I don't know what it is about Elizabeth Short's murder that has made people totally dehumanise her, worse than any other victim of a crime I can think of. Perhaps it's the fact that she was given the depersonalised moniker "Black Dahlia" by the press that's made people forget that she was a real person, with a real family who died after suriviving days of horrific torture. It honestly breaks my heart
People forget that she was a real person who died in a horrific way and then was also left cut up and naked in plain sight. It’s just disgusting what society has done to her.
My friend has a shirt with “bundy” printed on it. She got told to take it off at college or put a hoodie over the top..... I don’t think they realised it’s her last name even though it’s on her ID card 😂
I live in Brazil where the Charles Manson case is not so well known. One day I saw a friend of mine that doesn't speak English wearing a tshirt with Manson's face on it that said "proud to be psycho" (I think it was from a brand called Blunt), I asked him if he knew what it said and who it was, he said "is something about being proud to be crazy, right?". I explained him the meaning and the story, he was so shook that he cutted the shirt into pieces and threw it way. It is so bad that brands put it out there and some people use it without even knowing.
I had a Black Dahlia t-shirt, I'm from Latin America and I really didn't know about her case. I can't say that I threw it voluntarily, it just got too old to be used, but now that I'm aware of what happened I feel really bad for using that stupid t-shirt.
the girl with nail art in your first photo also has a sleeve of multiple portraits of serial killers all along her arm. which you didn't cover in your tattoo video so i thought i'd bring it up
I used to follow her on Tumblr! But later realized she had serial killer tattoos and unfollowed her. I don't understand the obsession. It's not edgy and its not cool.
infernal saint yeah like why not have horror movie ones like Hannibal or Chucky etc why go for real serial killers who murdered real people? Don’t get the mentality
infernal saint I’ve seen people bring it up in her comment section and she always gets very defensive and upset and refuses to acknowledge why it’s wrong
Kim Brulee-I totally agree. It's one thing to have a fascination with true crime, & learning the facts behind those cases out of wanting to gain insight into what goes on in the minds of killers who commit these horrible crimes, that I can understand. But to be so obsessed with these killers that you get tattoos of them on your body, or t shirts with pics of them or their victims, is just wrong on so many levels.
She also likes to play like putting headlines in the background of some of the tattoos makes it magically less edgy and disrespectful. She used to claim it was because she was studying crime in school... yeeeeeah.
Frankie Fratchermen Disney is a kids based company, and while adults can enjoy it just as much having a freaking serial killer on your Mickey Mouse ears is fucking insane.
My parents told me how scary it was to be in the Los Angeles area because of how random it was. He didn’t have a pattern or anything so everyone was nailing down their windows. To put that on Disney ears is unnerving
Luckily it’s just “fanmade” and small shop rather than Disney itself so I would word it more as Disney inspired rather than Disney itself since it wasn’t the Disney company who made it and supports that.
Hey Sarah, I’ve noticed there’s been a disturbing ‘trend’ going round, where people have been visiting Elizabeth short’s grave whilst wearing makeup recreating her injuries from the crime scene and taking pictures. I have also seen it with other victims and killers, and was wondering about your opinion on the matter. I personally find it really creepy and disturbing. Xx
Wow, what an assholes. Completely fucked in the head selfish pricks. They now have the *privilege* to dress up, cause they're alive and well, UNLIKE the poor victims. Oh my god, it breaks my heart just thinking about it. It's not just disrespectful, it's simply unfair - Elizabeth's t-shirt and these 'cosplays' are the apogee of that
This makes me livid. I visited her grave about a year and a half ago. I talked to her, cried, left her a tiny gift. To think these ignorant idiots are out there doing this....
