Me and my ex once got banned from apex for using cheats I never used. When I asked what made them think it was the case, or what I could do to convince them otherwise they just said "no" and "we cant tell you that" for every single attempt to appeal.
False bans aren't uncommon. The anti-cheat they use is overly aggressive, like any company they obviously won't tell you why to avoid potential leaks of detection of cheats used before throwing out huge ban waves. So while false bans suck, it's an entirely different topic.
@@Unknown_Genius My main character in DS3 was flagged as having a hacked item and that lead my account to be banned unless I deleted the whole save. I repeatedly asked what the hacked item was so I could just delete it and I was just told "no" in a very roundabout ways for about 3 emails. So I deleted my main character but I just lost all motivation to continue playing DS3 even though my 2nd character wasn't far off in terms of gear and levels.
@@H0juma Ye, Fromsoft really loves to just check inventories and ban people based on unreleased items - why they don't just delete them from your inventory so you can't use them and have an advantage instead (with a warning) is a different question - it's something entirely different to false bans from anti-cheats but definitely something that I always found to be a weird decision as you simply don't know that what you're picking up is a cheated item.
It's a double edged sword. If you're innocent, you get false banned with radio silence. If you're guilty they aren't giving you one slight sense of how they detected you. Would you tell a burglar you know he came through the upstairs bathroom window, therefore next time he knows to sneak in through the garage back door because your aware of the upstairs infiltration method.
This is scarier than people realise.. If the new cheater meta becomes turning on hacks for other people on your team so they get banned instead of you but you still win, then we're all fucked..
You say this as if this was something every hacker is capable of doing in every game. This only happened because Respawn and EA are a bunch of lazy fuckers and didn't bother fixing their fucking game.
Yeah never thought of ppl deciding to do this. Cheaters are complete losers in real life so the more people they piss off online the better for them. Whole gaming industry gonna be in shambles
It was very lucky that the hacker who did it just went nuts with it, if he was more malicious he could have easily framed a pro for cheating and ruined his whole career
Gen also had aimbot before the walls got turned on, he thought he killed a member of DSG, who were playing under Dark Zero's spot. His arrow actually hit Zaptoh of E8 who was across the map. If you watch the beginning of the clip you can see his arrows fly up instead of towards the person he was aimed at. This entire situation was wild to watch in real time
The fact that this is an injection on personal systems through a game alone is terrifying. It's a trojan that requires nothing more than a connection to a video game server.
Imagine there are vulnerabilities that work on your browser and just visiting a website gives remote access to your pc :O but luckily these exploits are really admired and costly and nobody would waste something that big on a person like you who doesn't even now how the things like the internet works. so please relax, you are too dumb and unimportant for being targeted.
well and it requires a person on the other side to actively be injecting and writing. Meaning it's traceable. If they were as skilled as any typical black/white hat they very easily could have destroyed all of their computers if that is what was wanted.
That is not true, as it has been confirmed that Hal and Genburten both had compromised computers through malware they unintentionally installed beforehand. There is no evidence to suggest the hacker has the ability to perform RCE on the clients. PirateSoftware has a great video about this where he talks with Hal and discovers that the hacker's jumpbox was making a direct port connection with his hardware through malware.
Not just that, but trying to find a way to obscure his player character from any sightlines so the cheats wouldn't dome someone while he was trying to quit out.
I'm not sure it was the right move and I think the next person showed why. When the first guy had cheats turned on and quit quickly, they just kept playing the match and wanted to keep going. The second person didn't quit quickly and kept playing. That forced them to end the match and postpone things. If the second guy had just quit immediately they might not have stopped things and it's possible the results of the matches would stand. At the point the first guy was hacked the competitive integrity of the match was gone.
@@ZeroRed78 imperial Hal was hacked as well that’s the second person of the same team. I just find it funny how a 15 year old hacked EA during a big tournament
Pretty much what he did. Also if you're streaming, you probably look straight down before you leave to avoid anyone else gathering information in the game (in this setting)
If this incident is because of an RCE exploit, then the game servers need to be taken down while this gets resolved. It would be utterly irresponsible to expose all of their players to such a major security risk. But then again, it is EA.

