These are the best amp reviews I have ever seen. Fantastic! I owned a bad cat black cat & I have built a spitfire & lightning clone, and have repaired DC30's. Nice informative videos, and you didn't mention a pile of pedals you put in front of them (or in the middle of them). Thank you!
Great video - you’ve really captured the mic’d sound. One point for folks to note: the two channels - on the C15 head anyway - are opposite polarity. There’s no toggle on the back, as there is on the HC30, so in my wet/dry rig I have a splitter with a phase button. I find that the C15 fills in all the gaps in a Fender-type amp, and it’s bold where a black face amp is giving, so it’s a fantastic match.
I'd get the NON reverb HC30 version for 3 good reasons. 1. Reverb option is a 330$ upcharge. 2. The channels have separate loops so running an external reverb can be allocated to each channel independently. 3. The party trick. The non reverb version has separate inputs for the two channels. Using an ABY pedal you can footswitch between them or run them simultaneously which is BY FAR the richest tone these amps produce, and the way that most seasoned c30 users utilised.
As always, a very nice demo! I have an old Clubman 35 (without reverb) and love it. The only “disadvantage” is that it is extremely loud. But... a wonderful three-dimensional tone. Unfortunately, this can only be experienced if you stand directly next to the amp in the same room. Because of this space, I don't miss the reverb at all. I usually only play guitar - cable - amp and control everything (clean, crunch, drive) via touch and guitar control. Hah....... i love it.❣
I own a spitfire that I bought used a couple of years ago. I really like the kind of minimalist approach (only three knobs). Really useful video, because Matchless amps tests are quite rare. Thank you!
This is one of the best reviews of Matchless I have ever seen congratulations on that beauty of yours sounds fantastic. Being a Matchless owner myself I loved this. I love the C-30 Laurel Canyon and the Spitfire. I have an Avalon 30 Head and 4X12. Cheers from Canada!!
Oh man, your tubes wiil die quick. Basic tube amps use instruction : First turn on POWER ON, Wait few minutes for heating tubes and then after few minutes you can fire STABD BY. If you put current on cold tubes (Stand By On) then tubes will use up waaay quicker than it should. THX for that presentation.

Robert Cray played Clubman 35 amps, not the C30. I own a ‘94 Clubman and it’s great. My favorite Matchless amp.

Matchless 410 cab is marvellous . I play my C30 through it . Much less astringent than 112/212 Matchless offerings imho .
