- After several years of use, it came the time to clean my PlayStation 3 Slim and give it some fresh air. In this video I open my PS3 and I'm cleaning it.
Now my PS3 Slim is slitent and running smoothly.
With no more overheating, great titles can now be played all day long. :))
PS3 Rocks!!!

Thank you this was easier than I thought I never cleaned 🧼 any console before!
That’s me rn! I’ve never cleaned a console before but Ik mine needs to be cleaned, I’m just scared I’ll mess something up lol
Once you do one you'll want to clean all of your consoles. It became a little hobby of mine
Same I love my PS3 cuz I've had it since I was a kid and I'm worried that I'm going to mess it up@@elizabethbivens1275
Thank you man, I just cleaned my 12 year old PS3 Slim for the first time!
Surprisingly it was more cleaner than yours when I removed the case

“More cleaner”lmao
Amazing how it's still alive 12 years later, maybe 13 even?
@@wel88_ It's been actually 14 years now. I remember my father buying it in 2010, just to play God of War 3 which realeased in the same year.
Great video, just cleaned my PS3 after using it for over 10 years for the first time. Not as much dust as I would have thought but I keep my ps3 in a open area to breath. I did see a nice little outline of dust where my ps3 sat so wiped that down after cleaning the inside and hoping to see it run much much smoother now. Wasn't horrible but did see it creep up to 75C while gaming on normal PS3 games. Just want to see it back at around 68C would be perfect for me.
I've had my PS3 slim for 12 years now, it's about time to give it some love, i've had 3 computers, one PS4 and one Switch that I have sold or don't use anymore but I still use my PS3 for netflix to this day :3
I still use mine for a Blu-ray player and Little Big Planet 1 & 2 to this day. I love this little machine :)
@@nintony2994bruh. I had mine for years. And after being on ps4 since launch , I've been playing my ps3 this past couple months... I decided to switch to the series X cause ps5 is basically remastering ps4 games anyways and nothing new that I want. I'm not 7 years old to want to play spiderman 2 or hogwarts 😂😂😂
So I got a series X lol😂😂😂
But I love my ps3!
@@B_HarTz Same :)
I love your voice and accent. ☺️💖💖💖 And I especially love this awesome video demonstration!!! Thank you so much for helping all of us fellow PS3ers out here.
just bought a ps3 on marketplace. Manufacture date was 2010, warranty sticker was still on - it was almost spotless inside…
I'm incredibly jealous haha
I want to find a basically brand new one like that.
Videos like this are gold! Thank you good guys!
Never thought of using one of those makeup pad dealies to do surface cleaning. Great for electronic exfoliation!
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!!!
Was able to clean everything as well as the power supply by removing the screws under it.
I traded my old fat ps3 for slim in 2009 and it was as dusty as the one in your video, my fan and heatsink were different though but either way process was the same.
After this I noticed the console run much quietly.👌🏽
The PS3 fat could play playstation 1,2, and 3. PS3 slim can only do playstation 1 and 3. Not a good trade bud😢
@@mrbungle589 only a certain fat ps3 models could do that and mines wasn’t one of it, either way my old one laser went out twice and then mother board went bad so that’s why I took it for a trade.
Thank you so much for the video! I just cleaned my system and it was actually very clean. Simple wipe and blow and all good!
DK OLDIES NEED TO TAKE NOTE
Tip: Small new paintbrush works wonders on cleaning fan. Also a small flathead screwdriver can take out and put back in the screws that aren’t Philips heads.
Thank You so much for another courageous video
Is any vacuum cleaner good for the console? Like a shop vac of something?
shud've included the unit itself turning on and loading without a hitch :)
The torx 8 screw is annoying, I have a screwdriver without the hole in the middle :/
This video might help me later on down the line, so I'll save it to watch later for now. I'll be moving houses soon but still on the fence if i should just buy a new PS3 (in 2023, crazzzy I know 💀) or just try and clean out my current one. I mostly used my current one as a Blu-ray player and its very VERY reliable.
I will add to say always put new thermal paste on the CPU 👍
I just subscribed!!!!
Im making one last attempt to save my PS3 , hopefully it doesnt die and by cleaning it , survive like 2 more years
Appreciate this so much! I found it very helpful!
Dang, I can't believe they added that strange screw, a star with a hole in it. I guess I'll just have to leave my PlayStation off until I get one. I just hope it's not too late.. It started freezing on startup
This video really helps. I'll make sure to remember this when I'm cleaning mine 😁👍🏾
Been thinking about putting my PS3 into use again. I was wondering what the right screw sizes were for the Phillips head since the one I have is a little large. Also watching this is the first time I ever even realized you can replace the PS3's hard drive simply by unscrewing that one thing at the bottom. Kinda feels weird it took me over ten years to learn this lol. But the video's pog.
