You deserve an award for this video, the music, the fade aways and the camera work is stunning. It really made me feel rather sad. Well done Darren for making this.
I never thought I would get emotional watching, of all things, a video about a rollercoaster being scrapped. This is the first 'real' rollercoaster I ever remember going on, in fact all my first coasters were Lightwater Valley. Such a shame we never had the chance to say a real goodbye to such an iconic ride.
I'm mortified that history is being erased in your area and any area! Here in Michigan, USA, forests are cleared, historic homes are demolished, and replaced by "Strip malls." Thank you for this presentation.
The current management should hang their heads in shame. Destroying unique Yorkshire history and heartlessly scrapping it all without even letting anyone have a piece of it. Southern shareholders who dont care whatsoever about the history of this place or what it means to people.
Absolutely insane to remove and scrap this fabulous coaster. The owners have made a big mistake the park will probably go the way of camelot and the American adventure. RIP the Ultimate and probably lightwater valley too 😢
They made a huge mistake years ago when they dumped the thrill rides. Much smaller potential visitor demograpjhic, lots of competition, and nothing to actually draw people. This ride WAS LV.
What is ‘Lightwater Valley’ gonna 🐝 like 👍 without ‘The Ultimate’? Not the same if you ask me. I had [and still have] fooooooooooooooooond memories of that theme park even in my darkest and most *painful* 😣 era of my life [after losing my mother 👩 in 2002] when, [looooooooong story short], my dad 👨, his girlfriend Clarissa Fernandez, her son Enriquez and Clarissa’s sister 👩 Dorota and her two children Guillermo & Popibela took me to Lightwater Valley back in 2003. There, my dad 👨 & I went on the Ultimate together, having separated from the group temporarily to do our own things. I went on the Ultimate inspired by riding the back of my dad’s motorcycle 🏍️ and I really enjoyed it. I envisaged multiple variants of that ride in various theme parks, I liked it that much.
I used to go here quite a lot as a kid and I loved it. Went to book a trip for the nostalgia and realised it was basically a glorified kids playground. So sad! I get where they're going with it...but such classic rides...all gone. The Ultimate was iconic.
Imagine the feelings of joy, elation and fear that this rollercoaster provoked in its riders during its lifetime. The music tracks to your videos never fail to reflect the nostalgia and loss perfectly. Great drone work too. Thanks Darren.
I used to drive up when I lived in Pontefract & needed to get away from it all. I'd keep on this ride for hours or until my knees were so bruised from the safety mechanism. It was pure heaven looking over the trees & seeing the countryside from such a high viewpoint. I've found this video very moving, yet another piece of my history gone. Thankyou. Xh
It's sad when something dies but great that you have been able to document it so well Darren. The drone footage was superb! the lighting was just right. The movement and music all seemed to fit together so well not too mournful but appropriate. Another masterpiece! 😂
I think this goes back to the reasoning the park folded. A business will try to salvage as much as possible during the loses. This is not usual to see, unfortunately. Rely on memories and this fine video as the final departure is under way. Sad but true. Thanks for the fine video as always, Darren. Cheers mate! 😮
Built by British Rail its almost like watching another railway disappear under Beeching and the line ripped up and disposed of. Brilliant drone shots Darren and how poignant is that tv being turned off at the end.
Its such a shame the coaster enthusiasts didn't get one last opportunity to take photos, walk round, reminiscing about the days gone by there will never be a ride like it again 😢
I remember being excited for our annual school trip down from Scotland to ride the ultimate as many times as I could. Really sad to see it just chucked away like this without even a proper sendoff. Totally appreciate you bringing us this video thanks.
This is an absolute traversety!! There's no reason why this had to happen! The ride would perfectly suit the older end of their target audience without any issue 😔😢🙏🏻
I was there as a kid in the 80s, before the coaster. Memories include the BMX bikes, the vertical slide and the bikes with steering wheels and off-center hubs. It took until 2016 when I took my own kids to finally ride the Ultimate, it was rough and bumpy for a Steelie by that time but so glad that we went when we did. Sad to see it go.
