Logitech Extreme 3D joysticks will always be the absolute best for a really tight budget. Although with a flight sim you'll eventually want a yoke, throttle, and pedals at least for a solid sim experience. Logitech makes those for a decent price especially if you look for some deals on Ebay. Thrustmaster's are the best but of course cost a LOT. A yoke alone can reach around $1000+. If you're serious about flight sim, it's a big long term investment, if you're more casual, Ebay deals are the best way to go, just be careful with those.
I lived in Chicago up until April this year. Glad you picked that to show the manual cache feature. I'm so happy you are doing Flight Simulator videos now too!
It’s got way more problems than slow downloads. There’s huge problems with the Microsoft store installer and other things. Slow down loads can be handled but I’m dealing with floundering downloads where it gets stuck on different files and just downloads the same file over and over again. Then the amount the game crashes is pretty awful. Just changing a joystick mapping can cause the game to crash with no warning.
I down loaded it here and it was not slow at all. I watched the speed using task manager and it downloaded at my normal broadband speed . That is 65 to 70 Mbs.
John Barleycorn I’m picking up my gaming laptop tommorw! Hp omen Amd Ryzen 7 1660Ti, 16gig memory, do you think I can run flight simulator 2020 on it great high settings!
Chuck Poisella definitely medium, high should be ok once up in the air but will struggle in big city’s. With some settings tweak the game will be more than playable. Game looks great even at medium
Getting everything working was quite a hassle and lots of time wasted but I finally got it working and did a few hours of flying around looking at familiar places. Ryzen 5 2600/gtx1660 1080p ultra preset.
The tip with the coordinates is great! You can copy the coordinates from Google Maps and paste in FS. I really wish there was a full-world map available in the route planer to do that in the game.
So thankful someone FINALLY showed how the pre-caching works. I only have a 3megabit internet connection so streaming textures is pretty much off the table for me, but wanted to still be able to slightly take advantage of what FS is capable of So thank you.
I take back every negative comment I've made in the last few months. I am having one of those rare moments.......a positive day-one experience. Just flew over Disney World.....yeah, these guys nailed it. It's not perfect, but this sim is in much better shape on release day than I thought it would be....and I am happy to admit I was wrong.
Addendum : Ok, so after a solid 20 hours of gameplay, it turns out that my skepticism wasn't completely unfounded....for example, London is a complete mess and I understand it's even worse with the ORBX update that NO ONE should have to purchase on Day One. And there are all kinds of weird graphic issues.....like lights suspended in mid air over the fjords of Norway. Yeah, it's buggy as hell....but I still maintain that it's in better shape than I thought it would be. As an old fart who actually had Flightsimulator by Sublogic on an Atari 8000 XL, (If you don't know Sublogic then you're too young. Get some years then get back to me), I am happy this thing works as good as it does....and no amount of beta-testing vids was going to convince me until my hands were on the controls and running on MY system. I have a good system. A really good system....not a great one, but a good one. It's doing well on custom settings that are somewhere between high and ultra with a 35-45 FPS, which could be better but is acceptable in slow-fly simming, especially at altitude. I saw that there were tons of download issues, too. Well, it's day one and I don't count that. It happened to me too...stuck download...but at least I had the presence of mind to terminate the attempt and try again instead of waiting 18 hours wondering why the progress bar isn't moving. There are quite a few legit gripes, but there's nothing I see that can't be fixed over the course of the development of this sim. Ok, that's it. Yes, I did a lot of trolling on a lot of channels, but only because I'm into flight sims. Always have been. Because I am NOT stepping onto a real plane......those things are DANGEROUS. Are you people crazy?! ;) Ok, bye now.
Slow Neutron I have a 1200$ gaming laptop that I JUST bought specifically to play this game and it looks like shit and the performance is absolutely terrible. I’m so disappointed I’ve been waiting months for this and i haven’t even got to make a flight yet
Have made a few flights from my towns small municipal airport since installing. Very impressed! Has come a long way since the first version I played back in the early 2000's. Can't wait to see what comes in the future.
If you experience problems with the steam version, just reinstall the installer. I had no problem with downloading the 91GB afterwards and the game runs like a charm
Just got the game today, it's currently halfway downloading, I'm glad I have gigabit! The game is absolutely mindblowingly amazing! So excited to play it!
I got myself a magnifying glass and was able to read the data amounts for your cached regions, my apologies one of my query’s was staring at me. Best Fs2020 information for me so far thank you Mr Ant🖖🏻
Bought it. Love it. All issues will certainly be sorted in patches as all huge budget games are. If this doesn't get 97/100 at least by PC Gamer and the rest for "being everything it is supposed to be, what it was always supposed to be" then I officially give up any hope I have left for gaming journalism...

