I've only ever done one clutch and it was on a JCW. Took me about a week. I made the mistake of taking the box right out, instead of putting to one side. Put me off ever changing a clutch again!
I love these videos. No fancy lift or super expensive set-up, just jackstands and normal tools. The Milwaukee impact wrench is a handy piece of kit by the look of it. And all of it done outside in the driveway like mere mortals do it. Keep up the great work and content!
Hi Kevin, Replaced a few of these gearboxes. Don't like to take them from the customers. But you just do it. On the street!! Respect! Keep up the great work!
This guy has the patience of a saint,,,,that car is a bloody minefield for the mechanic,,, as ever Kev shows how its done, ,,Respect and admiration for really superb work and disciplined craftmanship,,,,
Have to say mate have watched a number of your videos and I think you are consistently professional. Well done sir 👏 Chas. Ps just put gearbox in a 2 ltr traffic shaft was stuck on the centre plate 9 hours to get it out Nightmare 😆 Good luck dude keep up the great work 👍
Great job as always Kev, I just bought one of those Milwaukee high torque Fuel M18s and they're an absolute animal! I have been using it as a nut runner for erecting and dismantling steelwork and it's worth every penny. Had to be careful on the smaller nuts as it was stripping them to bits, but once you get used to the settings 👌
Interesting how you kept the front radiator attached, resting it on stands. I always thought there wouldn't be enough room leaving it relatively in place. My local r53 specialist charges roughly a days work, doing it your way saves quite some time I think :)!
Hey Kevin, thanks again for all the hard work into making these videos for us. Can i ask when u get some time can u show replacing the oil that u have drained and also the process u use to jack up the cars and place them on double axle stands each side please. Fantastic work mate and what an inspiration. Kind regards Jay
I’m handy with a spanner but I know who I’ll be calling when the misses 2005 cooper S need a clutch, I’m knackered just watching. Methodical work Kevin 👍 Nothing worse than a customer talking to you when your trying to get wrapped up at the tail end of the job, hope the price went up.
G'day Keith judging by all that oil everywhere he needs more than just a clutch, there's a seal failed somewhere. On these small cars it's amazing what you have to remove just to be able to get at clutch. Good job as always kind regards John
I think I have mini country man next week. I can give your suggestion a go and film it. What your procedure do you still drop the front end or just subframe. ✨🍻🍻
Hey Kevin, that's an indescribably good job you're doing. 💪🏼 I've already spent hours with your videos. How did you be able to centre the clutch disc without a centring tool?
As a mere hobbyist home car DIYer I admire your channel mate its great, I've only done two clutches on the floor in my entire life, that mini looks absolutely horrible to work on and as if no thought whatsoever went into the mechanics that will work it, is this true in your opinion?
Hi, absolutely fantastic job, CONGRATS!, Im in the way to do the same here in Malaga (south Spain), i have a short question, if i need to change the seal in the gear box, is the same procedure? or different... Thanks a lot for sharing these kind of videos!!
What’s the reason that in all your videos you apply the red grease on the gearbox mating surfaces around the bolt holes. Curious what the purpose is. Keep up the good work!
Wow great job,my rear main is leaking quite bad so is it possible to remove the cooper s gearbox completely using this method or does the full sub frame have to be dropped ? Cheers
@@WMCS Yes Kevin Its the r53 , cheers for that i'm definately having a go at this myself after watching your videos. Like you though no warm garage its an on the drive job soon as it stops bloody raining.
Hey kevin, your video is super, very good work. Question, why you didnt used the clutch centralizer ? You have another technic to centralize it ? Many thanks Again
Out of curiosity, seen you do a couple of these & remove the drive shafts both times. If you're undoing the lower ball joint & drop links etc, why not just undo the DS at the box & swing them out the way? Save time undoing the hub nuts if nothing else.
This one outfit is a canvas material. With elastic band to keep warmth from escaping. It’s a gorka 4 bars., Russian military gear. Other ones are water proof padded goretex outdoor gears. Keeps the body warm nicely.
That engine bay must have been designed by a Committee, none of whom have ever had to do maintenance on their own cars! Let's start a movement to bring back rear wheel drive cars!
The r50 cooper and r53 cooper s 1st gen bodyshells were designed by rover. Then BMW decided to drop a chrysler tritec engine into them as they didnt have a engine developed that was suitable. So they had 2 versions the w10 naturally aspirated for the one and cooper variants and the w11 supercharged versions which were in the cooper s. the jcw had pimped up w11 engines. Thats why its tight in the bay. Also the r designation in the r50 and r53 etc meant rover designed then when it became a solely BMW vehicle it changed to a f designation as most BMW'S are.
@@WMCS Many thanks, people like you make youtube a powerful tool people that share the ability or a capacity to other allow the entire community to grow up
Congratulations on all these works! Mini is awful! But the question on the other hand, ignoring everything, when are you going to install an umbrella or something like that because it's hard to watch the rain totally bathe you?
What I meant to say you have 4 axle stands in the front when there are only two axle stand support areas to put them. But you have four. I would like to do the same when I am working on my car thanks.
Sir what milwaukee tool are you using? Respect for your work, I noticed that you do a lot of 1.3cdti astra's so I will give you one tip You can put Grande Punto 66kw DMF and clutch on that transmission ( both cars are using M20 transmission) it's way more cheaper :)
The thing i've found with the R model Mini's is that once you take the front end off. You can get to most of the engine from there. And it could be just as quick to whip the whole lot out as 1 unit.Engine and box.But top respect to you for doing it the way you did.And if you're reasonably priced. Then even better.Just pisses me off when some twat who claims to be a mechanic tries to mug some people off for doing a job.I had a guy who wanted my 1st Mini for 16 hours to change a gearbox ha ha. Oh how i laughed. What is your rate ? And where are you based ?
I did this job on my cooper s this summer. Took me 6 weeks. Looks like this guy did it one morning - unlimited respect!
It is a bit sketchy this model.,, so many intricate little parts .,,
I started and my car has been sitting for about 2 weeks now... it’s in the process lol Respect to this guy for sure

Same! I did not get it done over the weekend. It sat until the next weekend to finish. This man is incredibly talented.
Took me about the same. It's ass.
You sir,are our modern day horse, surgeon. How you managed to do all this and film is beyond me.

Kev was going HAM on this one.
You Really earned your money on that one Kevin
Ouff.,, it was a bit of a challenging one that. So many intricate parts.

Seems like they took a clutch and built the mini around it, great job!

Kevin i take my hat off to you for that one mate 👍👍👍
Quite intricate and in depth that one was .. but nice ✨🍻🍻🍻

I drop the rear end of subframe I find it easier that way but thats just my opinion

Hi from Italy.. ... GRANDEE
Hola 👋
Great work! You make it look so easy! How can you remember where each bolt goes while on the ground?
if its not too much of a dumb question, ive seen him using a clutch centering tool on all his vids, just not this one, is it not needed here?
Good job Kevin
Thanks for the support as always. ✨🍻🍻🍻
nice job Kev
What’s the reason that in all your videos you apply the red grease on the gearbox mating surfaces around the bolt holes. Curious what the purpose is. Keep up the good work!
So when I thread in the bolts it goes on with it in the hole. To reduce eliminate any oxidisation of the bolts.

Thank you for sharing.
Yeah... What a bull ache that Is. I done the none super charged and that was bad enough. What's the book time something silly I'm guessing?
