I first played a Matchless at West L.A. Music in 1990. I was blown away by it. It had remarkable clarity and tone and was so reactive to playing, whereases most amps are just unresponsive and tone-deaf. It felt very alive, like a Dumble I tried, but with more brightness. I tested it with an LP, SG, PRS and strat, till the salespeople got annoyed with me and asked if I was gonna buy the thing or not. I'd bought a Boogie there just a year earlier. Had they been more patient I would have bought the Matchless. I still want one. I'd describe the Matchless tone as being right at the nexus point of the best British and American tone. They also take pedals extremely well.
I'm a little late to the party here but I just picked one of these up with with matching 2x12 cab. I love it but takes a little getting used to as it is quite bright at low medium volumes, Is that due to a bright cap?? Will be looking into that but if anyone knows the value let me know. So although it has a master volume it needs to be run quite high to sounds it's best. Also was curious what speaker cabinet this demo was done with. Thanks, Love the amp
Ok. The Laural Canyon may have one of the tightest, fenderish basses i have ever heard, great for a good tone in the mix. But I couldn't be sure with one second in the demo
Probably the perfect side amp to the lightning.
This amp is a beast!

Looks like it is an Top Boost tone stack with an adjustable mid frequency. Nice tones.
Juicy sounding dynamic amp