It’s so fucked up. Many people have posted pictures on Instagram at the spot where she was found dead. Most of them are laying down “recreating the scene” as if it was a movie. They think it’s cool or trendy. It’s disgusting
Kinda reminds me of that gross trend of people on Tik Tok pretending to be a victim of Bundy. I cannot stand these unempathetic assholes belittling victims of murder. I really don't understand it
wearing a shirt that has a victim’s body on it is the most depraved, attention-seeking move I can think of. It’s exactly the same as that shirt with Cobain’s suicide note on it. Disgusting.
thank you for not saying that jonestown was a mass suicide, it was a mass murder seeing as many people were forcefully injected (also the kids couldn’t understand what they were doing) I’m interested in cults so it irks me when people misrepresent what happened
So true. And if you listen to the tapes some of the kids did catch on to what was happening and tried to run off but their parents forced them to drink the poison as were other people. There are people questioning if this is the right thing and he makes fun of them and has the crowd turn on them.
I had to research the jim jones case for a study at uni and if you listen to the recordings you can hear kids screaming in pain from cyanide poisoning it made me so depressed and sick but I'm glad I assist in putting bastards like that away now
@@melloncollie3321 idk if inspired by and having a whole ass killer face on your shirt are the same thing. A whole different vibe in my personal opinion
Serial killer merch is pathetic and tasteless, but the crime scene shirts are something else. I really feel that anyone who would wear an actual corpse on their body is clinically disturbed, along with the person who designed it.
@VILLAINY PM oh wow thanks genius I never thought of that 🙄🙄🙄🙄 it's called common sense and decency. Don't create merchandise celebrating real sadistic rapists and murderers, and DO NOT create merch displaying a real murder scene. People who make or wear this shit should go on some kind of watchlist... Merch from horror movies is different, it's not real. REAL murderers and murder scenes are off limits and people should feel disgusted. It's a matter of respect too.
I don't know why but the Elizabeth Short shirts made me tear up. How can this be legal and how can someone just be comfortable with looking up those crime scene photos and putting it on t-shirts? I couldn't even stomach looking them up for myself out of curiosity.
I know right!! I didn't tear up, but got really upset. Poor sweet little girl... I wish she was avenged some day :'( And this is so unfair that alive & well people now can wear it as an accessory... I feel like this is the worst type of privilege on earth - someone has the ability to dress up and wear murder victim related stuff, while the victims... obviously can't, because their lives were taken from them against their will :(
I am really interested in true crime and sometimes look up photos and documentations that don't censor shit, but damn, I still think of the victim's family and respect them. I'm just interested in detective shit, not gore
It’s such a distressing, disgusting lack of courtesy toward a young girl who was hurt so, so badly. I’ve seen the photos before, and I can’t imagine just stumbling across them in public, on some stranger’s shirt. They’re horrific.
There's so many Black Dahlia makeup looks on Instagram it's gross. And I even saw merch that had drawings of Elizabeth Short and the words "stay sexy don't get murdered"
I saw one where the caption was "Elizabeth Short, we were born on the same day, and who knows? We might end up in the same way." and when people were confronting her she started saying stuff about straight people wanting to be oppressed and straight people this, straight people that. edit: she's a drag queen
The sad part about this type of "style" is that they treat it like the victims are not real people. Like they do not have family, do not deserve respect, and were not once living, breathing, and feeling beings... almost as if they are just another fictional icon, like characters in a scary movie. It's just sad how people can disconnect themselves so far from reality that they think this is ok.
Elizabeth's body literally isn't even seen as human anymore. It's basically just this fascinating object for people to stare at. It happens a lot to other victims, too. My husband and I were watching Forensic Files one time and they showed the unblurred crime scene photo of the victims unseeing face and my husband and I literally could not believe they did that. We were speechless. Victims become so inhuman people are so desensitized to the suffering they must have endured.
who would even want to wear literal pictures of a graphic crime scene??? tf like i hope people aren’t actually putting on that shirt and going out wearing it
I think the people's mindset is upsetting the status quo. I think they assume that every one is a highly offended Christian from the 1950s. It's not a great stance to take in life and probably doesn't lead to happiness or joy.
You can get arrested for wearing swastikas in Germany but people are allowed to walk around wearing this stuff. Both are terrible things, both should be punished.
