    The lyrics.
    Now I've been happy lately
Thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be
    Something good has begun
    Oh, I've been smiling lately
Dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be
    Someday it's going to come
'Cause I'm on the edge of darkness
    There ride the Peace Train
Oh, Peace Train take this country
    Come take me home again
    Now I've been smiling lately,
Thinkin' about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
    Something good has begun
    Oh Peace Train sounding louder
    Glide on the Peace Train
    Come on now Peace Train
    Yes, Peace Train holy roller
Everyone jump upon the Peace Train
    Come on now, Peace Train
    Get your bags together,
Go bring your good friends, too
    'Cause it's getting nearer,
It soon will be with you
Now come and join the living,
It's not so far from you
    And it's getting nearer,
Soon it will all be true
    Oh Peace Train sounding louder
    Glide on the Peace Train
    Come on now Peace Train
    Peace Train
    Now I've been crying lately,
Thinkin' about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating,
Why can't we live in bliss
'Cause out on the edge of darkness,
    There rides a Peace Train
Oh Peace Train take this country,
    Come take me home again
    Oh Peace Train sounding louder
    Glide on the Peace Train
    Come on now, Peace Train
    Yes, Peace Train holy roller
Everyone jump upon the Peace Train
Come on, come on, come on
    Yes, come on, peace train

    Come on now, peace train

He was born Stephen Demetri Georgiou to a Swedish mother and a Greek father, was baptized into the Greek Orthodox Church, and attended Catholic Schools. This was the last song he ever sang as Cat Stevens. After this encore song, he unplugged his guitar, walked off stage, left the music industry, converted to Islam, changed his name to Yusef Islam, married, and raised a family. He returned around 2011.

He publicly expressed support for the death fatwah against Rushdie. When given the chance to retract or clarify, he amended that while he personally wouldn't kill Rushdie unless he were directed to by a religious authority, Rushdie did in fact deserve to be killed for his perceived blasphemy. When protesters against Rushdie burned an effigy of Rushdie, Yusuf Islam lamented that it was only an effigy and that he wished it had been the actual man being burned. Singer/songwriters like Cat Stevens and Donovan come along once in a generation, they're like real-life holy men. I agree on how great this song and 'Morning Has Broken' are but they did get overplayed back in the '70s. I wish more people had listened to the meaning of the songs. "Tea for the Tillerman" for me is a top 10 must-own album. Cat had a string of great albums back then before he decided to give up music for a more religious life and became a Muslim. Buddah and the Chocolate Box was the first Cat Stevens album l bought, not quite as good as Teaser and the Firecat or Tea for the Tillerman. It feels to me though that the album is a little 'edgier' which is no bad thing, C-79 has always been one of my favourites of his.

As for #1 albums, that made me curious so I just checked Wiki. That surprised me too! Teaser and the Firecat was #1 only in Australia, #2 everywhere else. Catch Bull at Four was his only #1 in the US, and was also #1 in Canada and Australia. Greatest Hits was #1 in Canada. That's pretty much it for #1's. Crazy, isn't it!?!?! Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Simon & Garfunkel, and The Rolling Stones pretty much kept him from peaking at #1 with his most successful albums in the 70's. His label would released his albums typically a week or two before the bands I just mentioned.
What is a testament to how loved his music is, his albums from the early 70's are all triple platinum. Pretty much all his albums are either gold or platinum. I think I saw 1 silver.

But then there's also the great 1965 song by The Impressions, "People Get Ready", with the lyrics speaking of a train to Jordan, picking up passengers coast to coast. Oh, and Bob Marley did a song called "Zion Train" in 1980.
