Hey you two. I'm from Switzerland and just discovered your channel. in case you're still in the country and got some more train rides planned (else for your next trip here) : 1) if you get yourself an annual 'half fare pass' for 180 bucks each (www.sbb.ch/en/abos-billette/abonnemente/halbtax.html) , you get all federal and many private train tickets for half the price. for stuff like the jungfrau joch this can be very helpful. 2) scenic train rides like the glacier express use the same tracks as regular trains but often cost more. only difference being bigger windows. you can do most of them with a 70.- daily national train pass. enjoy your visit!
I know you have already left, but an important thing to note is that Zürich is by far the most expensive city in switzerland, with the exception of maybe some places in Geneva
Im so surprised at how surprised they are at seeing those little “Mountains” or just in general trees and lakes it just shows how blessed i am living in Switzerland.
Yes, it's great to have direct democracy. In referendums, the Swiss people opposed mosque minaret building, the Swiss people voted FOR the prohibition of Burka, Hijab and Thador in public, and they also opposed strengthening ties with the great thief, criminal and thug: THE EUROPEAN UNION. Long live Switzerland!
@@floriankurz4169 These are not the referendums I would choose to show how great our direct democracy is tbh. More like the referendum for womens right to vote, the right for homosexual people to register their partnership (if you ask me they should be allowed the same rights as anyone else) or other referendi that increased equal rights throughout all people living here :)

I love watching these kinds of videos where people from around the world visit Switzerland. It always makes me realize once again how beautiful my homecountry is and how lucky i am to live here.
Grüezi I have some Travelhacks for you. If you do long train rides in Switzerland, go to any Local government there you can get a 1 Day ticket for everything. It costs 45-50 Dollar. If you stay longer in Switzerland you should get a half price Card. Its 165 Dollar for a Year. But you profit so much if you travel only 2 Weeks. Stay away from Zürich and other Tourist places. Its absurdly expensive, even for Locals. Buy Food in Supermarkets rather then go Eating in a Restaurant. You can drink from almost any Fountan or every Tap, the Water is amazing. Cheap Hotels are always outside of large Citys.
There‘d also a Tourist version of the GA (Generalabonnement / basically all of public transport is covered by it) which is what I recommend if you plan on visiting different areas. The French-speaking part for example is a 2-3 hour trainride from Zurich and with Geneva, Lausanne and Montreux being so close, 2,3 days to explore the shores of the vineyard-covered shores of Lake Léman and its culture and sites will give you an idea of the diversity our country offers. Careful though; the GA does not cover cable cars / gondolas and the uber touristy spots in the mountains are very pricy to get to, especially Jungfrau.
@@rolfyhh.8059 No... Even if Geneva is also very expensive, it's not as much as Zurich. Any ways, other cites than Geneva and Zurich are much cheaper for sure ! (Even if still more expensive than the rest of Europe)
That was fun to watch, especially because we were in a lot of the same spots today after United canceled our flight home this morning. Bonus time in Zurich plus European flight delay compensation - yes please! Even though it’s super expensive Switzerland is one of my favorite places, can’t wait to come back and explore more soon.
Regarding the direct democracy you must also remember, that the executive (the government) is by constitution a great coalition where all mayor political forces participate. This means that 80-90% of the parties in the legislature are also present in the executive. With other words there is no opposition to speak of, this role has been given to the people by the instruments of the legislative referendums and the constitutional initiatives. The legislative referendum means that if a law is passed in the parliament you can put it to a referendum if you can collect 50'000 signatures of voters within 100 days. You can also make a change of the constitution if your proposal receives 100'000 signatures, which have to be collected in 18 month.
But about 80% of the referendums fail, and people get bored by to many votings. Participation is sometimes not high enough to be valid. Direct democracy is rally something for finding out preferences only. It's never about finding the best solution, rather it finds the simplest solution. Cause people do not vote, vor what they don't understand, if they don't understand a solution - they just do not consider it a solution.
@@holger_p And for anyone who disagrees with you, just look at the Brexit Referendum in the UK and all the trouble it has caused. Less than 40% of eligible voters voted for it, totally crazy! I'm wondering why the Hiltl Restaurant isn't talked about more often on travel videos in Zürich, sure, many people aren't vegetarians, including me, but even i like to occasinally eat plant based stuff, especially since Migros ( one of the big national supermarkets) has some really good quorn stuff, I find the best vegetarian products to be the ones that don't try to imitate meat products excluding the Quorn Fish sticks from Migros, those taste like the real deal. But that aside, Hiltl is famous over here, not only because the food is good, but also since it's the worlds oldest vegetarian restaurant. Just the later fact makes me wonder why it does not get more spotlight on social media.
We used to a lot to Hiltl but over the years the prices have become astronomical and the food is always the same and not so good or innovative anymore.