I’ve watched so many videos in preparation for FS2020, being on a slow connection due to living in rural Cork this is by far the best I’ve watched. No flying on it tonight as Storm Ellen ruining our microwave internet. So upsetting, first chance to play and it’s a no go
I tried this out today and I couldn't believe how hard it is to fly lol. A bit sad that my hometown looks like garbage. Still an amazingly beautiful game
@@airwipe1639 I crashed the a320 3 times before I even touched down successfully and it took forever for me to find reverse thrust to map it and I still haven't found where the speed brakes are.
Where’s your hometown? Also, you can’t really expect everything to be rendered 100% accurately. If they did that, the game wouldn’t release during any of our lifetimes. Also, it depends on what image they had available for your hometown on Bing Maps, which is where all the data comes from. Bing Maps is also constantly getting updated, and Asobo is also going to be updating parts of the world as well every 3 months so there’s that to look forward to 😊
aahhh, thx man!! I am downloading the game as we speak and you just gave me the goosebumps with your final tip. A few years back i went to a national park, a lake in Thailand. And i don't know, that place took my breath away. I can't wait to revisit it again, got my joystick, got my vr headset and with that little water plane i can land right there... Right there, where we stayed in that little floating hut with no electricity.. oh man.. i miss the world sometimes, hehe
Your CPU is bottlenecking your RTX 2080, and it's not "high end cpu" its very old. Basically you need to change ur cpu if you want to use all of your RTX 2080 potential.
Any CPU, even clocked i9-10900K is still a bottleneck, unless you go for 2k ultra + , then it's the GPU. In the end, there's generally no HW on the market (unless you build some multi-CPU multi-GPU crazy overkill rig) to run MSFS2020 on 4k ultra with at least stable 60fps. Was similar with previous flight sims as well, there were times when I bought a new high-end PC to play FSX for VFR with GA and FS9 maxxed out with addons for IFR jets ;-) ............... but I guess with RTX 3090, some serious multi-CPU setup will be required not to have the GPU having easy time off :-D ... to summarize - MSFS2020 will take a few years to run smoothly to it's full potential on regular "high-end" gaming PCs, and we'll have to wait for such HW to come and be reasonably affordable. That's life.
thanks for the valuable 5 points there. The search options for Fauna or points of interest is indeed a stunning new approach. Also thank you for showing the download scenery (manual cache) option. I believe this is by far one of the biggest improvements in comparison to fsx or x-plane etc where you had to access 2nd, 3rd or 4th party websites and download or / and purchase certain scenery packs and manually install them into fsx. a built in 3d globe - map is indeed what I was waiting and hoping for. I hear a lot of moanig and whining about "download times" etc... but hey, our planet is big! and 3d data with textures is also big data! one question: does ms-flightsim offer a split / separate download between 3d terra mesh, object mesh and textures? Of what I saw in your video you kind of download an area including all of the three, is that correct? Or is the 3d landmark data pre-built in? I am asking because I love soaring. So I would prioritize 3d word land data (terra mesh) before high res texture and that before downloading city, objects data etc. I am very happy with your channel and all the info you share, thank you! OE-PKR over
Shadow 133 I play on a laptop which is barley enough to play medium and holy shit I’m impressed, it’s a flight sim with the entire world mapped its freaking ridiculous and the graphics look decent
@@Shadow__133 agreed, feels like early access tbh. Give it a year or so and i'm sure it'll be amazing with additional content and community mods, but atm the hype is real imho.
I spent about four hours last night optimizing my PC. Tweaking video card overclocks, clearing out crap in my SSD, updating drivers. I was rewarded by 40-65fps in Ultra on what is more or less a mid range system. Core I7 6700 (non K) GTX1070, 16GB 2667 mhz RAM and a Crucial 1TB SATA SSD. Excellent performance that only takes a hit in the most crowded cities. 100mb/s net connection.
Imagine if we had an MMO with a fully reconstructed and detailed NYC in a free roam DLC with environmental destruction. Me and the bois would have a blast.
If your pc or laptop is decent and you have a good connection you'll have no problems. Only thing that bugs me is the instant push back on engine start even with the parking brakes set.
IDK why but the YT algorithm hasn't been showing me your videos for AGES. I just saw "Worth A Buy" review MSFS and I realised I've been missing your content.
Well, I just fired it up for the first time and the first thing that strikes me is the performance issues. There is little difference in performance in high or low settings. I'm aware that's probably because I'm CPU bottlenecked with an i7 6700. My GPU is a GTX 980ti. Frame rates hover around the 30fps, +/- 15fps either way...
@@therolando608 I thought setting the frame rate limiter to 30fps would help, but it cuts the fps to 15. Probably an issue with Vsync, i reckon. Apparently, nVidia have an updated driver which fixes some issues, i'll have to give it a go.
I recently found your channel due to my interest of the flight simulator 2020 and your voice is so relaxing. You also speak very clear what makes it easy for me, as a non native english speaker, to follow. Keep up your work ^^
well i just flew Machu Picchu... I did it normally, then did a flight after doing a manual cache. Both times were exactly the same. Abysmal. No structures. It made no difference what so ever
@@rjc0234 i dont know about performance as i was messing with gfx setting at the same time. I just know when i did manual cache over some areas it didnt change how it looked at all
