I worked for one of the oldest BOP GMC dealers in the Kansas City area during that time and never got to hear of these. Before someone tries to throw shade the dealership still lives as a Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealer in the area being run by third and fourth generation of the same family. Just seemed at the time the company was more focused on volume than performance, which was a shame considering the Ford dealership across the street was known for the Twister cars and the Dominator GT's of the 70's and 80's. Summit Ford results with the Dominator GT led to Ford's 5.0 HO. I didn't understand why we didn't try doing something similar. Your pretty spot on just that after 1970 is the beginning of the age of emissions. That's why almost every 70 car is so valuable cause that was every manufacturer's last chance for high performance and they all went out with a bang. The first and only year for the 454 ls6 Chevelle the only year for 454 ls5 Monte Carlo the 1970 AAR cuda the boss 429 mustang they were all hitting hard core in 1970
Fun fact #2: The supercharger on the alero was an M62 prototype. There are very few left around, but they still pop up from time to time. The M45 was a dealer purchasable supercharger for the 2.4l twin cam. It was a $3,000 option you could have the dealer install. This m45 would boost hp to 215hp and 200ft lb. Plenty enough for a lot of fun in these little cars. I actually own one of these supercharger kits. They are very rare, and when they do pop up, they can go for $1500-2000 depending on how complete the kit is.
0:21 - the 2nd gen Aurora was supposed to be a replacement for the 88, not the 1st gen Aurora. That's why it's smaller than the Gen 1. The Gen 2 Aurora was a much better car, though. It was far closer competition to cars like the Acura TL, Infiniti I35, or Lexus ES.
I'll show my age here..... lol. In high school in '94 I found an '87 olds cutlass cierra GT coupe!!! ahhh I loved that car, had the old HO 3.8 making all of 150 hp but back then that wasn't too bad. The interior was cool, the GT's were super rare. I think in 88 they changed the name to international series or something... then just dropped the whole sporty cierra lol. Always loved the 1st gen Auroras btw.
Had an actual tach and speedo, nice leather buckets with a floor shift auto. fe3 suspension!!! I remember when the dealer told me what it was I was like no thx, but he promised if I would come look at it I'd change my mind... and I did right away, it was literally the only one I'd ever seen. Just Google it, for its time we (me and my dad and friends) all thought it was so cool!!! lol I wish I still had it!!!
I had a 1988 cutlas Calais sedan with the quad 4 motor paired with a 5-speed manual and it was legit one of my favorite cars. Everyone in college was always blown away when they’d get in, sink into those overstuffed plush cranberry seats Man I miss it. It was quite fast for what it was
In those last days of Olds. was a terrible time in automotive history, everything was just a re-badge. You are making some great content my brother!!!!~~
I used to own an Alero pearl silver leather interior, with the V6 auto trans. Just stock It was a beast. One of the many cars that I have owned that I really miss.
Great stuff per usual Hawk, definitely learned something with this one. Honesty im not sure if i think the van is the coolest or if it was the Intrigue but I DO know one thing for sure...whoever was driving that Alero in the 'exhaust sound clip' cant drive a stick for shit 😬. lol
Omg YES forgot about these but glad to see it getting some light after all these years!! I used to think the OSV models were sexy as f...and still think they are to this day!
Nice deep dive! I’m 39 and remember these models but had no idea these sub models existed. But to be fair the V6 in the Alero sounded a little underwhelming, I was thinking it would sound more “meatyer” if that makes sense.
I worked for Avis Rent a Car over the summers of 2002 & 2003 and drove and cleaned a ton of Oldsmobile Aleros. Great cars. Amazing how they were everywhere and now they are nowhere
A few things noted from another great episode. If you get your collection trailered into the show, please make sure you have all the tail lights working.. The Intrigue had one out. I could have gone the whole video without hearing the exhaust. What did I expect though ? Neat vehicles yes. Desirable to me nope. Happy birthday this month to you !!
