What should the next Rush song be?! Let us know down below!
And don’t forget to catch our DRUNK reaction Special this Friday! Cheers friends! 🔥🤟🏻
Limelight is essential Rush. :)
I just saw what you guys have already done. Avoiding the epic (long) stuff, I'd suggest "Analog Kid" from Signals. "Anthem" and "beneath between behind" from Fly By Night both kick ass too.
Limelight pleeeaaaaseee
Hey guys, would love if you reacted to Anthem. An absolute gem that gets overlooked in their catalogue. Thanks again boys!
You guys are getting closer to completing the "Moving Pictures" album. "Limelight" is a must at some point. "Witch Hunt" is the sleeper track...
When "Moving Pictures" came out, everyone was all about "Tom Sawyer." "Red Barchetta" is the one that got me hooked on Rush.
Absolutely. Yep I kind of liked Rush and then I heard Red barchetta followed by limelight. . . I was hooked. . . .
Mine was Bytor and The Snowdog
Tom Sawyer is the worst song on Moving Pictures, the rest of the album freaking incredible. Don't get me wrong, Tom Sawyer is a great song in its own right, but it is the Rush song for people who aren't Rush fans. "The Camera Eye" is the real gem of Moving Pictures, followed by Red Barchetta and Limelight.
@@rodneywoodcock8235 I'm with you. It's an okay tune with some cool bass drum rolls and guitar, but not the 'epic' song every new Rush fan made it out to be. I was like "did you listen to the rest of the album?"
And maybe "YYZ"?
No one sounds like Rush. They created their own genre. Every song is an opus. Rhythmically complex yet catchy as hell. 100 years from now Rush will still floor people.
Eloquently put
Agreed
Agreed thats why i saw them 10 times
You know it's very very rare that the guitarist is the least
talked about in a rock band. Props to Alex Lifeson. Damn beast.
Truth. Alex WAS the melody
This is a song that sounds better the more times you listen to it.
I hated this song when I was young. I just didn't get it when I heard it on the album but the older I get the more I love it. And having seen them do it live because I was lucky enough to see them on the Moving Pictures tour also helped me have a love for it that I never would have had otherwise. It's funny you mention picturing a country drive because that was the scene they picked for the footage in the background that was playing while they played the song. There may well have been some bands as good as RUSH, but there has never been anyone any better in my opinion
Been listening to this since I was 11 years old. It NEVER gets old. Brings back the feeling of hearing this amazing song for the first time every time I hear it.
One of my solid favourite’s from the Rush archives
Giddy Lee - Excellent bassist & a unique voice...LIKE AN AIR SIREN!
@@jasonwilliams6005 Being a 50 year old guy was not part of plan when this was released. Not even sure how many times I have heard it over the years and still not even close to bored of it!
I gave this a 10 first time I heard it. 38 years later, I still rate it a 10.
Neil Peart's lyrics always painted a very clear picture in my mind. Like a little movie with every song.
Actually for this song Neil got inspire by an short story called "A Nice Morning Drive " from Nov 1973 Road and Track magazine. oppositelock.kinja.com/the-story-behind-rushs-red-barchetta-1446791872
@@anthonylenzo3675 Yes, I've heard or read about that.
Diana Jemison well said!
Yet another generation that gets it.
Rush's best song, and one of the top 3 rock songs ever, IMHO.
This is still Rush's perfection album to me. Not a weak moment from start to finish. Beautiful production and balance. This track is perfectly placed after Tom Sawyer and before YYZ on the LP
I think it's their worst of that era. I actually find the repitition annoying.
Flawless album with a perfectly judged flow from start to finish. This is where listening to individual tracks misses out the context of the track within the whole piece. That can't be helped, really.
It's interesting to see two statements, in such direct opposition. Just proves Rush's music is highly subjective. I'm in the middle... Hit and misses on every album. So, there ya go, ya? haha I think that's a good thing. Stimulates conversation! ;)
@Martin Kulkarni He's one of those old rush pretentious snobs. If it was popular by the masses, he CAN'T like it. Moving pictures by any first time listener is incredible and as a 40 yr rush fan, I still love it.
My favorite RUSH album too. I also got to see this tour. Most underrated band ever!!!
Moving Pictures is a masterpiece. This song is a masterpiece within a masterpiece. One of the best albums of all time! And one of the best songs of all time!
wtf mad tune my first time hearing it too
Still as good as when it was new when I was a kid!