That’s so fun to see none-Swiss persons be in Switzerland and talk about mountains, chocolate and expensive things but I don’t think our live is really different than yours
Just joined your channel and I appreciate the honest approach of your travels. Switzerland is on my list of future travels. If you get the opportunity please do visit Croatia...its very safe and awesome although I would suggest September when less crowded. Try to do the interior and not the touristy spots. Awesome video stay safe 🙋🏞️
nice you liked it in 🇨🇭👍🏻☀️ glad you visited some days ago, since some days (13.07.2021) it rains a lot and the lakes and rivers are really high and dangerous.. 😔 (and yes Zurich or Geneva is more expensiv than Bern or Lucerne, but if you work in Zurich/Geneva you get paid more than in Bern or Lucerne)
Amazing when people visite Switzerland and only go to the most expensive and popular cities even tho there are amazing little towns all around Switzerland that are really good too overwise nice video 👍
Was fortunate to go to Zurich often for a couple of decades. Among the most beautiful and perhaps the civilized city I know. In a crazy world it’s not surprising to see the haven of CHF way overvalued. Very happy to see you enjoyed your stay to the max!
I love this video so much! I was born in zurich and lived there for 13 years, so whenever I really miss it I just try and find UA-camrs visiting Switzerland (which probably just makes me miss it more but oh well :)
Discovered your videos by accident and love them. First, you two are so gorgeous and sweet. Why is it that Swedish people that speak English have almost no accent? It's amazing. I have subscribed and will be following you from now on. Thanks so much!
@@OskarandDan It is quite amazing because they have such an obvious accent in Swedish. I go to Denmark a lot and the difference is so clear even though I speak neither language apart from a handful of words. Swedish is so sing-song, whereas Danish always sounds like someone mumbling and hoping nobody hears!! :-)
I'm currently in Lausanne visiting and yeah it's an amazing peaceful area You should definetly spend a few hours in front of the Léman Lake it's refreshful :)
You should definitely visit the Beautiful City of Bern to wander around and taste some of the nice food, go swimming in the Aare which floats through Bern and for instance visit Adelboden to do some hiking in the beautiful Berner Oberland 😊
Thank you guys for that wonderful video. I loved it! I live literally 50m from where you stayed and hope the "Kebab" you tried was a Shawarma from the Lebanese take away right next to your hotel. It's so good, and amazingly it costs even less than the bubble tea :)
Thanks for the lovely video of Zurich. Six years ago I spent three weeks in this adorable city that took my breath away. I was very impressed with their trains too, well they are famous for that. Prices for anything can give you a bit of a shock, especially pharmaceutical. I had stupidly run out of a medicine but had a prescription with me just in case. I went to a pharmacy showed them what I needed and they charged 80 Swiss Francs when in Australia I get it for under A$ 20. Nearly had a heart attack on the spot. Beautiful but very expensive country for the average person.
For amazing views of the city you should go up the Uetliberg which is the large hill in Zürich. You can take a train up there or take the tram 13 to the last stop Albisgütli and walk up it, but be warned it’s not easy, will test your fitness.
So glad you enjoyed your stay in my home city and were lucky with the wheater! That bubble tea shop is actually the place where I had my first one ever a few months ago, so that was unexpected :D And right next to it there is a waffle shop that I go to like every month...
My first remeberence of Switzerland, next to the Zurich Airport, is riding with the train along Lake Zurich, listen to the woman on the speaker mentioning all the stops ending at *wil :) Really got a good first impression on that first train ride, high end, clean, precise) Looking forward to my next visit to the country. In the meantime, it's great there is youtube around)
I just came across this while sitting at home in Zurich. So accurate how Swiss people are explaining the direct democracy to others and leaving people stunned. 😂
Switzerland looks amazing. Almost fairy tale style buildings. But WoW those prices, and I thought it is expensive here in Perth. Looking forward to more Switzerland videos.
You know a lot of travel channels try to show the "good life" while traveling, but you guys keep it real. The average man and woman would like to experience these things too and you guys inspire us to do the same. ♥️
Hi guys! Thanks for another great video! Alway enjoy them! I really like the Hotel Josef. Have a question . . . How is the air conditioning in the room? Do you have your own controls within the room? I love sleeping in a cool, crisp, room so air conditioning is very importing to me. Thanks!
Hi guys, loving your videos which I’ve just discovered! I’m so glad when you were in Zurich that you discovered the oldest vegetarian restaurant!! Isn’t it awesome, despite how expensive it is!! I’ve been to Zurich 3 times so far and absolutely love it. You’ll have to go back in autumn or early winter as it’s stunning then too. I actually have my own favourite room in a cute cosy hotel and the view from the window is the quintessential gorgeous village view. Did you get to go on a boat cruise? That’s something fun to do too. I took one that then included a hike up in the mountains with incredible views and was amazing! Happy travels guys. I live in Australia so I’m hoping to be able to get back to my passion of travel next year- missing it terribly! Stay safe!! Cheers, Marg
Rivers are always more clear in the mountains. When that get closer to the sea they pick up more sand and dirt and turn brown. Most cities are closer to the river mouth so you usually see cities with a brown river flowing through. Doesn't mean the water is polluted.