it humbles me in a sense seeing someone like charlie fumbling his words. as one who does this constantly and can't stop myself, it gives me a confidence boost.
It's one thing for a player to bring a thumb drive and try to cheat a win for themselves. It's entirely another for some remote person to inject it into any device on the network completely without being detected.
Ive only watched this video on the matter and unless its misrepresented nothing is injected. Imagine it more like a mod tool or server side setting that already exist in the client. The hacker is telling server "hey this guy is a mod now and should be allowed these sv_cheats". Probably found some fun and easy way to do this
Some more info about this situation that Charlie hadn’t added is that Destroyer 2009 was a well known hacker before this incident happened, he would load into popular steamers ranked games with them being in masters and even predator and would make a ton of bots to just target the streamer until they died. (If you want to see some clips of it there are some videos of Hiswattson getting into one of these matches and it’s absolutely bonkers you just have to see it.)
Not only that, he(and I believe others as well) can crash their servers at will. Over the past year I can recall at least two incidences of him crashing servers just for shits and giggles. Once was in a ranked game Hal was in, and another ranked game with a different streamer, can’t recall who it was off the top of my head. But yeah long story short, he(and again, maybe others as well) basically has complete control over the game and can do whatever he wants whenever he wants.
Reminds me of when Halo 2 was king, it was damn near impossible to get past level 38-40 without squadding with a hacker. Hackers were so common in the top 10 ranks that you were practically guaranteed to get matched against one, and so your best chance was to have a hacker on your team to cheat harder than they're cheating. It was so goofy. Back in the good ol' days where kids were sticking butter knives in the back of their xboxs in order to block the laser from reading the disc and reading from their modded files instead.
Those modded custom lobbies were fun as hell. A nice break from competitive Halo just flying around with energy swords having Dragon Ball Z fights in the air lol
Heard that man, I could only get to like level 39 before it was constant blue screens and dudes flying in the middle of the map with a br shooting sniper bullets. I linked up with someone who would lag switch/blue screen the lobbies and I’d sell those level 50 accounts. Good times
When the Xbox 360 came out, my buddy got one and we both learned how to mod Halo 2. I was on the OG Xbox, and he was on 360 We found all of those custom game maps like the race tracks on the outside of the map, or the Donkey Kong type game where you climb the slope and there's all sort of objects tumbling down The good ol' days for real
Or when MW2 was king, and near every lobbywas hacked. Jumps that sent you to the moon, so if you didn't have the no fall damage perk you just insta died. Gave everyone speed hacks, could only use knife, etc. Shit was mad wild. Craziest thing is in today's world, games shouldn't be as easy to hack as they are.

Imagine saying "someone put hacks on my computer" since that's what many cheaters say after they get caught so no one will believe someone if that actually happens to you
apparently the hacker spammed something in the chat declaring who they had hacked, so the player who got hacked is actually blameless unless you think that they were colluding (which doesn't make sense given the players' reactions, if they were trying to use the hacks to win they would stay quiet about them or at least keep playing the game)
What's fucked is I just got off the great and very detailed Goat video about EFT and he's response one year later. Banned cheaters could be a source of income if cheaters must purchase new accounts. This feels like a dark rabbit hole.
The fact there is big prizes involved and they aren't playing locally on an air gapped server is mind blowing. Especially if they game is prone to getting hacked.
This is the main reason I quit apex. The game has PLENTY of problems but the hacks are just out of control to the point where you don't know if you got killed by a hacker or just a normal sweat.
This is why I don't play competitive online games anymore, period. The bots, the cheats, everything has just gotten so out of hand, and it's abundantly clear that the people who are _supposed_ to be fixing it are too busy sitting atop their dragon hoards of loot box and battle pass cash to give a shit.
I started the game at launch. After a couple of weeks I was used to what happens, how things feel, and I was playing a team game solo because my teamies disconnected at start. I managed to survive until there were less than 10 teams remaining. I found myself a crevasse where I could hear and see from all directions but was in a place that I had no business camping in. I waited and waited and finally heard some people. I knew I was safe because it was off the beaten track and they would head to the buildings below me. Rather than that happen, I heard the steps come directly towards me, then the person jumped around the corner, shotgunned me with one shot in mid-air instantly. I knew it was suss so I went back to the stream to rewatch it over and over and it was absolutely wallhacks and maybe more. I uninstalled. I've been back 3 times since to play with friends, more often than not there is at least one hacker. It's depressing as its a great game.
This game's hacking situation is insane. EA and Respawn are lucky their playerbase is so forgiving. They are so worried about selling recolors and skins they ignore real issues.
Funny how they force Kernel-level anti-cheat onto people (which just came back to bite them in the ass in this case) yet it is absolutely useless in most cases. Idgaf about skins so idc about those complaints. Hackers are really only in Diamond+ so most peolpe shouldn't be complaining about it. Its just a classic case of "that guys better than me, msut be cheating". And servers are 20tick which probably cant go higher due to the physics of the game and it being a BR. And the reality is, the servers are fine, its not a tactical shooter. The bad clips you see are just people playing on 300 ping or some bullshit.

