- With a background in fashion and a passion for interior design, Alia Ahmed-Yahia has made it her mission to help more women find their own personal style and further apply that to all aspects of their lives. She started her website The Style Scout in 2012, which aimed to serve as a resource for women to explore, experiment with, and understand what their style really is. With her two recently published e-books, Building the Brand of You and The Decorated Life, she further mapped out tips around the philosophy that inspiration is important, but it has to start with a foundation of who you are. In her new miniseries with BAZAAR.com, Alia takes us inside her new home with boyfriend James Bosworth, where she hopes to transform traditional (and often unused) spaces into creative ones that reflect the way they both live.

I would be so mad if someone surpised me by ruining both my wood floors and my books!
It would have been easy to leave the books alone and organize them by color. Changing the binding didn’t seem to contribute anything meaningful to the aesthetic. It’s good to exercise your creativity but painful for book lovers to watch.

What she did with the books made me cringe...how can anyone ruin books simply for aesthetic purposes? Moreover....how could you do that to a floor by digging holes in them, simply to curry favour with your boyfriend's sons putting addiction? I am not impressed. Quite frank;y, it looked better before she got her maulers on the place! I am still trying to get my head around this colossal error of judgement.
The most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen. A living room with just 2 chairs and nowhere to sit, beautiful hardwood covered up by putting green, an entire wall of cabinets filled with fake books that no one touches or reads. Every surface painted the same shade of dark blue like a dungeon. Wtf?!?

I loved seeing how happy and touched Jaime and the boys were! What matters most is how much the people love the space they’re in. All other opinions are just that - opinions.

I know what you mean, and the dad + sons trio did look really pleased with the end result, but for a mainstream audience her design choices are terribly unappealing.
I think it’s super cool. She decorated the room totally with her husband and boys in mind even incorporating what they love to do in it..putting. Is it ridiculous? Yea. And it’s awesome. They didn’t lose a room, because he said they never go in it, now they will. Mixing the old school campus men’s club look while keeping the boys close with the green,,,,superb.

The minute I saw her defacing the books I had to see what everyone else was saying, just what I thought I would see...and they look like crap. I don't care if golfing is your passion...there are no words for this room. A perfect example of "more money than sense".

Great way to go from girlfriend to wife. Consider you 3 main guys and cater to them. People are bashing this room and speaking about the books but l like the consideration that went into designing this room. Especially when they were returning expecting a ultra modern room.

You did that. Very beautiful. Wow that putting is off the chain. I got a green runner that I use as a putting field. This has expanded my vision once I build my own home. I like white walls but seeing the color scheme of black looks elegant
They have a big outdoors natural field so she make a fake indoors field surrounded by... dark colors to make a burial cave of destroyed books? Oh, mirrors around, and glass cabinets so the players would get hurt when broken while playing... instead of encouraging reading, she puts not one, two tvs but no sitting area...

A Nope. I don't do tongue in cheek. I'm direct. IMHO, it was a very good execution of a design concept. It clearly hits the lifestyle that the dad and kids are fond of and she mixed traditional and modern elements quite beautifully. But that is only my opinion. Design is very subjective and,ike the saying goes: "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." :-)

That room came out great! i have a little ball i throw at a target in my man cave.. that would be fun to have a putting green but i enjoy throwing at the target when i get an urge to do some exercise

I thought we left these kind of shows in the 90s making crappy DIY thrown together rooms by someone who thinks they have an "amazing vision" when it looks like garbage

LOVE the bookshelves, but with those already being so dark, which looks fabulous, I do think the wall where the fireplace is located would have been better left cream or a dusty light grey blue to contrast the dark shelves

Girl! Brilliant!! He said the boys actually use the "misfit" (wasted living room space) and now she made it stylish yet cool for his sons to continue to use it for putting and catch up on sports! This room will get more use than it ever did! Better marry that girl!

and i admit: i *was* worried because..a golfing space??..in the main house??, no less?? but, in the end, good job with the putting room surprise..turned out far better than i imagined..and if it's true that they're considering selling the property, i don't think jamie has to worry - when that day comes there will definitely be couples and also families with kids who are interested..and some of them will be golf lovers for whom a room like that would definitely seal the deal. 👍👍

Doing a professional putting green outside would have been good too, and holes wouldn’t need to be cut in the beautiful hardwood floor. Love the French antique floor mirrors. Books have become more about decoration (thanks Joanna Gaines!) there are people who buy books not for the content, but for the color of the spine. They could use her fabric tips and save some cash. I liked Jamie’s traditional style but this is a pretty special thing to do for her guys. Hope they use it and hope she kept the cut out floor piece - maybe it can be glued back later.
Not every room has to be traditional, budget friendly and super "normal". It's not about rich or poor people choices! I'm not a fan of the book cover DIYs either but the room looks great, putting green idea is amazing. I mean you can see the boys reaction! It's all about having good time and enjoy the design. I love how it looks!

What a great surprise! To the people who are crying about covering the books, would you rather they go to a landfill?! With all the audio books and computers and cell phones and e-books the sale of books and newspapers have drastically declined. I am so happy to see books anywhere. Grow up people, this was a wonderful and thoughtful gift she gave her boyfriend and his sons.

It always amazes me how people get so opinionated and upset about a place they don’t live in & don’t know the home owners. Interior design is about a custom space for the homeowner. Golf ⛳️ is their lifestyle. It’s beautiful!
This is the dumbest design change ever. Most impractical and quite frankly irreverent to the concept of a living room. Besides this will cost major bucks to replace the old traditional hardwood floor. Lady needs another job and maybe a few visits to libraries to understand the value of books.