Love watching you guys in vacation :D With which camera did you film that vlog? I am planning to buy one for my trip around the world. Maybe you got a tip

But that aside, Hiltl is famous over here, not only because the food is good, but also since it's the worlds oldest vegetarian restaurant. Just the later fact makes me wonder why it does not get more spotlight on social media.
You’re right, it’s strange! Very happy we went though :)
We used to a lot to Hiltl but over the years the prices have become astronomical and the food is always the same and not so good or innovative anymore.
@@OskarandDan but its soo expensive. There are a lot more and even better places than Hiltl that are cheaper.
Lovely, to see Switzerland in your perspective 😍
That’s so fun to see none-Swiss persons be in Switzerland and talk about mountains, chocolate and expensive things but I don’t think our live is really different than yours
Thank you for the adventures, Oskar is so JOYFULLLLLLLLLLL. Dan is more stoic. Perfect COMBO. THANK YOU TO BOTH OF YOU !!!!
soooooooooooooo wonderfull. all the best to zurich and switzerland, loving it all.
Have been watching your videos for the whole night! Love them!! Hello from Australia.
Aaw THANK YOU!🙏 Love back❤️
oh god, yeah, those thunderstorms were insane, haven't had those for a long time
Just joined your channel and I appreciate the honest approach of your travels. Switzerland is on my list of future travels. If you get the opportunity please do visit Croatia...its very safe and awesome although I would suggest September when less crowded. Try to do the interior and not the touristy spots. Awesome video stay safe 🙋🏞️
Love the Hiltl, I always go there when I'm in Zurich
nice you liked it in 🇨🇭👍🏻☀️ glad you visited some days ago, since some days (13.07.2021) it rains a lot and the lakes and rivers are really high and dangerous.. 😔 (and yes Zurich or Geneva is more expensiv than Bern or Lucerne, but if you work in Zurich/Geneva you get paid more than in Bern or Lucerne)
Your videos are great! And nice to see how you experienced my lovely home country Switzerland 😃
Amazing when people visite Switzerland and only go to the most expensive and popular cities even tho there are amazing little towns all around Switzerland that are really good too overwise nice video 👍
Awesome video! Looking forward to much more. Don't forget the cheese.
Thank you!🙏❣️
@@OskarandDan are you going to Basel? Lived there for many years 🌹🌹
Haha omg I just spotted myself in this video rushing through Zürch 😂 hope you haf a wonderful stay in our country ☺️
Omg haha!! We sure did❤️
You guys are just adorable!! ❤️
❤️❤️❤️
Was fortunate to go to Zurich often for a couple of decades. Among the most beautiful and perhaps the civilized city I know. In a crazy world it’s not surprising to see the haven of CHF way overvalued. Very happy to see you enjoyed your stay to the max!
I love this video so much! I was born in zurich and lived there for 13 years, so whenever I really miss it I just try and find UA-camrs visiting Switzerland (which probably just makes me miss it more but oh well :)
We’re glad🙏 Hope you get to visit again soon!😊
My great-grandpa is from Switzerland. Some of his relatives are still there. It was nice to see where theyre from ❤
Discovered your videos by accident and love them. First, you two are so gorgeous and sweet. Why is it that Swedish people that speak English have almost no accent? It's amazing. I have subscribed and will be following you from now on. Thanks so much!
Aaw thank you🙏😭❣️
@@OskarandDan It is quite amazing because they have such an obvious accent in Swedish. I go to Denmark a lot and the difference is so clear even though I speak neither language apart from a handful of words. Swedish is so sing-song, whereas Danish always sounds like someone mumbling and hoping nobody hears!! :-)
I'm currently in Lausanne visiting and yeah it's an amazing peaceful area
You should definetly spend a few hours in front of the Léman Lake it's refreshful :)
❤️ Loved this! Subbed!
Welcome here!🙏🥰
You should definitely visit the Beautiful City of Bern to wander around and taste some of the nice food, go swimming in the Aare which floats through Bern and for instance visit Adelboden to do some hiking in the beautiful Berner Oberland 😊
We did visit Bern and it was beautiful😍
Great Video. Really enjoying it.
Thank you guys for that wonderful video. I loved it!
