I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this yet. PTX did this during the transition period between the time they lost their recording contract they’d won on the Sing Off and the time they were signed with RCA. They came up with some extra money for additional editing, but it was still a minimum budget and they won a Grammy! Oh, one more thing… Avi was doing overtone singing on this! Amazing! It was so providential that these extraordinary people got together. Can you imagine a countertenor AND a basso profundo in the same group?! Also, The Trio had known each other since they were 8 years old and sang together in school activities from about 10! When they were in Martin High School together, they were singing in choirs and musical theater productions all the time!
You’ve done it again, giving me new understandings and I’m theory-phobic. I second the motion on the live private performance - in a green room for the Make A Wish foundation. As another reaction exclaimed, “They’re tuning to the room!”
Yes, Avi is the whoosher! Unique video, but so is PTX. Great reaction as usual. Suggestions: Radioactive, Bohemian Raphsody, Say Something, Hallelujah...naming a few with Avi. Look forward each week for your reaction and analysis. 🎶
Pentatonix is truly genre-less which may be why they don’t get airplay. They aren’t a pop group because they won a Grammy for arranging a medley of Daft Punk EDM songs. They aren’t an EDM group because their second Grammy was from arranging Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy a classical tune from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky. They aren’t a classical group because they won their third Grammy with country icon Dolly Parton singing a remake of Jolene a country song. They are a jack of all genres (trades) but they are truly Masters of all of it.

When I first heard this medley I couldn't get enough of it. I'm not an EDM fan normally, but this arrangement and the talent to do it completely a cappella blew me away. I think I may have fallen in love with Avi here, too... showing up shirtless and singing lead, bassline, harmony and sound effects parts. The video is also futuristic. Mitch, Avi and Kevin really shine in that one. Or watch their live off mic version of this just done in a dressing room/bathroom before one of their shows. It shows how well they can pull this off with just voices and no studio help.
I don't think that was overtones. Just some vocal effects/beatboxing like stuff. There is no upper and lower tone he's using at that point, so no overtone. I'm pretty sure
@@hernameispekka_Rebecca Avi makes the synth sound while singing the bass line at the same time. I don’t think it’s overtones either, but he is making two different sounds at the same time. There is a video of him demonstrating this somewhere on UA-cam.

SH and Daft Punk via PTX! Yay! How many times do you watch and listen to this to get all of that out of it? I have seen it a million times, heard it live, and still you teach us even more! Thank you! T ✌🏻
(I've said this in a few other comments so sorry if I'm repeating myself, but...) What you see is my first time listening to it. I make a mental 'snapshot' of the bits that stand out for a reason I think is worth mentioning, and then I go and find that bit and explain why it's interesting 🎶I like to make sure the info I'm giving is correct, so more complex chords (such as scrunch chords) might take a few listens to confirm what I'm hearing If each day had 30 hours in it then each of my videos would be an hour because there's just so much to talk about, so I try and pick out the parts that I think are most noteworthy!
@SirHairless I love your musical insight to the arrangements in all of your reactions. It helps me really appreciate not only how well Pentatonix understands musicality and chord arrangement, but also the difficulty of them even being able to sing some of those more "crunchy" chords. It's easy to find your note in a major chord; not super easy when you are trying to sing a chord with all sorts of conflicts.
Love this one!! Definitely Grammy worthy! There is a video out there where they sing this start to finish live in a private performance before a concert. It is awesome and to me shows off their real talent even more than the video!! Definitely worth a listen even if you don’t video. Love your reaction!! ❤
Fantastic reaction. I appreciate your musical analysis. Pentatonix has songs in so many genres and different types of songs. There is a Private performance of Daft Punk live as well as a live from the 2022 Hollywood Bowl. I have enjoyed all your PTX reactions and will stay tuned for more. Their catalog of amazing music is deep. You might like their originals Thank You, Sing, Love Again and covers New RulesxAre You That Somebody, Perfect, Can’t Hold Us, and Problem.
Great analysis, and instruction for us non-musical folks, as always! I learn so much from your videos. While you are still doing their early work, may I recommend “Can’t hold us”, just to watch for yourself if you don’t have time for an analysis. It is such a fun video, and always cheers me up. And of course Hallelujah is an iconic one, since it is perhaps the most common first Pentatonix song for people
Thank you for your breakdown of this song. You took on a very difficult arrangement with expertise. I really look forward to your PTX reactions. I hope you can react to one of their originals from the album "The Lucky Ones".