@@genedrakes686 I'm still spinning the original vinyl LP of Moving Pictures that i bought back in the day !!
In the music, I can hear the tires squealing, the gears shifting, and the wind blowing through my hair. The sounds of freedom, even if only a brief moment. I am ready for the sequel.
Red Barchetta is a song about an imagined future where gas-fueled cars are outlawed (Motor Law), so the "old machine", preserved for "fifty odd years", is taken out for a "weekly crime".
Understanding cars isn't really necessary as much as just appreciating the power of a gas-fueled engine that cannot be duplicated by any other known technology.
Also, regarding Getty's voice. He sings in this range because it's the only range of the audio spectrum where there's room for him in the guitar/bass/drums mix. This is why a lot of vocalists throughout the 80's began singing in such high ranges.
Not just gas fueled cars but "personal vehicles" are outlawed. Peart touches on the theme of individuality in so many of his songs. Personal freedom is a core tenant of his lyrical philosophy.
This
Sounds just like the American Communist Democratic Party
John Alves Sure, lets all just do whatever we all want. Nature be damned. Unfortunately, we’ll all be dead before our generation is called to task, not only for the damage we did, but for the fact that we could have stopped it, but did nothing. Why? Apparently cause we couldn’t be bothered to stop doing whatever the fuck we wanted. It’s also funny how you bitch about communism, yet your favorite president is going ass to mouth with the biggest endorser of communism in the world. To the point that he’s given them names of our secret agents & allowed them to ‘accidentally’ see Top Secret intelligence. How do you make that all work in your head? I’m really curious to know what mental gymnastics you must have to do so it all makes sense in your little world.
Neil got inspire for this song by an short story publish in Nov 1973 Road and Track magazine called "A Nice Morning Drive" oppositelock.kinja.com/the-story-behind-rushs-red-barchetta-1446791872
and do not forget gents... 3 musicians only! Playing multiple instruments simultaneously !!! Just WOW!... Neil Peart !!!!
Thank you for your reactions. This is a really important song for me, and you both get it.
And I'm....many years older than you.
One of my all time favorite Rush songs is “The Trees”.
It has been 40 years for me, and I NEVER tire of hearing this song... or anything on this album.
This song has put me in danger of speeding tickets many, many times!
I know exactly what you mean in fact I was 23 years old and had cranked up this song and drove 92 miles an hour in a 55 zone in Fort Wayne and I was bonged out of my head!!!
Warp speed, Mr Sulu!
@@jr-xs9tf Right On🤘🤘🍻🍀👊
@@jenniferbearden4518 this song could turn a little scooter into a proper race bike.
@@atomicat I wouldn't damn doubt it one bit!!! It just geeks ya up ya know!!!
Camera Eye is a great one too. When the guitar starts playing at about 2:10 into the song, it reminds me of an action/ adventure movie theme. It's 11 minutes long, but well worth it.
A great song that ive actually heard live back in the early 90s
Clayton Cox maybe my favorite Alex solo
Oh definitely one of my all time fave Rush songs
My fav from this album
There's an amazing video for that song with footage of NYC and London. Captures the essence of the song perfectly.
Peart did some of his very best writing here, such a cool song RIP.
You summed it up well saying Rush are Musicians Musicians, proven over decades by great Musicians staring it. If you can play Rush you can play anything.
M 40 Great point, both aspects of their songs are so strong separately. Neil’s lyrics could easily be a great book of poetry and stories. So much goes on in the music.
Billy Corgan, who founded and leads Smashing Pumpkins, says 'if you can play 'La Villa Strangiato' by Rush, you can play almost anything.
Just listen to the entire Moving Pictures album. Definitely Rush’s best album (to my taste at least) and possibly the greatest album ever, by anyone.
While they are playing this in concert, they show the windshield view of a car on the screen behind them doing exactly what you talked about: just flying through some mountainous turns on the road.
Good tune. Every once in a while I have to remind myself that it's a 3 man band...even though I've seen them live.
Many years ago, while on deployment, my wife sent me a care package which included some motorcycle magazines I was subscribed to. (Cycle, or Cycle World) There was an article in there where the author talked about listening to this song while riding the Ortega Highway (Hwy 74 from Lake Elsinore over the mountain to San Juan Capistrano). It just happened to be my favorite road to ride almost every weekend, and one of my favorite songs. I think it was Peter Egan if anyone cares to search, and probably Cycle World, mid 90's.
