I wish Ridley Scott’s influence wasn’t shoehorned in TBH. The hybrid has been done before in Alien 4 (yikes) & it’s an idea that has been rejected by many in the fandom. Not fond of the idea of Alien / human hybrids. Idk, if the prequels were fleshed out better & resolved, then maybe I & many others would have been more open to the idea of this ending being an brilliant moment but I will say, that design was really terrifying & eerie on a whole new level! Curious to know how they got face huggers or if David’s arc has any ties at all to this movie… it’s brought up a few questions the more I think about it. I still enjoyed the film, especially Andy! He was the real star of the show!

From Kay(the pregnant woman) choosing to willingly expose her baby to foreign alien goo(most mothers would be more skeptical/careful), to another crappy alien/engineer/human hybrid, to just ejecting the final monster into space FOR A FOURTH TIME. I loved the beginning and the middle of the movie, but the ending should've been done differently.. mabye they should've wrote in the script to have andy force the stuff into the pregnant mother for the company instead of her voluntarily doing it. And then we didn't see the mother change at all or mutate either.. I give the movie a 7/10. I rate it my second favorite in the alien franchise for everything else that was good about this movie. It was unique that it's a stand-alone movie and was the scariest of all the alien movies.

Certainly the 3rd best Alien movie and ties up the first 3 movies well as well as enhancing elements of the prequels. Did the newborn better then Resurrection also, made the facehugger a legit threat . One of the downsides was the three endings .
I saw the movie, and I must confess to being a grown man who hollered out loud to some of the scary parts of the film. A great piece of entertainment. Great video and recap.
I love how Romulus strayed away from the Prometheus and Covenant emphasis on AI/synthetic as the antagonist with the aliens only as the backdrop. AI still has a nefarious role to play but isn't so much the antagonist in this movie. Which I prefer because after all didn't we fall in love with the struggle of the alien xenomorph vs human vs human greed aspect? At least, I did and thus really like this new installment, Romulus. David Jonsson as Andy gave the best performance here. Bravo!!!
I think Bjorn might have been Kay's baby daddy... I know he was with Navarro, but there was a quick look that I thought I noticed. I need to see it again.
I was so excited the first 20-30 minutes. The world-building, the sets, the cinematography, the story and even the characters seemed to be cool. And Andy the android was such a great character. But then….I hated the last act, basically everything after Rook. It just devolved into a messy hodgepodge of Alien, Aliens, Alien3, Alien Resurrection, Prometheus, and Covenant. Why?!? When that “offspring” thing came into view, I was done. Such a dumb choice. It had so much potential!!! And TBH, I was SUPER glad the Bjorn character was killed off. He was irritating AF!!!

I completely agree. This movie just recycled the same old dynamics as the previous ones-same story, different dressing. Honestly, I'm tired of seeing the same formula over and over. The Engineers' lore introduced in Prometheus was fresh and intriguing, though. That was the kind of innovation the series needed.

If anyone is wondering, the Intelligent human xenomorph hybrid from Dark Descent may have its roots in the hybrid in this movie. Yeah its top teir goof when you hear someone is just telepathicly linked to the xeno's and a morph/human hybrid can talk and use weapons, it still manages to make sense.
This one is my favourite out of the new Alien films, even though I didn't expect much from it, since it felt like Hollywood is just milking the franchise. The pacing was really capturing, and the characters were well written with a good cast, especially the performance for the Synthetic. It had some new twists in creative space action sequences, while alluding to the original films, and there was less dumb/confusing stuff going on compared to Prometheus or Covenant. The movie did a great job with what they were given. The whole point of an Alien sequel isn't to reinvent the wheel, but just to give a visually stunning, sci-fi horror with a twist.
That's only cuz the facehugger attached to a human and it assimilated itself in a humanoid form IE if you look at alien 3 it attached to a dog in a theatrical version and then there was supposed to be an ox in the other version and that's why it had four legs and ran on all four legs and was referred to as a runner there's a novel series that's actually alien versus predator that I highly recommend and there's there's three books so there's a character in the books that they actually slightly based the character from the first alien versus predator on when they had the idea for that movie it was going to be of her character they predators in that film go to a planet out in space that's actually a farm planet and they have a creature on that that they also use kind of like a cow so the aliens that were offspring from that from the facehuggers attaching to these like weird cows kind of look like the cows and have like six legs so it depends upon what the facehuggers attached to whether a cow like creature or or what have you

I can NOT be the only one who didn’t get sibling energy from the leader and the pregnant girl! They came off more romantic. And between how she described the father being “some 🤬hole” and his reaction to finding out she was pregnant, it seemed way more romantic relationship than sibling.
It seemed more like the ending of this movie should've been an alternate ending. It's like those deleted or alternate scenes that you watch on your Blu-ray extras. It was very odd & didn't seem right.

