I'll be booking an American Airlines flight through British Airways next week so I can cover some of the cost with Avios points I transferred but I have a question about which card I should use. Since the flight is American and I have the AAdvantage Aviator Silver card that has 3x on AA flights, free checked bag, etc., I'd like to use that card but I'm not sure I'd get all those benefits since I'll be booking with British Airways and not American directly. I have Amex Gold, Chase Sapphire Preferred, and CapOne Venture X as alternatives. Just trying to figure out which would be the best one to pay with. Or does using Avios points negate all benefits entirely?

Hi @RichColemanTx thank you so much for watching. Ummm...The first thing you should know is that my expertise/experience is only in using the AA card and miles. With that said, let's get some things sorted out first:
      1. To my knowledge, you cannot combine miles or points with money (credit cards) to pay for flights. In other words, one must pay for the flight in full with points, miles, or money. But not by mixing or combining them.
      2. Yes, that AAdvantage card you have does give you those benefits when traveling within the US and abroad with the exception of the free checked bag. The free checked bag is only available when you fly within the US. Based on what you're telling me, you're not flying within the US, otherwise, you wouldn't be booking anything through British Airways.
      3. When I traveled to Europe, I booked my flight with Iberia, and I also paid for it with my AAdvantage credit card. One of those flights was operated by American Airlines. Since it was operated by American all my AAdvantage member benefits kicked in for that flight.
      4. My understanding is that on average miles or points are worth between 1.3 - 1.5 cents. Since you have so many options to book this flight, I would start by doing the math to find out which program is giving you the best conversion rate. This is the formula you want to use for that: (cash price) MINUS (taxes and fees) DIVIDED BY (points cost) = Value Per Point
Once you figure out which program gives you the best value for your points, try to book the flights with that one. If you can't do it for any reason then try to look at which credit card gives you the best benefits when paying for air travel with it, and use that one.
Hope all this information helps, and I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help on this.
      Cheers, and Safe Travels! 👊🔥

What's weird is that I called BA and they said I could definitely book a flight and pay for some of it with Avois points. I made him clarify it several times for me.
You are correct about the international flight. Good to know about the free checked bag thing!

@RichColemanTx Well, your best bet is to try it out. Try booking the flight with both, it might work. But like I said, in my experience that's never been an option. But all credit card, miles, and/or points programs are different and are constantly being updated. If it does work, please let me know, that would be amazing!

AA Advantage credit cards have very poor multipliers. If you are an AA enthusiast pairing the BILT Mastercard would be ideal since it is a no annual fee card and gives you 1X when you pay rent 2X on travel and 3X on dining. On the 1st of each month all multipliers (with the exception of rent payments) earn double points. The BILT card is the only credit card that offers American Airlines as a transfer partner. So even if you are not a renter the card still holds a lot of value being a no annual fee card. Excellent video Milo. Great content!

Just got approved for AA Citi Platinum card limit $15,200. I signed up for the 50,000 miles and free bags we use AA occasionally. For a premium card its missing Rental car coverage and some other basics. The United Quest has a ton of benefits for same annual fee. Im still glad to have it

Thanks for sharing! @jasoncentore1830 I agree, the card is missing a few additional perks. But in my case, it satisfies my travel needs.

This card used to be very good but the customer service has been outsourced to the Philippines and they are known for reducing limits for no reason. I agree the customer service always goes against you in disputes.

Hi @SlickRick330 thanks for watching and the input. In my experience, my credit limit has never been reduced, but it has stayed pretty leveled. The customer service is definitely something that could be improved...100% agree on that.
      Cheers!

As a licensed financial advisor, you strongly recommend getting the AA credit card?

Hi @vuho2075 thanks for watching. I think there’s a misunderstanding…I am not a licensed financial advisor, and I make mention of that at the beginning of the video. I’m not recommending anyone to sign up for any credit card, I am simply sharing my now 5-year experience with the AA credit card. 👍🏻

Don't tell lies, that card doesn't give you priority check-in and it doesn't give you priority boarding, the only one that gives you that benefit is the executive card.

    • @MiloEstevez
      @MiloEstevez  12 днів тому

Hi @juanguiracocha4260 thanks for watching and the support. I’m not lying brother, just speaking from my experience with the card.
      1. The card gives you preferred boarding benefits. It might not be in groups 1-3/4 like the executive card you mentioned. But you do board earlier than does who don’t have it.
      2. I’ve been using the priority check-in line when dropping off my bags while flying from the US, Mexico, Colombia, Canada, and Aruba. I do have to say that some airline employees may give you a hard time from time to time when using this benefit. But for the most part is not a problem.
I’ve been a cardholder now for 5 years, and all I share in this video comes from that experience using this card.
      Cheers and safe travels 🤙🏻