You might like to see their live private performance of this that they did in just a room with no microphones. I think it's cool to hear them completely raw (other than the camera's mic, I guess). It's called "Pentatonix Daft Punk mix private performance" on youtube.
Finally!!! I love this arrangement and it's sooo cool to see you breaking it down. I suggest reacting to the live version, just them no microphones and it sounds the same. Also check out (please) the Pop Spring concert and The Wizard of Ahhs, I love those two. Thank you!!
There is a phone recorded live concert video of Avi singing in overtones. He sings a steady base note that reminds you of bagpipes and then sings the melody of a song. His ability is pretty insane. Google Avi singing The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS! 🩷
You are crazy fantastic with combining musical analysis and entertainment part of the reaction and it makes my mouth wide open through almost the whole video. And I've seen many many reactions to that piece.
Keep up the good work, my friend! 😅
Cheers!
Thank you for your careful, insightful, but very comprehensible analyses - much appreciated! I'd love for you to react to their version of The Prayer: beautiful arrangement and absolutely superb vocals!
So awesome! Their voices, visually WOW!!! Have to watch over and over to catch EVERYTHING! There is no other group that sends my heart flying.
I did think the video was especially cool for this one (and I have watched it probably 20-30 times since filming this )
I sometimes skip the discussions between the reactor reacting to the video, but I enjoy your dissections and explanations.
Thanks! I aim to try to explain the 'why's to what we're hearing, not just 'what' we're hearing
Ayup, you point out the details. I would miss many things if you didn't see them and talk about them.@@SirHairless
I make a mental 'snapshot' of the bits that stand out for a reason I think is worth mentioning, and then I go and find that bit and explain why it's interesting 🎶I like to make sure the info I'm giving is correct, so more complex chords (such as scrunch chords) might take a few listens to confirm what I'm hearing
If each day had 30 hours in it then each of my videos would be an hour because there's just so much to talk about, so I try and pick out the parts that I think are most noteworthy!
Happy to hear it - thanks!
Love this one!! Definitely Grammy worthy! There is a video out there where they sing this start to finish live in a private performance before a concert. It is awesome and to me shows off their real talent even more than the video!!
Definitely worth a listen even if you don’t video. Love your reaction!! ❤
All the recommendations here are great, but for analyzing arrangements, I think you'd enjoy their early original Love Again. Visually, it's nuts.
Have to see the live version
Fantastic reaction. I appreciate your musical analysis. Pentatonix has songs in so many genres and different types of songs. There is a Private performance of Daft Punk live as well as a live from the 2022 Hollywood Bowl. I have enjoyed all your PTX reactions and will stay tuned for more. Their catalog of amazing music is deep. You might like their originals Thank You, Sing, Love Again and covers New RulesxAre You That Somebody, Perfect, Can’t Hold Us, and Problem.
🙌
You really enjoy doing these reactions and it shows. Thanks. It’s fun and educational to watch you. And it is PTX ❤️
🙏
This is also fabulous live…..I’ve no idea how they can achieve this in a live setting x
That was an amazing breakdown. Also, your falsetto sounds like an ocarina. That's a compliment.
i love this reaction! this one is a favorite, obviously. never fails to impress me, and its life changing live
The most Pentatonix of Pentatonix being Pentatonix.
Finally!!!! my favorite performance 😍as always beautiful reaction!!
I’ve watched this again. And, again, I heard new things. Thanks, … erm … again.
Avi wasn't the only one having trouble with the contacts, that's why Kevin is wearing the sunglasses - he couldn't tolerate the lenses at all.
You have got excited here again, your eyes are watering 😂
But I do understand why! 🤩
I look for your reactions everytime I turn on my computer or phone. I love your reactions. You are a musical genius!! I hope you will be able to see them live in concert one day. They have such beautiful, loving personalities! You are my favorite reactor. You bring so much enlightement to their music! Thank you sir!
Thank you so much!
So enjoy watching you try to follow them!
I would include Voiceplays cover of Nothing Else Matters as Grammy worthy too.
Analyzing the chord progressions and the rhythmic structure of this masterpiece, even re-enacting one crazy rhythm is so cool! This is unique, Nobody Else does this. Stay awesome, Sir Hairless! 😀
Thank you Glad you enjoyed!
A decade old and still just as fresh and just as Cool! 😃
Not just Avi, all their eyes looked red!
Great reaction.
Most of the Pentatonix reactors I've seen started with Hallelujah and got hooked from there. I'm eagerly awaiting your analysis of that one. Over the Rainbow is fantastic as well, but no video to go with it.
Watching from Dallas Texas area!
👋
Loved your reaction.
So fun!❤
Watching your face as you listen is fascinating. You’re so intent. Great reactions! ❤
I really enjoy how you break things down, and I catch things I didn't catch before, and wow, they are even more amazing. Thank you for your reactions. Have a great day.
Thanks! You too!
You might like The Evolution of the Pentatonix. They sit on a couch and tell their story.
You will love Kiss from a Rose. KO makes his cello sound like an electric guitar.
You might like to see their live private performance of this that they did in just a room with no microphones. I think it's cool to hear them completely raw (other than the camera's mic, I guess). It's called "Pentatonix Daft Punk mix private performance" on youtube.
Thanks for another enlightening reaction. This was so fun to listen to! PTX are simply brilliant with their arrangements.
Glad you enjoyed! It's a great arrangement
I've seen it, it's so cool!
Watching this live is mind blowing ❤ they won their first Grammy for this song they recorded in a closet for 400.00
Grammy for the arrangement
So glad to see you breaking this one down. You helped me notice some things in a new way, and I’ve listened to this countless times!
🙏
