It's my week off to spend some time with the kids. Probably no video next week.

    That looked like some wicked scarf coming off those threads. And using those thread wires look like they could cause some serious cussing at the end of a long shift

    Question about the threading, it seems you plunge rigth in for each pass. Any reason you are not using 29 degree pnluge to make only one side of the insert cut? I usually do that on smaller thread sizes, but havent threaded this big yet, so just wondering.

      This is a cnc lathe, you can choose how you want to do it. In the video I'm using what's called zig zag threading. What it means is that you are using both sides of your insert.

      That's probably the only 60° threading tool I use. With one insert you can do fine threads and something like I did in the video, 4 TPI

    Un threads usually have a . 0004 tolerance for gauges, would be nice to see that with your wires

      16.750" x 4 TPI 0.0004" tolerance? You're not serious. If I remember correctly there is like 0.011" tolerance.

    125 surface finish but hold .002 on 11" diameter....lord...