It’s no cleaning if you forget to change the thermal paste. 😉
I love my Ps3.
It brought me so much joy.
thank you, got mine in 2013 or so, the fan was really loud and now i cant hear it at ALL.
I love PlayStation because it's product is so easy to tinker and disassemble
and free online 👌
so i NEED a torx driver
Tebrik ederim çok kaliteli ve net Bir anlatım ❤👏🙏👍
Refurbished two PS3 slims today…thanks for the video.
Looks way easier than the super slim
is it actually safe to use a vaccum cleaner?
So do I need screws just to open the top exterior ?
My ps3 model has 4 t8 security screws on the front instead of three
Bro ps3 Best ever
2:28 Thanks for your tutorial buddy but why u said to unscrew the torx is the most difficult xD It is funny xD
Because most people have a phillips screwdriver but they don’t have the torx screwdriver, so they may get stuck at this step. Some even ask what screw is that? 😂 I’m glad you had fun watching
@@YesterdaysTech ;-) Thanks to You I cleaned my PS3 but it still quite loudly and hot. I think it needs to be thermal paste changing but I am too lazy to do this now. Have a good sunday bro.
It may also depend what you’re playing, games such as The Last of Us, Black Flag and some others always make your PS3 sound like a Jet even with thermal place replaced. Have a great sunday you too.
@@YesterdaysTech yes. I agree with u. I played SPORT CHAMPIONS with move controller. Maybe some day I will replace the paste and I will let u know about results.
@@zaika_a_a did you replace it?
Any changes?
This helped for the most part, it helped me get the case and power supply unit off, however my fan case is of a different design and I do not know how to remove it to fully clean the fan

Same
What screwdriver tools do you use, from the beginning to the end of the video bro?
Torx T8 and Phillips screwdriver
thank u for the tutorial 🙏🏼
Once I deep cleaned my super slim PS3 (very carefully) the fans never made a sound again 😮👌🏻
Fantastic video and good job 👏
Some fast drying electrical spray and you can save yourself tons of time.
Not a lot of dust but following the steps made a night and day difference
I am having a lot of trouble getting these 2 screws out 4:07 do you have any tips as to get them out easier?
same problem here lmk if u find a solution
yep same!
Did you use rubbing alchohol on the cotton swabs as well?
Yes
The CECH-3000 models have a different fan assembly. I just didn't bother disassembling mine since it seems a lot more convoluted but I still went ahead and wiped the top part of the fan blades down as best as I could. 👍
This was the first PS3 Slim model that came out in 2009 the later Slim models the 3001A and 3001B have the better fan and small CPU and GPU dyes
@@ryans413how is it a better fan? It went from 120 mm to 80
@@HarryRoberts-p9q since the cpu and gpu dyes decreased in size there was no longer a need for a 120 mm fan and the 80 mm fan is a better quality it’s the same type they used in the PS4 it’s a blower style fan compared to the original PS3 slim fan that was not a blower style
@@ryans413 I know it’s blower style but wouldn’t it be louder?
@@HarryRoberts-p9q it is a little louder yes but it cools better
Great video. Thanks. I heard a friend's PS3 fan getting very loud, one day, all of a sudden. I don't know if it still survives because he also got a PS4 and kept both of them connected to his tv.
I plan on moving mine on to the floor and storing it upright, with a stand, when I use the one space, in my TV unit, to house the new Panasonic 4K blu-ray player that I'm going to be buying, in the January sales, to pair with my LG C1 oled tv that I managed to pick up, fairly cheap. So I'm going to be doing a clean like this to make sure no dirt in it shifts, from one place to another, causing any problems, when I move it.
I want my PS3 to last forever, even though I'm getting the Panasonic because it's full of my digital music collection and I use it as a juke box, as well as being my backup blu-ray and cd player and I may play the odd game of Wipeout or golf.
I know the PS5 can play 4K blu-rays but I heard that it doesn't support HDR.
I know my comment is long. Apologies if it's too long. It's just that I like writing and I had time to write.
Also, I would just like to add that, if anybody ever sees an LG oled tv going for cheap enough to be affordable and fall within their budget, like I did, you should totally grab it while you get the chance. For gaming and UHD HDR content they are absolutely amazing to see.
Thank you again for the tutorial. Very enlightening and helpful. Cheers!
Dang thanks a lot.
Man, I haven't opened an old game console since 2009 with the launch PS2 model I used to have.