Thank you so much for the tip with the coordinates, I was trying to wrap my head around how in the world the developers didn't put that feature in. Glad they did!
I don't have hands-on time yet, but I am fairly certain - based on footage - that there is a certain visceral feeling to flying in this much detail... both visual and environmental detail. When the wind "feels" real, and the turbulence "feels" real, and the multi-point air resistance/lift calculations "feel" real - those are the visceral intangibles that make this a completely different experience from previous installments.
So i downloaded the 100gb, got stuck on the 3gb, got through to the game but everything was grayed out and i couldnt play it at all, now back to doing the 100gb update, so far a miserable experience but once its downloaded im sure ill have a great time
Purchased premium deluxe from Steam. Started downloading at 2 min after release (9:02pm PST in Las Vegas). Up and running at 11:00pm. PC and hardware: I9900k at 5.0 ghz, EVO 970 pro M.2, EVGA 1070 hybrid, 32 gigs of 3400 ram, 1440x3440 21:9 LG curved monitor at 60 Hz, Saitex X52 Pro controls. Have Trackir 5 but have not used it yet. I was checking frame rates and get about 30-35 fps at the default High setting running at 1440x3440. Checked 1920x1080 (windowed) at Ultra default and get 40-45 fps. Overall good experience. Just beginning to learn all the in's and out's of the game. I'm going to upgrade to a 2080 super in hopes of a decent frame rate with Ultra at 1440x3440.
Got it through XBOX Live on PC as part of my monthly subscription - Standard Edition - took just over an hour to install (500mb cable broadband). Cranked settings to max and hooked up the TCM Hotas and off i flew. found a few bugs that are annoying - such as Bridges that are underwater, ships that look like sunken ships (in the thames!). Also rendering issues with the Grand Canyon and Victoria Falls. Couldn't locate the Nazca Lines no matter how high settings were. Otherwise great fun. Flew though Tower Bridge and over the Giza Pyramids and the REd and Bent Pyramids.
I’d love to get to the setting page. Meet all the requirements but just crashes / freezes every time I try to load it. Not had a single flight yet. I once got to the settings but had no sound at all then it froze again. Every freeze for me is a full power off reboot. I have managed to get the music playing as it loads by running as Admin but that’s as far as I’ve got so far :-(
make sure you have all game overlays turned off things like MSI afterburner or even the Nvidia overlay can crash your game had to close mine in task manager
I can't play either although I can load in and get parked at an airport, my cpu is simply too old to handle this one, basically frame rates are close to zero and load times are atrocious. I wonder if your cpu is sufficient?
This sounds like an unstable hardware setup, have you tried running CPU and GPU burn-in tests to validate your system's stability? Maybe try lowering your CPU or FSB multipliers.
Meoiswa I haven’t tried this. I don’t OC anything though and everything else I run is totally stable. Don’t really want to have to scale-back my machine to be able to run this. From reading a lot of posts I am hoping there will be some rapid patching of the sim as I my issue is definitely not unique.
Great video! Learned lots about the cache and camera! I love the Icon! I’ve already landed it in front of the Sydney Opera House and the Statue of Liberty! I’m going to manual cache those areas and go back and use that drone to get some awesome shots. I heard people talking about the drone but never figured out how to use it. Thanks again! 😀👍
I intended to buy this game on steam today, but it seems that the majority of the game downloads after you start the game. With it taking over 2 hours in most cases, that means that you can not get a refund from steam if you choose to, because the game will have already been running for over the 2 hour time limit. Was this planned by microsoft to maximize their profits? I will leave that up to the individual to decide.
I thought of that too. Can confirm it did take up more than two hours on my 200mbps max connection and all of that was logged on steam. I had about 4 hours logged before I had finished setting up my flight stick controls and going through the settings and configs.
I seriously doubt it, more likely they didn't want to rewrite the entire distribution system just for Steam users. Games with content installed via launchers aren't that rare. If they really cared about maximizing profits then they probably wouldn't have made this available via Xbox Game Pass, which lets you play it for a whole month for $1 (I used that method to play it several hours early yesterday, and is a good way to try it out without having to worry about Steam's refund policy).
also make sure to select live online traffic so you can fly with other FS2020 pilots in what i think is the coolest feature live player traffic, but it must be selected.
People are mainly complaining about the launcher. The 600MB launcher is downloaded by steam, and then the launcher downloads the rest of the 90 gigs of the game, which counts as "playtime" so you miss the 2 hour window to refund the game.
@@DanielsAHazard They can still get full refunds outside of the two hours, if they have a good enough reason. This would be a good enough and easily provable reason.
That Icon is also almost impossible to stall. I tried really hard to get it to stall but it just corrects itself all the time. It's quite an amazing little plane. The only way to crash it is by overspeed really
anyone else got problems with this game??? A lot of people got problems including me...you can see the review on Xbox/Microsoft or something....pissed people off lmaoo
I have found it unplayable on minimum specs and for my pc pretty poor too, only thing that is under par for recommended on mine is I have a gtx1060 3G instead of 4g and again its unplayable