I remember the bmx bikes. I couldn't remember which Park they were at. And there was a good size que for it too. Didn't they also have 3 big death slides in a big barn there back then
@@descheers2217 Yes, the death slide was in a barn, still there I imagine. The BMX circuit had a wooden over under bridge with a yump on top in a general figure 8 layout iirc. I went walkies and found the remainder of a 2m wide tarmac strip on my most recent visit.
That is awesome, I remember it as a kid back in the early 80s but couldn't remember which Park it was at. I seem to remember there was a small slide for youngsters, a blacked out one then the big steep one. God that was along time ago lol. Who'd have thought kids wouldv been qing to get on bmx's. They where the days.
😱😱😱 TOTAL SHOCKER TO SEE THIS VIDEO, AND COSTER BEING DEMOLISHED!!! Visited Lightwater Valley with a school trip some years ago, absolutely gobsmacked at the sight of this giant coaster! The park should be totally ashamed of themselves, and dare I say, I almost wish the whole park fails now, as punishment to them. Many Many Thanks for making and sharing this video with us all, a stunning job and remembrance you've done here, you should be proud! 😊
this is my local park, I have been almost 100 times since I was a kid. Once I went with my primary school when I was little and it was the first roller coaster I ever went on. It made me fall in love with them, and now I’m obsessed with coasters in general. RIP
Very sad to see this. It would have been better to at least sell ride parts to enthusiasts rather than just dumping all the track and metal to the scrap yard. Brighton Pier Group and Lightwater Valley should be ashamed at treating a record holder roller coaster this way without letting fans of the ride say a proper goodbye to it
Although I'm not a great fan of roller coasters, it is a major upset to see such a landmark get dismantled and scrapped. I did however appreciate your history video of it and was pleasantly surprised to hear that British Rail had some involvement in its construction. The music does fittingly remind me of An Ending (ascent) by Brian Eno; parts of me are now wishing I should have given it a try during my 2 visits to Lightwater Valley around 10 years ago. 😥💔
Thank you so much for sharing this incredible video footage. Though I, unfortunately, never rode The Ultimate I have always been fascinated by it ever since it first opened. Terrain coasters have always fascinated me and there are so few of them around today. To see such an iconic coaster unceremoniously cut up and tossed away like last year's Christmas tree is absolutely heartbreaking to me...and I never actually rode it. I can only imagine how painful it is to see this video for the fans of The Ultimate. Though is is sad to watch, thank you for documenting this difficult part of The Ultimate's history. At some parks they keep parts of removed coasters on site as a sort of memorial to a much missed attraction. I was hoping that Lightwater Valley would do that with The Ultimate but it at least looks like any such memorial will not include the track. Maybe the boarding station will be kept but only time will tell. If possible, please keep filming footage of The Ultimate. Its destruction is part of its history, unfortunately, and should be documented for future coaster enthusiasts.
Ah man. I remember when this opened. Lived in the area so it was big news. Rode it a few times when I was a lad. Last time in about 1995 I think. Was a pleasant ride through the country after the drops
Gutwrenching to watch that!!! Fabulous video Darren, such a shame. Don't think I could ever bring myself to step on Brighton pier again after what they have done to this park.
What a sad end for a brilliant rollercoaster I rode it when it first opened and right up to the final days, lightwater valley is doomed to fail now 😢 maybe that's their plan.
@AdventureMe bit of a long shot but what scrap yard did the track sections go to? I'm going to try and purchase a small cut off section of the track as a momento! Sounds silly I know but kinda cool :D I emailed LWV to ask if I could buy a piece they said no and fobbed me off !
Evening Darren, superb music with this one, even though I've not rode this beast, it's still very sad to see it being dismantled. The park cant survive this especially after nearly all the other main rides were closed too.
They didn't bloody hang about did they! Great footage again, thank you for sharing. Still so sad and angry that they decided to kill it off. Such a pity!
It’s a great shame to see the ride reduced to a load of scrap metal, just think how many thousands of people have enjoyed that ride over the years. Thanks for the video 👍.