If I were to open up my old PS3 slim I've had since 2011 (as well as my PS4 Pro from 2017) I hope nothing serious goes wrong lol
This is my first time cleaning my ps3 thank you your video helps out alot👍👍👍👍
Does this also work with a Ps3 Slim 3000?
Yes
@@YesterdaysTech Thank You 🙏
Its already clean. I found spider web dirt , sand and hair , cotton in my ps3
Great video, it helped me a lot, thank you♥️👏
عمتك لوحدك
There were actually 4 protective screws on my ps3
Yes, there are different batches
@@YesterdaysTech also the fan wasn't removable
Note to self throw away the security screws
I have accidentally took of where is fan wire should be logged of the motherboard.. How can I fix if?
Thank you it works. You save my worrys. You are the man. Dude. Subscribed!
Dont forget the thermal paste folks!
Did the ps3 get quieter after this??
Please l need help with mine
Really helpful. First time after 10 years I opened to clean it and...I had almost no dust. So...where do you people live or keep your systems where so much dust builds up? I had just a speck here and there.
That's what I'm worried about. Should I even open up my ps3 and clean it 😂😂😂 I'm horrible on putting it back together but I'm Excellent 5:44 in taking things apart lol😂😂😂😂
I use a laptop fan that my ps3 is on and I cover my ps3 with a microfiber towel when not in use so I think I'll hold off on cleaning It lol
what tools will I need ?
I got a console tool set which includes every console like Playstation Microsoft and Nintendo
Really great thanks!
Cleaned mine man it was way worse than that one. No wonder she kept shutting down hopefully she works good now
I'd like to check in. Does she work good now?
This video definitely helped, gonna be a lot of people watching this when these things are retro for sure!
They are retro now haha
What's that liquid you used to clean?
Rubbing alcohol
@YesterdaysTech thanks for the lesson. Can you please tell me where you got your multi tool from? I'm trying to start my own woodworking business repurposing items and refurbishing items to keep them out of the landfill
I have it since long time ago and it's not a specific brand, Walmart, Amazon or eBay are all good places to find a good tool set
@@YesterdaysTech thanks for your help. I ended up borrowing a bit from hubbies co-worker. Stayed up until 3 in the morning to clean two PS3...they were disgusting...
I found it easier to wrap a very thin stir stick with a wet wipe...the cotton swab was taking way to long and couldn't fit in small places. Hope this helps you
Yes, there are various methods to do it, I'm glad you solve it
Thx for video
Bro i can for the life of me get those last two screws pff of the Power supply
Dont need to change the thermal paste?
Replacing the thermal paste is even better, this is a simple cleaning
Bro forgot about the bluray drive... 😅
Would it run faster with a dust clean up?
Not faster, but will be more silent and will not overheat
@@YesterdaysTech Would it slow down when it is overheated or something else? I am wondering if it is worthwhile to clean mine.
That varies, depending of what you play and how often you play... if you think your console it's running fine, then it's running fine... Usually when a console overheats, it becomes very noisy, and at a point it shuts down... if your console is running for long sessions without issues, then it's no need for cleaning
What model ps3 slim is this? 2000, 2500 or 3000 series?
2500
@@YesterdaysTech Thanks, great video. Just subscribed.
Not 100% sure why, but you're not supposed to spin the fans. It could break them, or the ps3 Itself. Cant recall but I've seen it elsewhere for PCs.
thats if you use an airduster to blow air and spin your fan up to a zillion rpms, that will fry the electronics of the fan. if you use airduster hold your fan steady so it doesnt spin up
You should've used vacuum from beginning, and outside. Instead you were throwing dust inside while cleaning fan, and barely wiping surfaces before vacuuming and changing Thermal Compound. And optimally doing fan mod (adding fan speed controller).
will an air can damage the fan?
No, only too much amount of dust can damage it
When put out a hard disc, save files will be gone?
No, everything will be there, games, save files, login and all settings
Any data on an HDD will stay on it. Disconnecting an HDD doesn't affect that. Only when it's connected and you delete things yourself. Or if you format the disc. But doing that will first give a warning you'll lose data.
What % rubbing alcohol do you use for cleaning?
Anything is 70% or more of isopropyl alcohol is perfect
What temp should i start cleaning
should've done a thermal repaste as well but great job nonetheless
Mmm not so helpful..
What screwdriver for the hardrive?
A Phillips Screwdriver?
@@YesterdaysTech tried that the screw won't budge
if u got some sort of air blower, IMO, there is no need to put out the fan itself
I Agree
The air blower is useful, but it will never make the fan as clean as a manual cleaning with the fan out.
u r idiot did u know that? xD if u wanna wash your fingers firstly u have to take the rings out u clown xD
You can break the fan if you just use an air blower without doing something to stop it from spinning the fan