Anyway, this is a great song for driving. The article was a great tribute to the song and that road.
Limelight is a "banger"
I think I'm too old to use that term
@MrDeadstu
Nonsense! This is Banger Central whom all who enjoy bangers are welcome! 🤟🏻🔥
Limelight definitely bro bros see ya Friday Cheers🤙🤘
Limelight is my ringtone and has been for years.... Problem is I never want to answer it!
I'm not a fan of the term "banger" reminds me of Miley cyrus and she should never be associated with the band Rush! Lmao
Limelight and Tom Sawyer are to the only Rush songs that I heard live for the first time
Have you guys watched Beyond The Lighted Stage documentary yet? I highly highly recommend it. It tells their story perfectly. My wife who isn't even a fan loved it.
Robert Besserer my wife too!
Or the documentary on Rush in Rio. That's a really good watch as well
Best rock-umentary ever made. Then see "Time Stand Still." There never was a music group like this and there never will be again.
I am a huge Who fan, I've met every member of The Who except for Keith Moon. I've never been able to get my wife to go to a Who concert or watch The Kids Are Alright with me. 2 weeks ago I started watching Beyond The Lighted Stage and my wife watched it too. Now she loves Rush. This just blows my mind. And it's all good!
This song is like a good bottle of wine it gets better with age
One of my favorites , for me it was a totally rebellious song , sneaking out the car speeding , outrunning the police , making it home safe . Im glad to see the younger guys appreciating the art in the Rush Songs .
I love how these guys just close their eyes and let the song flow through them like The Force!!!
I’m firmly convinced that Neal Peart could visualize each note in his head as he wrote them. I think some people can visualize music in their mind, that’s why they are such exceptional songwriters and musicians.
Imagine running countryside to these Rush songs ! All you see is cows eyes at night gazing at you. RUSH 4real !!
Closer to the heart great song by Rush
New roommate asked, "Can you play 'Red Barchetta' " ?
"I'm gonna try." (I knew it well.)
Played it perfectly for him. With all the harmonics and such. ;-)
"Exit Stage Left" changed my music listening life forever...
Me too. ESL was my first Rush experience. By the end of Red Barchetta - the second song - I knew I was going to be a big fan. I'd never heard rock music being played like that before. All that glorious sound from just three guys!
Me to
Me too.
What changed my listening life forever was back in 1975 when I went to a Uriah Heap concert in Duluth Minnesota and these three kids from Toronto opened for them. Had never heard of Rush before and this was just before the release of 2112 and remember them playing songs from the pre-release. Next day after the concert, I went to the local record store and bought every album that they had out at the time. Rush, Fly By Night, and Caress of Steel. Never looked back since.
I saw that tour. I was 16.
Love how the bass almost had the lead on this one. The perfect album u should dig into.
👍 👍
For those who like to read... The following is from wiki.
"The song was inspired by the futuristic short story "A Nice Morning Drive", written by Richard Foster and published in the November 1973 issue of Road and Track magazine. The story describes a similar future in which increasingly stringent safety regulations have forced cars to evolve into massive Modern Safety Vehicles (MSVs), capable of withstanding a 50-mile-per-hour (80 km/h) impact without injury to the driver. Consequently, drivers of MSVs have become less safety-conscious and more aggressive, and "bouncing" (intentionally ramming) the older, smaller cars is a common sport among some.[1]
Rush drummer and lyricist Neil Peart made several attempts to contact Foster during the recording of Moving Pictures, but Road and Track did not have an up-to-date address, and Rush were forced to settle for a brief "inspired by" note in the lyric sheet mentioning the story. In July 2007, Foster and Peart finally made contact with one another. Foster later posted on his website an account of their journey by motorcycle through the backwoods of West Virginia between stops on Rush's 2007 Snakes & Arrows Tour.

"A brilliant red Barchetta from a better, vanished time ..."
