  • Permanent jewelry has become a symbol of individuality and self-expression for many people. Beyond just being pretty and fashionable, permanent jewelry holds a deeper significance for those who wear it. It serves as a constant reminder of a special moment, a cherished memory, or a significant relationship. Whether it's a bracelet commemorating a milestone event or an anklet symbolizing a personal journey, permanent jewelry is more than just an accessory-it's a piece of wearable art that tells a unique story.
For many, permanent jewelry is a way to carry a piece of their loved ones with them wherever they go, serving as a constant reminder of the bond they share. "There are a lot of reasons why people get permanent jewelry," says Shari Tammietti, owner of Permanent Jewelry Training. "The custom fit is huge. I love that my bracelets are custom fit and don't have extra chain hanging down. There's also been some more sentimental reasons, remembrance pieces for family members that have passed. I've even done permanent jewelry at a memorial for a sister and they wanted a fun way to remember them. It's anything from wanting to have bling on all the time or to remember someone, which is so special."
"It can be super nostalgic or super fun, flighty, and off-the-cuff sort of experience," says Kim Thompson of Love, Eros, a boutique in Chattanooga. "I hear a lot that permanent jewelry is less invasive than a tattoo. They want something permanent, not as permanent as a tattoo.
Danielle Watt, proprietor of River Valley Designs adds, "Some of my favorite moments in my studio are after everyone has gotten their permanent jewelry, with a group of two or more, and when you see them hugging and whispering to each other. It's an experience and they've made and experience with each other. It makes it really special."
"Where I live my studio gets a lot of tourists," says Kim Thompson. "I've seen a lot of people come in and get a bracelet for every city they visit. It's kind of like the traveling pants kind of thing."
Christine Coughlin, owner of Flash and Fuse, a permanent jewelry boutique in Boston, says. "I see a lot of that, people getting permanent jewelry from different states. They're kind of collecting pieces as they travel."
In a world where trends come and go, permanent jewelry stands the test of time. It's not just a fleeting fashion statement; it's a timeless piece that holds sentimental value and emotional significance. So, while it may be pretty, fashionable, and popular, the real reason people choose to get permanent jewelry lies in the meaningful connections and memories it represents.