The TV series will most likely focus on Weyland, the corporation's goals for colonization on different worlds and how to advance humans as a species to do so. There could also be references to the various ships including "Prometheus", "Nostromo" and "Romulus/Remus" and many others. The beginning of "Alien: Covenant" is probably where the tv series will take off from...🤔

Alien : Romulus was a fun film, but it was hardly original. At its core, it was simply a reshuffling of the 1979 Alien story. The need for the expository character "Rook" to explain the plot holes and deus ex machina that loop Romulus back to Alien was the worst part of the film. Fortunately, it incorporated enough original and (a lot of) borrowed elements to avoid being called a reboot, or remake. The anti-motherhood/pregnancy theme has become a trope of Ridley Scott films and, by his own words, he influenced changes in Fede Alvarez' Romulus story. For all the "brutal" MDK scenes, the film wasn't particularly chilling, or shocking. The fast edit and near constant action is what drives Alien : Romulus to box-office glory. Unlike Scott's prequels, Alvarez gives us just enough character development to elevate his ensemble cast from mostly meat-bags waiting for a body-horror effect (ala Scott's "prequels") to sympathetic characters with motivations, personalities and interests. I'm hoping Ridley Scott and the Studios don't mess up the almost inevitable sequel. However, your suggestion that Neill Blomkamp's Alien story treatment might finally be green-lighted is a pipe-dream. Blomkamp's story was too deferential to James Cameron's sequel blockbuster and Ridley Scott is actively trying to deprecate (if not outright retcon) Cameron's Aliens masterpiece. Fede Alvarez's Romulus story treatment was also heavily influenced by Cameron's Aliens, but Ridley Scott aggressively encouraged changes that emphasized his own Prequels and the original 1979 classic he directed (but which was created by Dan O'Bannon).
I felt that even when it borrowed from the other films it had a unique spin on them that made it a worthy sequel. The fact that the characters decisions aren’t just driven by them being incompetent curious scientists as they are in other films also made it far more believable and interesting.
I was surprised how good this movie is I give it a B- because I believe there should’ve been a little bit more action in it. but it gave us back that 1979 aliens that is a classic. I highly recommend people to go see it.
Wasn’t impressed by the actor playing Andy the android, there was far too much emotion on his face. Ian Holm, Lance Henriksen and Michael Fassbender all followed the same formula of making emotions very minimal and avoiding looks of panic and fear, this David Jonsson bloke who played Andy constantly looked like he could smell a fart, there was emotional pain on his face, a trait all of the other android actors masterfully avoided.
Very much liked the movie, I still haven't fully digested it but probably on a second or third place after aliens2 and maybe alien. The whole preface that weyland yutani would misplace a whole research station, is just extremely unplausible. Even more so when said station has a damaged but functional ASH android that claims it is able to use the communication module and get in contact weyland yyutani to get a team sent to them in 6 months. It just seem unlikely that a station breaks down due to alien outbreak then drift for a while, until it is spotted by the colony right before it is about to crash into some rings without weyland yutani trying to reclaim it. It's too convenient. That the team initially think it is a ship and not a station is also weird to me. the whole preface is something where you just have to disengage logical or critical thinking and just enjoy the movie IMO. I must also admit I thought the director could have had fun with the 5 cryopods they recover. They only checked 1 of them when they found them. The other 4 could have been full of facehuggers, implanted hosts or any kinds of spicy stuff, I honnestly thought that might have been the way the alien would get on to their ship :) As for the ending and a potential followup, then we know there was at least 30 something face huggers running around, and that's not counting for a potential queen somewhere. The spacecraft they left on had been in the hangar for like 40-60 minutes with it's doors open. Frankly I will be almost surprised if a face hugger did not hide aboard the ship. The movie left me almost physical exhausted because it just didn't stop with the suspence, there was very little in the form of breaks where you could get your pulse down from 200, it also introduced some nightmare fuel like a swarm of face huggers that we hadn't seen before outside of comics or games, and there was more lore about the alien growth cycle. I feel though that the different movies, games, comics, books etc, really can't agree on how long incubation takes and how long it takes a chestburster to fully grown. I think this movie beat the speed record for both. From someone gets facehugged, impregnated, chestbursted etc. and until you have a fully grown Xenomorph in your face it takes at the most 15-20 minutes in the movie. That's a far cry from the other alien movies where it is easily a day or more. The actor who played the android absolutely smacked it out of the ballpark, that was a really really great performance by him. The rest where from okaish to good. Also in term of annoyance then that annoying character with the weak mustache(bjorn?) is either a very good actor or he has a natural talent for it, I almost cheered when he got his acid accident ;P When I saw the scene where they retrieve the original alien, my first thought was that they where actually retrieving the mutating remnants of Dallas and Brett from extended edition, but it makes fine sense to me that an alien would cocoon itself to survive in space. I feel that the references to previous movies got a bit to much at times, but some where also great. I enjoyed seeing ASH, and variations of the spacecraft from prometheus just much more worn down, but rehashing some of the quotes from earlier movies felt unnecessary, I could live with face huggers needing body heat or similar to be able to target pretty, but I was confused if the movie implied the same thing for the pregnant sister when she had cold water all over her, if that was why the alien didn't grab her or if it was just using her as bait. If it was the body heat thing then that is utterly ridiculous. The facehuggers themselves seemed a lot less "efficient" as well, almost storm trooper syndrome with how many times they had the chance to grab someone but didn't take it or miss. The Smart pulse rifle seemed a bit overpowered, why don't the marines have those? :) The hybrid was a lot better than the one in aliens 4, but I still think a true xeno is more scary. I would kinda like see them play with the concept of mixing androids with aliens, but I simply can't see humans getting injected with black goo and it not ending very badly for them, that just my head canon :)
I actually agree with all you said. Some of it seemed too convenient especially towards the end. Suddenly there are aliens everywhere and a unlimited amount of ammo inside a full auto aim assist rifle.
The TV series is 30 years before Alien and it is going to be shot on earth? Im completely confused. You're establishing knowledge of their existence long before anyone knew they existed. I don't see how that works. I guess it will be in a completely different universe.