I do not intend to tweak and much around with GFX settings why would I so boring its pretty damn nice as is.
Yep, gamers these days have zero patience. On Steam they were moaning for refunds when the game had downloaded a small file(they thought game download was botched) before the big download started.
So i just found out the reason why it said we have to insert the game disc, it was because it hasn’t released yet or something...the youtubers made me think the game has came out🤣🤣🤣

I never knew you could d/l city's.....living in Cornwall and using" Now TV's super fast broadband " with speeds sometimes as high as 18mps.....this will make a massive difference to my gameplay. Thankyou so much
Lol you made it look easy......when I go to manual cache the maps load but there is no "create new manual " option. I can't enter a maximum overall cache size and the "cache new region" doesn't do anything. Its lit up as a button but does not work
Great tips - particularly the manual cache one - though that's probably going to end up costing me a massive new hard drive. Wish the main flight select map was as detailed as the one where you set areas to download though: seems weird that they have a fully detailed on in the game but it's not on the more useful screen so we can pick interesting looking places to jump in at.
The premium content is working now. I was also just able to have 1 hour flight with no crashes. No idea why it worked without crashing now and didn't work before.
Downloading this beauty right now! To be honest i thought this sim would come out by New Years or even early 2021, what a surprise! And i don’t care about bugs, together we will fix them much faster!
Downloaded in about 4 hrs. Because Steam had the whole USA start download at Midnight EST I was able to start at 9:30 pm PDT on the 17th. Still have had issues though. I spent maybe 2 hrs trying to get my CH Flight Yoke and Pedals set up as they're not part of the pre-recognized peripherals. Need to figure out how to print out keyboard shortcuts. It's going to take awhile to learn most of the abilities of this sim.
@@mrpositronia Write to the support I guess. There is a page on the official support site about this, but it is totally BS such as "restart your game" or "verify integrity on steam", which does not help at all. Scroll down you'll see where to continue on the bottom left i though the same thing because if its not full screen you won't see the option to continue.
Not sure what all the complaints are about the Steam download. Worked flawlessly for me. Only hiccup was malwarebytes blocking the connection to the download servers for the sim. Easy enough to fix. Sim runs amazingly well on my PC as well.
Also know that Steam has a bug where the premium and deluxe premium will not load initially. You have to close out of the flight sim, close out of Steam. Reopen steam - check to see if the two DLC appear as notifications. I had to close out three times and reopen before they populated. It's an additional 4GB download so be forewarned.
I've started on my flightsim journey. So far got a gaming mouse. Just need the rest of the PC, a decent internet connection and FS2020.

I know controls are incredibly sensitive and I'm using a flight stick and rudder pedals.
So much more sensitive than X-Plane. I have 2,700 hours in XP but absolutely planted the 152 on my first landing in FS.

Your CPU is bottlenecking your RTX 2080, and it's not "high end cpu" its very old. Basically you need to change ur cpu if you want to use all of your RTX 2080 potential.
I laughed pretty hard at the "high end" comment.
What? He clearly said he didn't have a high spec cpu.
I’m running an RTX 2070 Super with a Ryzen 7 2700x, And I’m still wondering if I’m bottlenecking. Any idea?
@@matyxcz 4k is a meme with current hardware anyway.
Well done - thank you. I would probably never have bothered to take the time to discover two thirds of these features had you not shown me. Cheers.
thanks for the valuable 5 points there.

This will change everything. Until you're just flying like you did in all the previous installments.

Sure would be cool if they implemented this map tech into an MMO or gta or something. Playing gta in my home town would be awesome.
I guess you've to wait for that until 2042.

there are issues with steam if you bought anything more then the standard edition the game isn't registering that you bought those bundles
People are mainly complaining about the launcher. The 600MB launcher is downloaded by steam, and then the launcher downloads the rest of the 90 gigs of the game, which counts as "playtime" so you miss the 2 hour window to refund the game.
