    I'm so tired of literal giant corporate brands claiming that they're anarchist somehow. Like, you're *heavily* participating in capitalism with your expensive ass, branded clothes. You can't have it both ways. Anarchism is not an aesthetic lmao.

      @VALERIA LATORRE AHUMADA Anarcho-capitalism isn't actually anarchism though - "ancaps" use the term anarchy to mean "no government", whereas every other anarchist uses it to mean "no hierarchy". Capitalism is in itself a hierarchical system - and so being an "ancap" is an oxymoron. They can be right libertarians, but don't let them try to convince you they share any similarities with actual anarchists when they prop up a system built on class divide.

    given her popularity it’s surprises me how nobody talks about when dollskill straight up stole from bella/internetgirl. they had a relationship for a long time and eventually even sold bella’s igirl pendants on their website. but only a couple months later the pendants were off the website and instead they were selling a rip-off of bella’s she devil pendant and earrings. she’s said she doesn’t have a relationship with them anymore and no longer puts their items in her depop bundles. when it happened i couldn’t even believe how they’d even steal from someone they had such a good relationship with. they have no limits.

  • @geenicah

    The other issue with the statement about the "goth is white" shirt is that they're basically saying "well we didn't intend it to be racist so if it had that impact it's not our problem." I'm going to paraphrase from Rachel Cargle, who is a lecturer who educates on anti-racism: If you accidentally step on someone's foot, don't you still apologize? Why? Because the impact is that they're in pain, even if the intent was not to hurt anyone.
    Editing this to add that if you're arguing over whether the t-shirt was intended to be racist or not, you didn't read my comment. I was explaining how the "apology" and how the statement "I didn't intend to hurt anyone," was irrelevant. If people from the Black community are saying they were hurt by it, just say "I'm sorry, and I'll do better." Why does it matter what your intentions are? Centering your intentions is making it all about you instead of the apology. The end result is still hurt, and if you aren't part of the community being hurt, you have no right to say if they're allowed to be hurt or not.

      People are also really touchy these days. If it said "Goth is Black" would people be upset? I dunno. It's just really weird to me how easily people get upset these days, enough to cancel tv shows and being upset at a cartoon character from Paw Patrol lol. In context, I don't see a huge issue but I kind of get why it might sound wrong (and since Dolls Kill is known for issues I wouldn't be surprised if it was a racist shirt).

    • @AnnaHeey
      @AnnaHeey 4 роки тому +100

      @@BooksToAshes i get that you're annoyed by people being overly sensitive. But this shirt is a different story. The Goth Style is often associated with a very pale, white skin, which is the reason why people think of skin color when they see the phrase "goth is white". Which is quite racist if that was what they meant, as no style should be defined by your skin color. If it said "goth is black" people would associate it with the colour of the clothing. The phrases "goth is white" and "goth is black" are totally different in the way that it comes across.

    • @AnnaHeey
      @AnnaHeey 4 роки тому +44

      @Winter Wonder The Goth Style is often associated with a very pale, white skin, which is the reason why people think of skin color when they see the phrase "goth is white". Because in the goth style, what could be white? Oh yeah, skin colour. Which is quite racist if that was what they meant, as no style should be defined by your skin color. If it said "goth is black" people would associate it with the colour of the clothing, as goth style is defined by the black clothing. The phrases "goth is white" and "goth is black" are totally different in the way that it comes across.

I’ve talked to many people who are ignorant of the fact that “Gypsy” was originally a racial slur against the Romani people, or that “Gypsy” people are a different race (indo-aryan). Gypsy is not just a cool way to describe your free spirited lifestyle.

Just know that sustainable and ethical clothing will always be more expensive because that is how much it costs pay their workers a living wage etc.

If they link to another site, it might get hacked/spread faulty information/..., whereas by linking on their own site, they have complete control over what information they spread. The pop-up I'm sure is just a default in their coding, I don't think that's something that should be judged too harshly.
    On what you said about them being lazy for asking their followers about black owned businesses: don't you think that small businesses might have more chance to get found by them, rather then when their researching on their own without input? It might actually be a good thing.

      i was an avid Dolls Kill purchaser until this surfaced. I think if people still continue to buy from the brand after this, it's because of two reasons: they either feel that Dolls Kill is genuinely turning a new leaf orrrr it's because the brand is one of the most well known alt stores with a varied catalog of aesthetics, which is why I bought from them in the first place. It'll definitely be more of an easier transition for people who might still lean on the brand if, in conjunction to bringing awareness to Dolls Kill's controversy, we also suggest alternative, more ethical alt brands that aren't as well known.

    Someone in the dollskill chain of production should have caught these before they were ever sold - how many eyes had to approve those items? And the portion of the proceeds? How is their solution to literally to market specific items to us? They ask us what brands to sell back to us, that then makes them more money. I always heard about their past f*ckups so never spent my money there. Also thanks for speeding up her videos. I literally couldn't get through them when they were posted because she sounded sooo disingenuous.

    Thank you for making this video! Personally, I was willfully ignorant for a while. This was many years ago back in high school, before I became an activist as well as anti-fast fashion, but I just didn’t care. It’s so embarrassing for me to admit that but I think it’s important to admit it. Nobody is perfect and everyone has their flaws- mine was my stubbornness. Since it wasn’t directly effecting me, I justified it. Now, I use my stubbornness for good causes and I am SO happy that I am not that person I was in HS anymore. I can’t believe I gave a disgusting company like this my money, I wish I could take it all back. Thank you, again, for making this video and for using your platform to speak up. ❤️❤️

    The second apology of Shoddy's you showed just reeks of bullshit cuz at one point she straight up lied. I've been shopping at dolls kill for years and years and they only added plus sized clothes a few years ago. So when she said she started dolls kill to cater to people of all shapes and sizes I was like hmm idk about that lol. And as you said, for awhile they only had white or white passing super thin models on their website. I could be wrong, but even in around 2017/2016 they had very little diversity on their website. (And to be clear, I don't shop at dolls kill anymore).

      @@Iamandrey I don't see how they were being rude. And also, there are plenty of places that order clothes from China that also have plus sized clothing. A I used to work in a “brand” like this and I kinda know how it works. I said “Brand” because it is not really a brand, it’s just a freaking reseller.. look at their jewelry for example.. you can find exactly the same things on TaoBao, the same problem with clothes.. they just buy the clothes from Chinese sellers and then they redesign their labels (if they even do that).