I can relate. I’m in the indie music scene and another ““rival”” band did something really fucking horrible to a former member of my band. I don’t really want to get into it, but those two members from the other band are in jail. Every time I see someone wearing a shirt of that band, especially now that it’s extremely public what they did and that they’re in jail, I get fired up
My dad’s cousin was an almost victim of John Wayne Gacy. He was working construction for him when he was 15 and he got away, even after being tied up, etc... he’s mentioned on his Wikipedia page. I totally get the difference between wearing real killers and fictional killers. I think they’re just glamorized and some people don’t really see the difference...
Yeah there's no defense at all for the crime scene photo shirts. Nuff said. A serial killers face isn't AS offensive to me (still very distasteful) but there's something so much more disrespectful and messed up about having the crime scene photo of a real life woman who was mutilated. In my opinion you're actively taking part in defiling her body as well. Cause it's not like she consented to be murdered. So I definitely don't think she would consent to the idea of people wearing her dead body as fashion. That's sick.
I just ADORE how the fingernails post caption said, “Serial killers do on a small scale what governments do on a large scale...” That’s cute... that’s, uh... that’s real cute🙄
Listen... I'm liberal in just about EVERY way... But I have no qualms about killing serial killers. It gets to a point where it's an eye for an eye, in my opinion... I don't worry for John Wayne Gacy or Dylann Roof's rights at all, considering what they did to innocents for no reason at all. If she thinks that's a social statement, she ought to realize it's a flawed one.
If that’s her social statement, she’s going about it the wrong way. To me, it looks like she’s glorifying or making excuses for what these people have done. Saying someone else has done it so it’s okay that they did it too. I don’t know about you but I don’t think anyone’s government grave robbed bodies to make human suits out of.
@@mercedesheisterberg299 Exactly! As I said... Highly flawed. She's definitely got some pro-killer slant on things, be that an extreme case of devil's advocate or full-on hybristophilia. Yuck.

But I think putting the black dahlias crime scene photos on a t shirt is absolutely disgusting. Please don’t crucify me in the comments.
I disagree, even though I'm a huge TC fan as well. The thing with pins and stuff like this is that if you wear it, it shows that you find whatever it is portraying cool, cute or funny. We aren't fans of True Crime because of the killers, but because if the psychology behind them. I'm a fan of the forensics and investigators who work for getting justice for the victims and their families. These crimes are interesting, not great, same goes for real life killers.
Nice video topic and discussion. I remember years ago on Tumblr discovering that there was a group of people that are actual fangirls of the Columbine shooters, and that it wasn't a joke; they treat it as some cute boyband tour. Also, remember seeing a Charles Manson pin before but didn't think much of it since.. unfortunately his face in used in pop culture-let alone never knew there's businesses (and some artists who are commissioned) that make these things with such an insensitive approach-but now I'm aware of and disgusted that this has business and some ppl think it's cute & trendy to wear a murdered victim's body as decoration. I've never been a fan of romanticizing and/or turning serial killers into "celebrities". Found your Horror channel first, which lead me to your personal channel! Loving your videos!
I literally found some of the IG posts by typing in the tags... so even though you blurred the names, people can still easily find these posts and shower them with hate. Good job. In my opinion, if it's making fun of killers and cult leaders (like the Jim Jones tee) then it's okay to laugh at it and wear it. It really stops being okay when it's romanticizing killers and praising them - which the pins and some of the other merch definitely does. The Elizabeth Short tee is actually disgusting, it makes me feel sick to my core - so I'm on your side here. I just think some merch is produced to make fun of and criticize killers rather than glorify them.
Scary Movie Scenes There’s a big difference because that’s a movie character killing characters and no one actually dies, but people romanticizing actual serial killers who’s killed real people is horrible. So no, I personally don’t think it’s bad to like horror movie characters.

