Mistake number #5. Having a stock plane even though it takes literally dozens of hours to grind modules normally
Mistake number #6. Playing jets that don't belong at their BR like the venom, mig 15 (ordinary), F84B, F86A5, and Sea Victim at the start of 1.77
Mistake number #7. Playing 8.0 jets since you'll just be uptiered to 9.0 anyway.
6 months later, the Sea Meteor is only good as bait and fodder.

Get the guns modification and get closer before firing.
After hours suffering you get the modifications.
Just don’t aim at the enemy and it hits them.

Here's a good one Gaijin put out in a video: If you want to land on a carrier and your plane is a land based plane, then push your nose down onto the deck of the carrier and use your nose as a break. That is a great move for Gaijin. Because they instantly classify you as killed with no hope of repairs, and then charge you thousands of lions for repairs. Gaijin often puts out videos which will make them lots of money and cost you a fortune if one is stupid enough to follow their advice.

I mostly play with brits and germans, but i forgot to mention that i started the game a few years back, but i have since been unactive. I played actively for like half a year changing nations often, then i had a huge stop and haven't been playing actively since.
Xd i just got tier 4 for usa german russia, tier 5 france for the tank and for the plane russia i just got the yak 15, france i got every thing and for the other nation tier 4 all of that in 8 month xd and you play 3 years and you still stuck in tier 3 wtf
Wtf been playing 4 years. The first 3 were f2p i have all britisch tanks and Planes and all frech. Nearly all germans and amerikans. And tier 3 russia. YOU are doing Something wrong then.(Not including premium vehicles/only have a few bought. Unlocked most of them)
Back when i actually played this game, i almost always got to the top of the leaderboards, and i was much better than the avarage tier 3 player. Right now i'm not as good, but still get to the top 3.
Just to ask, does joining a squadron speed up progress? I never joined one and i would like to know, as i feel like this game is a huge grind if you are f2p.

not really. keep in mind that missiles, even ones today, aren't incredibly smart. Early missiles were especially prone to going awry

Early missiles would be absolutely perfect. Not effective against fighters because they can literally be dodged with a small maneuver, thought they are still very effective against heavy planes. Just imagine a game where Tu-4 isnt OP!

That glorious moment I flew my first jet, a beautiful meteor blessed by the queen. Then by the time I get up to 500kph off the run way I get dove on by an f84 going Mach 1 out of his airspawn. Thanks gaijin.

My 1st flight into jet was upon my F2H2 Banshee, I'll never forget that day, it was even my main reason to play War Thunder, 'cause Panthers' tree is the most beautiful jets of this game
This is actually quite a good little video for people getting into jets I think, hopefully we see a greater percentage of people flying the higher BR jets to ease queue times!

Mistake number 5, the BR we placed you at, good luck fighting Korean War aircraft in your WW2 fighter
One way I learned to fire in short bursts is to bind the bail out button to the same button as the guns. It forces you to fire in ~3 second bursts

I remember my first jet being a Vampire, i was on Hokaido and i pulled up too much on takeoff and destroyed my tail control. Unable to pitch up and heading straight to the end of the runway at 200kmh or so, I frantically applied full breaks, shifted my plane sideways, but i ran out of runway and crashed into the ground.

I got my first jet and practice against my buddy's F-100 and learned 2 things.
1. slow fire cannons can't win head ons with super sonic aircraft.(30% of the time you will win)
2. If you survive a head-on with super sonic aircraft turn immediately to get on their tail and finish them before they get out of range.(depending on how fast you were going and turn rate of your jet. You will have just 4 to 1 seconds to kill before they speed away.)
My first jet was an Ar 234 B-2. None of this was ever needed since all I did was deliver bombs, land, deliver more bombs. Not to mention that the 234 is extremely maneuverable compared to other jets, so it makes a half-decent dive bomber against tanks, too.

Romanische050, yeah, that is a turn off for me. I haven't played the game, yet. Just been watching videos, and that makes me not want to get involved with WT. I find it hard to believe that a developer who added that nonsense would create a realistic flight model.
You could always put a skin that makes the jet flame more realistic ofc it would only work on your side but hey its something. Theres this guy named Avalanche that made a really nice semi-realism skin pack for jet flame live.warthunder.com/post/577093/en/
Kitty Yuki the flame shouldn't be more realistic it should be *away* it shouldn't *exist*.
Eh feel free to make a skin pack for that, it is possible to just place a blank dds file for the "jet flame" and the game won't render any flames. For now that's what the players can do if they do desire.
Plus early jet engines do expel soot out the back and its noticeable as smoke trail

shorter bursts wil actually lead to fewer sparks, because sparking is a result of ballistic calculation overload on servers, which is why high ROF time on target gins like 7.7s spark so much