Barchetta, literally "small boat" in Italian, is the diminutive form of barca ("boat" or "craft"). In the automotive industry, the term is used for a two-seat car without any kind of roof. The proper Italian pronunciation is Italian pronunciation: [barˈketta], although it is sung with /tʃ/ by Geddy Lee. [2] Neil Peart's favorite car is the 1948 Ferrari 166MM ″Barchetta″. [3]
Lyrics
The song's lyrics tell a story set in a future in which many classes of vehicles have been prohibited by "the Motor Law". The narrator's uncle has kept one of these now-illegal vehicles (the titular red Barchetta sports car) in pristine condition for some "fifty-odd years" and keeps it hidden at his secret country home (previously a farm before the enactment of the aforementioned Motor Law). Every Sunday, the narrator sneaks out to this location and goes for a drive in the countryside, which he describes as "his weekly crime". During one such drive, he encounters a "gleaming alloy air car" that begins to chase him along the roads. A second such vehicle soon joins the pursuit, which continues until the narrator drives across a one-lane bridge that is too narrow for the air cars. The song ends with the narrator returning safely to his uncle's farm."

Nice! Thank you♡
The story car was an MG. They story of the motorcycle ride with Neil is worth a read. Turns out they both owned similar motorcycles. The author found out about this song years after it came out and was amazed anyone remembered it, nonetheless made a great song out of it.
Thanks for the information - I had heard of this anecdotally but did not have the details! This song literally brings tears to my eyes... Cheers!
Awesome!, Thanks👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
One of the most succinct explanations of rush ever. They make complicated music sound simple and digestible. That’s exactly it. They don’t want to labor your brain, they do the work for you. All great explanations. That’s because they’re generous and kind Canadians, who don’t want to out you out. So they do all the work, scrub the floors, and all you have to do is sit back and marvel at their craft. I was lucky enough to be into them in 1976 and to see them close to 40 times. There will never be another band where all three musicians are virtuosos like they were.
It's about time you got to this jam! Definitely one of their best in my opinion! Just beware, don't crank this up while driving. You'll find yourself doing 100mph without even realizing! Haha.
Hilarious
True dat.
Robert G So So True!
I was about to say the same thing. I have to make sure that I have cruise control on or my foot becomes more leaden
It's hard to believe those sounds come from just 3 guys.
I love this album, for me this was the peak of their career, every song is a winner
A great older Rush song is A Farewell To Kings. Absolutely beautiful song -- one of my favorites. It's also got lyrics which apply so much to today's environment.
One of my favorites right there, that entire album is good tbh with you!
This is one of Geddy's best vocal performances IMHO. Voice never stronger than here.
Ginger Baker of Cream and Blind Faith (and other bands) fame passed away Sunday...one of the greatest drummers of all time...RIP Ginger
What a great album brings me back to my days of high school where Rush ruled the airwaves. But your Rush reactions won’t be complete until you listen to LIMELIGHT probably their biggest song to get the most radio airplay. You won’t be disappointed
go back to their older catalog of songs and check out ANTHEM!
Rush is one of those bands that you can't ask someone to judge based on one song. Back in the day (the 70s), we'd buy an album and listen to the whole thing. Maybe young people today still do that, I don't know. But that's how we'd decide if the newest album was good or not. By the way, Andy, that t-shirt just screams 70s. Good one!
@unklscrufy
I hear ya! And thanks! 🤪🔥🤟🏻
- Andy
Also Alex did a fine job explaining the difference between Rush and Tool. I love reactions videos but I prefer to have some kind of analysis as well. I would love the guys to check out other prog bands from the '70s. Roundabout by Yes would blow their minds.
I've been a high school teacher for 26 years. It is pretty much one "song" at a time for our youth. I'll play things like this almost like "bumper" music in class....right before the bell, or as the kids are coming in for the next class. Of course, since my musical tastes go from Louis Armstrong to Hank Williams, Jr. to Slipknot, the kids don't have a clue what to expect. That being said, I have over 450 quotes hanging on the walls of my classroom. Only one of the quotes is from the lyrics of a song. "Something for Nothing." I think the chorus of the song is a message that kids need to think about.
I actually prefer listening to all the Moving Pictures songs together. Thematically, they don't need to be, but I always think of that album as a whole. That said, you guys need to listen to Witch Hunt.
Michael Rice When I bought this album many years ago(on vinyl of course) I only listened to the first side. I never bothered w/ the second side. What an idiot. Years later, when my vinyl copy was so worn out and scratched up, I bought the CD. Only then did I listen to the whole thing and loved it (of course again). All the wasted years. ; )
Witch Hunt 👍👍👍 A perfect analogy for American politics today. Especially discriptive of the current republican party. Neil nailed our distopian future(the present) bang on.
