    That so-called 'dip' in your backyard, that you filled in, was a swale. A swale is a three-sided ditch placed to catch surface water and channel it away from your house. You may have noticed you're on the downhill side of a sizable water shed above your house.

    • @TheLawnShark
      @TheLawnShark  11 місяців тому

      Well, the "swale" was a ditch when I purchased the house. It is now back to a Swale. 😬 Thanks for the correction.

  • @MontyBird45

    Pea gravel isn't a good base because it moves around. Never use smooth stone for a pathway or parking pad. Always use well-compacted crushed rock. Compacting causes the facets of the crushed rock to align, wedging them tightly together. Water will pass through, but there'll be no movement like you have with smooth stones.

    • @TheLawnShark
      @TheLawnShark  2 роки тому +3

      Am way ahead of you. Already in the process of changing it out.

    • @meekstrangerusa2816

      Yes crushed gravel/rock is ideal for heavy loads. You'll never go wrong with crushed gravel/rock.

      By "ride behind" do you mean like a Dingo? If so, I used one on another project and it worked great. Would highly recommend it. Also, I changed the rock to 3/4 stone. Hold together much better than pea gravel.

    Hi, what is the measurements of this parking pad? How many cars can fit there?

    • @TheLawnShark
      @TheLawnShark  Рік тому

      24 ft wide by 20 feet deep. I can fit 3 cars in this configuration. I have since made it into a 2 car space and it is now 15 feet wide.

    • @elisemillie4377
      @elisemillie4377 Рік тому +1

      @@TheLawnShark thank you for replying. I appreciate it. So did you add sand or some sort of fine gravel to bind the rocks together more so they don’t move around. If so, could you tell me exactly what you used please.

    • @TheLawnShark
      @TheLawnShark  Рік тому

      @@elisemillie4377 No sand or anything to bind. I left it loose. The base is clay which kept things pretty solid. I did add 3/4 inch gravel to the parking pad to keep the pea gravel from moving so much. Made for a more solid pad. If I were to do it again, I would have only used the 3/4 gravel and not the pea gravel.

  • @CADreemz
    @CADreemz 3 роки тому +1

    Well done! Why the crusher rock along boarder? I'm making a small pad 7x 7 for a shed, but i don't think I need crusher.

    • @TheLawnShark
      @TheLawnShark  3 роки тому +1

      I use it because it compacts well and allows for a solid place for the beams to sit. It also minimizes moisture touching the beam. If I put it directly on the soil there is a potential for constant moisture contact. While the beams are meant for ground contact and are rot "resistant", all wood will rot eventually and I feel like this prolongs the life of the beams, but... time will tell. Thanks for watching!

    I’m sure you noticed quickly that round stone is not good for driving or walking on. However I have a process that will allow you to use pea gravel for parking or walking paths. You need to excavate 6”. Install 2” of 3/4” base rock and compact it in. Then add woven fabric over that. Then instal 2” of decomposed granite or stone dust. Compact that in. Then add 1” of decomposed granite and compact. Last step is to add a thin layer of pea gravel and compact it in. When done this way the gravel doesn’t move. It’s strong like concrete. Much like a Roman road. Good luck.