I still remember when a hacker injected my game with their hacks when I was like 11 playing Black Ops 2, and the hacks that he gave everyone had an option to forcefully inject others with the hacks as well. He forced everyone in the lobby to be max prestige, unlock everything, and gave everyone a cheat menu. I was shittin bricks worried I was gonna get banned cause I had no clue how to get rid of all the stuff. Hacking like that is not good, I can understand having like a custom server where they are just goofing around, but going into public lobbies and ruining everyones progression and possibly getting them banned is not cool.
They don't ban chaters, only perma ban your whole EA account for saying slightly barely bad words even when not directed at teammates or saying stfu when being absolutely harassed through voice chat.
This. No one talks in game chat anymore because everyone is scared they'll be reported over something minor and get banned. It's so pathetic. I'm even 100% okay with banning slurs, but banning basic trash talk has ripped the soul out of game chat.
Be curious to know where the exploit was/what it was/is. Apparently the hack was a RCE one (remote code execution) which from what I understand means they could have done pretty much anything they wanted.
Every time someone starts the message with "as a {programmer/webdev/whatever software related}" what comes after is nonsense Maybe don't consider yourself an expert after just getting your first job

I too am surprised with hacks these days, just like how I played battlefront 2 2017 recently and the hacks at the game were to change everyones perspective to the same cinematic scene or to make the server lag or to launch a weird console on your game screen that shows some kind of code
Reminds me of the days in COD MW2 where someone would give an entire private lobby hacks. Wouldn't stay forever but you'd get access to a majority of the hack menu to play around with in other lobbies until you restarted your game.
Its crazy that not only did this happen in the middle of a big event, but now everyone is advised to not even login to apex or any EAC game until further info comes out about how this happened. RCE is a big danger, and while the russian kid might not be malicious or targeting your common player, bad actors will definitely catch wind of this weakness and see how to take advantage of it
Hacks have evolved and games just clearly are too worried about making money to care. Scary how it's just up to a company if they feel like caring or not.
This isnt that new or evolved cheats like this have existed for a while like in call of duty being able to give others mod menus or just straight aimbot or walls outright
As a 2009 myself. I think bro is the Kira of Apex. He hasn’t stolen anyone data “that we know” he’s only gifted packs (which is a crazy W) sent out bots, and gave out hacks. I think his motive isn’t malicious but to show that he can do these things and that apex needs to do something about it or he’ll keep going. I’m pretty positive apex will be hiring back the employees they laid off to help with the situation. I honestly respect this kid. He’s doing us a solid. We just gotta wait a bit
I was absolutely awestruck by this, Its like witnessing an ancient ritual that I have only heard of in Myths. Its definitely an event that I will tell the grandkids of my grandparents
By the looks of it, it was an RCE (Remote code executable) which basically allows the attacker to execute malicious code from one machine to another thanks to a vulnerability within either EAC or Apex.
If I'm not mistaken the use of web hooks is really a form of man in the middle attack designed to give the server information that would otherwise be real information or commands

False bans aren't uncommon.
The anti-cheat they use is overly aggressive, like any company they obviously won't tell you why to avoid potential leaks of detection of cheats used before throwing out huge ban waves.
So while false bans suck, it's an entirely different topic.

well and it requires a person on the other side to actively be injecting and writing.