Rip, Professor 😭
I'd say for the next Rush reaction do Limelight. It's one of their more popular radio friendly ones.
Limelight definitely!
My favorite Alex solo.
Good call
I think they already did Limelight.
@@patrickq7489 when I looked it up it didn't come up, so no.
P.S the cover of the album is QUEENS PARK. CITY HALL TORONTO CANADA
I always feel like I am driving through forest roads when listening to this. Such a wonderful break in the day to take a mental vacation.
Autobahn, Germany.
39 years later, still as good. I remember listening to that whole album over and over back in '81. Great work, and a riveting story.
Moving Pictures is Rush's Dark Side of the Moon!
Finally finally finally you guys put on red barchetta God bless you boys! Be prepared for a real treat!
Gotta do Natural Science guys! If you think The Spirit of Radio is a 10 then Natural Science will be an 11 😉
My all time favorite Rush song
Rock songs about a car: “I’m In Love With My Car” by Queen comes to mind. And “Red Barchetta” is based on a Sci Fi short story; Neil Peart lists it in the liner notes on the album
Just guessing that this movie is the same story ... www.imdb.com/title/tt0082642/?ref_=tt_urv ... Canadian film I believe.
ZZ Top, She Loves My Automobile
It's called "A Nice Morning Drive" by Richard S. Foster. It was originally published in Road and Track magazine in 1973.
You can find it online (though I'm unsure of its copyright status so I won't link it here)
Detroit Rock City by Kiss. Panama by Van Halen. Driven by Rush..
The song is about rebellion against a dystopian society which forces conformity. The vehicle (Red Barchetta) is only there to exemplify Neil’s individualistic strive for freedom from normality. Neil was obsessed with Free Will and philosophy in general. Neil had Jesse Panniers on his BMW because they were the largest aftermarket you can buy. Neil would buy ten books at a time and the regular sized panniers did not allow for such indulgence. There is no person I enjoyed more in an interview. His command of the English language, thought processes and rules for life and living remind me of another Canadian known as Jordan Peterson. In my mind both are professors. RIP Neil Peart, songwriter, drummer, poet, philosopher, author, traveler, and all around renaissance man. “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice!”
I agree with everyone. Limelight def Limelight. We ALL play air drums to Limelight. Welcome to my youth. I still like to re-live those days.
One of my absolute favorites of their songs, in a list that contains, well most of their songs, but this one grabbed me from the first second I heard it...When I heard it on Exit Stage Left and then saw them live(my first ever concert)it went right to the top! Glad to see you guys "get" not only the music but also the greatness of Rush!!
I bought this album when it came out I had a kick ass Yamaha stereo that I just sold last year. Cost over 2,000$ in 1979. Should have bought stock. Haha
This is my favorite song on album. It predicted the green movement and loss of freedom to a tee.
When you rate Rush turn it up to an eleven.
This whole album is a 10. Every cut. No joke. This is an epic record. This album absolutely ranks as one of the best LPs of all time.
Every song on this album is amazing! Love this. Odd that it’s your Mom’s favorite song and you never heard it!
Lisa Crowder ahaha another slip.also “over the years his voice”
@Lisa Crowder
There’s several songs I’ve been needing to get for a long time now haha, it happens
And she took him to a concert but didn't hear the Spirit of Radio or Red Barcetta.
MrLedotson oh well we will let them go as long as they’re getting their homework done
A woman that likes Rush? That is so cool.
La Villa Strangiato and Red Barchetta are my absolute top 2 favorite Rush songs.
So glad you guys loved it. Read the lyrics sometime. It's a cool sci-fi dystopian story
Perfect album. I would listen to Natural Science next dudes!
LOL! That's the song I recommended as well.....
Natural Science is phenomenal. Perfect song to introduce anyone to what made Rush so good.
Me too, it’s the best
Dan Finkel Hell yeah quintessential Rush imo
Can't go wrong with anything by Rush. Best group of musicians ever.☮️
Love how you guys hang on and listen to every single last note, there are subtle amazing things in the fade out of this one and you caught them all! Great reaction to a timeless classic for sure. This album was one of the perfect rock albums ever made I feel, everything about Rush that is great came to being on this album and it was their best produced album as well! Every tone is amazing.
