I listen to this often. To hear a male voice is a lovely twist. It also works without Elizabeth’s vocal gymnastics. It’s just a beautiful song brilliantly performed here
I've been listening to this many times today. I think I'm up to seven now…. I've loved the Cocteau Twins since first hearing them many years ago, and enjoying them in concert. It saddened me that their work wasn't being kept alive, as it should be, and continuing to be loved. I am so grateful to you for covering their work. You play beautifully. PS: I adore The Sundays as well. Your covers of their work are just absolutely lovely.
This is insanely good. Your covers are a bright spot in my day and I wish I had mp3s for all of them. This is probably my favorite one, along with your Hartfield cover. Keep being awesome, man.
Matt, if you're still around on your channel, please know that your work has given me so much joy over the years. I really hope you're still out there making a beautiful noise. Come back to us sometime
Matt, i don't know how to tell you this, but... Your covers are very great, you touch my souls, this it's the first time than i cry, you have a gift and talent a real gift, thank you. Greetings from México City.
Altho I first heard this cover alot closer to the actual date of publish I never got around to saying: you nailed this song in your own awesome way, a prime example of an outstanding rendition of a song not so easily covered.. These words come from someone who's been listening to the cocteau twins they're entire life
Matt Gurley es un chingón... Todos sus covers son buenísimos. En muchos años nunca pensé posible crear un cover descente de los Cocteau Twins con gutarra acústica. Éste vato lleva 3 impresionantes.
Man....I grew up on this stuff and it takes me back every time I hear it. These guys, The Sundays, The Innocence Mission, and That's Entertainment by The Jam instantly stop me in my tracks. You absolutely nailed the feeling and essence of the Cocteau Twins and The Sundays covers were superb. Thanks man....I'm just learning how to play ....this give me hope.
Well done! You've captured all the essence of this song. Now I believe men can also express those unique beauties that I used to think only Liz can do :-)
Oh man, just got here by accident as I misspelled Matt Gourley and since I LOOOOVE Cocteau Twins it felt right to give it a listen. I didn't expect much because I think if there is one band impossible to cover it would be this one but man oh man... Great great job! You've managed to capture the essence, great harmonies, the overall feel.. Wow! Thank you!
absolutely stunning version. Never thought a guy could do justice to Liz's singing but I stand corrected. Great tone on the backing arpeggios and sound wash.
One of the most amazing things I’ve ever heard in my life. Everything about this is perfect. You’re awesome dude. I also love that you are still doing this kind of thing on your channel
I didn't know who Cocteau Twins were until I heard your amazing covers. Now I'm a fan of their music. I'm so saddened you're straight because I'd marry you in a heartbeat. Gorgeous looking and gorgeous talent, hope you don't mind me saying so.
I loved them and the Sundays as a teenager, in 2007-2009, not during their heyday. But I became acquainted with that music from my stepmom’s CD collection. I did covers of their and the Sundays’ music, to varying degrees of success in pulling them off. I didn’t even experience either of their music 🎶 during the time they were making it, but I still think 💭 there is a timeless very particular atmospheric sound to both of them and to a slightly lesser extent, The Smiths, that has never quite been duplicated by the newer waves 🌊 of shoegaze-influenced bands. Once I discovered the term, I soon realized I was like the only person I knew in my high school, Sturgis Charter Public School, who knew the term “shoegaze”. Someone was like “What are you talking about Reuben? Shoegaze?” and that the Sundays struck them as being “like female Morrissey”, which isn’t entirely off-base. People around me my age knowing the term “shoegaze” only seemed to come later when I was in college at UMass Lowell.
Four years later and you're still getting comments. Stunning. For fun I decided to look for Cocteau covers, never dreaming I'd find something as beautiful as this.
Dude! I was totally coming here expecting a laugh! five stars. Will check out your other stuff soon... off to bed after my nightly dose of Cocteau Twins... only, it's tours this time! Hope you have some originals.
Awesome! I love the Cocteau twins. Very authentic sounding backing track; sounds cool with acoustic, and your great voice works perfectly; dont even miss Elizabeth Fraser
dude... really been enjoying your covers... all the stuff I grew up listening to... interesting to hear a guys voice to all my favorites. keep them coming!

How am I the last 3 comments….. people are unaware of this… to the guy with the guitar and voice: so wonderful!
Amazing. The fact that you are covering the Cocteau Twins (thus the difficulty ensued) alone is a bold statement.
Excellente song!

@@Andrelour I'd be in Heaven.
That awesome! I love how it make me feel so nostalgic... you're really good, hugs from Brazil
Great effects !
Very well done. Your deeper, tighter range puts me in the mind of Morrissey covering Liz, which I like. I'd add this to my Cocteaus collection.
Love this.
felicidades muy bueno, me gusto mucho; amigo soy fan por siempre de cocteau twins
Wow, Matt! Dazzling true to the original, yet with something uniquely new. Love it.
Nice work!

The cover that started it all! Thanks again Matt!
This one is so good it deserves a remake in higher quality, @MattGurley. Congrats on the voice, suited the song perfectly!
Adorei o cover, algumas musicas nunca envelhecem.