I loved a lot about Romulus but I felt jumped the shark in the last half hour in its quest to make the ending bigger and bigger and bigger. Sometimes less is more. Sometimes smaller is better.
I didn’t like the humanoid crossbreed. Yes it was scary but it literally looked like an alien from another movie not the alien movie. Idk why they couldn’t have made him look like one of gigors perfect human paintings. Like a human with the skin of an alien. It would’ve been so much more impactful if there was some bad ass looking baddie alien

Uhhh, Resurrection redux?
The TV series will most likely focus on Weyland, the corporation's goals for colonization on different worlds and how to advance humans as a species to do so. There could also be references to the various ships including "Prometheus", "Nostromo" and "Romulus/Remus" and many others.
The beginning of "Alien: Covenant" is probably where the tv series will take off from...🤔

Great movie….gore top notch…..can we petition 20th Century to retcon Alien 3 and Resurrection so we can have a proper sequel to Aliens and let Fede give us something good!!! When they throw in whatever that thing was in Aliens Resurrection...and now this weird half breed thing in Romulus... it's a spit in the face to Alien fans.
As if the fear of an Alien wasn't enough. If you were better at selling a story, all these weird add-ons wouldn't be necessary.
The film has no sequel or story to be continued, unlike Covenant

We also, need a sequel to the movie Life with Ryan Reynolds and that Alien.
Alien : Romulus was a fun film, but it was hardly original. At its core, it was simply a reshuffling of the 1979 Alien story. The need for the expository character "Rook" to explain the plot holes and deus ex machina that loop Romulus back to Alien was the worst part of the film. Fortunately, it incorporated enough original and (a lot of) borrowed elements to avoid being called a reboot, or remake. The anti-motherhood/pregnancy theme has become a trope of Ridley Scott films and, by his own words, he influenced changes in Fede Alvarez' Romulus story. For all the "brutal" MDK scenes, the film wasn't particularly chilling, or shocking. The fast edit and near constant action is what drives Alien : Romulus to box-office glory. Unlike Scott's prequels, Alvarez gives us just enough character development to elevate his ensemble cast from mostly meat-bags waiting for a body-horror effect (ala Scott's "prequels") to sympathetic characters with motivations, personalities and interests.
I'm hoping Ridley Scott and the Studios don't mess up the almost inevitable sequel. However, your suggestion that Neill Blomkamp's Alien story treatment might finally be green-lighted is a pipe-dream. Blomkamp's story was too deferential to James Cameron's sequel blockbuster and Ridley Scott is actively trying to deprecate (if not outright retcon) Cameron's Aliens masterpiece. Fede Alvarez's Romulus story treatment was also heavily influenced by Cameron's Aliens, but Ridley Scott aggressively encouraged changes that emphasized his own Prequels and the original 1979 classic he directed (but which was created by Dan O'Bannon).
I felt that even when it borrowed from the other films it had a unique spin on them that made it a worthy sequel. The fact that the characters decisions aren’t just driven by them being incompetent curious scientists as they are in other films also made it far more believable and interesting.

I was surprised how good this movie is I give it a B- because I believe there should’ve been a little bit more action in it. but it gave us back that 1979 aliens that is a classic. I highly recommend people to go see it.