Same album, longer song with many moods but the most incredible orchestration of rock I have ever heard is "The Camera Eye". You guys would flip trust me! And the guitar solo at the end is one of the most ridiculously composed solos ever written, pure genius and mastery. Hope you guys react to The Camera Eye sometime soon! Not commercial, but a prog/rock/epic masterpiece.
ash well said, camera eye, a must listen
"Witch Hunt", from the same album....
Guys trust me on this all 4 are 10's Marathon, Natural Science, The Camera Eye, By-Tor and the Snow Dog. I'm am so enjoying watching you guys hearing these songs for the first time. It makes me relive how I felt the first time I heard them which was usually same day as release 🙂 I've seen them 57 times total since Hemispheres and twice in the front row.
Robert I so agree , hope they do the live versions,
Great reaction, guys! I can't believe I missed this one from you! RB is such an amazing song. It is Rush doing their "Story Teller', mini-epic style songs. There's so much going on in this tune but it fits the lyrics perfectly! Hey guys, have done Rush's "Between The Wheels" yet? It's from their 1984 Grace Under Pressure album and it's amazing! You should check it out if you haven't already!
Ok, now you have to do Bastille Day to add to the list of Rush bangers.
Cygnus X-1: Book One: The Voyage Prologue
Interestingly, I live adjacent to a private "street" called Cygnus Cr.. It runs off Deneb St. (Deneb being the brightest star in the constellation Cygnus) The developer must have been either a fan of astronomy or a fan of Rush! Maybe both 😁
play Rush Distant early warning
Dave Scampilano agree
Dave Scampilano there’s no swimming in the heavy water, no singing in the acid rain...
Dave Scampilano oh hell yeah! Distant Early Warning is me of my favorites as well.
Do you guys know what Distant Early Warning actually is / was? It'll blow your mind!
@@MattCaspermeyer no, pls explain??
I always wish I could hear rush again for the first time and relive those goosebumps. I mean I still get them bumps but nothing beats the first time feeling it throughout your whole body.
Alex Lifeson's natural harmonics, to me, are what give this song its unique personality. I hate that Alex has always lived in the recognition shadows of Geddy and Neil, because he is absolutely top notch.
And I’ll bet he has never ever cribbed about that!
I saw this tour at The Fox theater in Atlanta, an old, beautifully restored movie palace. Lee was playing a double neck guitar with a bass and rhythm. He’d play rhythm on that, alternating with bass pedals with his feet AND SING! It was incredible. So much sound for three guys. I’ve never, ever forgotten it.
Almost all of the songs on Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures got some radio play in the early 80's. Rock radio was a much different animal back in those days.
You two are great, always stay friends...👍
If you haven’t done it yet -- I think you’re next ‘must’ hear Rush song should be “Jacob’s Ladder”
Like 2112, this is a sci-fi story and a rock song combined. Just don’t get enough sci-fi in my rock and roll. Thanks for another awesome reaction. ✌️
This rush song won’t get requested much compared to the others but please listen to
Rush a passage to Bangkok
Guys, this makes me so happy. I'm 58, semi-professional musician. I first heard rush in 1977 when a friend handed me an 8-track of 2112. It blew my mind and it's remained blown ever since. Rush is my favorite band although others have come and gone. Your reactions are the same as mine, and my guitar playing friends in high school. This is so much fun watching you guys experience the same thing 40 years later. Rush!
Another album. Sampling only one or two songs you will miss out. Put it on your list to come back to this one big time. Enjoy!
Yes. Rush is not a Song band. They are an album band. Every track on their albums has a purpose and a place on the track list where it all flows.
You hit the nail on the head at the end ... everyone always talks about how great of a guitarist Alex is and how great of a bassist Geddy is. But honestly, and this album is full of this, what makes them great is how they construct the guitar melody and the bass counter melody during the instrumental sections of the song. The counter melody bass work in this song, and Limelight too, is just second to none. It's the two parts together that really, really make their sound ... with Neil's great drumming too of course.
It's been said many times but Limelight should be next. It's one of those songs that will just just suddenly pop into my head randomly no matter what I'm doing!
All of us Rush fans are so happy that you've found and love Rush. One of the greatest rock bands ever.....and just 3 dudes!
Rush was transitioning from a prog band to a more conventional sound during this time. Moving Pictures represents some of their best songs in terms of writing and tight musicianship imho. Of course, their prog masterpieces are in a class by themselves.