Oh wow 😂😂 I feel bad for her but at the same time it is kinda funny
I live in Brazil where the Charles Manson case is not so well known. One day I saw a friend of mine that doesn't speak English wearing a tshirt with Manson's face on it that said "proud to be psycho" (I think it was from a brand called Blunt), I asked him if he knew what it said and who it was, he said "is something about being proud to be crazy, right?". I explained him the meaning and the story, he was so shook that he cutted the shirt into pieces and threw it way. It is so bad that brands put it out there and some people use it without even knowing.
:( that's awful
Kudos to him for destroying the shirt that way! A decent human being action :)
I had a Black Dahlia t-shirt, I'm from Latin America and I really didn't know about her case.
I can't say that I threw it voluntarily, it just got too old to be used, but now that I'm aware of what happened I feel really bad for using that stupid t-shirt.
já vi isso várias vezes também :(
Sério que ele não sabia? Esse caso é super famoso, mesmo aqui!
The black dahlia one is so horrifying and disrespectful...
Fuckin funny ass fucka
the girl with nail art in your first photo also has a sleeve of multiple portraits of serial killers all along her arm. which you didn't cover in your tattoo video so i thought i'd bring it up
I used to follow her on Tumblr!
She used to claim it was because she was studying crime in school... yeeeeeah.
y’all remember when someone did t-shirts that have a print of kurt cobains suicide note....

I seriously hate those Disney ears so much.
The Instagram caption made me so mad, really? He likes that sh*t? Wtf
Luckily it’s just “fanmade” and small shop rather than Disney itself so I would word it more as Disney inspired rather than Disney itself since it wasn’t the Disney company who made it and supports that.
Noel Luna I cannot imagine how terrifying that would have been. And to put him on DISNEY EARS!? I don’t understand, he was a monster
This shouldn’t even be a topic. This is a common sense matter. I’m speechless.
Dree M real shit this is so fucked up
Hey Sarah, I’ve noticed there’s been a disturbing ‘trend’ going round, where people have been visiting Elizabeth short’s grave whilst wearing makeup recreating her injuries from the crime scene and taking pictures. I have also seen it with other victims and killers, and was wondering about your opinion on the matter. I personally find it really creepy and disturbing. Xx
Bonni-rose Makeup people also dress up as her for Halloween. It’s fucked.
Disgusting.
Same bro wtf it's nauseating
It made me sick.
thank you for not saying that jonestown was a mass suicide, it was a mass murder seeing as many people were forcefully injected (also the kids couldn’t understand what they were doing)
I’m interested in cults so it irks me when people misrepresent what happened
100% a mass murder!
The leader was a psychopath
So true. And if you listen to the tapes some of the kids did catch on to what was happening and tried to run off but their parents forced them to drink the poison as were other people. There are people questioning if this is the right thing and he makes fun of them and has the crowd turn on them.
Makes me sick to my stomach. I heard the tales one time and listening to those babies cry haunts me
I had to research the jim jones case for a study at uni and if you listen to the recordings you can hear kids screaming in pain from cyanide poisoning it made me so depressed and sick but I'm glad I assist in putting bastards like that away now

Serial killer merch is pathetic and tasteless, but the crime scene shirts are something else. I really feel that anyone who would wear an actual corpse on their body is clinically disturbed, along with the person who designed it.
@VILLAINY PM what?
VILLAINY PM it shouldn’t fucking exist. at all.
Sometimes people are just that desperate to be edgy, it's so pathetic how people think this is fine.
Well if it’s the corpse of a fictional person it’s not as bad. But yeah real people is a bit distasteful.
The fact that you have to explain to people WHY this is disrespectful is such an issue.
I wish she was avenged some day :'(
And this is so unfair that alive & well people now can wear it as an accessory...
Same. Like I want to look up what happened due to curiosity, but I'm too scared to.