Darren ✨️
Wonderful video, and so sad to see something so iconic removed. Sadly we will never know the full reasons behind its removal (for example the costs they would have been quoted to bring it up to standard), however it is interesting to read that last year the Brighton Pier Group made £40M in revenue, LWV did not meet its expected targets (I wonder why), but it will not have cost them too much to have updated it compared to the cost it will be to remove and process its removal. When they removed their thrill rides it was the beginning of the end for LWV, sadly I can see them going the way of American Adventure, Camelot, and others within then next 2-3 years. The Ultimate was their signature, and last remaining hope of recovery, thats gone now.
Such a shame, I only visited this park once so maybe had one or two rides on this as a kid...gutted, I would have loved to have one last ride. At least it's been documented, cheers, brilliant video as always.
Yes I went on this ride… I can’t really bring forward the memory other than knowing that I did it and that it was considered one of the most thrilling rollercoaster rides of the time… my only memory was that build up to the big drop and thinking it was pretty hardcore … but otherwise nothing….. But another memory of Lightwater Valley was the Hell Slide….. one of those almost vertical slides that you had to be dropped down if you were too timid to launch yourself….. otherwise not too much…. Sad to see this ride overgrown with nature and being dismantled….. thanks for the memories….
I shouldn't think the scrappy will see too many of these - but will it eventually include that nice little 'ghost train' at the end or, can we expect rumblings and muffled screams in the future darkness...?
Oh god, you got me at it's ghost travelling past, it's spirit carrying on with rides forever, in our hearts 😭😭😭 6:54 .. and then it's light was turned off. AHHHHH F YOU BRIGHTON PIER GROUP. Sigh. Saddest video in the world.
indeed very sad darren but unlike watching watching just say your lnl vids, this one i actually can remember riding on and bringing thousands of people to the park to enjoy .so in some ways more sadder.still thanks for the vid
Hi, Thank you for taking your time to share this information with us all. I for one very much appreciate your taken time to share this with me. I'd actually experienced riding the Ultimate and it was a very good Roller-coaster. Just like the removal of The Wild Mouse at Blackpool Pleasure Beach I believe removing the Ultimate is a very bad decision made. As it now stands for me, I've no purpose to want to visit Lite Water Valley any longer so alike Camalot, Lite Water Valley may as well close its doors 🚪permanently. It's a terrible loss for the UK 🇬🇧. Considering the factual history behind this ride when it was actually built back in 90's. Thanks again and take care from me Steve in Manchester 🇬🇧
Lightwater Valley most want their heads examined! Why get rid of your most popular and thrilling ride? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. If it needs maintenance - do it! This theme park with lose out massively unless something even better takes it’s place.
That was great.. 👍 i was and wasn't looking forward to this video. Sad times. I have good memories of that place regardless of how bad things ended up. As a kid we couldn't afford to travel to the better places.
Why get rid of this amzing coaster this park so t get anywho without it! I will never come back to this park again this was the main reason I came to this park, but not that it’s gone just makes me sad Rip ultimate ❤️💙 it will always have a place in my heart forever
The Ultimate was the only reason I HEARD of Lightwater Valley in the first place. Visiting meant additional income for the area from hotel rooms and hospitality. No reason to go now.
I recall how the coaster was named via a Radio 1 breakfast show listener participation appeal in 1991. I’m pretty sure it was also featured on ITV’s Jimmy’s documentary series based in a Leeds hospital.
😭😭😭 any chance of saving an iconic piece of history has been taken away forever but at least it hasn't just disappeared, we are seeing it going as it does
Amazingly poignant and beautifully shot; thank you. Is there any unedited drone footage showing the layout of the Ultimate in the wood? I've tried so hard to work out how it twists and turns in such a narrow strip of woodland and there's no map anywhere of its layout. Would love to see your drone footage near the tunnels just extend and hover over the main body of the woodland track. xx. So so so sad, the loss of this visionary coaster.
They have made a huge mistake not refurbing it and keeping it theres no compelling reason for people to go to lightwater any more, its also not the easyest place to get to either, you could argue the same for flamingo land, but they have something for everyone and they contunue to invest.