I live literally 50m from where you stayed and hope the "Kebab" you tried was a Shawarma from the Lebanese take away right next to your hotel. It's so good, and amazingly it costs even less than the bubble tea :)
No way!! It's a nice neighborhood🙏
Oh wow🥺🥲
For amazing views of the city you should go up the Uetliberg which is the large hill in Zürich. You can take a train up there or take the tram 13 to the last stop Albisgütli and walk up it, but be warned it’s not easy, will test your fitness.
This is one of my favourite episodes ❤
One of my most favorite places I have been to
Awesome job you guys .
So glad you enjoyed your stay in my home city and were lucky with the wheater! That bubble tea shop is actually the place where I had my first one ever a few months ago, so that was unexpected :D And right next to it there is a waffle shop that I go to like every month...
Always welcome in beautiful Switzerland 🇨🇭👍
This is AWESOME
❤️❤️
My first remeberence of Switzerland, next to the Zurich Airport, is riding with the train along Lake Zurich, listen to the woman on the speaker mentioning all the stops ending at *wil :) Really got a good first impression on that first train ride, high end, clean, precise) Looking forward to my next visit to the country. In the meantime, it's great there is youtube around)
Switzerland is so beautiful, hopefully someday i'll have a chance to get there
Yes once must visit its Beautiful lakes greenery peaceful relaxing place switzerland
A couple of years ago I had a gelato in Liechtenstein. After that heart attack the Swiss prices are very friendly. :D
😂😂
Nice one guys 👍👍
Hope you loved your time in my country. The problem with the black screens comes from the polarized sunglasses you wear😉.
Yes! Just never realized they would actually block out the entire advertisement😂
I just came across this while sitting at home in Zurich. So accurate how Swiss people are explaining the direct democracy to others and leaving people stunned. 😂
I'm very glad you liked Switzerland :)
Switzerland looks amazing. Almost fairy tale style buildings. But WoW those prices, and I thought it is expensive here in Perth. Looking forward to more Switzerland videos.
The prices are no joke😂
The price are High but the salaries too, in Zurich the media salary is fch 6.000.-
Un policeman get fch 90.000/ jear !
You guys shoot video so well. Very nice!
You should have visited the ethz main building's terrace! The view is amazing
You know a lot of travel channels try to show the "good life" while traveling, but you guys keep it real. The average man and woman would like to experience these things too and you guys inspire us to do the same. ♥️
Thank you! Really appreciate that😊
I love these type of vidoes, and I saw you guys in zurich btw :)
Aah come say hi next time😍
@@OskarandDan alright, I’ll definitely do so next time😉
Hi guys! Thanks for another great video! Alway enjoy them! I really like the Hotel Josef. Have a question . . . How is the air conditioning in the room? Do you have your own controls within the room? I love sleeping in a cool, crisp, room so air conditioning is very importing to me. Thanks!
The AC was very good as far as we remember! Don’t remember we ever felt the need to adjust anything :)
Stay safe!!
Cheers,
Marg
Rivers are always more clear in the mountains. When that get closer to the sea they pick up more sand and dirt and turn brown. Most cities are closer to the river mouth so you usually see cities with a brown river flowing through. Doesn't mean the water is polluted.
Love watching you guys in vacation :D
With which camera did you film that vlog?
I am planning to buy one for my trip around the world. Maybe you got a tip
Thanks Melanie! We just use our iPhones 12 Pro Max and shoot some of the vlogging footage with GoPro Hero 9
HI, at Geneva Airport you can get a free train ticket (in the bagage hall) to go to Geneva city center (and going back is cheap as well, I thought last I wnet it was CHF 1,50?), just a tip
You definitely got perfect weather! Wouldn’t have been that nice a few days ago...
We were so lucky!
It is a great honor to be a citizen of country 69
There’s no more honorable country on the list🙇♂️✨
PS: ZERO dislike at this point! Fantastic🤣😘😘😘
Hi together
Well mad your video from Switzerland. Im born and grown up in Zürich. And i really miss my number one restaurant the Hilt‘l Restaurant. Enjoy your traveling, like we do. Greetings from Mexico
another great video
4:29 - We have two of them in the small village I live, and we're less than 500 people that live here!
Good video guys 👍❤️
This is what you get when smart, intelligent people have few centuries of political stability and absence of war.
OMG! Just saw this video and that Dan ‘s favorite flavor is rose. Mine too! I never run into someone who loves rose in the US! Im obsessed with all food rose-flavored!
Rose is amazing😍🌹
Great video guy's. I really enjoy watching your travels. Could I please ask, what was the name of the travels card you used at the airport ? It looks great value. All the very best :)
Thanks Peter! It's called Betterment :)
@@OskarandDan Thank You guy's. That's great stuff. Have a lovely day 👍 👍
When I am with my boyfriend, I HATE seperate sheets--glad you enjoy :)
We share everything but we do NOT share sheets🙅♂️😂
