  • I take a look at several job site N95 face masks. Why you should take the time to choose the right mask and avoid just selecting the cheapest.

    I had a cheap boss that gave us harbor freight nuiscence masks to cut concrete. I used to bring an 8511 from home. I think I'll try some Milwaukees next time I run out.

    Now the 3m 8511 go for $50 to $70 dollars on some sites like Clinical Supply USA. I haven't seen a Milwaukee mask but Honeywell makes a similar mask with a gasket that was selling for $20 a mask but they are really hard to find now almost a year later!

    can i ask a question i have a ffp1 mask tht loooks like n95 mask, does ffp1 mask protect you from viruses as well?
    sorry for bad english

      FFP2 or 3 are the only ones really studied and used professionally. I would not trust FFP1. FFP1 probably catches some virus you may inhale if someone near you is infected, but probably not enough to protect you as much as you would want

    I'm on that boat that I don't have a mask and I'm an electrician , ive been using the same face mask going on the second week . My question to you is how many days is one supposed to use a disposable face mask for??

    • @DIYMark
      @DIYMark  4 роки тому +3

      Great Question. I reuse my masks until they are dirty. If I'm cutting concrete/tile that might be only a few hours. But light use like sweeping or landscaping I can use them for weeks. I have found you can extend the life of a mask rinsing them lightly and then let them fully dry. If it starts to look dingy I trash it. I also store mask somewhere where it won't be contaminated by the job site. Like a said in the video, how the mask fits and seals against your face is paramount in protecting your lungs.

      @@DIYMark Please do not wash masks. Many use a static charge to help attract and catch small particles and washing them will remove that charge and significantly reduce their efficacy.

    Are these good for smoke

    • @DIYMark
      @DIYMark  Рік тому

      Yes if it is well fitting it will do a fairly good job against smoke. If it is a smoke filled room you'd need more protection...i.e. look at what firemen wear.

      A 3M half face respirator with 7093 or 7093c cartridges is the best. I’ve used them in asbestos mines and mercury mines which are now superfund sites while collecting samples for scientific research. The mask is reusable and the filters are too. Plus the filters are even better than N95, their the highest rating a P100 (that’s a N100 + also resistant to petroleum oils.) They’ve been available on Amazon the whole year, I guess only researchers and scientists figured out how effective and useful it is for this virus. For cleaning the mask, wash the face mask part in soap and water after every use. Less often you can soak the mask in water with a spoonful of bleach for a few mins then rise. Do that once a week or month depending on how often you use it. The cartridges are easier to clean, detach them and wipe the exterior plastic with a chemical wipe like Clorox, allow to air dry. Message me if you have any questions.

    Note: this isn’t about viral masks, even a simple mask is useful for coronavirus.

    Poor review, first, they are ALL dust masks, not one is a respirator. N95 just means that they filter better when worn properly, meaning that you know enough to pinch the metal piece tightly to your own nose shape.

      Do you have a particular mask that you trust? My son has chronic respiratory disease and breathing is an everyday challenge for him even without Covid. He has come close to dying twice just from serious colds. Unfortunately, colds will quickly turn into pneumonia for him.
      He deals with a lot of people everyday and although employees are required to wear a face covering, I worry because I know in general the masks being worn are of little benefit.
      Breathing is already difficult due to his asthma and any mask only exasperates that, but contracting Covid and other respiratory viruses is extremely dangerous for him.
      Please, if you know of a particular company/ brand that would help lower his risks, would you kindly let me know. This information would be greatly appreciated asap.
      Thanks
