@@evil1st Everything you just said is completely and utterly inaccurate and false. Do you really think manufacturers would be putting 8+ year or 100k+ mile warranties on EVs if they thought their batteries would be that bad? They would be bankrupt before even the first year of operations in free battery replacements alone. And yes, while the range is an estimate because the car isn't out yet, so that can definitely change. You can be sure that it will at minimum have 330-350 miles of range for the price this is coming in at and what its competition on the market is. Furthermore, EVs all have settings where you can adjust how much you want the battery to charge to, meaning they are not constantly charging to full capacity. Unless they are LFP, which those are recommended to be charged to full daily. You are also grossly overexaggerating how much heat affects the battery. I live in Florida and the heat literally doesn't make not even 1% of a difference. This is because batteries like to be warm, so they use less energy to keep the battery warm. The cold is different because batteries don't like to be cold, so the car has to use energy to keep the battery warm. There's a ton more detail I can go into, but I'd just suggest watching engineering explained, since he has a great video explaining all of this in simple to understand terms.

Not everyone is hellbent to copy Tesla, just take a look at a Kia Niro EV or a VW ID.4.
The other day we where talking about the dangers of capacitance and touchscreen buttons vs the tactile buttons. And why motor companies tried switching to the capacitance and touchscreen buttons. AKA, it saves them money. With capacitance and touchscreen buttons, people looks look away from the road to look at where the buttons are before pressing it. Even if they know where the button is. With tactile buttons, people will feel for the button before pressing it, keeping there eye on the road. The same goes for the indicator stalks vs buttons on the steering wheel that keeps moving with the wheel. A study I believe found that using capacitance and touchscreen buttons distracted driver vision for up to 10 sec. The time to look down and focus on the buttons till the time at looking back to the road and focusing on the road to see brake lights in front of them. The study was mentioned on another youtube channel that I can't recall right now. Don't misunderstand, having a touch screen could be good like adjusting setting for your car. But, in my view should not be touched while driving. While driving you should only be using tactile buttons as much as possible. Buttons you can feel and know the location. And keep your eyes on the road.

@@shawnbradford2243 A hybrid is a combination of any two different power trains. In this case, even though the gas/diesel motor does not power the wheels, it still provides power to the battery that ultimately powers the wheels. There are a lot of other industries (mainly commercial or industrial) where this is already used, minus the battery. This is an excellent way to extend the range of the vehicle without adding the additional complexity of having two drivetrains.

not sure of your financials and local gas\electric prices, but depending on those as well as how much you drive, EV's can be quite affordable as it is once you factor in gas savings\maintenance. The kona EV I bought is actually cheaper than a similar gas vehicle for me.
This is a project that I really want to see take off, the old Scouts were amazing little vehicles and if they can bring that product back with electric power it could really shake up the current lineup.
@@booth403the original scout was a rugged farm truck. This is another family mid-size suv. That’s fine of course and I think it looks nice. None of the new versions of these classic trucks fill the gap left by the originals which is unfortunate. Hopefully someone will embrace a back to basics approach and make something simple, affordable, and gas powered.
@@shermanfirefly4343 With all due respect, we had a Scout until about 30 years ago, they were capable offroad vehicles more than anything. Yes, people used them as farm trucks, no that was not the only use for them, we used ours for camping and commuting with family, like any other SUV. I think the main problem here, is that people are stuck thinking it "has to be gas" to represent its original purpose. That's just ignorance at its peak, if this thing is a capable off road vehicle, with more range than the other electric offerings, then its serving its purpose in this day and age. From everything I can see, it will be a dammed capable off road vehicle, and with the generator, that's essentially the same as using the small 4 banger that a lot of owners purchased back in the 60s/70s to get better mileage out of something capable. To be clear, I'm all for gas engines for fun. I enjoy a project like most men, but at some point a lot of you guys need to quit living in the past, and to realize that some form of electric vehicle will be taking over the market whether you like it or not. That doesn't make you wrong to hope that some companies will keep gas engines alive for a while, but saying things like this will never "fill the gap left by the originals", that's just not correct in any sense of the word. Again, no disrespect meant, I just feel like its worth it to stomp out these knee jerk comments when possible. Analyze what you're looking at, in the context of today, and its undeniable that these new Scouts, as well as the Hummer EV, are true electric successors to their gas counterparts.
Scout looks very promising! It's great to see someone has finally figured out the way to get extended range and gain more towing range in an EV truck or SUV (full electric drive train) with an integrated on-board ICE generator. Towing and range extension without having to stop or charge often is the holy grail for EV truck and SUV adoption. Hopefully, we will see more EV truck manufacturers begin offering effective on-board generator range extension options.
@@andreccantin Yes and no. The Volt was way ahead of it's time. However, its electric motors were mechanically integrated in the ICE transmission and drivetrain. i especially hate how they make it seem bigger than the screens actually are, the screens on cheap trims have such huge borders that you cant even call them huge bezels anymore. a smaller screen would be more slim and more cleaner while offering more visibility than 5 inch screens in a 10 inch box.
Holy shit did you hear how fast it is . The norm used to be 6-9 sec for 60mph. This thing goes 60 mph in 3.5 sec. Not to mention it will haul up to 10,000 lbs . It's fantastic that it's American made. Back in the day international would make all its own hardware and it's still going strong . I know because I own an international refrigerator and it's 75 years old and it's still keeping the beer cold . The scout was a big deal back in the day it's good to see that Volkswagen is bringing it back me and my family fully will be supporting this

evs are quicker than ice (by alot), so this is normal, the scout seems to be comparable with the model x in terms of accel and size.
I dont wanna sound negative, but we have to wait to see the range it gets while hauling 10,000lbs, evs are very efficient and are designed to fit average everyday uses, so they drain out fast when doing more work, i think the hybrid setup will be beneficial for this.
These are actually pretty cool! Love that they have the gas range extender.
smh...
It'll be cool if they get anywhere close to those numbers.. a sad reality with most EV's is you gotta take whatever mileage they claim and chop it in half..
..also 50k my foot, remember when Tesla said the CyberTruck was gonna start at $39,900?.. yeah we all know how that turned out..