My first one was J2Y2, and I actually used it as a bomber. No problems here! Well, none that I am not already used to with bombers, ie getting shot down after releasing the payload. Still, got better.
Oh, I remember my first time. It was the F2H at 8.0, and oh the uptiers I got where so fun, playing against F11s with their missiles spams. Super fun times

after playing jets in ground ab I wish the props were alot softer to smaller calabre rounds than the game makes them as it just makes the gameplay very difficult unless u have a og p51 or a german do217 with its 4 rapid fireing 20mm cannons at like 1.3 and 2 engines than when ur in those gameplay gets boring as nothing can kill u unless u have a weak pilot or they have cannons but if those planes get to higher brs they likely wont last all that long as they will likely be very outmatched

you should have added the high speed kill ram... I seem to never avoid that with the saber.. for example you are tailing another jet you shoot it down and the displeasure of ruble ends up killing the killer.

I can say quite comfortably that I go against almost every single one of these rules I dogfight in my f2 Sabre a few hours a day and get much better results than if I were to keep energy though this could be simply because of my preferred play style

Why can't they allow you to test drive these aircrafts so we know what ones we like to research like I want to test drive the me-262 and the challenger 1 so I know if I want them gaijin make it possible pleaseeeeeee

You can testdrive them as soon as you can research them. That's enough time to learn the plame tank.
And the flightmodel is different in the test flight so you can't really use it for learning the pdrformamce
actually, you can test drive as soon as you are able TO research a plane. i don't have ANY jets just yet, but i unlocked the ability to research t5 germany, so i'm able to test fly the komet and narwhal
How to fly a jet
There is actually a trick to test flight jet aircraft, but the downsides are that you can only fly them for 1-2 minutes and you cant choose wich jet you want to fly.
1. Take a friend in a tank arcade battle custom battle. Edit the custom battle so that there can only be 4 players and that you have bots with rank 5+ vehicles. (I normally choose the normandy map, but that's up to you)
2. In tank arcade battles there is a feature that you can get in a plane if you have 1 or more kills. Your friend needs to go to your spawnpoint and kill you 3 times in a tank. Then you need to kill him 1 time. If you did that correct, you should be able to go in a plane.
3. Go in a plane and if you did steps 1 and 2 correct, you should be able to go in a jet
Note: You can also do this alone, but then you have to kill rank 5 or 6 tank bots. I also chose only 4 players, 2 for you and your friend, 2 for 2 Tank bots. You can Choose more players but then the game will end quicker.

I can't think of the word to describe the feeling of getting a jet for the first time. Its kinda like nastalgia but instead its used to describe being happy about enjoying something because its brand new. Its also kinda like getting a new game you've waited to release for a long time and being extra happy just because you finally get to play it even if the beginning is kinda boring.

They don't simulate the final drives of Panthers catching fire either so probably not.
Arthanias Would be funny if they did. Now all of a sudden your "fast" Panther" is slower than a Tiger because you can't rev past 2000RPM for risk of instant fire. Kinda like tank WEP.
-of course without complimentary BR reduction. make mid-tier germany even worse-

Updated 1.79: Do not play any of the other 98% of jets. Only play the CL13, German Mig15bis, G.91, F-84G, and 262C2B. Basically only play Germany, or you'll get raped.

My first jet was the Meteor F.3. Nothing amazing, but then I unlocked the Sea Jesus (as it was dubbed back then) :)
Ah I remember my first match with a jet after getting r@ped by a mf with a premium jet i went back to rank 1 and never returned to that jet for like 4 months
unless if it's rocket engine, which can instantly go full thrust like propheller and faster than jet, but it makes your aircraft heavy because you need rocket fuel, and it drains it quickly.
i guess you will probably learn it from playing kerbal space program, mostly from building SSTOs.
also be careful when playing on a jet fighter, if you play it too much, you end up forgetting how to play a propheller fighter as you will play it as if you were playing a jet fighter.

the real problem is, why is it before the me 262 (7.0) at a br of 8.0 ? Shouldn't be the opposite?
MultiCockta, I agree but it is still a good plane easily capable of owning 9.0's when flown correctly.
Agostino Simoni, I think that it should be in the tree after the He-163 and before the MiG-15bis. That way there is the experimental/East German tree and the Historical tree. At least, that's the way I see it at Rank 5.