Sad to see this, I would have been one of the first to ride this shortly after it opened. I've been on it many times since and always thought it would be my kids first big rollercoaster ride but they are still too small 😞 Fantastic video though, the ghost coasters were a fantastic addition 👍
Well this is truly heartbreaking, very sad to see this, they'll send up doing the track which they can get to before attempting to go for the much taller and larger bit, very sad and upsetting, thanks again Darren
The Ultimate Roller-coaster 🎢 was the beating heart ♥️ of ‘Lightwater Valley’. What *is* that theme park gonna 🐝 like 👍 without it? It shall 🐝 sooooooooooooooooo sorely missed 💔.
@@AdventureMe I agree ☝️. I hope 🤞 that a day will come when Lightwater Valley wants to welcome 🤗 back the big thrill rides and decides to build a brand new unprecedented coaster on the land where ‘The Ultimate’ used to reside (or reign) that would draw ✍️ the crowds once again. Imagine, if yo will, they build a new giga-coaster (like Millennium Force at Cedar Point, Sandusky, OH, United States 🇺🇸) there and, like 👍 the Ultimate, has two lift hills 🎢. Or how about, a maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssive corkscrew roller-coaster 🎢 in the likeness of the Ultimate but has loops 🔁, corkscrews, butterfly 🦋 tracks and such likes 👍. It might, for example start off as a launch track before traversing itKs course followed by an Easter 🐣 egg 🥚 in the middle; a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge lift hill 🎢 then followed by more thrill elements. That’d save ‘Lightwater Valley’ from certain death 💀, wouldn’t it? Who knows what might happen in da future.
Lightwater Valley needs boycotting now the place can go under for me now the ultimate is getting demolished. Might aswell turn it back into a farm..it makes me sad but also very angry on the decision it wouldn't suprize me if Brighton pier group sell the park after this
Never thought I’d want a park to go under, but I hope they do 😂 got rid of too many good rides, certainly not a “family” park as they’re as branding as.

Yea kind of had a lump in my throat watching this. The end of an era sad times. So many good memories of this ride growing up.

You can't see it because of the tree cover. But drop me an email I think I have a full site plan. darren@adventureme.co.uk
So sad loved this coaster I’ve had some wonderful times on it with my 2 kids breaks my heart to see it dismantled and thrown on a scrap heap
Me too Elaine. So sad
I'd imagine that there was a significant amount of money in scrap. Put it towards the next big thing 👍
I bet they don't.
The next big thing in Brighton Pier Group is big pockets they want to fill. Greed first.
So very sad, can't believe they have done this, 😢 😞 R.I.P The Ultimate.
Well this is truly heartbreaking, very sad to see this, they'll send up doing the track which they can get to before attempting to go for the much taller and larger bit, very sad and upsetting, thanks again Darren
Utterly heartbreaking 😪
I can't ride roller coasters because of motion sickness, but to those who loved this ride it must be a sad day.
Brilliant very very sad though
oh never got the chance to ride this coaster
So sad it was a cracking ride ❤😅
I do understand why they decided to remove it but sadly I think this is the beginning of the end for Lightwater.
The Ultimate Roller-coaster 🎢 was the beating heart ♥️ of ‘Lightwater Valley’. What *is* that theme park gonna 🐝 like 👍 without it? It shall 🐝 sooooooooooooooooo sorely missed 💔.
Very poor I would imagine
Might aswell turn it back into a farm..it makes me sad but also very angry on the decision it wouldn't suprize me if Brighton pier group sell the park after this
They're quite likely to apply for planning permission for a rash of executive shoeboxes before they do that.
Never thought I’d want a park to go under, but I hope they do 😂 got rid of too many good rides, certainly not a “family” park as they’re as branding as.
Given more time I’m sure this piece of coaster history, could have and should have been saved.🤬
Anyone know which scrap yard the track sections are going too? I want to enquire about obtaining a small cut off !
Very sad. A bit like this country as a whole at the moment 😪
Painful 😣
