this sounds so doable and the other third party battery that was $500 sounds over priced. As an electronic engineer im sure I can come up with a circuit and 3d printed case to make at all work at a much lower price level. Thanks for the info. Did you ever finish this project? Maybe ill check you other videos
I just got one of these. Did you ever embark on making the case? One idea I have is to make a case that can house 18650s kind of like a tv remote does, with cylindrical holes and contact pads to wire them up in series. It’d be alright because the drone draws max like 15A. Then, you could just charge/swap 18650s using a single battery frame all day
Always nice to see fpv guys puzzle over these kind of things. I did not change the battery but solder an external power supply because I prefer the GoPro over the on board cam and safe 60g weight.
Hey. Thanks for this info. It's super helpful. Is the NewBee "Fly A Lot More" kit no longer available? I can't find it anywhere online at the moment. I'm looking into emulating the CANbus communication between the battery and the drone so I can make my own batteries, but I would be very interested in seeing how NewBee did it. If I could buy their board and use my own batteries, that would be ideal. Thanks again. 👍
I found a guy who tries the same as you at the moment. I posted the link to the hackaday project but it was deleted. Maybe you should look for him by yourself. His name is AirCruiser.
I don't feel like an additional 600mah would make that much of a difference. Also lithium ion needs programing in the FC to take advantage of the lower cut off voltage. WTF.FPV might have this problem solved but I'm not sure.
Hi, thanks for your video!! I have a battery with few cycles, which has been sitting idle for a few months and is not showing any signal from the LEDs or charging on the original charger. Do you think that if I open the battery, I can charge the cells individually and put active again?
does the DJI battery show voltage while on? My dji fpv battery sit for 2 months after a crash and when i repaired the drone the battery was dead. after charging it it would just reboot over and over. I used a meter to check voltage on the battery but got nothing?
Do you think its possible to just remove the litium cells and install lion cells insted on that board? Tje you can do a balancing cable connector and a xt60 connector and swap cells pretty easy?
Any extra weight is going to make the drone work harder. Anything that throws off the center of gravity will make the drone work harder. In other words any mods may actually decrease battery efficiency. I would trust the engineers who built it.
Given flight dynamics you can shift COG depending on your how you fly. Middle of the road solutions work only for those that keep things middle of the road. COG and COT don't need to be in the same spot. In fact rear props usually have dirtier air when flying forward making them work harder even if COG is alighned. Trusting engineers is all fine and well if your priorities and constraints are the same as said engineers. If you look at how racers or freestylers build their drones you'll see that DJI FPV is underpowered, heavy, not well tuned not to mention easy to break and hard to repair compared to even BNF drones let alone custom ones. Hell even cinelifters put more emphasis on power to weight. I'm not saying DJI doesn't know how to make drones. Their props are quite efficient and their RTH functionality as well as video link are pretty great. But either their expertise doesn't translate well to more fun FPV or their sets of priorities are different. So trusting the engineers should go only so far. Some will want a bigger battery with less voltage sag and more flight time. Some will want to put smaller batteries sacrificing flight time for better flying experience. And even if you just match the stock weight and weight distribution you'll end up with ability to use top of the line LiPo's at fraction of the cost.
Mariana Del Mar Beltran Nu?Ez hace 0 segundos Great information, I wanna know if you can explain a litte about components of the circuit board, I trying to build a similar circuit but with ESP32 microcontroller and i didn't find information about this
Good luck! Once that board is from Power it never works again for us. It falls in a safety mode where you can’t get back if you are not DJI 😉 I already tried it and well, i have a useless battery now
Don't forget you may loose the board in safety mode once it loses all power, Easy to correct, when you disconnect the battery, use jumpers from another 6 battery and you can maintain voltage while disconnecting the main ones.
Problem is how are they (newbeedrone) getting the battery boards? I’d buy a few but lmk where you find them lol. They must be refurbishing a bad battery.
@@Bigballvlogs I am not sure. A few people have tried what you are doing without success. I was scared to try. Maybe the NewBeeDrone guys some how cracked the battery firmware also.. not sure. Keep us posted on your results.
I just got used batteries from Amazon that appeared to charge in full but the drone said it was critically low and wouldn’t fly. The new batteries I got had to do a software update. I’m very interested to see how changing these batteries would integrate with the main board.
12:39 "Therm-AL-couple" ?? Sheesh ! It's a thermistor for Christ's sake. What the hell are you doing playing with this tech, if you don't even understand any of it ? The word you were looking for, although wrong, is 'thermocouple'.

yes, that's a thermistor, for battery temperature
Thanks for showing us the guts of the battery. It will be a challenge, but I'm wishing you good luck.

Thank you for your service sir. It's a good idea, however I did the Amazon return scam. I've got the fly more kit for free 😎

What happens if i connect two battery paralel on dji fpv, just one with the data connected ?

All good ,but how much air time did you get using them....
What "C" rating is fhe dji stock battery?
you can use 60lb braided fishing line to seperate sticky tape from battery surface
does the DJI battery show voltage while on? My dji fpv battery sit for 2 months after a crash and when i repaired the drone the battery was dead. after charging it it would just reboot over and over.
I used a meter to check voltage on the battery but got nothing?
can it be done? did you ever do it ?
I do these with a heat gun set at 200c and its so easy, do not hold in one place, all ways keep moving
that sounds very logical to me those two black wires have a sensor on the end which senses heat what else would make sense nothing, you're right.
do you have a link for that modified battery pack? I don't see it on their website
Thx for the vid. FYI, the DJI batts do say Lithium Ion Polymer right on them. They are def lipo.
Alright..i believe i got it fixed.. just by watching this quick vid.. thanks bro
So you can pretty much use the dji battery board with your new battery set up?
Yes Looks pretty simple
Did you ever play with this more to actually mod the battery ?
Do you think its possible to just remove the litium cells and install lion cells insted on that board? Tje you can do a balancing cable connector and a xt60 connector and swap cells pretty easy?
keep in mind that li ion and li po both have vastly different charge and discharge capabilities
Im thinking of doing same thing cause 8min of flight on sport mode dont cut it
DJI should just sell an adapter that lets you do this to be honest. A lot of FPV fliers already have a ton of batteries laying around.
Thank you sir. I might give it a try🙏
Hood scale. No worries. My microwave has the same grease from the stove ha

but will it void the warranty of drone
Notch side of case so batteries fit aside by side, like you have at end of video.

Suggestion. Use a heat gun to remove without the tape sticking.

Is this true?
most battery stores will hook it up crazy
Heat gun will help to remove the sticky tape
its a temp prob, for thermal shutdown
They are lipoly, you can see on the data plate it says something like lithium ion polymer lol. Kind of a weird way to word it tbh

Put some 21700 40t or 50s to extend flight time and use for long range
Very good video
If battery capacity and discharge rate is not the same as stock, the smart board will throw an error after a few cycles.
Makes sense... it will think the battery is dying...So I have to keep it at 2000? Or can I go higher?
