It's not a huge battery for a vehicle that has the same aerodynamics and drag coefficient as a Rivian R1S truck lol. This car is as tall as an Escalade. 91KWH gross battery is small It's like fitting a 13 gallon Honda Civic fuel tank to a pilot. That thing will be lucky to do 250 miles lol. Big cars need more energy storage space. This car should have came with 100kwh minimum
The battery is the same size as the much smaller Q6 Etron, the electric Q5. And VAG EVs are notorius for their piss-poor efficiency to begin with. It'll get access to the Tesla Supercharger's soon and the charging speed won't get nerfed as much as the 800V Kia/Hyundai EVs.
The only vehicle that achieves your arbitrary requirement of 370mi on a 100kwh range is Tesla's and that is on paper only. This thing is not as aerodynamic as a sedan body shape it is going to take a hit in range.
I just graduated uni last week, so I don’t know if I count, but I adore this vehicle. Waaaaay out of my price range, and I also have no need for a whole van lol. But its vibe is immaculate.

Absolutely love your channel and this car! Please don't perpetuate the myth about EV batteries though. That's what big oil wants you to think (fear) as it pushes it's propaganda. Car batteries are not like your laptop or phone. The battery management systems doing a great job of looking after the cells. And we've come a long way from the original Nissan Leaf.
The battery replacement 60K bill I know about was from road debris, not wearing out. A nearly new EV was written off because it got a dent on underside. BMS can't stop that issue.
@@netcruzer The underside if the battery pack is super strong, it is actually part of the crash structure. And in VW IDs your can swap individual modules. But I have never heard of a case where that was necessary.

I’m 21 I love the look of the id buzz. I wasn’t alive back when the original Volkswagen bus was a thing but every time I see one I’m like that’s sick. I think they killed it with the design and infotainment and steering wheel aside. If I had to have a minivan I’d make the sacrifices to drive it against the rest of the competition.
30% inflation on cars, perhaps in Canada. I bought a G7 GTI and the G8 is 100% over the G7 price. I'm not sure what's going on in the car industry, but something is not right. Other than the software and the capacitive buttons, the Buzz kinda looks cool. While I was initially hot on electric vehicles, realism caught up to me, and I don't think we're ready for it, so I'm going to be an oil burner for the next decade at least.
Hey guys, I really enjoy your videos. Well done, and always fun. Looks like a fun vehicle, and love the updated retro thing. Yea, older guy here, so can't separate myself from that. That price tho! Yilkes! I think they missed a key point of the OG VW bus. It was very affordable at the time.
@@verynick The Kia Carnival V6 FWD has 418 miles of range. As for hybrids, they aren't making enough for them to be affordable. Drive in a rich neighborhood and all you see are german SUVs and Siennas. The only people that can afford this have a 2+ car garage with a Q7 for those out-of-state soccer championships and have this as a novelty. Or an Etron with far better range and charging tech.
I LOVE the fact that EV can make an already super practical vehicle even more practical. All the cab, no need for transmission, engine, driveshafts while still delivering AWD.... but the price and range. yeah I think the Yota approach to hybridization and electric rear motors are going to be most applicable path for a long time.