@@rachie2456 me too :( i have no idea who this person is and I'm too scared to look them up in case I see crime scene pictures
There's so many Black Dahlia makeup looks on Instagram it's gross. And I even saw merch that had drawings of Elizabeth Short and the words "stay sexy don't get murdered"
That's disgusting
Oh my god that's terrible! And I recognize the quote as Georgia and Karen's from My Favorite Murder but they would never be disrespectful like that
I saw one where the caption was "Elizabeth Short, we were born on the same day, and who knows? We might end up in the same way." and when people were confronting her she started saying stuff about straight people wanting to be oppressed and straight people this, straight people that.
edit: she's a drag queen
Moira Lightwood To be fair they’ve said some pretty ignorant shit about mental illness and the like. Karen and Georgia, I mean.
i don't even know what to say. *stay sexy.* *and don't get murdered.* *_with an image of Elizabeth Short._*
:(
who would even want to wear literal pictures of a graphic crime scene??? tf like i hope people aren’t actually putting on that shirt and going out wearing it
For real. Like can you imagine someone wearing a picture of your mutilated corpse on their shirt? Just so fucked up
I think the people's mindset is upsetting the status quo. I think they assume that every one is a highly offended Christian from the 1950s. It's not a great stance to take in life and probably doesn't lead to happiness or joy.
@Brandon Piperjack sooo you're saying its just dumb pepole wanting to be eddgy and a call for atention
I enjoy wearing merch for music group I listen to... Merch is a sign of support... I dunno why someone would wear merch supporting killers.

people acting like serial killer merch is a personality... it’s disappointing how people think this is “edgy” and “trendy.”
My dad’s cousin was an almost victim of John Wayne Gacy. He was working construction for him when he was 15 and he got away, even after being tied up, etc... he’s mentioned on his Wikipedia page.

Was he the one who put Gacy in the handcuffs?
OMG. I'm glad your dad was okay.
I hate how everyone acknowledges the criminal but not the victim.
I just ADORE how the fingernails post caption said, “Serial killers do on a small scale what governments do on a large scale...”
That’s cute... that’s, uh... that’s real cute🙄

Not only that but some women are RECREATING HER FACE INJURIES, what the fuck people
Wow. This is just like when I watched, and very much enjoyed the netflix show "YOU" but then when I went on social media people be like "OMG I'm so Joe! lol!" ... you... what?.......... ...
Have you ever visited the Museum of Death in LA? It’s an incredibly interesting place, and they have a gift shop at the end of the museum selling various shirts and keychains. Just wondering how you feel about this considering it’s an entire museum filled with true crime things (they have Ramirez’ letters, Gacy’s art, crime scene photos etc.)
Frankie Yates I feel like the museum itself is fine because it all happened and it is public knowledge, but the gift shop is a huge no no for me.
@@sintija1757 Depends on what they sell. If it just had the museum name or generic shirts with crime scene tape or chalk outlines or something it'd be more tasteful than glorifying serial killers.
mokana713 I went recently and they have things like Gacy “pogo” patches, tarot card serial killer shirts, dismembered Black Dahlia pins, etc.. There’s normal Museum of Death merch too but the majority is of the other variety.
I went to the one in New Orleans. I got a shirt with the name of the museum but they had serial killer shirts/pins/pens/posters etc. I got to read Dahmer's police report which was interesting to see. It is a weird place. You can even watch a video of real deaths but I couldnt watch it
Seeing those pins all together makes me sick...man leave my boy Jason and Freddy out of your pile of ACTUAL killers🤢
Have you ever done a video on the morality of MLMs? I just did a quick UA-cam search and couldn't find any. If you have, please let me know the title! And if not, I would love for you to do an episode or series of episodes on them. :)
Serial killer merch was seriously something I didn't know existed and I hope this makes people think twice if they ever question if it's wrong or not.
There's a great one by Tiffanyferg! And I'm pretty sure she actually follows Sarah as well, or either way she sometimes comments on this channel. Especially if you like Sarah's social commentary videos I could recommend you Tiffany's entire oeuvre tbh, she has a super relevant ongoing series called Internet Analysis, and she also researches and discusses social issues. All while being funny, sharp and self-aware 😅
