Holy shit Drop Dead Legs was spot on! Really dig this amp, it's got sort of a chewiness quality to the gain/mids that I like, especially with humbuckers!
This video just shows how important the cab/speakers/mic are. The first video of yours where im not super excited about the gainy type of sounds, just moderately excited... :D But the tones and playing is always on point, this may be one of the best UA-cam pages in a long time. Just great sounds, great playing and no 45 minutes of talking...
Love the fact that you are playing actual songs and not just noodling around! Thats what really set you apart, and your skills and production skills off course! Really enjoy your content.. kind regards from Denmark
As per usual... excellent demo of an insanely versatile little amp! Great choices of songs to match the tones!! That’s what it’s all about! Man I’d like to have this in a burly oversized 1x12 combo!
You always get awesome tones out of any amp you demo. Would love to see maybe a Orange Rockerverb 50 or maybe a Mesa Boogie dual rectifier. Can’t wait till your next video
First off, wow what a rad amp. Second, I notice you add a bit of reverb on your tones (I'm assuming in post) just to add some dimension. Which I don't always love in showcasing amps/cabs, but at least you do it tastefully enough so that it doesn't out off the tone or the listener's ear. So kudos to you for that man! Third, much like the rest of the people on here, I agree in that your tones are super underrated. On that note, myself and I imagine most of your fans on here, are nerdy enough o want to see your process. I don't know if it's something that interests you, but you should definitely capitalize on doing a few series like: "How I Dial In An Amp" or "How I Mix My Demos". I guarantee that it'd bring you the views and expand your audience from the shear tone junkies to the engineers and mixers too. Not to mention, it'd be easy to film. You can use audio from past demos and just have 1 cam on you and a screen capture. Just food for thought. Lastly... That Rick Springfield riff fucking rips dude. Haven't seen anyone on UA-cam use it in a demo. Thank you hahaha
Super Zach.. Awesome as always!! Gotta love your YT content and HUGE talent.. so so refreshing and inspiring!!!! Keep it up man!! Cheers (Nuno from Portugal) :)
I just checked the price... but that's a jewel. Amazing playing as always. I'd love to hear you record something through a very average/budget amp, I'm sure you would make it sound amazing.
Matchless was very smart to pick you as a 'demoer'! That's a given.. The odd part to me is where does someone find this amp? I thought it was released maybe a year ago and I've never seen one for sale? p.s. thanks for listing all the tunes the riffs came from :)
Dude, your playing is sublime. So much genuine feeling comes through. My search for a Superchief 120 led me here. Have you ever checked out fellow Matchless user, Jeff Martin from the Canadian band, The Tea Party? His live rig has included two Superchiefs for many years now. He regularly uses open tunings so those amps just shimmer. So good. Later skater. 🤘🏻
Really glad I stumbled on your channel. I mean God DAMN the tones you are getting outa these amps are amazing! Great demos, great lighting, great audio, great playing! You should try a Dr. Z EMS amp and take it through it's paces - I bet you could make that thing sound killer!
I basically only watch your videos because you are a great player and always have good tones with whatever gear you're using. Other than the Les Pauls, strat, and 5150, I wouldn't use any of the gear you demo (not because it doesn't sound awesome). Not my style of playing, or even what I typically listen to, but great content all the same. The only thing I would like to see is more frequently released content!
Zach, what’s that effect you’re using on the EVH track? Sounds sort of like a doubler? Great tones. Which Matchless would you say is best for heavier stuff, like hardcore punk?
Awesome tones and great tunes...however, I don't find coldwater version on the matchless website. Just H15 or other heads only, where can Coldwater be found? Thanks !
I don't think the Coldwater Canyon has officially been released yet, but I'm pretty sure it's coming soon. Might want to ask the folks at Matchless though. Definitely a great amp! Thanks so much for watching!
HI Zach....wonderful video. I own a Matchless HC-30 and love it. That Coldwater would be an excellent addition......but didn't see it on Matchless site? is this something up and coming or is this a head version of the Laurel Canyon? many thanks
Drop Dead Legs is my favourite here but all the tones and your playing is first rate. Does the DD500 in the loop to cover the detune effect? Would you be able to share your +/- cents and the delay time? I have a Keeley 30ms that I like to use
Thanks very much! I'm just using the DD-500 for delay here. I've got the full signal chain in the video description if you're interested, I'm using a plugin in post for that detune sound called MicroShift from Soundtoys. It's an emulation of the Eventide H3000. Thanks so much for checking out the video!