@82ironwill82 definitely, I think it's far better looking than a model Y. I think it will age very gracefully. I watch a lot of different Automotive journalists and most of them which I generally agree with dislike The Styling. Which is so strange🤔
I've only heard bad things about the ID 4 personally. There is one in my area with a bad DRL already that would probably cost 1000 bucks or more to fix. Didn't give me much confidence in its long term quality. Sat in the current Tiguan and that also put doubts in my confidence about current VWs. But good luck
@@baronvonjo1929 interesting I’ve never seen a bad DRL, however 90% of Honda Accords 2016 and 2017 has bad DRL’s, and so many model 3’s and model Y, and S’s. Bad DRL is a minor problem. The problems I hear about are people that dislike the infotainment , which is not necessarily a problem. It’s a learning curve…. Every model 3 I have driven and Polestar 2 has incurred black screens which I have to reset, as well as malfunctioning rear cameras and other issues.. and both of them had noisy drive units.
As a senior whose in-laws are still alive, I would love the AWD version even if the storage is a little to small for my specific needs but that price is beyond stupid. Especially since we would need to build a garage for any EV we buy (we live in Winnipeg and an EV loses too much charge in the winter what with the -35C) so any new EV has and extra 60-75k added on to the price by necessity.
Please stop telling people that an electric car's high voltage battery will "eventually" need to be replaced - the battery will more than likely outlive the car. Plenty of studies out there have the data to back it up. Batteries today don't eventually "die" from use, they just loose range over time, but you won't need to spend $50k or whatever to replace it. That news article you flashed up was for a damaged battery, not an "old" one. And charging to 100% on a DCFC is a waste of time - stop at 80%. Other than that, love the review!
Im with Striaghtpipes on this one. Plenty of 20 year old ICE cars on the road. Its questionable how many EVs, especially current generation, EVs will stay on the road. It all depends on how much their used and environment I guess.
@@baronvonjo1929 Really? In good running order? I had an '97 Acura Integra, made in Japan, and by year 18 it was falling apart and I scrapped it. Anyone driving around in a 20 year old ICE is asking to left stranded by the side of the road at some point. EVs will easily last 10+ years, and in my case I'll have 300,000+ km on it and it will have lived a good life.
@@TheStraightPipes 😮 The Leaf & i-MiEV use tiny Air-cooled NiMh and LTO batteries respectively. Completely different technology. Absolutely nobody is paying $60k to replace their battery. Nobody. I'm a music student so most of my peers are not car people, some don't even drive, but they would take one look at this and would be in love. Hell, my mom would love it. It would be kinda useless for us though... my family lives in a small town 400+ kms from the proper big metro area so road trips in this thing would absolutely suck. Western canada just doesn't have the charging infrastructure yet.
Hilariously appropriate Grateful Dead start 420 style. But I'm seriously glad you guys really like it! It seems really cool and unique. Now if they could only get this out and start selling them! This companies stock has been a nightmare to own and as Yuri mentioned needs saved.
Guys it’s 2024. You have to stop quoting battery replacement costs from the middle of the pandemic. Ev batteries do not need to be replaced like a laptop battery because they are far more advanced. You guys still don’t know anything about charging which is great that you just didn’t really mention it. Please either educate yourself on the topics or don’t mention it. There is no reason to spread false information.
the only reason they don't need to get replaced as often is because they're just bigger and have more cells. They're not "more advanced" in any way. Please either educate yourself on the topics or don’t mention it. There is no reason to spread false information.
@@SatongiFilms Of course car batteries are more advanced. they have active heating/cooling, complex battery management systems, etc. Laptop batteries do not have active heating/cooling.
@@SatongiFilms Laptops also don't regulate charge/discharge amounts (some can, but not by default). Just restricting charge to a max of 85% (ish) massively extends the life of the battery.
This happened just last year because the under shield of a Hyundai Ioniq battery got a dent in it. They WROTE OFF THE CAR because new EV battery replacements are really that expensive currently.
The CHEAPEST one is still $60kUSD? I actually really like what they've done with this car/van/bus thing, but there are 20 other cars I'd rather buy at that price point.
This is called VW Multivan...but the ID Buzz is a pure electric platform...no room for an ICE at all. The short Version in Europe is only 4.71m and has the same cargospace to the front seats like the 4,97m Multivan (ICE needs a lot of space)...this is the advantage of a distinct EV platform. Length is no issue in US/Canada, but if you have ever driven in a ancient city center in Europe...you will understand... Why should it not last? Battery has a warranty for 160k km upto at least 80%...if it would really fail in this distance, you will get a new one for free...but this will not happen anyway.
Great video, but the battery comment was a misinformed low blow. Your own backyard is averaging 11-12 years for recent vehicle longevity. VW has a 160k KM / 8 year battery warranty in Canada. And as you all are well aware (at least I'd hope from respected auto reviewers) heat is the number 1 contributing factor to accelerated battery degradation. Battery thermal management systems are critical to longevity, a system early EVs didn't have. Imagine charging your phone in direct sunlight on a 30C + day on the asphalt.
Awesome The Dead Logo on one side and a picture of Zippy The Pin Head on the other side. Or the Uncle Sam US Bongs Logo on the back door!!! Guess how old I am if I’m strutting those pieces of art??? Great Video Thank You 🙏
Love y'all! But you're both heavily misinformed on EV battery replacements. Yes an entire battery is expensive, however you realistically just replace underperforming/dead cells within the entire battery pack (much, much less expensive)

Huge battery, low range. Companies still not understanding BMS efficiencies.
They understand bs efficiencies.
It's not a huge battery for a vehicle that has the same aerodynamics and drag coefficient as a Rivian R1S truck lol. This car is as tall as an Escalade. 91KWH gross battery is small
It's like fitting a 13 gallon Honda Civic fuel tank to a pilot. That thing will be lucky to do 250 miles lol. Big cars need more energy storage space. This car should have came with 100kwh minimum
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 it's a massive battery for the range they are getting out of it. With a 100kkwh we should expect 370+ miles.

30% inflation on cars, perhaps in Canada. I bought a G7 GTI and the G8 is 100% over the G7 price. I'm not sure what's going on in the car industry, but something is not right.
First Gen Leaf and iMiev owners will likely disagree with that

There are nicer ways to say the same thing and get your point across.
the only reason they don't need to get replaced as often is because they're just bigger and have more cells. They're not "more advanced" in any way. Please either educate yourself on the topics or don’t mention it. There is no reason to spread false information.
@@SatongiFilms Of course car batteries are more advanced. they have active heating/cooling, complex battery management systems, etc. Laptop batteries do not have active heating/cooling.

silver lining...a used on in a few years with 50k miles will be 10k
19:31 Name That Tune: my guess is “Enjoy the Silence” by Depeche Mode released in 1990.
You’re correct !