It looked like an Engineer
Wasn’t impressed by the actor playing Andy the android, there was far too much emotion on his face. Ian Holm, Lance Henriksen and Michael Fassbender all followed the same formula of making emotions very minimal and avoiding looks of panic and fear, this David Jonsson bloke who played Andy constantly looked like he could smell a fart, there was emotional pain on his face, a trait all of the other android actors masterfully avoided.
The headline says explained and all it was is another video of a summary of the movie.
Question here, is Kay really dead considering the serum could bring back the mouse lab alive?

Very much liked the movie, I still haven't fully digested it but probably on a second or third place after aliens2 and maybe alien. The whole preface that weyland yutani would misplace a whole research station, is just extremely unplausible. Even more so when said station has a damaged but functional ASH android that claims it is able to use the communication module and get in contact weyland yyutani to get a team sent to them in 6 months. It just seem unlikely that a station breaks down due to alien outbreak then drift for a while, until it is spotted by the colony right before it is about to crash into some rings without weyland yutani trying to reclaim it. It's too convenient. That the team initially think it is a ship and not a station is also weird to me. the whole preface is something where you just have to disengage logical or critical thinking and just enjoy the movie IMO.
I must also admit I thought the director could have had fun with the 5 cryopods they recover. They only checked 1 of them when they found them. The other 4 could have been full of facehuggers, implanted hosts or any kinds of spicy stuff, I honnestly thought that might have been the way the alien would get on to their ship :)
As for the ending and a potential followup, then we know there was at least 30 something face huggers running around, and that's not counting for a potential queen somewhere. The spacecraft they left on had been in the hangar for like 40-60 minutes with it's doors open. Frankly I will be almost surprised if a face hugger did not hide aboard the ship.
The movie left me almost physical exhausted because it just didn't stop with the suspence, there was very little in the form of breaks where you could get your pulse down from 200, it also introduced some nightmare fuel like a swarm of face huggers that we hadn't seen before outside of comics or games, and there was more lore about the alien growth cycle. I feel though that the different movies, games, comics, books etc, really can't agree on how long incubation takes and how long it takes a chestburster to fully grown. I think this movie beat the speed record for both. From someone gets facehugged, impregnated, chestbursted etc. and until you have a fully grown Xenomorph in your face it takes at the most 15-20 minutes in the movie. That's a far cry from the other alien movies where it is easily a day or more.
The actor who played the android absolutely smacked it out of the ballpark, that was a really really great performance by him. The rest where from okaish to good. Also in term of annoyance then that annoying character with the weak mustache(bjorn?) is either a very good actor or he has a natural talent for it, I almost cheered when he got his acid accident ;P
When I saw the scene where they retrieve the original alien, my first thought was that they where actually retrieving the mutating remnants of Dallas and Brett from extended edition, but it makes fine sense to me that an alien would cocoon itself to survive in space.
I feel that the references to previous movies got a bit to much at times, but some where also great. I enjoyed seeing ASH, and variations of the spacecraft from prometheus just much more worn down, but rehashing some of the quotes from earlier movies felt unnecessary,
I could live with face huggers needing body heat or similar to be able to target pretty, but I was confused if the movie implied the same thing for the pregnant sister when she had cold water all over her, if that was why the alien didn't grab her or if it was just using her as bait. If it was the body heat thing then that is utterly ridiculous. The facehuggers themselves seemed a lot less "efficient" as well, almost storm trooper syndrome with how many times they had the chance to grab someone but didn't take it or miss.
The Smart pulse rifle seemed a bit overpowered, why don't the marines have those? :)
The hybrid was a lot better than the one in aliens 4, but I still think a true xeno is more scary. I would kinda like see them play with the concept of mixing androids with aliens, but I simply can't see humans getting injected with black goo and it not ending very badly for them, that just my head canon :)
I actually agree with all you said. Some of it seemed too convenient especially towards the end. Suddenly there are aliens everywhere and a unlimited amount of ammo inside a full auto aim assist rifle.

Weyland/Yutani is a mega corporation so why would Ripley and her crew be the only ones to be used by them? Others would be impacted, too.
The TV series is 30 years before Alien and it is going to be shot on earth? Im completely confused. You're establishing knowledge of their existence long before anyone knew they existed. I don't see how that works.
I guess it will be in a completely different universe.
You know... It would be really interesting in seeing what other kinds of things might exist in this universe... Sonething not tied to the Xenomorphs or the Engineers.

I loved a lot about Romulus but I felt jumped the shark in the last half hour in its quest to make the ending bigger and bigger and bigger. Sometimes less is more. Sometimes smaller is better.

I didn’t like the humanoid crossbreed. Yes it was scary but it literally looked like an alien from another movie not the alien movie. Idk why they couldn’t have made him look like one of gigors perfect human paintings. Like a human with the skin of an alien. It would’ve been so much more impactful if there was some bad ass looking baddie alien