@@rogerwilco1777the gas generator means mileage is essentially a non issue. You just stop at a gas station and fill up like a normal ICE vehicle. If you need to go further and either don't want to stop, or are going somewhere without gas stations you can just store more fuel in the bed via gas cans. It's basically the best of both worlds.

This is just a tad different than the Scout I learned to drive on in the mountains when I was 12. It was an older model even then. As a little girl weighing about 80 pounds soaking wet getting that pedal down to shift with both hands while peeking over the steering wheel…yeah that means I was not holding on to the steering wheel just hurrying as fast as I could to get the thing into gear…sigh…kinda intense and frustrating at the time. It was not my dad’s idea and we were on a mountain road…lol. We had another older one when I was 16 and had gained 20 pounds but still hard to drive and the ride was …yeah…kinda out of control. Thanks for making me smile and laugh! Be safe!
How much do you weigh now?
I got a reservation for the Rivian R2 the day they announced it, but have actually been considering getting an R1 instead. But this blows both of them out of the water, especially with a larger bed that I can *probably* get my 650cc motorcycle into without having to run it diagonally. The 240V outlet for a camper and bed lighting and outlets on the charge port and on-board generator/range extender make this an amazing platform for camping! Wow. I would buy one today if they were building them now. Just put down a reservation!
This thing is awesome! I grew up spending way too much time on international tractors but it's fun to see them branching out again!
Uh, this isn't IH. It's VW.
I dig it! The bench seat and all those AC power options are killer! Not to mention having actual buttons and knobs for everything. Touch screens are not the way to go for everything.

@@matthewdumas5342 Your stores are 350 miles away from your home? I'd hate to live where you do if that's the case.
Well as a 2 door Bronco owner that LOVES everything about it, I've also always dreamt of a Scout. We will keep the Bronco and happily welcome the Traveler into the mix. Yup, I REALLY wanted a panoramic roof on my next car, but even my wifes little sunroof turns her car into a furnace if she leaves the shade open on a sunny day.
Decided since I was buying something to haul a newborn around in, it wasnt that needed of a feature, especially if it didn't have a shade of some sort.
Bros getting sunburn on his scalp 😂😭
Seriously, I don't get why EV manufacturers are hellbent on putting fixed glass roofs on these cars. Just put a normal fucking roof and save yourself tons of money.
@@huehuehue-x3c Because they are copying Tesla, just like a lot of phone and laptop makers are copying Apple in every aspect.
EVs from traditional brands in their low to mid trim levels don't have any kind of glass roofs, and even the top trim might have a traditional sunroof. Not everyone is hellbent to copy Tesla, just take a look at a Kia Niro EV or a VW ID.4.
If you look at the edges of the roof glass, it seems to be oscillating with the frame rate. Maybe it has a dimming feature.
This is a legit addition to my ice Yukon Denali. I would definitely acquire one for my wife. Meaningful to me, my aunt and uncle worked for IH.
That roof should be on all SUVs. Very cool! and beautiful trucks.
Love the bench seat in the front 😀
I have to hand it to the designers, they did a really nice job with the aesthetics.
Reasons why Honda has been going old with there products. And so are other manufacturers are following suit.

@@ProXcaliber that’s not how hybrids work, the engine in a hybrid drives the vehicle NOT charging the electric motor…..that’s why it’s dumb.

Not going to be anything like the Scout if it's electric though
@@dh66 yeah, it'll probably be better, which is only natural considering that's the whole point of evolution.
This is the first electric vechicle that i really like the look of, especially inside, the cloth and leather combo is amazing!

The Chevrolet Volt had this "figured out" over a decade ago.... and now it's discontinued.
@@andreccantin Yes and no. The Volt was way ahead of it's time. However, its electric motors were mechanically integrated in the ICE transmission and drivetrain. The Scout is a full electric drivetrain and only is electrically coupled to the ICE generator via battery charging only. That said, the Volt was and still is one of the best " hybrids" ever made.
I hate to admit it , but electric cars are getting very interesting.

We'll see how it's implemented in the Scout.
@@NWJF I think this might just be an integrated generator so you can basically "charge" the car using fuel while you are driving. Sounds pretty smart to me as this means you only need one engine, get the EV power/acceleration and still have a great range.
Which EV uses hub motors? I thought that was an idea from 20 years ago that never took off.
@@TwoShoedDude pardon my turn of phrase. Complex EVs such as Tesla, Rivian, Lucid and the like. Use multiple motor setups. With the only similarities between them and an ICE vehicles drivetrain are perhaps suspension geometry and the drive shafts/CV joints.
Keeping a design simple, connecting a motor to the drive wheels through a differential/shaft/axle eliminates complexity, offers familiarity of design AND reduces R&D costs to "redesign the wheel" if you will.