Hi Zach, killer video man as is the laurel canyon video also, if you could only grab one of those two amps would you choose the laurel canyon or the coldwater canyon😀
Thanks so much! They're both great amps, but I'd probably go Laurel Canyon personally. Can always hit it with a pedal if you want more gain, but the cleans/edge of break up tones on the Laurel Canyon are super nice.
Zach, awesome demo really enjoyed it. This might be a very basic question but how do the Volume, Gain, and Master interact in this amp? I’m used to seeing gain and master for the preamp and power amp, but haven’t seen controls like this in a single channel amp.
I wonder what it would take to modify my VHT heads to sound like these. I'd hate to get rid of them since they're hand wired, I just wish I had the know-how or knew someone who did.
Hello, how do you compare it to the Laurel Canyon? Is it the same voicing, just higher gain or are they completely different amps? Can you compare them with say Deluxe Reverb on 12 or something else?
Please tell me you are wearing protection in your left ear 😎? Pre and Master at noon yikes 😉. Sounds incredible, makes me want to breakout the THD BiValve again
The Laurel Canyon is definitely more vintage inspired 60s/70s sounding amp while the Coldwater Canyon is a bit more of a rock amp that stays tighter when you push the gain. It can still get great clean tones though with the gain set lower, so it just depends on your application. Thanks so much for checking out the video!
I love your videos! Seriously, have given me such a desire to get a Matchless. I have been looking at the Laurel Canyon and the Chieftain. That said this Coldwater Canyon sounds really good. Between the Coldwater and the Laurel, which would you be more inclined to use? Also, I see that you are using a Neumann TLM102. I have been thinking of grabbing one, any reason why I shouldn't? Thanks for the amazing demos!!!
Thanks so much Cole! The Laurel Canyon is definitely more vintage inspired 60s/70s sounding amp while the Coldwater Canyon is a bit more of a rock amp that stays tighter when you push the gain. It can still get great clean tones though with the gain set lower, so it just depends on your application. As for the TLM102, it's definitely a great little mic. I initially got it for vocals a few years ago but tried it as a second mic on a guitar cab and dug the sound. Coincidentally, I've seen a few other folks on UA-cam starting to use them now on guitars as well. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@ZachWish I am guessing you meant to say the Coldwater Canyon is more of the rock amp (based off your demos). I have been thinking about the Audio-Technica AT4047 too, but the TLM102 caught my eye. Thanks again for the awesome demos.
@@ZachWish Thanks and sorry I missed it in the description. I admit I forgot to look there and was scouring the comments to see if it was mentioned. Killer demo!
Thanks so much. It can stay pretty clean at a loud volume, but if you were playing with a loud drummer and wanted crystal clean tones, you might struggle a bit. This is a great amp to set with a crunchy tone and use your guitar's volume to control the amount of gain. Really dynamic. Thanks for watching!
I think Matchless is releasing some additional details/specs soon. Having played both the Coldwater Canyon & the Laurel Canyon, this amp is a bit higher gain and stays tighter when the gain is pushed as opposed to the Laurel Canyon which is much more of a vintage voicing. Definitely a super cool amp though. Thanks for checking out the video!
Hey Zach - There's such little documentation on the Coldwater Canyon. Is it fair to say this is the Laurel Canyon with a cascading gain stage? Debating between the two and want to make sure I understand if it's MORE Laurel canyon or something else entirely! Thanks dude and amazing playing
Thanks Evan! It's been a while since I've played the Coldwater Canyon, but I'd say that description isn't far off. It's definitely a hard amp to classify. Got it's own unique thing going on. I don't know about the differences in the circuit designs between the two, so I'd be hesitant to say for sure. The Coldwater Canyon definitely stays tighter than the Laurel Canyon when you push the gain. The Laurel Canyon has that 60's / 70's thing going on. The folks at Matchless are super helpful though, so I'd probably reach out if you were interested. Thanks for checking out the video!
Once again, I've gotta leave a comment about that Sheraton. What a ridiculously good sounding guitar. Do you have some more info about it? I'm thinking I should sell an old beater Les Paul Studio to buy one. Made in Korea? China? Year? Stock pickups or aftermarket? Great demo all around.
Thanks! This is the new Matchless Coldwater Canyon that has yet to be officially released but is coming soon. It's a bit higher gain than the Laurel Canyon which is a bit more vintage voiced. Thanks so much for checking out the video!