Has started to be unplayable since people that work can't keep up with the amount of time people put into these games.

This isnt that new or evolved cheats like this have existed for a while like in call of duty being able to give others mod menus or just straight aimbot or walls outright
I can't wait for my grandkids to tell me about this some day.
How did I knock out 3 people as a girl 😭😭😭
You see your honour, I wasn’t evading tax, I was gifted tax evasion by a hacker
As a 2009 person myself this deeply saddens me…
…because I do not yet possess the skills to do this
A 2009 person is like a 6 year old in my head. Thanks for making me feel old
Real 😭 I’m jealous
I'm not a 2009 person but I'm simply impressed. I didn't see anyone throw shade at the kid. Most people hated on EA / Respawn.
@@Gonzo_OGit’s kind of like when Garry’s Mod had the cough virus epidemic, which was meant to expose a flaw in the coding of Gmod
I was absolutely awestruck by this, Its like witnessing an ancient ritual that I have only heard of in Myths. Its definitely an event that I will tell the grandkids of my grandparents
2:40 he made him vote for Putin wtf
Hacking in video gaming is as prevalent as doping in tour de france
0:07 I hope Charlie has kids ngl. He would be a cool dad. He needs to carry on the moist legacy.
Charlie is so in awe at this moment that he fumbled the intro twice.
I too shall inform my grand cousins and great fathers of this event.
How did I knock out 3 people as a girl 😭😭😭
Reminds me of the original MW2 lobbies, accidentally getting 10th prestige level 70 with all the unlocks just by queuing up a FFA.
Clara came for revenge
How did I knock out 3 people as a girl 😭😭😭
Oh not that girl man 😂😂😂
There is no limit to the wrath of a boy who feels disrespected by a video game.
I will rewatch this when my grandkids are my parents
same
Wai- what?!
Be READY
0:02 charlie fumbling words😂
The upcoming playoffs in LA better be hosted on a local private network. We shouldn’t have to worry about this for a LAN event.
By the looks of it, it was an RCE (Remote code executable) which basically allows the attacker to execute malicious code from one machine to another thanks to a vulnerability within either EAC or Apex.
What does the east Australian current (EAC) have to do with this?
easy anti cheat

@@MrBigburke22oh he's not talking about the currency, but rather Easy Anti Cheat (EAC)
What does Eddy Current Suppression Ring have to do with this?@@MrBigburke22
Nothing is really confirmed yet, but it's safer to stay away from game for now.
That introduction fumble was an event that I’ll no doubt tell my grandchildren about.
Kronk, Pull the Lever
Hack the Apex Legends pros, Kronk
Wrong lever!
This has actually happened in CS. back in the day, clara injected her friends game with hacks and unfortunately the victim was banned :(
Rumors are going around that Clara changed her name to Destroyer2009. That girl was clearly a victim, can’t believe people thought she was a cheater
@@Bliccyriccy03 ive never seen Clara and Destroyer2009 in the same room.
IM BETTER THAN CHARLIE 😩😱
If I'm not mistaken the use of web hooks is really a form of man in the middle attack designed to give the server information that would otherwise be real information or commands
Not surprising, seeing as modern anticheat-programs have kernel-level access.
Up until now it was usually laughed off because "they need it due to how cheats work", but this puts them in a very bad spot for the entire world to see.
How did I knock out 3 people as a girl 😭😭😭
@@itz_me_peaceful_devil_21 Kernel-level access anti-cheat isn't even a "necessary evil" like so many shills like to call it. Pirate Software explained really well how unecessary it is. A short of that specific part was posted and is easy to find by just searching for "Pirate Software Kernel level"
Also Kernel-level anti-cheats are just not that efficient at what they are supposed to be doing. The online scene is RIDDLED with cheaters, kernel-level access or no...
god I hope this wakes up normies to that fact
Except it’s a game engine vulnerability but go off. I mean I don’t like kernel anti cheat at all but you’re scapegoating and that hurts your own argument, an argument which I agree with.
you realize that it’s game engine and not anti cheated related right? instead of spewing nonsense do some basic research. you don’t need kernel level access to take over your pc 😂 any game you have downloaded + a bad update can do it
3:40 Boy do i want to get injected with cheese too.