Those body kits look great! The chrome wheels might not have aged as gracefully, but I think these would've been very cool if they made it to production.
Had a 95 Aurora. It was a good car when nothing was broken. Fuel pump, pressure regulator, squirrel fan in the dash, radiator, hoses... The 4.0L V-8 was a gem though. Nothing went wrong with the actual engine while I owned it. Was super comfortable to drive, could carry five people, and I could even get over 30mph on the freeway. After I gave it to a friend, the transmission went out. Only 110,000 miles total. Love the looks, hate the engineering. Still see a few of Auroras cruising around my little burg.
I bought a used 95 Aurora about 12 yrs ago. I only paid $3k, it had 80k miles with the 4.0L engine. I loved that car, it rode so smooth and I never had any issues with it. I sold it due to needing a bigger vehicle, no other reason. I had removed the mufflers and it sounded great, there was a slight drone at hwy speeds but it was tolerable. I would buy another one now if I could find one in good condition.
The Aurora didn’t have the 4.6 found in the Cadillac. It had a shorter stroke version of the 4.6 Northstar, displacing 4.0 liters. Unofficially dubbed the “Shortstar.” It also didn’t have the major problem that plagued its Northstar big brother, which had to do with the all aluminum engine’s heads having too-short head studs w/ very thin threads, as well.
What baffles me about Oldsmobile is that they went from Americas number one top selling vehicle with the Cutlass in the late 70- early 80s. Then they just couldn’t figure out how to compete with the Japanese for 20 years and went defunct. It seems like they really fumbled the ball.
That was basically every American brand at that time however.
I liked the styling of the Alero . Too bad they didn't put a 3800 SC in it with a manual transmission.

@@kykeith4591 wow
I had a 1988 cutlas Calais sedan with the quad 4 motor paired with a 5-speed manual and it was legit one of my favorite cars. Everyone in college was always blown away when they’d get in, sink into those overstuffed plush cranberry seats
Man I miss it. It was quite fast for what it was
the intrigue looks amazing idc
That ingruie is awesome! How it should be produced!
mMy grandpa was an Oldsmobile man! 💪🏼👊🏼💯 Retired GM Stamping Division, Marion Indiana
In those last days of Olds. was a terrible time in automotive history, everything was just a re-badge. You are making some great content my brother!!!!~~
Thank you
I used to own an Alero pearl silver leather interior, with the V6 auto trans. Just stock It was a beast. One of the many cars that I have owned that I really miss.
Wow! I learn something new everyday on this app!😁
That osv intrigue is gorgeous.
Happy Birthday 🎂
Nice deep dive! I’m 39 and remember these models but had no idea these sub models existed. But to be fair the V6 in the Alero sounded a little underwhelming, I was thinking it would sound more “meatyer” if that makes sense.
That center exhaust on the OSV is very unique. Think I like it!!!
Great content man!
Thank you!
I worked for Avis Rent a Car over the summers of 2002 & 2003 and drove and cleaned a ton of Oldsmobile Aleros. Great cars. Amazing how they were everywhere and now they are nowhere
Pontiac Turbo Firefly Forever! Great video thank you.
I kind of like the mini-van nothing says fun than taking the mom's minivan to track for a track day
A few things noted from another great episode.
Raspy exhaust driven by someone unfamiliar with a manual transmission?☺
@bvward that's what it sounded like to me also..
Subscribed fellow February Birthday Brother!
Thanks man!
That 90’s candy apple red bringing back so many memories man
I bought a used 95 Aurora about 12 yrs ago.
Had a 2000 Alero. Best car ever! 👍
Happy early birthday 🎉
The Aurora didn’t have the 4.6 found in the Cadillac. It had a shorter stroke version of the 4.6 Northstar, displacing 4.0 liters. Unofficially dubbed the “Shortstar.” It also didn’t have the major problem that plagued its Northstar big brother, which had to do with the all aluminum engine’s heads having too-short head studs w/ very thin threads, as well.