Best Story Within A Song Ever.
Suggestion: A live double shot from Rush in Rio: Leave that Thing Alone/O Baterista. A later instrumental plus Neil Peart drum god festival.
Alex just articulated what I love so much about Rush, and Alex Lifeson in particular. For the rock genre, he plays a lot of truly weird, atonal shit, but you never notice it because he makes it sound so musical.
Closer to heart boys a must listen 😍🇨🇦
The bass line in this song especially gets me every time I hear it. Definitely one of my favorite Rush songs. (Not sure if I could ever decide on just 1 that I'd call my absolute favorite.) A few other suggestions by these awesome guys:

Marathon
Mystic Rhythms
Body Electric
Distant Early Warning
Limelight
“One of my moms favorite songs”. LOL your mom is cool.

Bytor and the Snowdog 🧝♂️ Are you ready for battle with an evil prince? The knight of darkness has traveled to the north light and Eth is in the air. His caravan awaits at the river styx. Standing at the gate of hades your nemesis awaits. 🌬🗡
Interesting as a fan of Rush for almost 40 years to hear that you guys responded to this song just as it was intended in the concept of "Moving Pictures". Each song on there is intended to be an audio "version" of a movie. Red Barchetta is likewise intended to make you feel the different aspects of the song - whether it be the thrill of "discovering" the covered car in the barn, or iracing through the countryside with reckless abandon.
I can never go back and hear these songs for the first time, but it's a genuine thrill to watch you guys experience it together!
The greats always make it seem simple... until you pay attention to the details. Glad you said "It's a different 10."
How many times have you listened to Spirit of Radio now? Limelight should be next. Great song, great lyrics,
@LocoSoloLobo
The Spirit of Radio has been listened to probably 26 since times since that recording, haha.
@@andyandalex I grew up in Southern Ontario so I've heard it ten bazillion times and I'm still not sick of it. Timeless.
@@locosololobo9972 yeah!!!
I love Limelight. My favorite from Moving Pictures.
For 30 years I have been addicted to the insanely beautiful natural harmonics
Read the lyrics while listening to it again it's pretty clear what the story is about...
You guys should do a little research on Wikipedia or something on what you listen to so you're not just shooting in the dark with assumptions or looking for your fans to fill in the blanks. We want to see you have that aha moment when you get it and understand how the fan who listen to the song a hundred times get it... Just my two cents worth. Keep up the good work.
Yeah, I’m surprised that they don’t pull up the lyrics on their phones. Whenever I’m listening to a new song (or even an old one, sometimes) I like to have the lyrics handy, if at all possible, since they’re often (particularly in this band’s case) really important to understanding the overall intention of the song.
This is true, checking the lyrics is not ruining your first reaction. It helps you.
Cool
I disagree. Lyrics can be distracting. First listen, let the music flow over you. Tackle the lyrics on later listens and then appreciate it on a whole other level (especially Rush where the lyrics are usually significant). That being said, Red Barchetta is not their deepest song lyrically, but what makes it great is that the lyrics and the music blend together perfectly to tell a simple, moving story of rebellion, nostalgia, and fast red cars.
@@daneng3641 I COMPLETELY agree with the wash over you first path. I only suggested lyrics for second listen when these guys missed the meaning so much. Not sure how that happened as you said this is not a too complicated song for Rush. I don't like when reactors ask their audience or fans a whole bunch of common Sense questions. It's easy to look stuff up on your phone after listening and Including that part in the reaction, the aha moment when they learn what the true fan already knows is priceless. Too bad only a few go the distance like that... Soul Train Bro does this to the extreme.
Great to see youngsters who recognize good music.
Try The Big Money if you want to hear some of their 80's new wave phase. Probably their weakest phase but you could always count on 3 or 4 good songs per album.
So weird. I'm listening to power windows on Spotify now and big money just played. Geez, "Marathon" is rocking too. Forgot how great that album is and Grace Under Pressure is. It's not as new wave sounding to me now. Some of the later albums had more of that. Too much greatness from Rush. All eras imo.
@@MrAitraining Ah Marathon. My #1 Rush song. Always makes me emotional when I listen to it, especially the last chorus.
weakest no, more synth that the older fans didnt like yes, but man, the weapon enemy within, red sector A, plus as per the band, they were in their prime.
